I finally ordered from Cloverleaf Restaurant a few weeks ago, and I was not disappointed! After reading an article about the Top 101 Best Places in America, and reading that this location made the list, I knew I had to try! I ordered a Large Square Pizza with Pepperoni and Bacon, and an order of the Cauliflower Bites. The pizza was delicious! I could've done without the bacon, but that was my friends request, and we both agreed we could've just been fine with a regular pepperoni pizza. So that's something that I will keep in mind for the next time. But the cheese and the crust was delicious! The Cauliflower Bites were ok, I wasn't too happy about the breading, but overall it ok. The spot was on our list to try for experiencing Detroit style Pizza's. I Called in the order, that was picked up without an issue. The pizza was delicious! If you're a fan of red sauce, it is a little sweet and very tomato robust. My Ry was in favor the barbecue chicken pizza it was not a fan of the tomato sauce. His advice is "if you are a tomato sauce guy get a red sauce pizza. If not, get the BBQ chicken one". We also ordered a large antipasto salad which was fresh and left plenty of leftovers. If you have not been to Cloverleaf, stop in and get great food. The pizza is Detroit style. Thick chewy crunchy crust. Delicious flavorful ingredients topped with yummy tomato sauce. Appetizers are also a hit. Coconut shrimp, and K-fries. French fries topped with tasty Parmesan and Garlic topping. Top it off with their wonderful cheesecake. I came here for lunch with coworkers for a going away/awards lunch. This restaurant was chosen because of the pizza buffet. There is tons of seating in the restaurant and you can notice the restaurant from the road. The reason for the downgrade in stars is because while Cloverleaf has a gluten free pizza and garlic bread, neither of which make it to the buffet. While I understand this because not a lot of people are gluten free, it is quite frustrating to be gluten free. I could either eat just salad or order a pizza. I ordered a pizza. It took 26 minutes to come which was 6 minutes longer then I was quoted. My coworkers were all able top get up and down at ease to get items from the buffet. I had to rush to eat my pizza once it arrived because of the amount of time it took. Cloverleaf pizza is amazing just not when you are trying to eat it for lunch. Visited yesterday with my husband. The wait was a little long, although the waitress warned us of this early on. She said a large wedding party was in the restaurant, and we could see another large group was also present. While waiting I noticed the station we sat near. Waitstaff brought a constant stream of dirty dishes to this station which was right behind our booth. Seeing dirty dishes wasn't pleasant. But noting the staff go directly from handling dirty dishes to picking up clean dishes. Constantly handling both without any handwashing. The proximity of dirty dishes and glasses to clean dishes, napkins and to go boxes didnt seem right. This parade of dirty dishes and waitstaff touching dirty and clean items went on and on and on and finally we got our pizza. We ordered a large Supreme. It wasn't bad. One other thing I noticed was thick fuzzy dust along the chair rails. Right along the wall just inches from our booth and the station. I've included a photo below. read more

First time checking out this place. Their fried ravioli is homemade and delicious! We tried both the cheese and meat. I preferred the meat and my girlfriend the cheese. I would get either again. My girlfriend, who ranks Buddy's Pizza as number one in her book, said this place would give Buddy's a run for their money. Probably the biggest compliment she's ever given to another pizza place! Cloverleaf is truly a staple in the City of Eastpointe! We eat here pretty often. Food is always good! Pizza is great, but they have many other menu options that are good. The antipasto salad they serve is great and really sets itself apart from some salads you get at other places. The battered mushrooms appetizer are huge mushrooms battered and cooked to a nice crispy outside. The pub pickled appetizer are one of my favorite because they are fried spears. Beers are always cold! They have a buffet option that is great for family get together a or birthday dinners. Service is always fantastic! Fast and friendly. I love Cloverleaf! A Detroit pizza staple. I put it in a category with Buddy's, Louie's and Shields. I would say it's my top two of all time pizza, with Buddy's being the counter. Sweet sauce on top, square, crisp crust, flowing cheese- not stringy or chewy.... mamma Mia! The green pepper and onion are sliced very thin. Very thin! That, to me, gives it wonderful flavor without overwhelming the pie or giving too much crunch being undercooked as well as keeping the moisture from the veggies to a minimum. The location at 9 1/2 on Gratiot is my favorite. There is a daily lunch buffet. Worth checking out. Reasonable at about $8 or $9, depending on weekday or weekend. So I used to be a huge huge fan of Cloverleaf, and I probably ate there at least once a week when they had their Buffet. Even after the Buffay, I would still go there. A few weeks ago, I was riding in the Gratiot Cruise & I stopped in for some of their famous square Pizza and Italian Sausage. As sponsors of the Eastpointe Cruise, they actively support the annual rolling car show as it passes right out in front of their business. As such, they had the aforementioned pizza and Italian sausage available, as well as Faygo soft drinks. Also available were the event T-shirts and hats. The founder of Cloverleaf Pizza is purported to be the inventor of Detroit style deep dish pizza. The pizza is something they've been doing well for decades: buttery, thick, with just the right chew to it, and a small amount of sauce. I've been coming to Cloverleaf for decades, and I always have fond memories. But, now I'm starting to realize that the memories were always of the pizza. If that's all they sold, you'd be reading a 4-star review. The pizza is so good that it has stood the test of time, but the rest of the menu is stuck in the 1970s. The salad is just basic mixed greens with tomato chunks. The Italian dressing tastes like a mediocre store brand, like Wishbone. The roasted potatoes are decent, but overly buttery. The pasta tastes like it came from a box, but the sauces are decent. At most Italian restaurants, I end up eating too much of the bread that they serve before the meal. That's not a problem here. For some reason, they coat the pizza bread with sugar. My sister-in-law tried asking for bread without sugar, and it had to be made by special order. It just tastes strange, but I guess some people like it because they keep serving it. As far things that are supposed to be sweet, the carrot cake is very good. But, the puddings taste off, and seem watery. I'm sure I'll be back to the Cloverleaf again, but next time I'm keeping it to just the thing that they do so well: pizza. read more

Not bad but a bit understaffed so they are closed at 8 pm everyday and closed Monday. Staff is friendly and definitely doing well. They did have one craft beer special for me and a bunch of specials on the " light beers " not for me. But definitely open and lots of room. Just feels good to get out of the house. read more

Wayyyy too much to put in text. Smdfh....... basically... Dear Owners, You absolutely, DESPERATELY, NEED new management. And you need a new head waitstaff ASAP. To keep it simple, your staff needs to be revamped under new floor management. It's perfectly clear, especially to those seasoned in the food industry, that they are comfortable, simple, and not individuals trying to excel, rather seem to only be there for a paycheck. But additionally, you also have to PROVIDE this type of environment and hold your employees to a certain standard. If their expectations were set high, the lazy won't even attempt to apply. Might I suggest a dedicated staffing manager? Their only duty is to recruit, train, and manage staff. Exclusively. So UPPER management can do JUST THAT. I've traveled all over Europe and the U.S. and nothing beats Cloverleaf! Hands down the best pizza I've ever had. On my last visit though, the service was not good. Some friends have said the same thing which makes me think it was not an off night for them. The other day the hostess(?) who looked like a 12 year old girl showed us to our table and walked away. No menus, no "your server will be right with you". Nothing. We waited about 5-10 min. and I finally asked another server walking by if they could send a server to our table. I ordered a carry out from the Original Cloverleaf, Gratiot in Eastpointe. I used the website, from their phone number. I ordered a small antipasto salad and a small supreme pizza. on website it's $7.75 for salad and $9.99 pizza. With tax should have been $18.80 I was charged $23.74. $4.94 difference. Their explanation was their prices went up. I feel it a deceptive practice to post one price and charge another. I used to order and go there a least once a month, even having our dad's memorial there as well as our 60th birthday. They refused to even offer me the price in their website. It was like they didn't care. Sadly, they lost a good customer and by word of mouth, probably more. pizza Was ok, and antipasto salad was sadly lacking meat and cheese. I guess it was my own fault, ordering a hamburger and fries, in a place known for their pizza. Fries were ok, they were hot. Burger was dry and pickles were the worst, and a big piece of leafy lettuce, the part I usually throw away. It was so perfectly round, so easy to tell it was a frozen patty. And the waitress drops off burger and fries, and says "be right back with mustard and ketchup.." so I wait, and I wait, there she goes by....empty handed...so I wait, and I wait, finally just go and get the ketchup and mustard myself. read more

Cloverleaf, it has been a long while since the first visit and I was glad to have come back! I would definitely describe this place as a divey restaurant and bar. The interior is little dated in a good way. Though, the furniture needs a huuuge update. It gives me that 'old' feeling. Their dishes reminds me of the color plates you get from Cici's pizza of Flat top grill. Its the plastic, cheap feeling. Aside that, we got the wings which apparently is a Cloverleaf special. I give it to them. They were cook perfectly, but nothing I would say out of this world. They taste just lile the wings from Coney Island. Pizza, that is where the four stars is. If you're a fan of Buddy's pizza, Cloverleaf is also for you. Their Detroit style pizza lives up to its reputation, for sure. Delicious crust, especially the corners and I would highly recommend the original (small) pepperoni. We also had the antipasto salad, which was relatively average (but good!) and great Italian dressing. Side note: if you like ranch dressing (or dipping your pizza in it), get a side. You won't be disappointed! If I could give 4 1/2 (instead of just 4) stars I would - only because the hostess station was entirely unhelpful; to the point where we almost didn't stay. However, we nabbed a (tiny) table at the bar and had a fantastic server would was very attentive and gave helpful suggestions. It was a busy Saturday night so I would like to be a little more forgiving but it was pretty frustrating. Decent selection of beer and I believe a full bar. We will absolutely add this to our regular routine for pizza - but probably try to avoid prime time. read more
