I was alright with signing basic paperwork but I didn't want my medical information and photos to be used for data or sharing purposes. Read the fine print everyone. It was very difficult to request even a hard copy to review to bring home with me. I did speak with someone I believe her name was Alexandra? She was very professional and assisted me as best as she could. It didn't change that I couldn't see the doctor when I needed medical assistance. In the past, I have gone for skin screenings here and without being notified or asked- I had a group of five students come into the room when I was laying on a table. I was super specific about coming in for a blood vessel that needed laser treatment and the area that it was being treated on. They quoted me $350 for the appointment and then $350 for each last appointment and then after I gave my card to pay they sent a shady patient coordinator to give me a quote and said it would be $950 a session. Very, very unethical. I will be reporting this office. They also refused to give me my medical records from the apt.

I felt that my concerns were dismissed during what felt like a rushed appointment. Due to the dismissed concerns, I developed painful complications requiring corrective action. In what I believe to be an attempt to dilute my concerns about the result, Cossman made multiple comments about how he found me, a young patient, to be physical attractive. These comments made me feel uncomfortable, and that my provider dismissed my valid concerns as a patient. Upon making my account of our interactions available on review platforms and to medical providers, Cossman responded by filing a lawsuit against me. I believe patients have the right to know as it directly impacts who they decide would be the best fit for their care -- I wish I did more research before selecting this practice as I saw past reviews stating that other patients felt dismissed just like I did. When I called the office to request my medical records, they put me on hold for over 30 minutes, and said multiple times that they would not send me my records, which is required by HIPAA -- patients have the right to request and receive their medical records. When I pointed this out to them, they disconnected the call. I do not recommend Upper West Side Dermatology or Jack Cossman and advise all potential patients to research their potential new providers in detail before making a selection to avoid these types of issues.

My primary physician was concerned about a dark scaly patch on one side of my nose and thought I should have it checked out. I wish I had taken a before photo, as it was quite unsightly, and growing! Just a few minutes with Dr. Herman (who's daughter also works in the practice) and he suggested a prescription topical ointment before going the surgery route. Just 2 weeks of bedtime application, and the patch hardened, fell off, nose healed and feels as good as new. I only have the AFTER photo to share here, but as you can imagine, I'm thrilled. To summarize, Garland Lee, PA, has been treating my blemish over about a month and I can't say enough praise but to write here. The right treatment, superb communication, great office, staff, scheduling, billing, everything has worked out just right. Their honesty, clarity, being clear about billing, and overall thoughtful make this practice a high recommend. To be fair, minor downsides are waiting 10-20mins/visit (they're very busy, get there on time or, better, 15m ahead of time especially on the 1st visit to process the intake paperwork which recurs each time until insurance is successfully billed), not always getting the doctor, not just Dr. Sherry Shieh who's on long term medical leave her many fellow doctors make for confident treatment and knowledge. I know dermatology is either optional or deferrable, but not only did my situation show how preventive care not just emergency treatment can save pain, emotions, time, and money, but the professional standards of the doctors here have made me respect and follow their dermatological medical advice.
