Baked chicken, banana pudding, chickpea salad, and an iced tea.

Lovely banana pudding - the best I've had in Texas so far. The wafers and the vanilla pudding paired perfectly, the pudding so SO creamy! We love Cleburne every time we go, and it has become a staple in our family. Baked chicken was cooked perfectly, and the chickpea salad was refreshing and a delicious pairing. The staff behind the counter were so nice and very helpful! It really seemed like a family operated business. Going back to my table I felt like I was a part of the community, the atmosphere was so welcoming.

Oh my goodness ! This place is amazing. It is a next level Piccadilly and great portion sizes. More on expensive side but very worth it. They come to tables offering to go boxes and refills on drinks as well. You go through line and pay for everything. Then you immediately take everything off trays for staff to collect. They have been going for 80+ years and had some signs to suggest they were featured on GMA!

Homely and hearty food. Service and atmosphere: The service was outstanding. Everyone was very friendly and super helpful. The staff was offering to carry food to the table. The restaurant is big, clean and well organised. Food and drinks: The food was very tasty and delicious. They offer home made style dishes with great variety of meats, vegetables, salads and desserts. I had turkey. The meat was very succulent and well cooked. I would recommend salad with cheek peas and feta cheese. You can opt for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Pricing: $$ - super worth it!

Having been here a few times years ago the level of inconsistency has me discouraged and kind of over ever returning but recently found myself nearby and hungry I thought what the heck it just opened. Well let me say I don't know if it's new ownership or just now paying attention to detail but my visit this time was a lot different. We got the turkey a salmon and both were very good. Lines move fast the workers very friendly and only gripe was the mashed potatoes as gravy had no flavor an were kind of runny.

My friend's green beans looked like they didn't cut the beans.

I went to Cleburne Cafeteria with a group of friends who reserved a room for a quick gathering. That was on a Wednesday and the restaurant was about half filled during the dinnertime. I was surprised that I drove by here thousands of times and never knew such wonderful restaurant existed. According to a friend, this restaurant started 1940's. I know that's not his age, but he is more knowledgeable to the history in Houston than me. The portions appear to be huge but it's a perception because the dishes are too small. Everything was overfilled. They look kind of disgusting to me actually. They look like my fat belly spilling over my belt. Ugh. The prices were good, though. I ordered Chicken Dumplings ($10.79) and Kale Salad ($4.25). The bill only came out $16.29 with tax. I love the flavor of the dishes, however, they didn't look appealing as they overfilled everything. I also liked the way they serve drinks. There were water no ice, water with ice and iced tea on the drink counter. I couldn't take a picture because an old hangry man standing behind me like I slowed him down in the line, while there were just us 2 in the line. lol I think I would pay a special visit to come back during lunchtime to check out other dishes. Maybe I'll bring a friend or two.

My second time! I came back because I never stopped thinking about that fried chicken. Its a long drive for me but worth it completely . They have the best fried chicken. Lots of delicious options and everything is fresh! The service is excellent. I didn't need help but a lady insisted on taking my tray to find my family and I a table so I could continue to pay. She insisted and that was a great touch. Always someone coming around with a cart of necessities from refills, to go plates and more! Genius idea for a great experience l. Restaurant is beautiful and they outdoor seating was ideal for a very large family. I didn't even mention the giant salad bar and desserts!

Having been around for a LONG time, Cleburne Cafeteria has the process and recipes down pat! You walk in, step up and grab a tray, try not to be overwhelmed with the options and home-cooked smells, and start ordering. I have to order fried okra and I usually order other side dishes/veggies. Their mashed potatoes are great and you can pick brown or cream gravy. The rolls and cornbread are fresh and hot. Then you slide your tray down to the dessert selection. Then, pick your beverage. They have iced water, water with no ice, iced tea, and a soda fountain. Checkout and pay, then go find a seat. The helpful staff will help you carry your (by now heavy) tray to your table. They have staff available picking up trays, refilling your drinks, providing extra plates or silverware, butter, lemons, whatever you may need! Great service and delicious home-cooked food!!!

Pitiful portion of green beans for $5.

The portions and prices are a travesty. $21 for a 6 inch plank of cod?? I'd rather buy an 18 inch long plank of salmon for that price at Costco and cook it myself. $5 for a small plate of green beans?? GTFOH. I implore everybody to go to Luby's instead, where the value and the taste of their food is better. Cleburne's honestly has the worst Chicken Fried Steak I've ever had in Houston. I swear, whoever does the cooking here has long COVID cause there's like no flavor in ANYTHING here.

    Beef Stroganoff- daily special

First visit on a visit home to Houston. I had never heard of this place until living out of state. This is a really nice Cafeteria. It reminds us of the Wyatt's Cafeteria we had growing up in Pasadena. The building itself is really nice and you enter into a nice spacious lobby with a history timeline of the restaurant on one wall and paintings by one of the longtime owners around the other walls. You begin your journey by choosing whether or not you would like a salad before choosing your entree. Tonight we chose one of the daily specials, Beef Stroganoff ($14.95) which was really tasty. We also chose the Chicken Fried Steak with White Cream Gravy ($13.95). We ordered more sides than we needed so we had lots to take home. We ordered Macaroni & Cheese ($4.25), Squash Casserole ($4.45) , Bowl of Fruit ($4.45), Deviled Eggs ($3.95), Greek Salad($4.25), Bowl of Vegetable Soup ($5.99), slice of Apple Pie ($5.45), Slice of Strawberry Cream Cake ($6.45), dinner roll ($1.15). They had staff members walking around refilling drinks and checking on us throughout our meal. All of the staff members looked professional and polished and were very helpful. This was an excellent experience all around. The restrooms were very clean and fresh too. While we ordered much too much food due to our excitement over how amazing everything looked, smelled and tasted...we had plenty to bring home to eat again over the next couple of days. This is a restaurant that we recommend and will be excited to experience again on our future visits. There is nothing that I would not order again!

12/2/2025: I like cafeterias. I was raised on them with my grandparents, so they hold a special memory for my taste buds. Cleburne definitely has great service and large portions, but I wasn't crazy about the food. My fish, casserole, mushrooms, and tea were $25.89! Yes, the portions are large, but they were so large I could not finish them and I had plans after, so I could not take my leftovers. I wouldn't have anyway because they would heat well. So, for my money side, I was not impressed. The fish is not even close to being as good as Luby's, the casserole was made with fresh green beans, so it was a little firm, and the mushroom were a little lacking in flavor. They don't have a lot of options like other cafeterias. It was very basic on the sides options. They have okra, but it is not fried okra. I wasn't impressed, so I am giving them 3 stars.

    Fried Chicken & Mashed Potatoes

I see this place pop up randomly on my feed from time to time. I am a fan of Luby's cafeteria fried chicken, so is this place was somewhat similar? I didn't know what to expect. While I did see the Yelp reviews beforehand I chose to dismiss them because Luby's overall doesn't have raving reviews and I love their fried chicken, value, and price. Parking at CC is easy. Walking in the place was clean overall and the line had quite a bit of people for a Sunday night. For a cafeteria style restaurant - I was a bit taken back at the all the ala cart pricing. There were basically no combo style meals. So 1 dish can easily get you to almost $20! The fried chicken wasn't overall good. I think it may have been over cooked. The mashed potatoes were good but pricy for the ala cart side. Now I'm sure I'm not their main demographic - as it looked like people over the age of 60 loved this place. But if I'm comparing this place to Luby's fried chicken, Luby's is better and much better value. Customer service on the other hand was excellent. The line help was great and moving, the table runners were cleaning and refilling waters.

    Chicken and dumplings

Had chicken and dumplings!!! Not as good as my mama's, but some of the best. Got lime jello salad for home. Reminds me of jello salad mama would make. And custard. Perfect

The main highlight was the 5 star service by Eric! He's enough to make me want to go back! I'll definitely ask for him every time! 2nd highlight is that cornbread because whew...bussin. Pair it with the collard greens and that's a five-star combo all day. I was undecided on what to order, so I went with the cajun stuffed chicken exactly as it comes, along with mac & cheese and collard greens. The meal wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. The chicken, I'd probably skip next time, I took most to go and it went bad cause I couldn't do it. Mac wasn't anything to write home about either but again, them greens and cornbread are absolutely getting reordered. My friend ordered the key lime pie and enjoyed it, so that seemed to be another solid choice. But back to the real MVP of the visit which was our server, Eric. He made menu suggestions without being pushy, kept my glass full the entire meal, was kind, patient, and anticipated what we needed before we even had to ask. That level of service is becoming harder to find, and it definitely elevated the experience. Overall, the food landed somewhere in the middle for me, but Eric's service easily pushed this visit to four stars. I'll definitely be back...mainly for that cornbread lol.

She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. I will be back.

Nonno's Pasta - this dish was my least favorite. I found the flavors to be too cheese forward with not enough acid; Jamon With Your Bad Self - while not much to look at, this dish was outstanding. The pork's texture was simply magical, and the flavors well-balanced. On the side, we had the Fingerlingin Good potatoes, and they lived up to their name: pleasantly crispy and bursting with savory goodness. Desserts: the Olive Oil Cake was a dream: incredibly moist and tender with vanilla richness and a kiss of lemon. The Black Bottom Pie was not my favorite. I would the salt to be too much and couldn't eat more than 2 bites because of it. Service: warm, gracious, attentive, and efficient. As for ambiance, this is where the restaurant misses the mark for me. It's in an old house, and when we walked in, that's exactly what I smelled: old house. Still, if you're looking for a unique, creative menu that delivers on flavors, add nobie's to your bingo card.

When you're stuck in town but want to feel like you're in a tropical destination, The Toasted…read moreCoconut is where you need to come. The team behind the popular restaurant Nobie's opened up this tiki inspired restaurant. Tiki bars happen to be one of my favorite varieties of bars so I was more than excited to finally check it off my list. I had recently seen them on the Food Network as well. They share a lot with another popular dining spot so parking can be a little difficult in their lot. You can find street parking or park across the street in an overflow lot. Customer service was great from start to finish. We had just ate next door and our intentions were to come in here just for cocktails, but I couldn't leave without trying some of the popular items. I wanted the most tropical drink I could find on the menu so I started off with the Blue Hawaiian. I saw fire on the description so my extra self needed to have it. I'm a big rum guy so this drink was right up my alley and very boozy with two types of rum. It was very coconut forward with pineapple being the secondary flavor. One was enough for me to feel just right. Since we had just ate, we decided to share the World Famous Cheeseburger. This was a great burger. I don't know if they were going for the smash effect, but it had smash burger characteristics. It had all my favorite things that are musts on a burger like American cheese and red onions. It also had a very nice chili aioli that added great flavor to the burger. I came on another stop for a drink visit shortly after and tried the pork dumplings and popcorn chicken. These were also very good. If I lived in the area, this place would easily be a place I would frequent often. I will most definitely be back!

Cannot say enough good things about this place. Have had lunch here and now dinner. We first…read morevisited in The Woodlands. Such a good experience that we went last night for date night. First, we got there pretty early for our reservation. We sat almost immediately upon check in. Our waiter was in training but did a really good job. Ordered a whiskey sour. Was seated at the bar so I got to watch it be made. The bartender- man that guy never stopped. He was organized and just did his thing. So many pretty drinks were made while I was there watching. The pink one, whatever it was, was really pretty! On to the food. We got two apps, two meals, and two desserts. Husband ordered the Brussels, Steak Frites, and the Devil's Affogato. I got the Bacon covered Dates, the Pizza, and the Sticky Toffee Cake. The Brussels were good - husband liked them more than me. They were good. Had cashews in them. Little spicy. The bacon covered dates. Think this was my favorite bite. Sweet, salty, creamy. Came we three & I had two. The pizza was sweet and salty as well. The crust was so good and fresh. The arugula set it off so well. Def a buy again! The Steak Frites was so good. The chimichurri sauce was perfect. Just the right mount of citrus. Steak was tender and the fries seasoned well. The desserts - don't skip them! The Devils Affogato we had the first time we ate at Sixty Vines. Had to have it again. If you like coffee, chocolate and vanilla ice cream just get it. Restaurant vibe is relaxed and clean. There were several large parties and what looked like a lot of date night guests. Just try it. No regrets!!

This was my second time dining here, and given the overwhelmingly positive reviews, my expectations…read morewere higher than usual. Unfortunately, just like my first visit, they were not fully met. We had reservations for brunch, and our party of six was seated immediately on the beautiful second floor. Service was efficient throughout the meal, with our waiter taking our orders promptly and the food arriving quickly. To start, we ordered the Brussels and the hummus. The Brussels were cooked very well and had an excellent crispy texture, but I felt the kung pao vinaigrette lacked the bold flavor I was expecting. A little more sweetness and acidity would have helped brighten the dish and make it more memorable. The hummus, on the other hand, pleasantly surprised me. Both the red beet hummus and edamame hummus were flavorful and enjoyable. They paired well with the crisp flatbread and even served as a nice accompaniment to some of our less exciting entrées. For my meal, I ordered the marinated artichoke pizza, which unfortunately did not stand out. I had the same issue that I experienced during my previous visit: the crust was simply too thick and chewy. After a few slices, my jaw was genuinely getting tired from all the chewing. The pizza also could have benefited from more bacon and a more generous amount of sauce, as it came across a bit dry overall. The campanelle suffered from a similar problem. While I understand that simplicity was likely the goal, the dish was so understated that it ended up feeling bland. It tasted like a slightly elevated version of buttered pasta with just a hint of white wine. There was nothing particularly wrong with it, but it lacked the depth of flavor needed to make it memorable. On a much more positive note, the carrot cake pancakes were easily the star of the meal. I tend to gravitate toward savory breakfasts, but my sister was eager to try them, and I am so glad she did. These were not your typical pancakes. They were thick, fluffy, and incredibly soft in the center. With toppings like maple butter, maple cream, mascarpone whip, candied walnuts, and cardamom sugar, I expected the dish to be overwhelmingly sweet. Surprisingly, everything was balanced quite well. While I cannot imagine finishing an entire plate by myself, anyone with a sweet tooth would absolutely love them. Overall, this restaurant continues to impress me with its atmosphere, service, and a few standout dishes, but the entrées I have tried have not lived up to the hype. If I were to return, I would happily order the hummus and carrot cake pancakes again, but I would probably skip the pizza and pasta in favor of trying something new.
