This is the shop with the Blue Moon car & dummies in front. I was referred here by another auto shop, because I had a check engine light that they said was related to a crankshaft position sensor error. They said this was a pretty bad check engine message that could leave me on the side of the road if I didn't get it checked, so I headed down to Clear Lake Auto. Clear Lake Auto did a full diagnostic of my car, and identified half a dozen things that could be wrong, which added up to over $900 of repairs. They did not find anything wrong with the crankshaft position sensor. I told them to do a few minor (but extremely overpriced) maintenance services. About a week later, my car turned off at a red light. I had it towed back to the shop. This time they found a problem with the camshaft position sensor, and I had them replace it, but I was not particularly thrilled about it. Pros: They offer a free shuttle service, so I was able to drop off my car, and they drove me to my office down the road (I did really like this, because it meant not bugging my coworkers to pick me up all the time). They also washed the car & I think they even vacuumed the interior before giving it back, which was nice, but not really necessary. Cons: Price. I don't remember all the prices they'd quoted me, but on many of them, I knew I could get the same service at a shop down the road for literally half the cost. Also, there is the fact that they missed a problem, even with an error message telling them exactly where the problem was, and it left me stranded a week later. I am sure it is possible that the first time they checked the car, the camshaft was temporarily behaving itself, but that didn't make it less irritating when it broke down after they said it was fine. read more

I am glad that I found this place on yelp. I needed last minute AC work done on my truck in addition to new tires on my JetSki trailer in order to go out of town for the 4th July weekend. I called at 7:15 AM and the owner answered the phone. He assured me that they would have me in and out that day. He kept me very informed on the whole process and informed me of a couple of things that needed to be done that I was unaware of. They also offer a free shuttle service which was very helpful. This is the only shop I'll take my car to. Fair pricing, but most importantly they are honest. They took my car here for a routine service and squeaking brakes. They had to keep it overnight, but they offer free transportation to and from the shop. Took the time to explain the shape my brakes were in and how much it would cost. I couldn't afford everything, but they were more than willing to help me figure out what I really needed to do in the moment and what I could wait to do later. Fast forward a few months later and I'm preparing to take a trip across the country towing a trailer. I brought my car in to see if I needed to replace my brake pads. Even though they knew I wouldn't be back, they were honest about not needing new pads yet and didn't even charge me since I just had a brake inspection done with them a month ago. They even topped off all my fluids and made sure I was ready to go on my trip. This is an excellent auto shop. We were referred to them by a friend in Oct 2012, and we have had both of our cars in a couple of times over the past 10 months. The work quality and customer service is always spectacular (John who works there is especially thorough and friendly). They always do a detailed inspection of our vehicles to find the root cause of the issue, and we never feel that they are recommending excessive work to remedy the problem. Been going here since I moved to Webster a few years ago. I am very particular about my truck and who I'll let touch it. The staff here at clear lake are honest and fair. I trust their judgment and they never try and pull wool over my eyes. No games with them. I have lived in the Clear Lake area for many years, and thought there was no other option for auto care for my Land Rover and Jaguar other than the painful drive to the closest dealer. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! With the holiday crunch, they managed to squeeze me in and got my brakes fixed ( my brakes were worn down so much that I caused irreparable damage to the rotors) as well as a brake fluid flush, and an oil change. They offered an amazing shuttle service that picked me up from my home as soon as my vehicle was fixed. The pricing was incredibly fair, and I did not feel taken advantage of. To add to the amazing customer service, they explained in great detail what was done, what I need to look out for, and what I don't need to worry about in regards to my vehicle's maintenance. When I went outside to collect my vehicle, I found out that they had washed it, vacuumed it and wiped down all the console areas. It's sincerely look like a brand new vehicle inside and out! The employees here are incredibly sweet, knowledgeable and skilled in their field, and will not take financial advantage over their customers. In a world of shady mechanics, and people trying to take advantage of me, I am so lucky to have found this place. My first experience was last year. I had an old jeep, and they fixed 2 major issues for very little money relatively speaking. They fixed a few minor issues for free. They always gave me a ride to and from, and at the point where my jeep had too big a problem, they bought it off of me for a fair price. I just got a new(new to me) jeep, and had 2 problems. No blinker, and coolant level low blinking. Bobby the manager remembered me, and came out and fixed both things for free. THE BIGGEST, MOST IMPORTANT THING HERE IS THAT BOBBY, THE MANAGER, GREATLY VALUES, AND UNDERSTANDS THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERNET REVIEWS. I've been a satisfied customer of Clear Lake Auto Service for many years. They have always proven to be honest, reliable, fair, and dependable. However, I am disappointed I did not read the fine print when they swapped 4 newer tires purchased there (from a different minivan) for 3 tires I had also purchased there on my current minivan. Apparently, the Road Hazard warranty did not transfer even though I purchased the tires from them and they moved them to a different vehicle. They wanted nearly $600 to replace the tires. The 4 new tires I purchased less than 3 years ago had 21k miles on them...but that didn't seem to matter. Really disappointing experience, as I've always appreciated their service. The pricing is good. All the guys are great, helpful and very professional. They stand behind their work. Every time I have had work done on one of my vehicles someone has brought me home and picked me up when the work was done via free shuttle. Only one did a job not get done in time and they gave me a loaner vehicle. There has not been any work to be done they could not handle for me. They even fixed my dad's vehicle. First I want to say is the service has been amazing! Now on with our story. I guess we didn't have the typical repair issues as most customers, the first place we took our 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca too was Subaru of Clear Lake and after a lengthy conversation over the supposed issues they discovered with our car, such as a cracked head and torque converter in the transmission is going the grand total would be 13,000 dollars. Yes 13,000! The direct quote from the service manager was, "you need a new engine and transmission." Yeah right I thought to myself, the car has never over heated I drove it into your dealership just to get the code checked out and now you are trying to get me to buy a new car. What B.S.!!! So we yelped for an Auto Repair shop in our neighborhood and discovered Clear Lake Auto Service, and after driving our car around for a month we made an appointment and to get the code checked out. WOW what was described as a car on it's death bed is only 3 coils that are dying. The repair cost was much much lower than the 13,000 and now she runs like the beast she once was. Save your self some time if drive a Subaru (or another make) and avoid Subaru of Clear Lake and take your car into Clear Lake Auto Service. They will get the job done right. read more

I bought one tire from here- an Eagle ST. The tread started coming off within a month.

Was very pleased with this company when I took my Lexus in after battery died. I had parked in my Mom's garage and a week later found it with a dead battery. AAA jump-started the battery and gave me a print-out showing the battery was not re-chargeable and would need to get a new one. It seemed odd as the battery was only 7 months old. He said to leave the vehicle running and Google someone who carried Interstate batteries. That is how I found Clear Lake Auto Service. Adrian Pina answered the phone and could not have been nicer and more sympathetic as I told him I was heading to MD Anderson to pick up my mother when I had this problem. I took the car in and Adrian greeted me at the door, introduced himself and personally drove my car (still running) around to the service bay. This next part is what makes it a special service. Adrian, who could have sold me a new top of the line battery which my car requires, said instead that he found that it just needed a longer charge. It has been fine ever since and he refused payment. Disappointed. I have to start by saying the staff here are great people. I only had one other repair done here earlier this year, and was happy with the outcome. Recently I brought my same car in for an issue I was having with it, and it was diagnosed with a front end problem.I was quoted a specific price for the repair. It was kind of steep at $900 plus change. Nonetheless I agreed. When I got home just for kicks, I called around for other estimates and two came in at around $890 plus change, and one a bit over $900 plus change. Figuring the estimates were close, I was comfortable with my decision to go with CLA .... UNTIL ... Clear Lake Auto called me and said the repair would now cost $1200. plus change. The increase was essentially because of the added labor TO ASSEMBLE THE PARTS. The other THREE reputable repair centers quoted me to be $400.00 less to do the SAME SERVICE WITH THE SAME ASSEMBLY. I refused the service at Clear Lake Auto and took it to one of the other repair shops. I will probably return to CLA for lesser services but never again for major repairs. read more
