I grew up going to cafeterias and we frequently took our children to Luby's. It had been awhile since we had been to Cleburne so we decided to take our granddaughters there today. It was awful. We got there around 5 and I'm convinced the food we were served had been out in the serving trays since lunch. The fried fish was cold, the chicken fried steak was very tough, the mac and cheese was cold and overall it was one of the worst meals I have ever been served. Went to Cleburne today. The food was awesome and fresh! I've been a few times now and I love the salmon and the broccoli and cheese casserole. Oh and their German chocolate cake is TOP NOTCH. The service was quick and they have people constantly going around and pre-bussing (I'm a prebus snob so this was so nice). Probably the best cafeteria style food in Houston? Certainly serves you great portions and the food is plentiful, you could probably share a dish if you'd like. Plenty of selections to choose from salad bar to soups and main entrees. Don't forget to leave room for a dessert dish and staff will help you select a table and carry for you if need be. Great food! A little pricey but these days what isn't? My only annoyance is they sometimes don't allow "to go orders" from the serving line. But there's no way you know that until you stand in line for 30-40 minutes. Perhaps they could place signs at the front door and down the hallway to the entrance to the serving line that to-go orders should be placed at the to-go counter? I've witnessed several customers becoming irate at the cashiers. De-escalate.....too many angry people in this world. Easy fix. read more

I've been to Cleburne's whenever I needed a comfort food fix and I didn't want to do all that cooking and it certainly satisfies the craving. Service is always great, the dining room clean, and the food is fresh and never sits for long due to the steady and quickly moving lines. Because it's the holiday season I got the turkey and dressing with brown gravy. It also comes with cranberry sauce, but note that all other sides are a la carte which can quickly add up. I also got the yams and green bean casserole which I shared both with my friend. All of this was almost 30 dollars not including tip! The turkey was juicy and the gravy you could tell was from scratch. The dressing was flavorful and the cranberry sauce had actual cranberries in it. The green bean casserole, I feel like you can never go wrong with and wasn't too mushy or overcooked. The only item I'd probably never order again is the yams. They tasted fine if a bit on the bland side, but why were they so neon orange? The color was off putting. I tried my friend's chicken fried steak and it wasn't bad either. If you ever feel like you miss your grandma's home cooking, this place will do in a pinch!. read more

I have not been here in a couple of years . Everything I ordered was awful . Fried chicken very dry . Mashed potatoes cold Creamed spinach was inedible ! Gummy like glue . A one-and-done for me. Wanted to love it, but quality and value were subpar for me. Pros: Mac & Cheese and coleslaw were delicious, and pork chop main dish was pretty good. The restaurant itself and the presentation is a great environment and it's kept clean + service was great. Cons: Main dish (pork chop) wasn't worth the $16 for me and the cost of that plus the sides wasn't a value either. Quality-wise - either the flour was bad for the hush puppies and jalapeño cornbread or they were overfried/cooked because they were both nasty and barely edible (and I'll eat just about anything). read more
