Although I've known about Clawson Shoe Repair for decades (even when they were in their previous location east of Main), I had not stopped in or used their services. Mostly I wear one or two pairs of comfortable shoes until they're worn out and then replace them with new ones. I don't wear any of my dress shoes enough any more to wear down the heels so there's nothing to repair. My wife was curious if exercise shoes can be repaired because she wears them on a treadmill and the uppers stay like new but the heels are worn down. It never would have occurred to me (I've never worn out a pair of exercise shoes in my life) but we thought we'd ask. I looked at reviews for shoe repair and this one stood out in addition to me being familiar with them as they used to be across from one of our regular stops. We found that they had moved a few blocks to the west a while ago and I hadn't noticed. But their address is correct as shown in Yelp so it was easy to find. He told us they can fix the heels on exercise shoes and explained how they do it. And, at $23/pair, it is much cheaper than a new pair, especially when the uppers are like new. On our second visit we had heel protectors put on a relatively new pair of shoes. These are hard plastic clips that are attached to the back edge of the heel that extend the life of the shoes. These cost a total of $4 for the pair and he did it in five minutes while we waited. Next time we will have them restore worn down heels on shoes with like-new uppers. With our experiences so far, Clawson Shoe Repair is definitely not overrated! read more

This is my one and only place I go to for all my shoe repairs. It's not too far from my house and they do a really great job. I've had them put wedges on heels that are wearing low. I've had them repair some scenes on shoes. I've also had them die a pair of camel colored boots that got stain from oil. They've also fixed some straps on purses for me in the past. The staff there are always super friendly and very clear about timing for repairs. I've never been there when there's not a line, it's that popular. Needed a zipper repaired on a boot that runs up the back of the boot. When speaking with the shop about the repair, I emphasized that the zipper must zip down to where it was designed, allowing me to get my foot into the boot. When I picked up today, the zipper did not zip down far enough, so I could not get my foot into the boot. When I explained the situation, the employee of the shop, could be the owner, asked me if I wanted my money back. At no time did they offer a solution. So, I said, Yes, I'd like my money back. He took the boot into the back of the shop and cut out the repair work they performed. One key point I want to make is that the shop did not listen to my explanation at time of drop-off. I have a pair of Women's Lucky Brand Booties that I bought at Nordstrom in ~2017 and I wore them basically every fall day until 2019 when the bottom of the heel fell off and the heel cover started peeling away. They sat in a corner since then and I didn't know what to do with them. I didn't want to throw away an otherwise good pair of shoes, but also thought the cost would be prohibitive to get them fixed. The time came once again this summer while I was purging things from my house where I looked at the booties and said "I'm going to get these fixed, I don't care how much it costs". Thus, I started looking for shoe repair in my area. I had driven by Clawson Shoe Repair so much but always thought it was somewhere people only took fancy men's business shoes and things of that nature. I decided to walk in one day and see if they could help me. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out not only could they help me and seemed very confident in how to repair my shoes, but it was only $30 which isn't bad at all to keep otherwise good shoes out of a landfill! My shoes came back looking better than new. They were cleaned, the heels were fixed, and they even cleaned up the edges where the color had worn off. They look amazing now and I can't wait to wear them this fall! I'll be coming back to Clawson Shoe Repair for all my shoe/purse repairs. 4.5 stars on a yelp. A good amount of reviews. I just needed a couple of toe taps and two heels....how much could it hurt right? I should have gone with my gut, but it's hard to do that sometimes when you walk into a store with a box of shoes..... Cheap prices but horrible service. 3 bucks for toe taps and 20 for vibram heels. I individually wrapped each of my shoes so they wouldn't scratch each other and and they just threw it on top of each other when they finished the work. On top of that they scratched my brand new pair of shoes and they half ass apologized and buffed it out but it was a huge gash from fingernail like 2 inches long so it definitely left a mark. I told another one of the workers I was angry about it and they said I was the one who messed it up and accused me of messing up my own shoes. Extremely disappointed in this shoe cobbler there is absolutely no care in their work and they have no consideration for the belongings of their customers. I came here today with a pair of boots and one of them had a heel practically hanging off of it. I live in Troy and wasn't sure where to go for the best cobbler in the area, but Yelp led me here. This place gets 5 stars from me because I literally walked in, told them the problem, and walked out with a fixed boot heel five minutes or less later - and for only $8, too. They use a special glue to fix the heel, apparently, and now it looks as good as new. I had called a few other local stores to see how much this would cost, and I was quoted anywhere from $10-20, so $8 was definitely a nice surprise! I finally had reason to come back here, and although I was almost tempted to drop it to four stars, it stays at five. Here's the scoop. I bought a pair of shoes at Nordstrom Rack, so the left shoe was much tighter than the right shoe (which is on the shelf for everyone and their sister to try on). I refused to return them because I LOVED them, so it was off to see if they could be stretched. I had never had shoes stretched before and thought I might need to try them on or have them measured or something...but when I went in, the guy seemed like he was in a rush (though I was the only one in the store at the time) and I basically just dropped the shoe off and he gave me a tag, asked my name, and told me "Tuesday." I left with a follow-up review already forming in my head about him having no "bedside manner." Fast forward to picking up the shoe, and the guy seemed much less rushed and way more personable and I actually even chatted with him a bit while trying the shoe on. Turns out it needed to be stretched more, so he said to leave it and it would be ready in two days. Cool. I asked if I could pay for it now (so my husband could pick it up) and he said sure. I hadn't asked how much it would be, but I was honestly expecting like $10-15...so when it told me $3 I actually said "Really? THREE dollars?" This place rocks. read more

This place came to us highly recommended, and we've tried it a few times for both my and my husband's shoes. The work was adequate but the service after the first visit was just uncomfortable and awkward. The person was rude to me the first time I went and I felt uncomfortable going back but I thought it was just me. We need more shoes taken to the store and my husband just confirmed that they were rude and stand offish to him on two separate visits, one in particular when he took another person, a new customer, with him.
