Came in on a Monday as we heard that is their "Cajun Night" as they have a Lousiana trained chef. (She was off that night, so our meal was prepared by the sous chef). He did a good job as the food was excellent and we had recently returned from a trip to New Orleans. The red beans and rice with sausage was on point -- and the g/f loved her shrimp creole. We had the dog with us so were the only ones sitting outside. The heat lamps were acting up but the fireplace worked so that saved the day. Only complaint is that they were playing loud mostly heavy metal music -- when nice cajun tunes or New Orleans jazz would have made the night perfect. I had not been here since they first opened and before Covid shut down hit. Returning again was way overdue. We addended a fantastic six course dinner event last night. The each course was outstanding and perfectly paired with wines from the progressive wine maker Shawn Hogan of Disco wines. Each course was a new take on more traditional dishes taking advantage of locally sourced ingredients. The wine was anything but traditional. Again the pairing made the evening. Spent a full day wine tasting in Solvang and Los Olivos. This was easily my favorite place. Slightly off the beaten path of the main road, Jason and his wife give the upmost top notch customer service and are extremely welcoming. Their knowledge of wine and grape vineyards throughout the area was exposed as Jason walked us through each of the pourings during our wine flight tasting. In an extremely cozy setting outdoors, I was comfortable, yet having a jamming time. Their small plates was perfect for a mid day snack to pair with the wine. We had the flatbread and chorizo dish, both were fantastic. I definitely recommend coming here as not only you will have some of the best wine the area has to offer, but you'll also get to learn about each bottle as well. On top of all that, they offer Abita Root Beer, which I personally love as a root beer lover. I can't recommend the place enough. Strongly recommend, this was an easy 5 stars. read more

What I had: - Patatas bravas ($9) - Spanish meatballs ($15) How it tasted: - Loved everything I received. The meatballs were succulent and well-seasoned, and I recall sharing a dish that had greens in it but can't recall the name...however, they were also well cooked and delicious. Also had an apricot tasting wine, but due to losing my receipt I can't recall the name. Why did I give it a five? - Extremely nice staff, prompt service, and delicious selection of foods/wines. Also, it was nice to go and have it so close to a small hotel just across the street. The owner was also extremely helpful in troubleshooting the outdoor heating (it had broken and he refused to give up for roughly an hour of our visit), but we eventually only left due to being cold. Edited to add: I'm changing my star rating to 4 from my prior rating of 3 because the owner/manager brought up a very good point in his response - I didn't have the wine here, even though it is a wine bar. I'm raising the star rating because I don't want any casual yelp users to look at my score and decide not to come here. But I stand by my comments - the food is meh. It's fine and nothing was outright bad, but it wasn't 5/5 food and I was especially disappointed by the mushy overcooked cauliflower. Is that analogous to going to a steakhouse and saying the mushroom and spinach side wasn't good? Sure. But the food options are on the menu, and I ordered them, and they're not great. I should have looked more at the menu. This is definitely a wine bar that serves some food and beer. They had 10 beers on tap but only one was an IPA which is what I was craving. And the food selection was very limited. The back page of the menu was mainly just cheese-sheep, goat, or cow. My wife got a squash-spinach dish that she liked. I got the Spanish meatballs that were just ok. They advertise small plates so it was good we weren't too hungry. The ambience was good but it made me wish I was more of a wine guy. I could imagine sitting and sipping for a few hours with a few small plates to clean the palate on occasion. But after dark, the town seemed to die down so not much to look at. read more

Honestly can't remember the last time I've written a Yelp review, but I also can't remember EVER having the quality of service I received yesterday. If more stars were possible that would definitely be the case, but 5 will have to do. My wife and I arrived in town yesterday and while walking around decided that Clean Slate would be a good place to stop for a drink and snack. That decision would turn out to be a great one. Our server, Nina, was one of the friendliest servers we've ever interacted with. She offered plenty of advice not only on the plates and drinks that were offered, but on things to do around town. Altogether the whole staff was incredibly friendly and personable. We ate the Patatas Bravas and the Poblano Flatbread, and they were absolutely delicious. Our server, Nina, was incredibly knowledgeable about the drinks in the menu and was happy to offer suggestions and point us toward drinks we ended up loving Coming here is definitely worth every penny, and some. The food, drinks and atmosphere are great but the outstanding service is just the icing on the cake. The owners of this business must have phenomenal taste in food, drink, and the staff they hire. I don't write many reviews but this place deserves one. It was the first evening of our trip to Solvang and what a way to kick it off. The service was warm and friendly but efficient. They went out of their way to set us up at a patio table where my big dog would be comfortable and yet out of the way. We were there on Cajun night and the Shrimp Ponchatrain was outstanding. As was their private label wine Bocce*Ball. We were going to go back the next night but plans changed and we couldn't make it. But next time we're there, we'll be visiting Clean Slate. read more
