Also if you have a larger party, they add the 20% gratuity on the gross bill - not on the subtotal. I found out after I paid.

They even brought her over a Nightmare Before Christmas activity kit to keep busy and we bought a Michael Myers sticker as well as a Nightmare Before Christmas hair clip to take home. I'm kicking myself now for not buying a t-shirt! Kids are very welcome at this winery which was a huge plus for us! Staff were personable and made our visit very enjoyable! It tasted like the popcorn was doused in essential oils, so strong it was choking us to consume the soggy popcorn. Just brutal. I can't say one good thing about that popcorn. The one star I gave them is for the bow wow bag they gave my pup - it was a little goodie bag of milkbones which he appreciated!

Every wine we tried was excellent, but my personal favorite was the Olallieberry wine, the perfect balance of sweetness with just a little tartness. This wasn't just a wine tasting, it was an experience. Great atmosphere, great wine, and even better company. Definitely a 5-star stop and a place we'll be talking about for a long time.

Call me biased, but I keep coming back to this place and for great reason! With the exception of Monday nights, much of the menu regularly changes based on what treasures Chef Melissa finds at the local Farmers' Market! As a result, the flat-breads and specials provide fresh and original options every time! The exception to the rule is the superlative Red Beans and Rice that she makes every Monday. This is one of my favorite nights to go because not only is southern specialty excellent, it is also a wonderful night to experiment with pairing their ever evolving wine and beer list. With about 50 different wines by the glass and multiple taps to choose from, the options are almost overwhelming. Fortunately, the staff is not just incredibly friendly but also very knowledgeable and always have great recommendations! Long story short, do not miss this place. I was boring and ordered a basic breakfast, but the bacon was one of the most delicious ones I've had. I asked for extra crispy hash brown, and they did a great job. My significant other ordered a burger and it was to die for, I'm blanking on the name of the burger, but it had bacon, jalapeño aioli and came with the best side of onion rings. If you love onion rings, you should order it. My other friend had the French dip and that too was delicious, and this horseradish aïoli that it came with was amazing. And lastly, we also tried the bison chili which was tasty as well. The prices were quite reasonable. The server was great, and our overall experience was just enjoyable and we look forward to going back. Plenty of free parking in their private lot.

Yes, my dear Yelp Review Readers, here you will find plenty of parking and the River Grill with striking overviews of the River (Golf) Course. The restaurant itself is fashioned in a "western" theme style, which is apropos since it is affiliated with the more famously known Alisal Ranch (a 10K+ acre California luxury Dude Ranch). The restaurant is spacious...plenty of tables and seating both indoor and outdoor. We were greeted as we entered the establishment and seated immediately. It was around 1:30pm and only two other tables inside and two tables outside the restaurant had diners. Our waitress was quick to hand us menus and very attentive in her customer service throughout our meal. I believe the Manager or Assistant Manager did a "table touch" and was very friendly in offering what ever assistance might be needed. The Menu (see pictures) wasn't overly expansive but offered a decent selection of offerings that would seem appropriate in satisfying a wide variety of patrons. After some conversation our Server took our order: Drinks - Watermelon Margarita (5/5) Appetizers (For the Table) - Crispy Brussel Sprouts (4/5), Smoked Chicken Wings (2/5...sadly "fried", bland and not moist under the "fried crust coating") and one of the offered "specials", the Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad (5/5). Mains - Vaquero Burger (4/5 ...it "came" with the "right stuff" on it) with a side Salad, Bison Chile (4/5...if you like chile , this is a good bet), and from the Breakfast Menu, served all day on weekends, River Grill Eggs Benedict (5/5...exactly what one would expect). There was plenty of leftover food to take home. It was a decent meal...but nothing was a "standout" and none of the items served connected in anyway to Solvang's theme (as would have been the case,if we ate at one of the restaurants in town). So on this occasion, in this Yelper's opinion the River Grill At the Alisal certainly met expectations, but unfortunately, didn't exceed them and therefore truly earned this "it has its pros" 3.5 Star Review.

Until this visit, I've always had a positive impression. Last night, our group purchased drinks from the Sideways Lounge and sat in the outdoor fireplace area. One member of our group was smoking when an employee approached us and rudely told us smoking wasn't allowed there. That wasn't the issue--we would have gladly complied if the policy had simply been explained respectfully. Instead, we were interrupted multiple times while trying to ask why there were no signs indicating the rule. The employee repeatedly responded, "Well, I'm telling you now." He then told us to go outside the fenced lounge area--even into the parking lot--to smoke, despite posted signs stating that alcohol cannot leave the lounge area. The interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational and inconsistent. Businesses absolutely have the right to enforce their policies. Customers should also expect to be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, this one interaction overshadowed an otherwise enjoyable trip. After years of staying here and recommending the property to others, I no longer plan to return or recommend Sideways Inn for future golf and wine weekends. I sincerely hope management addresses the customer service issues that led to this experience.

Among the many spots in Solvang that make my heart go pitter-patter is The Good Life: a cellar wine/ale/tavern- bar. Grab your favorite wench and come along to grab a pint... Stroll down Mission Drive in the famous Danish city of Solvang and you will be delighted to venture upon The Good Life that appears to pop out of a medieval history book with exposed wooden beans, plaster exterior walls and an entrance that resides at basement level (they don't call it a cellar bar for nothing!). Owned by a husband-wife team with extensive hospitality and restaurant experience under their belts in 2012; the charm of The Good Life is instantaneous and perfect for a gal like me obsessed with this sort of thing. Prepare to be instantly transported into the 15th century! Once you cross the threshold of The Good Life, the Shakesperean feel continues but is also modernized with a glowing fireplace, plush arm chairs and high bar tables (plus bar seating) and floor to ceiling wine racks. The Good Life is a perfect ratio of Solvang tradition with hints of romance making it ideal for a casual beverage, tourist pop-in or memorable date night drink. We were immediately greeted by the male manning The Good Life without any attitude or distaste towards us for coming in as he was preparing to close for the evening. The Good Life features an amazing menu of local and international wines, beers, ales, meads, ciders, and ports that make The Good Life feel fancy-schmancy and artisan; but also, neighborhood friendly for your favorite hipster or friend next door. My boyfriend and I shared a cider (I wish I remembered the specific one but alas my memory evades me) while enjoying the atmosphere of warmth at The Good Life. Other customers sat in the plush chairs with notepads and tarot cards, an older couple arrived to cap off the evening and I enjoyed the view of my boyfriend in a medieval-Danish inspired cellar bar. The Good Life is standout at accommodating to all customers and making sure no one feels out of place. A bountiful tip as important as the bosom of a medieval bar wench: the bathroom at The Good Life is labeled as 'Office'. Don't worry, you won't walk in on someone preparing accounting books and the only business happening behind this door involves you and your private matters. Well, to my dismay, I made it back home to Glendale and discovered I did not have my bag with me. I must add that at this point I was about 6 months pregnant and very emotional. I bought this book to read to my daughter after she's born, so it was just really hard for me. We called to ask about the book and spoke to Chuck, one of the managers, who told us they had it. I fully expected to call, learn they had it, and be told I could come pick it up or something, but no--he took it to UPS the next day they were open and shipped it to me. This level of customer service is so refreshing in a day when everyone seems to be in it for themselves. Chuck went above and beyond to ensure I received this book (didn't know I was pregnant, so that couldn't have swayed him). Aside from having great food, beers, and overall laid back vibes, they have unmatched customer service. Highly recommend.

There was plenty of seating, even in the cool evening weather, making it a nice place to relax after a long drive. The food was good, and the drinks definitely hit the spot. One thing to know is that everything is ordered at the walk-up window rather than through table service. During our visit, the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. A few of our orders were mixed up, our food came out at different times, and two bussers accidentally cleared plates that we were still eating from. To the restaurant's credit, they quickly apologized and replaced the food without any issue, which we appreciated. While the service hiccups were an inconvenience, the staff handled the situation professionally. Overall, it's still a solid stop for good food and drinks, just be prepared for a potentially busy atmosphere during peak times.

My wife had the kale salad (she loved it) and we shared the fried cauliflower and mashed potatoes (also good) The one downside was that I had the pork chop as my main and it was way overdone. It was a bit tough to eat. Otherwise Mattei's would have been 5 stars for sure. The next morning we went back and visited the coffee bar. Pork sausage paired with berries- not good, thin dry branzino swilling in over acidic tomatillo salsa with roti flat bread on the side that tastes like hockey pucks, over whipped mashed potatoes that taste like they have glue added to the mix. They definitely need a new head chef! However the ambience, appetizers and dessert were worthwhile for a pitstop.
