Everything was fine, which was kind of a let down... We have driven past this place many times and decided to give it a try. Loved the historical nature of the restaurant and thought it might have been associated with a Christie's seafood that was in San Antonio many years ago. It was not... :( Nice place! Cool surroundings and nice tables and decor. We got here early and got a table. Nice people and good service! Food was just OK. Crab dipper appetizer was OK. Crab tasted a little old. Bread and butter were good as were the salads. My son got the Salmon which was pretty good (came with dirty rice that was alright. My wife had the whol Branzino prepared Greek style, and it was good, but not great (maybe a little overdone). Our sons neighbor recommended the "Christie's pride" and that is what I got. It was... interesting. The seafood dressing was kind of odd and a bit pungent. It was, as I said, interesting. Looking back the waiter maybe hinted to not get that, but I came in here to try it. We rediscovered Christie's after seeing it profiled on Chris Shepard Eat Like a Local (on You Tube). This is now our favorite seafood go-to restaurant. The food is exceptional especially the fresh Texas Gulf seafood. I always get the oysters on the half shell. They prepare these so that the oysters are cut at their abductor muscle and slide easily off the shell. Amazing no other seafood restaurant I know does that. We also like the Gulf shrimp, crab cakes, Greek salad and grilled shrimp, and the Au Gratin potatoes are killer! I can go on and on about this place. I also want to mention Dennie, who waits on us every time. She makes us feel like we are part of their restaurant family (as does Maria Christie!). And she single-handily invented a killer frozen cocktail which is delicious. We just love this place! read more

Living in the Houston area and we had never tried Christie's Seafood before. Lots of free parking available in the back lot. The restaurant is large and has several tables and booths available by the windows which is nice. We were greeted by a nice smiling hostess which showed us to our booth and gave us our menus. The serve a lunch menu M-F till 4pm which is always nice. We stayed with the calamari which is fried and is all calamari with a nice sauce on the side. We also got a bread basket with 2 nice warm rolls and butter. I got the fried catfish plate served with dirty rice which is served with a lunch salad. The catfish was nice and fresh the dirty rice was just ok, it lacked flavor in my opinion. The tartar sauce was too mayo in my opinion. Husband got the fried shrimp lunch plate, he chose 4 fried shrimp with onion rings. The fried shrimp were a bit small and tasted overcooked. The onion rings were big and tasted delicious. I will return as the majority of the food was delicious and the service was great. read more

Honestly, it was not a bad choice at all and made for a nice, relaxed meal. Andre was my server, and he was very professional, pleasant, and attentive without being overbearing. A Houston favorite! It took me 50 years to try it and I don't know why! I was certainly missing out! We've been a few times now. Deani has been our server every time! She's the best! It has a very relaxed atmosphere, not pretentious at all. It's casual dining with the best seafood. A month ago, we had planned to celebrate my mom's birthday at Christie's Seafood & Steak Restaurant, her favorite restaurant. Sadly, we had to cancel because her health declined, and she passed away just four days after her birthday. When I called to ask if they could host a Celebration of Life in her honor, the Christie family and their staff couldn't have been more kind and accommodating. Today's gathering exceeded every expectation. The food was outstanding, the service was flawless, and every detail was handled with care and professionalism. Our party of 42 all agreed it was a beautiful and memorable experience. Thank you to the Christie family and the entire staff for helping us honor my mom in such a meaningful way. I ordered a takeout of one of my favorite dishes here on Saturday afternoon being the 12 Broiled Oysters Meal. This one, the stuffed shrimp and stuffed snapper are my favorites every time. These oysters were so delicious, tender, juicy and full of flavor as always. They're exactly the same every time I eat them from here whether it was this visit, two years ago or back in 1997 with family. Imo, the best shellfish dish I ever had. I could've seriously eaten 50 of them tbh. Every single piece was perfect and the soft toast and dirty rice were great with it. The drawn butter is obviously great tasting stuff. The Remoulade and Tarter Sauces were both so fresh, so tasty and kind of refreshing with the rest. They had to have been homemade, bc those from a bottle or pack almost never taste good imo. The Remoulade was a smidge garlicky and the Tarter a little oniony. The oysters don't even need any dipping sauce. Great, efficient and friendly window service. read more

I saw this long time restaurant mentioned on Chef Chris Sheppard's show "Eat Like a Local" . I had never been. Our lunch did not disappoint! I ordered the fried catfish on a lunch special. It was a great choice. The fried shrimp were also delicious. The only downside for me was the dirty rice. It was not bad by any means, but tasted like it had cumin in it. I personally prefer a more traditional flavor. But do splurge, and split an order of onion rings! Nice dining room with excellent service. I've never been here before. Wow! Incredible atmosphere. All the delicious fish of the Gulf are mounted on the walls. A beautiful painted mural covers one wall and it looks real. It makes you feel like you're in the Greek Isles. Christie's has been in business for 107 years. They must be really good! Amalia was our server. Attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable professionalism. Drinks were perfect. Bread, butter, and salads perfect. Uh oh, I'm starting get full. Fried shrimp, French fries, onion rings, cocktail sauce, and Ouza sauce were perfect. Stuffed shrimp were on a whole new level of awesomeness. Carrot cake on a scale of 1 - 10 was a solid 7. Key lime pie.... 8.5. Also needs to be mentioned: Super clean restaurant (could pass a white glove inspection), beautiful bar, lengthy and impressive wine list, all the liquors you could possibly want, decent beer list (St Arnold's Amber and Elissa for the win), very attentive staff with eye for detail (you don't see that much these days), water glasses were constantly refilled, used plates and silverware promptly removed.... I've heard of Christie's from listening to 104.1 and finally was going to be in the area to give it a try. We went earlier in the evening to try and beat the crowds and were pleased that it still seemed pretty busy. The inside was really nice and definitely felt inviting. After we were seated the waiter came and took our drink orders and brought us some bread. I will say, the bread was amazing. Unfortunately that was the highlight of our meal. Now I will preface this with saying the ingredients they are using as high quality. The shrimp and fish were both fresh and any accompanying sides were high quality ingredients. My issue was the lack of salt or seasoning. Everything needed salt, at a minimum. The gumbo had some good flavor notes but really needed salt. The flounder tasted fresh but only tasted like olive oil and nothing else. In a time where going out to eat seems to be getting more and more expensive, restaurants need to ensure they are sending out their best dishes. I went against my better judgement of ordering a more basic fish dish, after reading so many glowing reviews of "Christie's Pride" I was HUGELY disappointed. I should have paid attention to the waitresse's lack of enthusiasm about my order. It was supposed to have a wine sauce or something but mine was soooo watery. Once I took a bite the opening filled with a watery sauce and the fish was mushy and wet. It really was inedible The side of spinach was disappointing too. It was a huge portion of unseasoned soggy spinach. I still plan to go back and try the fish dishes I first thought about ordering. But Christie's Pride was a disaster read more

The service we received was attentive and friendly. And now for the real start of the show - the food. 98% of what we ordered was highly delicious. The two misses of the night were the Oysters Rockefeller and the fried shrimp. On the other hand, the crawfish bisque, the fried calamari, and the original sandwich were all big hits. Went with family after a family function with the grandparents on a Friday night. We got there late 8:15 and they close at 9. The staff was super welcoming, even though it was towards the end of their night. Service was amazing. I felt like I was at a high-end steakhouse. they had frozen margaritas on the menu and I was really feeling for one even though we were at a seafood place and I'm glad I ordered it. it was a really really good house. Margarita I enjoyed it. I had the fried seafood platter and it hit the spot. They make their dressings in house. Love the bread service with the hot rolls and whipped butter. My son got the BLT Oyster Po Boy it was delicious because I had some and he probably doesn't need to eat for the next 24 hours. The interior is old school but very clean and nice . this place has been here since 1917 so it is old school that's the point. A long time standing restaurant in the Houston area. if I remember the story correctly, this is the third generation now running the restaurant. It got decent parking on the side in the back. The food is delicious. I feel like well price for what you get not spectacular. That's why I'm gonna get them an above average score of four stars five stars that I would say that it's like one of the better restaurants around Houston. I do find the selection to be Good and I like the place I plan on going back. They have a nice conference room that week that we've used as a networking event over the lunch hour the staff are extremely friendly and courteous. The inside is a little dated cause it's been around again for over three generations I think 50 to 70 years or something like that in the Houston area so we could definitely use a nice upgrade and appearance but not old just feeling Ultimately would recommend food was freshly made seafood taste. My wife and I went today and I thought it would be a good place since we watched a local chef's show and he really recommended it. They have been in business for 108 years! It is nice and the staff attentive but that's about it. She had the rainbow trout and I the 14 oz steak. Everything we had was flavorless, from the warm bread to the Caesar salad, the sauté spinach, to my steak. I told our server and he relayed it to the manager who showed real concern about our experience and deleted the steak from our bill and gave us a desert complimentary. The fish was good just not overwhelming. I really wanted to make the place one of our go to places, as we enjoy dining out. Gumbo lacking flavor as well. read more

Jesus Christie himself would have loved this place. It's not really the salt of the earth, more like the salt of the sea. But not the Salton Sea, because that's both Val Kilmer, and creepy. I'm not a huge fan of American style seafood, but if you want a decently priced, popular, cute, and centrally located old fashioned seafood place to eat at, you'll love this place. We liked the service, the food was good (nothing was amazing, nothing was awful), and lots of cute people come to eat here. Very disappointing. Save your money and go elsewhere. Our party of four people dined here, and every single one of us was disappointed. This place may have history, but the food quality is extremely inconsistent and often outright bad. Houston has far too many great seafood restaurants for this to be worth it. Let's start with the gumbo. It should not be on the menu. It tasted like swamp water--no seasoning, no depth, no creole flavor at all. Adding shrimp does not magically make it seafood gumbo. It needs to be completely revamped or removed. 0/10. The oyster stew was honestly disgusting . The fish was dry and poorly prepared. I ordered "gulf snapper" expecting something comparable to red snapper, but it wasn't even close. Management explained it wasn't red snapper, but whatever it was had none of the texture or flavor of quality fish. You can buy better fish at a Houston grocery store. Shrimp dishes were a major letdown: * Famous jumbo fried shrimp: completely tasteless (Red Lobster is better and cheaper) * Stuffed shrimp: mostly gooey bread stuffing with very little crab * Shrimp cocktail: tasted like pre-boiled shrimp from a bag at Kroger * Fried shrimp overall: bland, tasted reheated and frozen The shrimp po' boy was dry, bland, and poorly assembled--no sauce, too much lettuce, no flavor. 0/10. Sides were awful, especially the au gratin potatoes, which were cold and consistently terrible. Multiple people at our table mentioned how bad they were. The rolls tasted microwaved. One person in our group ordered crawfish bisque, which tasted canned--straight Sysco food-service quality. Another ordered fried oysters, which tasted pre-cooked, then battered and fried. Easily some of the worst fried oysters any of us have had. Even the wine tasted like the bottle had been open for days. Service was slow, the menu is shallow, and the prices are not justified by the quality. On a previous visit, the food smelled bad enough that I already suspected it wasn't fresh--and unfortunately, that impression held true. Ambience felt tired and dated -- more stuck in the past than charming. It doesn't add anything positive to the experience and doesn't match the hype. This place might have been good years ago, but it's clearly coasting on reputation now. If Gordon Ramsay walked in, I doubt it would survive. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
