I love this restaurant for so many reasons, the least of which is their delicious and eclectic food. I also love them for their welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and ability to navigate around COVID to provide safe dining. But mostly I love them because they stand up for what is right. They support equality for all residents and patrons, and refuse service to racists. Dont let any negative reviews on this list fool you. Had supper with my family on 8/3 around 5:45. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Menu is simple yet a variety to choose from. Fairly priced for the potions you get. I had the Chicken Po-Boy, very tasty with different flavor profiles, however the only thing I would change would be to cut the chicken into strips rather than leaving the large breast whole. We checked out Red Cloud for the first time last night as it is right in our neighborhood. The atmosphere is fun; they offer indoor/outdoor seating options, and one wall is an open garage door to make you feel like you're outside. Their outdoor seating is pet friendly, which is nice. The beer selection is decent, and they have a small food menu. When we arrived, no one really directed us on how to order or if we needed to seat ourselves. However, after we asked the bar for service, on the way outside to grab a table, we noticed they had cards on tables inside directing you to the bar for service. They were small and not easy to spot, so it would have been nice if any of the staff that saw us standing around for awhile had greeted us instead of just staring at us and walking by. The food was good; we had artichoke and spinach dip. When we went to close our tab, the bartender asked for my name, then served about five or six people, saw me standing there waiting and then remembered I needed to close my tab. He printed the charge receipt, but never gave me my card back, so I had to ask another server to get me my debit card. That was about the only negative thing we ran into, and it wasn't a big deal. I don't write many reviews but I'm making an exception for Cloud Red. The food is excellent, adventurous and a welcome departure from the typical menu. The cocktails are equally excellent and generous. Most of all, though, the staff is wonderfully kind and considerate, which makes for a great experience. I'm glad they've found a model that works during COVID to stay open and continue serving a very loyal set of customers. read more

I don't know why it took me so long to check out Cloud Red but I'm glad I finally did! We visited for dinner with a group of three on a Saturday night this spring. It definitely takes a minute to figure out the flow of the place, even though we knew the deal (order at the bar). They have the food menu posted on the wall which I would encourage them to reconsider, during the busy dinner crowd it was hard to narrow in on deciding an option without a great place to stand. The menu has some fun options, plenty of vegetarian options, and fried chicken! Speaking of, I ordered the Fried Chicken Bahn Mi which was delicious and gigantic, it was two solid meals and the sauce was very tasty with a little kick. I also got the Pimm's Cup cocktail which is an old favorite of mine but I hadn't had it in a while. They have a good beer selection as well. It was busy but we found a place to sit, first at the bar and then at a table near the garage door, I bet that is nice when it is open in the summer. I was pleasantly surprised that a server came by half way through our meal to ask if we wanted to order drinks so we didn't have to go back to the bar in the middle of our meal. I liked the vibe and that they approach the restaurant set-up a little differently. Will definitely be back and soon, and based on Yelp pictures the open faced falafel will probably be my next order! read more

I wish I could give Cloud Red more than 5 stars. The fam and I recently moved from the east side of Milwaukee (on Commerce St.) to Whitefish Bay (near Bayshore). While we love the new community, one thing we have struggled with is the lack of strong dining/drinking establishments in WFB. Simply put, there are hardly any. Thankfully, we've discovered Cloud Red in Shorewood, a short drive from our place. Boasting a great beer selection and many creative, delicious, and potent cocktails, Cloud Red would do just fine as a standalone bar; however, the food is out of this word, the bartenders, servers, and staff are absolutely wonderful, and the ambiance/vibe is extremely chill. In Milwaukee it would easily compete with some of the city's best bars/restaurants - in the North Shore area it's an essential staple and arguably the best spot. Here's the quick stitch and a few tips: - Literally, every food item served is next-level delicious. Buffalo Cauliflower and/or Brussel Sprouts are must-orders, great for a single dish or to share. They also make a mean burger and solid tacos (check out Taco Tuesday for a special). - A great place to share items. Unless we're crazy hungry, my wife and I will usually have leftovers with 2 items ordered. - Get there early. Any time after 5:30 until at least 7:00 and you can expect it to be busy. It's seat-yourself and can get a little cut-throat, so be flexible and patient - it's always worth the wait. - Wanna get weird? Drink 2-3 margaritas and buckle up...into your Lyft/Uber. Overall, Cloud Red is a gem. It's a wonderful place for some eats and/or drinks, good for an intimate date or a gathering of many. There's no place to sit or a list if you're physically disabled and waiting an hour for a table.

Solid choice, we headed in with a couple friends for apps, drinks, and some games. The appetizers that we had were pretty good and excellent to see that their gluten free menu has some solid choices that taste great! They have a cool board up front that allows you to prepay for a friends drink if they happen to not be with you, great community idea. They also happened to have a bowl of oranges and sign to help yourself and enjoy the new year. I will say that it would be helpful to note they do not have a hostess and if busy, will not really tell you to wait for a table or if there are free tables. This doesn't help on a busy night when people are awkwardly wandering around and milling about for a table. "are you waiting for a table, did you just get here? are you third in line for a table, fourth, eighth?" Organization on that front end could help. People get ruthless/clueless about any queuing for tables. read more

So I told my significant other (who's vegetarian) get in the car I'm treating you to dinner today. As we were heading to Cloud Red my significant other said "This place better be worth it because Milwaukee does not have many good Vegan/Vegetarian restaurants". As I gave him the side eye I assured him they have great reviews and we must give them a try. We had the Po Boy Sandwich with Brussels sprouts and it was very filling and seasoned well. This sandwich had such great flavor and the Brussels sprouts was a great compliment. This place is very laid back and causally romantic. I like the concept of the menu all the wall. Once you decide what to eat you can then seat yourself and order at the bar. They also have a self serve area where you can get water and silverware. Cloud Red had me on Cloud nine. We enjoyed it so much we decided to go back the next day. read more

first, i think this place gets 5 stars for the food. that is the only reason we go back and put up with the rest of it...(mostly the rude hipster staff) they do not offer high chairs - when we asked about one, we were met with an almost disgusted look and a curt no by the always-rude staff (see below) the open free-for-all seating tries to give off a hip vibe but it just ends up confusing and causing people to hover around tables watching people eat. you also end up approaching people as they are finishing trying to awkwardly make eye contact so you can get their table. no takeout...you have to order at the bar and pack up your own food. I get it if they don't want to take phone orders or a big takeout order if I didn't eat there BUT we just ate dinner (with drinks) and I wanted to order an extra sandwich for our babysitter but I was told that I would have to pack it up myself. the staff is always so rude. not in a actively mean way but in a way that they think they are too cool for their customers. it is such a shame that this place is not more friendly to families- the food is exceptional but that can only take you so far. we would frequent this place a lot more but apparently they have enough business. read more

Warning: This is not necessarily what you think it is. Don't worry, the food is good, you'll be fine. What's strange is the concept. It's a hybrid of sorts; The menu is on the wall, right next to the service door where all the servers are bringing food out with haste. You're standing directly in the traffic pattern. Doesn't make sense to me at all. You pick what you want from the menu and then have to try to but in to the bar to place your entire order while leaning over someone's shoulder while they sit there. Awkward and puts a lot of stress on the bartenders. They use a number system like Noodles & CO. but operate like a bar/grill. Not quiiite there yet... The other thing that isn't necessarily a negative is that there is no indication of portion size on the menu and there are some items that appear to be of the "appetizer" family but are huge. The Spring Roll (while it is singular and that should have been a clue) is the size of a burrito. Huge. The Po Boy Sandwich was AMAZING, but they could have served one half of the sandwhich for the price, $12. I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with these portions. We ordered three items and are still eating leftovers 2 days later. A lot. Of. Food. We ordered a carafe of Margs (Margarita Monday, why not) for $20, and again, shame on me I guess for not assuming that we would receive a large wine carafe FULL of strong-ass margs, no ice. This place is fantastic! We had my wife's birthday party here, as we wanted a casual location where people could come and go as they wanted and still have food and drinks. I can't imagine a better fit for that. They were gracious, attentive and accommodating. The food was excellent as were the drinks and beer offerings. It seems that one of the prior reviewers totally misunderstood the point of this establishment. It is more a pub than a restaurant. They do not have table service. You order and pay at the bar. We ordered curbside pickup from here a couple days ago and it was just absolutely delicious! The process for ordering is easy and straightforward- you place your order online and pick an available time slot to pick up your food. Drive over around your pickup time, park, and they text you when you order is ready and you can just walk up and grab it. Easy peasy! We ordered the 1/2 pound burger, the fried chicken banh mi, and the buffalo cauliflower. Literally everything tasted amazing! The portions were really huge too. I love it here but no changing table in the restroom? The last time I was there my child was one of 4 in the whole place and all the parents had their kids on their laps while they ate because there's no high chairs available either. Newer place amongst the North Shore staples. Just opened a new patio in the back that is cool. Good cheese curds and burgers along with nachos and several other items. Always have good beer and even kombucha on tap. One of if not the best restaurant in the North Shore. The only obnoxious thing is that it's just first come, first served. When it's slow not a problem, but when busy you have to hawk tables and try to grab one before the next guy jumps on it, not enjoyable and is a deterrent on a busy Friday or Saturday night. Having a host or bartender be the pseudo host would be an improvement. read more

I really like Cloud Red's approach. I love the combination of wide beer selection with rotating quality bar fare. The couple times I've been here, the food or drink have not been disappointing. The only downside to me is it's a little expensive. I don't think I'd return for dinner, but I'd definitely return for a drink and snack. Not that the food isn't delicious, it's just a little high for the quantity. $9 for just a sandwich and no side or $6 for one (although heaping) taco feels a little steep. The last time I visited, there were kids running around (and outside the building!) with no supervision. That's not at all Cloud Red's fault, but please be courteous of other patrons. Don't go out with friends, then leave your children unsupervised and running around while you socialize. read more

Bummer! Walked in to have my birthday dinner with my husband and little daughter. Even though the place wasn't overly crowded @ 5:30pm on a Monday the tables were either too big or three seats facing a wall. We opted to sit on the corner of a big table thinking we'd be done in less than an hour. There is only ordering at the bar, no table service. While trying to order drinks to begin my birthday celebration, we were told the table we were at was reserved for people of 16. I told her we couldn't really find a comfortable table for three. She said, sorry. I said well I guess we will just leave. She said, OK. Why would she not have helped us find a place to eat? She'd rather have us leave? End of story. Totally weird. A smart addition to Shorewood. A popular high end bar with a nice selection of beers. It can get crowded in there. In the summer opening a large garage door and more seating on the sidewalk helps. The food is better than you'd think and reasonable. Recommend the shrimp tacos, steak sandwich and steak salad and the artichokes as an appetizer are a must. As a new bourbon drinker I also appreciate they have Wisconsin J Henry. It can take new folks a bit to understand you have to order at the busy bar and get your own water, silverware and take home boxes. read more

I really like this place. The food is great, the atmosphere is cool, the drink selection is very good, and the margaritas are exceptional (and strong). I wish they did take out, but they are pretty pretentious. The place is also too small for the amount of business they are doing. I was an early adopter, and came frequently for their tacos. However after a few months in business, the place was constantly packed. This wouldn't be a problem, but the place is frequented by terrible people. The Shorewood folks are rude, rich, stupid, and oblivious. They have ruined this restaurant and the whole dining experience here. read more

Now the catch: The noise level is unbearable. Wanted to make a tapestry for every wall even though I know that level of warmth would cut the industrial vibe. Better to sit outside or as near to the outside as possible. The further back, the louder it is. Can't talk to tablemates, can't hear them either. That might be what the board games are for. Fabric, acoustic tiles, something. Maybe my dumb luck that the "restaurant cackler" always sits by me, but they need to consider options to address this. It really is a drawback. read more
