Okay not sure what happened but I literally just felt like I was in the twilight zone. The place was a little busy when my husband and I 1st got there but was greeted right away. We were seated at a long table with another couple until a table opened up. My husband and i saw a couple tables open up but just waited, we Didnt want to be rude or pushy, and after about 20 min I assume we were forgotten about, a different person from the one who originally sat us comes up and asks if we would like to sit at an open table. We said yes and got seated somewhere else. So the server seemed super nice and took our order, we ordered some food since we knew the kitchen would be closing soon and a wine flight each. We drank the 1st couple of wine glasses and when we got the 3rd after we sat for about 30 min still no food, a different person brought us our 3rd tasting and we decided to order a dessert to come out after our food because we knew the kitchen would be closing in 20 min and she said she'd put the dessert in for us. The original server comes out and tells us he forgot about our food but is putting it in now and should be out shortly. We'll we finally get our food 10 min later and it was very good I have to say! I definitely recommend the flat bread pizzas if you decide to go. Well we get the last 2 of our flight tasting wines and finish our food, the server comes out at the end and brings us our check for the wine flights but no food was on the receipt, maybe he felt bad, not sure but we never got the dessert and we didn't say anything about it and just left. By the way there were probably 4 tables in the place at this time, so it was not busy. We left and will not be back. But the food was great! The owners, Jason & Melissa, have really created a special place. We could have easily spent the whole day there. Jason is extremely knowledgeable of wines and beers and his warm and engaging personality comes through in his conversations with customers. His wife, Chef Melissa, cranks out the most delicious small plates, and she too is just as pleasant and delightful with their patrons. The place is beautiful, clean, and charming. First time in Solvang and I'm so glad we chose to come to Clean Slate for my friends Bachelorette party. We were searching for a place to get a quick dinner and some wine and stumbled upon this gem. I called to see if there was a wait and Jason immediately helped us. Texted me the menu, saved us a table and was incredibly kind. Upon arrival they treated us like QUEENS. Super friendly, accommodating, and the food and wine were all delicious. We ended up staying for hours and had some an amazing time with the staff. Our server Joey was the absolute best. Remembered all of our names and recommended only the best for us. Wow! We stumbled upon this bar/restaurant after devouring four pastries at a nearby bakery. The owner, Jason, was so delightful that we returned that evening for dinner and wine. This place is a true gem. The owners are intimately involved in making sure every guest has a great experience. The wine list is extensive and very reasonably priced. Jason knows his stuff and the recommended pairing with our food was spot on. Melissa runs the kitchen and she is the real deal. In fact, she delayed putting the red beans and rice special on the menu until her choice red beans had arrived from Louisiana. Her recipe was the real deal. In addition, the "pork sliders" were fantastic. The rest of their diverse menu looked terrific. But it's not just the food and wine. Jason and Melissa set a tone that the staff pick up on and that's to create a "joie de vivre" environment. Great variety of local wines from smaller vineyards. Staff was sociable and talked to us quite a bit about the wine.......but OMG the food was the bomb! We had some PB&J crostinis and had to place a second order! BTW PB&J is pimento cheese, bacon and jalapeño jam. Yum Yum! This is such a cute tapas place and wine bar/shop! The couple running it was beyond lovely. The tapas were delicious and we ordered wine flights for tasting and the owner poured very generously. This was a cute little place but the service was not so great. We waited a long time in between our wine tasting because the two people that served us were too busy socializing with the other guests. Too much time in between tasting to get some service and attention. When we were finally ready for the check no one was to be found. I had the privilege to visit Clean Slate again today. I had another wonderful experience! Jason is knowledgeable and helpful when trying to choose a wine. I found a new favorite Tuscany blend thanks to Jason and can order more from Clean Slate online when this bottle runs dry. Melissa is warm and welcoming and made the best peach bread pudding with a whiskey cream sauce in the world! She cooks with locally sourced products supporting the local farms. We felt like they went above and beyond to make our visit excellent. Not only were they welcoming, but also very knowledgeable about the wine and the cider we ordered, and gave us some interesting background on how the cider came to be. They really took their time to check in on us, and even gave us some recommendations of wineries we should checkout while in the area. There was a wide selection of wines and beers. The small plates we ordered especially the flatbread tasted awesome. This is a very cute establishment that I will be sure to come back and visit while in the area. After being in quarantine for over 5 months, I drove all the way up to Solvang from Chino Hills to escape for a while with my boyfriend. I was hesitant in wanting to partake in any patio experience due to having to take my mask off, however, the way in which this beautiful wine bar has set up their patio makes their guest feel very comfortable. We were greeted by Jason and he presented us with a menu along with a list of their wines. He took the time to get an idea of what our likings were and explained that he would try his best to meet our wants. We ordered a flight of wine and with each new wine Jason brought out he would take a moment to provide us with a little history about the bottle, the grapes, and the person who created the wine. When I got to our 4th wine, this wine was not my favorite taste. Jason without hesitation provided me with another option without it counting as one of my flights. If I could provide this amazing Wine Bar with more than just 5 stars I would. Jason's professionalism and attention to detail was superb. Especially during COVID restrictions and regulations, he ensured that his customers felt safe and protected. Our seats were separated within the 6 ft requirement and every table had its own hand sanitizer. Ok, listen. I'll do my best to not be long winded here but no promises. We just left Clean Slate and it was great enough that I'm leaving an immediate review. Long story short, this was the best experience we could have hoped for in the midst of this strange, strange year. Everything about it was outstanding. The food and wine are wonderful, the service is exactly what you want it to be and the environment was beautiful and so very comfortable. My wife and I are here in Solvang celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary and, due to her being high risk, this was the first time we've made the choice to dine out in months and that was based on a quick walk by of Clean Slate and also the other stellar Yelp review regarding Covid precautions. Jason and Melissa were so accommodating and engaging. We appreciated some good conversation and feedback, felt truly valued as guests and are just super happy to have been able to contribute in a small way to a business that clearly cares about the way they operate.
