Oh my goodness ! This place is amazing. It is a next level Piccadilly and great portion sizes. More on expensive side but very worth it. They come to tables offering to go boxes and refills on drinks as well. You go through line and pay for everything. Then you immediately take everything off trays for staff to collect. They have been going for 80+ years and had some signs to suggest they were featured on GMA!

Homely and hearty food. Service and atmosphere: The service was outstanding. Everyone was very friendly and super helpful. The staff was offering to carry food to the table. The restaurant is big, clean and well organised. Food and drinks: The food was very tasty and delicious. They offer home made style dishes with great variety of meats, vegetables, salads and desserts. I had turkey. The meat was very succulent and well cooked. I would recommend salad with cheek peas and feta cheese. You can opt for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Pricing: $$ - super worth it!

Having been here a few times years ago the level of inconsistency has me discouraged and kind of over ever returning but recently found myself nearby and hungry I thought what the heck it just opened. Well let me say I don't know if it's new ownership or just now paying attention to detail but my visit this time was a lot different. We got the turkey a salmon and both were very good. Lines move fast the workers very friendly and only gripe was the mashed potatoes as gravy had no flavor an were kind of runny.

My second time! I came back because I never stopped thinking about that fried chicken. Its a long drive for me but worth it completely . They have the best fried chicken. Lots of delicious options and everything is fresh! The service is excellent. I didn't need help but a lady insisted on taking my tray to find my family and I a table so I could continue to pay. She insisted and that was a great touch. Always someone coming around with a cart of necessities from refills, to go plates and more! Genius idea for a great experience l. Restaurant is beautiful and they outdoor seating was ideal for a very large family. I didn't even mention the giant salad bar and desserts!

Pitiful portion of green beans for $5.

The portions and prices are a travesty. $21 for a 6 inch plank of cod?? I'd rather buy an 18 inch long plank of salmon for that price at Costco and cook it myself. $5 for a small plate of green beans?? GTFOH. I implore everybody to go to Luby's instead, where the value and the taste of their food is better. Cleburne's honestly has the worst Chicken Fried Steak I've ever had in Houston. I swear, whoever does the cooking here has long COVID cause there's like no flavor in ANYTHING here.

My friend's green beans looked like they didn't cut the beans.

I went to Cleburne Cafeteria with a group of friends who reserved a room for a quick gathering. That was on a Wednesday and the restaurant was about half filled during the dinnertime. I was surprised that I drove by here thousands of times and never knew such wonderful restaurant existed. According to a friend, this restaurant started 1940's. I know that's not his age, but he is more knowledgeable to the history in Houston than me. The portions appear to be huge but it's a perception because the dishes are too small. Everything was overfilled. They look kind of disgusting to me actually. They look like my fat belly spilling over my belt. Ugh. The prices were good, though. I ordered Chicken Dumplings ($10.79) and Kale Salad ($4.25). The bill only came out $16.29 with tax. I love the flavor of the dishes, however, they didn't look appealing as they overfilled everything. I also liked the way they serve drinks. There were water no ice, water with ice and iced tea on the drink counter. I couldn't take a picture because an old hangry man standing behind me like I slowed him down in the line, while there were just us 2 in the line. lol I think I would pay a special visit to come back during lunchtime to check out other dishes. Maybe I'll bring a friend or two.

Having been around for a LONG time, Cleburne Cafeteria has the process and recipes down pat! You walk in, step up and grab a tray, try not to be overwhelmed with the options and home-cooked smells, and start ordering. I have to order fried okra and I usually order other side dishes/veggies. Their mashed potatoes are great and you can pick brown or cream gravy. The rolls and cornbread are fresh and hot. Then you slide your tray down to the dessert selection. Then, pick your beverage. They have iced water, water with no ice, iced tea, and a soda fountain. Checkout and pay, then go find a seat. The helpful staff will help you carry your (by now heavy) tray to your table. They have staff available picking up trays, refilling your drinks, providing extra plates or silverware, butter, lemons, whatever you may need! Great service and delicious home-cooked food!!!

12/2/2025: I like cafeterias. I was raised on them with my grandparents, so they hold a special memory for my taste buds. Cleburne definitely has great service and large portions, but I wasn't crazy about the food. My fish, casserole, mushrooms, and tea were $25.89! Yes, the portions are large, but they were so large I could not finish them and I had plans after, so I could not take my leftovers. I wouldn't have anyway because they would heat well. So, for my money side, I was not impressed. The fish is not even close to being as good as Luby's, the casserole was made with fresh green beans, so it was a little firm, and the mushroom were a little lacking in flavor. They don't have a lot of options like other cafeterias. It was very basic on the sides options. They have okra, but it is not fried okra. I wasn't impressed, so I am giving them 3 stars.

    Beef Stroganoff- daily special

First visit on a visit home to Houston. I had never heard of this place until living out of state. This is a really nice Cafeteria. It reminds us of the Wyatt's Cafeteria we had growing up in Pasadena. The building itself is really nice and you enter into a nice spacious lobby with a history timeline of the restaurant on one wall and paintings by one of the longtime owners around the other walls. You begin your journey by choosing whether or not you would like a salad before choosing your entree. Tonight we chose one of the daily specials, Beef Stroganoff ($14.95) which was really tasty. We also chose the Chicken Fried Steak with White Cream Gravy ($13.95). We ordered more sides than we needed so we had lots to take home. We ordered Macaroni & Cheese ($4.25), Squash Casserole ($4.45) , Bowl of Fruit ($4.45), Deviled Eggs ($3.95), Greek Salad($4.25), Bowl of Vegetable Soup ($5.99), slice of Apple Pie ($5.45), Slice of Strawberry Cream Cake ($6.45), dinner roll ($1.15). They had staff members walking around refilling drinks and checking on us throughout our meal. All of the staff members looked professional and polished and were very helpful. This was an excellent experience all around. The restrooms were very clean and fresh too. While we ordered much too much food due to our excitement over how amazing everything looked, smelled and tasted...we had plenty to bring home to eat again over the next couple of days. This is a restaurant that we recommend and will be excited to experience again on our future visits. There is nothing that I would not order again!

    Fried Chicken & Mashed Potatoes

I see this place pop up randomly on my feed from time to time. I am a fan of Luby's cafeteria fried chicken, so is this place was somewhat similar? I didn't know what to expect. While I did see the Yelp reviews beforehand I chose to dismiss them because Luby's overall doesn't have raving reviews and I love their fried chicken, value, and price. Parking at CC is easy. Walking in the place was clean overall and the line had quite a bit of people for a Sunday night. For a cafeteria style restaurant - I was a bit taken back at the all the ala cart pricing. There were basically no combo style meals. So 1 dish can easily get you to almost $20! The fried chicken wasn't overall good. I think it may have been over cooked. The mashed potatoes were good but pricy for the ala cart side. Now I'm sure I'm not their main demographic - as it looked like people over the age of 60 loved this place. But if I'm comparing this place to Luby's fried chicken, Luby's is better and much better value. Customer service on the other hand was excellent. The line help was great and moving, the table runners were cleaning and refilling waters.

Easy five star review! I'm shocked I haven't reviewed this legendary place as I have been coming here for 20 years. 20 years ago when I worked at bubbles car wash, the owner would come by and give us all gift cards for Christmas. What a nice gesture! I never forgot that! Food: the food is simply amazing. The fried fish has been my go to for years. The Mac and cheese is good. So are the sweet potato casserole was great! The corn bread is top notch. Now that slice of pineapple cake was simply amazing ! My gf loved her salmon. This is a top notch establishment serving up excellent food with great customer service! I will forever be a client and bring friends, family and clients here forever. Thank you all for being a houston staple !

So glad to dish all this goodness to Yelpers and remind them of another gem in West U that will not only give you a great place to get a bite but satisfy that sweet tooth.

I've been to Dish Society a handful of times over the years. This was my first time checking out…read morethis location. I stopped by with my buddy on a Thursday evening close to 9 p.m. Free parking was a cinch in the parking lot they share with several other businesses. Service (4.5/5): You order at the counter and then they bring your food out to you. The lady who brought me my food checked on me twice and was super nice. She called me "sweetheart," a little Southern hospitality goes a long way. Ambiance (4/5): Modern, clean, and comfortable. In line with other Dish Society locations I've been to. We sat at a booth/table combo. Drinks (4.5/5): I love when a restaurant has more than your standard selection of soft drinks. You'll find that at Dish Society. They have "craft" sodas and a nice selection of juice blends. Plus sweet and unsweet tea. Food (4/5): I went with a cup of the tomato bisque soup and the Nutella French toast. The soup tasted as good as it looked. Some croutons or a piece of garlic bread would have been nice, but outside of that, this starter couldn't have been better. The Nutella French Toast was similarly well done. I love French Toast and I love Nutella. So this was a match made in heaven. Along with some sliced strawberries and some blackberries, I was happy I went with a breakfast dish for dinner (they serve brunch all day). The prices are affordable for the quality of the food. My only complaint? The portion sizes are pretty small. Case in point: two slices of French toast when most places will give you four. Pro tip: Join their club for discounts.

It's a mystery... Shh!!…read more ...why Luby's ... Shh! ...food court is in such a small location. That fact, plus many people think doctors are evil, 'Dr. Evil' comes to mind from the movie "Austin Powers - International Man of Mystery". This review consists of review points (prefixed with "---") followed by a relevant movie quote. --- Location: They're Optimistic. They think a small cafeteria inside a medical building only offering breakfast and lunch is good enough to attract people from the surrounding nice housing to come inside to eat. --- Number Two: "Hit me" Casino Dealer: "You have 17, sir" Number Two: "I like to live dangerously" Dealer: [Hit for four]: "21. Very good, sir!" [to Austin P] Dealer: "5" Austin Powers: "I'll stay" Dealer: "I suggest you hit, sir" Austin P: "I also like to live dangerously." Dealer: "20 beats your 5. I'm sorry, sir." Austin P: "Well I must admit, cards aren't my bag, baby." --- On 3rd floor of Kelsey-Seybold, I am waiting on a relative and have 3 hrs to kill. Some people in the waiting area seem angry at the doctors, and question their motives.--- Scott Evil: "I was thinking I like animals. Maybe I'd be a vet." Dr. Evil: "An evil vet?" Scott Evil: "No! Maybe like work in a petting zoo." Dr. Evil: "An evil petting zoo?" --- Waiting room is boring and loud with people on cell phones, and noisy children in the waiting area, with parents attempting discipline/#Fail with a "Shh!" sound from Mom.--- Austin Powers: "That really hurt! I'm gonna have a lump there, you idiot! Who throws a shoe? Honestly! You fight like a woman!" --- So, I decide to get breakfast. Luby's is in the middle of the 4-story building on floor 2. There aren't many elevators, so they're busy with staff, patients & visitors.--- Austin P: "She's the village bicycle! Everyone's had a ride." --- There are a cluster of mini-bars for Luby's, Fuddruckers and Starbucks. For the most part, food is prepared off site.--- Scott Evil: "I hate you! I hate you! I wish I was never artificially created in a lab!" --- Menu: Breakfast offers basic eggs, sausage, pancakes & French Toast. A sign on the counter says for lunch they offer pizza and Fuddruckers burgers. You won't choke on the options.--- Austin P: "Jimi Hendrix deceased, drugs. Janis Joplin deceased, alcohol. Mama Cass deceased, ham sandwich." --- At about 8:00am, there is no long line here, perhaps because they are still in their doctor's office waiting area. The woman in front of me who can't make up her mind asks "What is your favorite?", and the server offers her opinion.--- Basil Exposition: "Austin, the Cold War is over!" Austin P: "Finally those capitalist pigs will pay for their crimes, eh? Eh comrades? Eh?" Basil Exposition: "Austin... we won." Austin P: "Oh, smashing, groovy, yay capitalism!" ---Breakfast cook is a bit impatient to patients who patiently study the few options.--- Dr. Evil: "This is Frau Farbissina, founder and leader of the militant wing of the Salvation Army." Austin P: "I won't bite... hard." --- Check-out Line: Everyone who got food from Luby's and the snack bins jostles for a place in the Starbucks line, because Luby's line cashier is missing.--- Alotta Fagina: "How dare you break wind before me." Austin Powers: "I'm sorry I didn't realize it was your turn." ---A long line forms at Starbucks to buy Luby's food. After a while, a second Cashier finally arrives and opens the Luby's register.--- Dr. Evil: "Finally, we come to my number two man. His name? Number Two. " Austin P: "What exactly do you do, Mr. Number Two?" Number Two: "That's my business. Now if you'll excuse, I have to go to the little boys' room." --- For me, $5.32 for one egg, half link of sausage, two thin slices of cantaloupe and a Starbucks coffee. You are used to high prices in captive environments like airports and hospitals.--- Dr. Evil: "I demand the sum of... ONE MILLION dollars." --- Eating Area is big & quiet with a good view of the front pond and Holcombe. Most customers seem to be hospital staff, judging by their uniforms. Security Guard asked why I was taking photos. Before I could finish a sentence, he was telling me to put away the camera. I started to ask why, and he interrupted to tell me he had security concerns.--- Scott Evil: "It's no hassle... " Dr. Evil: "Shh!" Scott Evil: "But... " Dr. Evil: "Shh!" Scott Evil: "I'm... " Dr. Evil: "Shh!" Scott Evil: "All I'm say..." Dr. Evil: "Shh!... Knock-knock." Scott Evil: "Who's there?" Dr. Evil: "Shh!" Scott Evil: "But... " Dr. Evil: "Let me tell you a little story about a man named Shh! Shh! even before you start. That was a pre-emptive 'shh!' Now, I have a whole bag of 'shh!' with your name on it." --- Food Taste: It was a good breakfast even though it may not look so great in presentation.--- Austin P: "Well, no offense, but if that is a woman it looks like she was beaten with an ugly stick!"

I have to concur with Larry B.'s review that this has to be Luby's best kept secret…read more The place is located on the second floor in the Kelsey Seybold Clinic. I have joked about Luby's to-go service on how my five minute order takes 30 minutes for me to receive it, but since this location only serve three different entrées each day (excluding weekends) the service is quick. They do have the menu posted online, but unfortunately, it hasn't been updated since September 2014. The staff is awesome and friendly. Really personable. My go-to place for a Luby's craving.
