    Mr. Cleburne!

Food is unbelievably tasty and so many choices! The service staff is friendly and accommodating, cheerful and helpful. The cafeteria dining room is very big and the ambience, cozy & relaxing. Plenty of room at lunch time too. We have discovered a fantastic place that has whatever we feel like eating. The desserts, OMG. Heaven on earth! Our son works nearby and his coworkers introduced him to it and now our family are fans too! We've only lived in Houston for 38 years and Cleburne's is celebrating 85 years! Happy Anniversary to Cleburne's. We look forward to spending more time with them, for sure! Thanks, Cleburne's!

Homely and hearty food. Service and atmosphere: The service was outstanding. Everyone was very friendly and super helpful. The staff was offering to carry food to the table. The restaurant is big, clean and well organised. Food and drinks: The food was very tasty and delicious. They offer home made style dishes with great variety of meats, vegetables, salads and desserts. I had turkey. The meat was very succulent and well cooked. I would recommend salad with cheek peas and feta cheese. You can opt for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Pricing: $$ - super worth it!

Oh my goodness ! This place is amazing. It is a next level Piccadilly and great portion sizes. More on expensive side but very worth it. They come to tables offering to go boxes and refills on drinks as well. You go through line and pay for everything. Then you immediately take everything off trays for staff to collect. They have been going for 80+ years and had some signs to suggest they were featured on GMA!

I went to Cleburne Cafeteria with a group of friends who reserved a room for a quick gathering. That was on a Wednesday and the restaurant was about half filled during the dinnertime. I was surprised that I drove by here thousands of times and never knew such wonderful restaurant existed. According to a friend, this restaurant started 1940's. I know that's not his age, but he is more knowledgeable to the history in Houston than me. The portions appear to be huge but it's a perception because the dishes are too small. Everything was overfilled. They look kind of disgusting to me actually. They look like my fat belly spilling over my belt. Ugh. The prices were good, though. I ordered Chicken Dumplings ($10.79) and Kale Salad ($4.25). The bill only came out $16.29 with tax. I love the flavor of the dishes, however, they didn't look appealing as they overfilled everything. I also liked the way they serve drinks. There were water no ice, water with ice and iced tea on the drink counter. I couldn't take a picture because an old hangry man standing behind me like I slowed him down in the line, while there were just us 2 in the line. lol I think I would pay a special visit to come back during lunchtime to check out other dishes. Maybe I'll bring a friend or two.

Having been here a few times years ago the level of inconsistency has me discouraged and kind of over ever returning but recently found myself nearby and hungry I thought what the heck it just opened. Well let me say I don't know if it's new ownership or just now paying attention to detail but my visit this time was a lot different. We got the turkey a salmon and both were very good. Lines move fast the workers very friendly and only gripe was the mashed potatoes as gravy had no flavor an were kind of runny.

Baked chicken, banana pudding, chickpea salad, and an iced tea.

Lovely banana pudding - the best I've had in Texas so far. The wafers and the vanilla pudding paired perfectly, the pudding so SO creamy! We love Cleburne every time we go, and it has become a staple in our family. Baked chicken was cooked perfectly, and the chickpea salad was refreshing and a delicious pairing. The staff behind the counter were so nice and very helpful! It really seemed like a family operated business. Going back to my table I felt like I was a part of the community, the atmosphere was so welcoming.

My second time! I came back because I never stopped thinking about that fried chicken. Its a long drive for me but worth it completely . They have the best fried chicken. Lots of delicious options and everything is fresh! The service is excellent. I didn't need help but a lady insisted on taking my tray to find my family and I a table so I could continue to pay. She insisted and that was a great touch. Always someone coming around with a cart of necessities from refills, to go plates and more! Genius idea for a great experience l. Restaurant is beautiful and they outdoor seating was ideal for a very large family. I didn't even mention the giant salad bar and desserts!

Having been around for a LONG time, Cleburne Cafeteria has the process and recipes down pat! You walk in, step up and grab a tray, try not to be overwhelmed with the options and home-cooked smells, and start ordering. I have to order fried okra and I usually order other side dishes/veggies. Their mashed potatoes are great and you can pick brown or cream gravy. The rolls and cornbread are fresh and hot. Then you slide your tray down to the dessert selection. Then, pick your beverage. They have iced water, water with no ice, iced tea, and a soda fountain. Checkout and pay, then go find a seat. The helpful staff will help you carry your (by now heavy) tray to your table. They have staff available picking up trays, refilling your drinks, providing extra plates or silverware, butter, lemons, whatever you may need! Great service and delicious home-cooked food!!!

    Beef Stroganoff- daily special

First visit on a visit home to Houston. I had never heard of this place until living out of state. This is a really nice Cafeteria. It reminds us of the Wyatt's Cafeteria we had growing up in Pasadena. The building itself is really nice and you enter into a nice spacious lobby with a history timeline of the restaurant on one wall and paintings by one of the longtime owners around the other walls. You begin your journey by choosing whether or not you would like a salad before choosing your entree. Tonight we chose one of the daily specials, Beef Stroganoff ($14.95) which was really tasty. We also chose the Chicken Fried Steak with White Cream Gravy ($13.95). We ordered more sides than we needed so we had lots to take home. We ordered Macaroni & Cheese ($4.25), Squash Casserole ($4.45) , Bowl of Fruit ($4.45), Deviled Eggs ($3.95), Greek Salad($4.25), Bowl of Vegetable Soup ($5.99), slice of Apple Pie ($5.45), Slice of Strawberry Cream Cake ($6.45), dinner roll ($1.15). They had staff members walking around refilling drinks and checking on us throughout our meal. All of the staff members looked professional and polished and were very helpful. This was an excellent experience all around. The restrooms were very clean and fresh too. While we ordered much too much food due to our excitement over how amazing everything looked, smelled and tasted...we had plenty to bring home to eat again over the next couple of days. This is a restaurant that we recommend and will be excited to experience again on our future visits. There is nothing that I would not order again!

You could easily come here for a fancy birthday celebration or just a casual lunch and brunch. I loved that I didn't feel weird having two kids under six with us. There were other families there, and it felt very welcoming without sacrificing that nice restaurant vibe. Everyone in the family really enjoyed what they ordered and the service was great! My oldest daughter had the cheeseburger with french fries and loved it, especially the bread which was nicely toasted and gave it a great crunch. My youngest had the chicken tenders with mac and cheese, and my husband really liked his stuffed poblano pepper dish. I ordered the country-fried pork with greens and mashed potatoes, and everything on my plate was delicious. The mashed potatoes were great, and the greens leaned more sweet than savory, which I really enjoyed. The fried green tomatoes were another major standout with the sauce they served. I honestly wish we had a spot like this back home! My only small critique is to skip the sweet tea. I haven't found a single place in Houston where the sweet tea was actually sweet enough for my taste, but overall, this was a fantastic spot with great service that I'd highly recommend.

Good evening, I am a…read moreHoustonian born and raised, and I have been to Grace's more times than I can count. In the past, I have been a huge advocate for this establishment and have recommended Grace's to countless family members and friends. Unfortunately, after my experience today, I can no longer say that I would confidently recommend this restaurant. My aunt came into town to celebrate her birthday and wanted to go somewhere nice for brunch, so naturally, I recommended Grace's. I made reservations for 12:30 PM, and our family traveled approximately an hour from the Cypress/Katy area to celebrate Labor Day together. Unfortunately, the experience started off poorly and continued throughout our entire meal. After being seated, our waiter came over, introduced himself, and then we did not hear from him again for approximately 20-25 minutes. During that time, he did not take our drink order, ask if we wanted appetizers, or even bring the complimentary cornbread. We were literally looking around trying to find our waiter. Thankfully, we were able to get the attention of a manager, who took our drink order and brought our drinks himself. That alone should have been an indication that something was wrong with the service. Later, my mom and aunt ordered another round of drinks. My mom received hers, but my aunt's drink never came. Our food arrived, we ate, finished our meal, and her drink still had not been brought to the table. At that point, my aunt told the waiter to cancel the drink and asked for the check because we were ready to leave. When we received the check, we noticed that a gratuity/service charge had been added. Since there were only three adults and two children in our party, we decided to speak with the manager--the same manager who had to take our drink order earlier. We explained our experience and the issues we had with the service. What was most disappointing was that instead of apologizing, acknowledging our concerns, or expressing any genuine concern about the experience we had just described, the manager made excuses. That response was extremely disappointing. I understand that restaurants can have busy days, mistakes happen, and service issues can occur. What made this experience particularly frustrating was the lack of accountability and customer service after we brought the issues to management's attention. I have been to Grace's numerous times, so I know what the experience is normally like. This was not an extremely busy day compared to what I am accustomed to seeing at Grace's, which made the poor service even more surprising. We drove an hour to celebrate my aunt's birthday and expected to have a great Labor Day brunch at a restaurant that I had personally recommended to my family. Instead, we left extremely disappointed. This was not the Grace's experience I have known in the past, and unfortunately, based on today's experience, I will think twice before recommending or returning to this location.

I opted for the high top right by the kitchen, and honestly, great choice -- it smelled amazing. Most people prefer not to sit by the kitchen with all the foot traffic but I didn't mind it at all. Nobie's is a house that's been transformed into a restaurant. One of the bartenders told me it's a 104-year-old house, and the whole place has very "house party" vibes in the best way. The music is LOUD. And it gets progressively louder as the night goes on, so if that's not your vibe, keep that in mind. But I was very into it. Lil Flip was playing when I walked in and it took me back to high school house parties. On shuffle were more throwbacks and classics: Ludacris and "Notorious Thugs" by Biggie. The chairs, however, were not my favorite. They're low-backed and kind of cage-like, with only a thin cushion, so they aren't exactly the most comfortable for a long meal. Started with a cocktail: the Remolacha del Corazón -- beet tequila, mezcal, watermelon (house-made syrup), lime and a tajín rim. You can hardly taste the mezcal, which I'm assuming is the point. I like mezcal so it would have been nice to taste it but the beet tequila is definitely the star, with the watermelon and lime adding a nice balance. Appetizer: Don't Worry, Brie Happy ($18). Brie, local honey, smoked grapes, toast. There was basically no local honey on my plate, but those smoked grapes?! They're topped with flaky salt while they're still hot and OMG!! The combination of warm, smoky, sweet and salty was fantastic. My only complaint was the amount of toast. There was a little too much toast for the amount of brie and grapes, so the ratios felt slightly off. Main course: Jamón With Your Bad Self ($45). Ibérico secreto pork steak, tonnato, shaved Brussels sprouts, salsa verde and almonds. I'm particular about pork, so I was taking a bit of a chance here, but this dish sounded too interesting to pass up. The pork steak was cooked perfectly and had some wonderfully crispy pieces around the edges. The tonnato underneath the pork was really good. It almost reminded me of a Caesar dressing and added this rich, savory element to the dish. The shaved Brussels sprouts were great, too, especially with the almonds and Parmesan. Everything worked really well together. Dessert: Olive Oil Cake. A house staple, and for good reason. A lovely way to end the meal. Overall, Nobie's has a really fun, unpretentious energy. Between the old-house setting, loud music and memorable dishes, it feels like somewhere you go to hang out as much as you go to eat. Just know what you're getting into with the volume and the seating -- this is not exactly a quiet, polished fine-dining experience, and that's kind of the charm.

The team behind the popular restaurant Nobie's opened up this tiki inspired restaurant. Tiki bars happen to be one of my favorite varieties of bars so I was more than excited to finally check it off my list. I had recently seen them on the Food Network as well. They share a lot with another popular dining spot so parking can be a little difficult in their lot. You can find street parking or park across the street in an overflow lot. Customer service was great from start to finish. We had just ate next door and our intentions were to come in here just for cocktails, but I couldn't leave without trying some of the popular items. I wanted the most tropical drink I could find on the menu so I started off with the Blue Hawaiian. I saw fire on the description so my extra self needed to have it. I'm a big rum guy so this drink was right up my alley and very boozy with two types of rum. It was very coconut forward with pineapple being the secondary flavor. One was enough for me to feel just right. Since we had just ate, we decided to share the World Famous Cheeseburger. This was a great burger. I don't know if they were going for the smash effect, but it had smash burger characteristics. It had all my favorite things that are musts on a burger like American cheese and red onions. It also had a very nice chili aioli that added great flavor to the burger. I came on another stop for a drink visit shortly after and tried the pork dumplings and popcorn chicken. These were also very good. If I lived in the area, this place would easily be a place I would frequent often. I will most definitely be back!

They have an outdoor eating area, a bar area, and seating in the very back. It's very spacious, comfortable, and intimate. The theme of the restaurant is seen all over from the moment you enter, to the music, the menu and the restroom. They paid close attention to detail with decorating. We had an amazing server, delicious drinks (a must try), and ok food. We ordered four drinks the painkilla, vamos à la playa, captains grog, and the Hemingway daiquiri. All were great drinks and we loved how they give you flavor characteristics of the drinks on the menu. The appetizers that we ordered were the sweet and sour cauliflower and the pork dumplings, which is why I gave this place four stars. The presentation of both appetizers were excellent. However, the pork dumplings were disappointing. They came with only six dumplings for $17, were served cold, and are very bland. In my opinion, they weren't worth the price. On the other hand, the sweet and sour cauliflower was our favorite and is definitely a must-try.

Stopped by George's Bistro for Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW), and had a lovely little meal…read more I had been to this spot only once before (not during HRW). The HRW menu doesn't go too off-menu, which is nice for those who want to try a few things and know they can return to get that same dish. This particular HWR was a three course menu with choices for each. You could add on anything like wine, cocktails, etc as well (we had both) The service was good. We didn't have an overly chatty server, in fact I don't even remember interactions with the server, but I remember the food came out quickly, hot, and everything was correct (for a 4-top of varying three course meals) The meals were delicious. We all order a variety of things and were able to share The ambiance is cozy, modern, and still elegant. I will say it was August so it's hot outside in Texas, Georges has a beautiful but gigantic pizza oven in the back center of the visible kitchen. We were all warmer than we wanted to be, and were definitely sweating by the end of the meal. There's a covered patio with seating for the cooler days/nights. There is quite a bit of parking, but it's shared strip mall style parking Some tips: If you want a nightcap after dinner you can mosey (literally walk) next door to Marquis II. It's an almost five far feel with darts, billiards, and a fully stocked bar Don't forget to look at the HRW website in August to find menus categorized by cuisine style to see what fun and delicious meals you might want to enjoy. Remember, it's for a good cause and it's a great way to try local eats Cheers!!

George’s Bistro & Bar - Bucatini. Nice chew and flavor but some in our party would have liked it cooked just a tad longer.
