So I just pulled into Solvang for a weekday getaway - just me and my dog - hungry, tired, and completely over a torrential downpour ‍ - and stumbled across this gem!! Loads of delicious, small batch, local wines; and a small plate menu that changes daily with the availability of fresh local ingredients! I'm not a white wine drinker so I didn't do the tasting, but I asked my server for her recommendation. She asked what I like in a red wine and recommended a couple of amazing ones that were spot on perfect! They are super dog friendly, with a toasty warm, covered patio with heaters and a fireplace. The people that work here are super super friendly, including the owner. It was our first glass of wine in town and it did not disappoint. It was a great way to start our getaway. I went for a drive from OC and stopped at this place. The service was amazing. From the waitress that served us to the owner that sat us and stopped by several times to check on us. This is a hidden gem in Solvang and so worth finding. Small plates that are delicious. Today, I had the dirty Cajun poblano pepper and it was delicious. Stumbled upon this place while walking by some of the shops in Solvang. Definitely had a great time here with my boyfriend. The wine and beer selection was good. Food was great and so were the drinks. Took a bottle home with us. Overall the atmosphere was great, everyone was very welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be back. read more

We were referred to this place & what a find! 6 of us made reservations for the patio & it was great! Some of us had a glass of wine or beer, others enjoyed the wine tasting. The wines were all terrific and from small producers. Everything being tasted you can buy to take home from their retail shop. The food is phenomenal - quite delicious! We enjoyed a several items to share- all great. GF & vegan options, too. Flatbreads to various crostinis to salads. My husband loved the sardines-reminded him of being back in Italy. Wow! It was so great to stop by Clean Slate. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about Clean Slate. We felt welcomed, pampered and spoiled. Everyone on staff is absolutely wonderful. Not only was the food incredible but the staff and owner personally came over to check on us. We had dinner reservations at another place 15 minutes away that we were going to walk to and the owner came by to tell us how long and bad the walk was and offered us a taxi service to take. Clean Slate was an absolutely incredible experience! One of the most memorable and personal restaurant experiences I've ever had. My dining parter and I each had a flight of wines along with some light fare, specifically the PB&J crostini with pimento cheese, bacon, and pepper jelly (more like "OMG", so good) and the Mayan chocolate brownie (bold, rich, and delicious). The menu changes frequently, but I can only imagine everything is as good as what we sampled tonight! The food was excellent, very flavorful and well-balanced, with a very home-cooked appeal that made it feel substantive and "real", but this review is really for the staff, who were absolutely exceptional. Particular shoutouts go to Joey, who was a fantastic sommelier and curated such a wonderful selection of wines for us (really, I can't say enough good things about him), and Jason, who was attentive, friendly, and professional. From start to finish, this was an absolute standout experience. Also, worth noting is that the wines we tried were all great, but Jason's Bocce Ball line is really a star of the show--we ended up leaving with a bottle of his "Good Kisser" Rosé, out of all the wines we tried. He knows his stuff and has a knack for wine. This place is worth the visit and I highly recommend it, absolutely top-notch and a wonderful treasure tucked away in Solvang. Our group was looking for our first wine tasting and as we came across Clean Slate, we were warmly welcomed as the first guests of the day. The Owner, Jason, was fabulous as he described each wine with enthusiasm and knowledge. He's extremely familiar with each wine offered and since most are local smaller vineyards that don't have the space for a tasting room, Clean Slate provides a venue to extend these wonderful wines to his guests. Our host was very welcoming from the beginning and did extra step for us to move our table in the middle of the meal and all of their staffs were extra friendly! Sorry to say I had a poor experience. I came because of all the good reviews. We came for taco Tuesday. They served 4 tacos on these really hard tortillas. The portions were very small. Smaller than a street taco. The beans had been sitting for a while and were very dry. They were out of most of the condiments. Customer service was not a priority. There was no one in front of us to get the tacos yet it still took a long time. They saw we were waiting but it didn't matter. The waitresses were very nice but seemed distracted. They took forever to bring us wine. There wasn't enough for 2 glasses so she went to get another and it took another 10 -15 to get the second glass. I had to keep asking for our food tickets. Finally on the 3rd ask we got them. The place was not that busy. Sorry to say but $65 for 2 glasses of wine and cold, small, no taste tacos will not work. I may give it one more chance but walked away upset.. Good luck! read more
