Great Detroit pizza. This is my 3rd out of the 3 pizza place we visit this weekend. Cloverleaf is good. Not great...Started in 1946, it is a bar and pizza place that prides itself in its family history, I got a small cheese It was good but a little on the well done side didn't put enough sauce so the cheese burned on top forming a burn bubble. We dined here on 11/26/22 and under no circumstances will we ever be returning to this pathetic excuse for a restaurant. Upon being seated we were extremely disappointed to find that COVID was still being used as an excuse to have a limited menu. We had chosen to come here because of the decent variety that used to be on the menu, but apparently pizza is the only entrée that they offer now. I was really in the mood for a pasta dish, but this is only available on Wednesday. Really bizarre business decision to offer your pasta specials on a random weeknight instead of on the weekend when restaurants are typically busier, but whatever. Still, we decided to order an appetizer and a pizza, but when we were informed that the only option for a Caesar salad was their large $10.00 dinner salad, we requested that our pizza be cancelled and asked for our check (we had already received our appetizer). I had also requested that our server send the manager over as I wanted to voice our disappointment to her, but she could not be bothered to come to our table. Our server told us that she had asked her multiple times to come to the table, but she never did. It was obvious from the manager's discrete glances in our direction that she knew there was an issue, but did not want to do her JOB and address the concerns of paying customers. I have never felt so disrespected as a customer in any restaurant in my life as I did this evening at Cloverleaf. I immediately called the restaurant after leaving and asked to speak with the manager. The person who took the call asked why we wanted to speak to a manager. I advised her that I was just in the restaurant and walked out and wanted to discuss the issues that we had with the manager. She put me on hold and came back to say that the manager couldn't come to the phone because they were having an issue with the systems. BULLSHIT! Our server had zero problem printing our check and running our card, so this was obviously just a lame excuse from a spineless manager who could not be bothered or inconvenienced to hear the concerns of paying customers. If the "manager" is reading this -- if you are too afraid to handle a customer complaint, you're in the wrong line of work. If the owner is reading this, you should fire this "manager". If you're a customer reading this, go somewhere else! The management staff obviously couldn't care less about their customers, and the pizza here isn't REALLY that good anyways - go to Green Lantern instead. Way better. This is my second attempt to review this restaurant, --somehow my first attempt did not get published. --- Cloverleaf has always been a standby for great pizza for our family. --- Visited a week ago and everything had changed!!! --- Menu and hours have been condensed, supossedly due to lack of staff. -- But pizza and salad should not have been changed as it did not need "fixing". The antipasto salad was pre made and had been sitting in dressing for quite a while, resulting in a limp and wilted salad. The pizza was not the traditional Detroit Style we have come to love. ---- toppings were piled on top of the cheese and were not only not pleasant to look at but ruined the pizza as well tastewise. --- tons of pepperoni piled on with some sort of chopped tomato sauce ---- Nothing was as expected from this long time champion of pizza and we will not return. read more

5 Star & Beyond!! Eat Local & Enjoy! Love Cloverleaf!!! Stopped in for a Gift Card and stayed for some Dee-Lish-Us Pizza! We came in around 3 pm on a Sunday, the restaurant was nice & busy. The owner, Marie, came by to 'apologize' for a possible wait, since they were short staffed. No biggie what-so-ever...we know 'good help is hard to find' and we are on 'their' time, so waiting was not an issue. However, service WAS quick! We got our beers, placed our orders, got the Gift Card in the wait time...all was good. Our pizza pie came quickly and my-oh-my...sooo good! Still a continuous flow of customers kept coming in and all the waitstaff had smiles on their faces! Marie was making her way around the restaurant, greeting & chatting with her patrons. Such a wonderful, clean, fun & of course, yummy place to be on a Sunday afternoon. We usually order from the Cloverleaf on 15 & Schoenherr, and they are awesome also. So I need to plug them too! Cloverleaf is a great place for Detroit style pizza. We went on a Sunday for the buffet. It's a good deal. There were 4-5 different pizza's. Excellent, when fresh and hot, but a few were getting dried out and hard. But fresh ones came out often. The buffet also had ribs-excellent, Swedish meatballs-good, chicken parmasan, red skins, tater tots, speghetti, green beans, Alfredo noodles. Wife and sister had a small antipasto salad, which was huge, and topped with many fixings, but the Italian dressing they put on was tasteless, and seemed like just oil. Disappointing. And they had pork wings on menu, but was informed they have been out of stock for weeks. But overall, very good, and we will be back. read more

A must have Detroit Pizza Experience. No two ways about it, if you know what Detroit pizza is all about, you should get to know Cloverleaf. It's been here forever and it is one of the definitive deep dish square pizzas around. I can't speak to much else about the place because even though I know they have a full menu of Italian classics, i've only had the pizza. One time I came in for lunch and had the buffet they had set up and just had pizza. So pretty much.. get some pizza. Staff is cool, always an owner somewhere mingling. Lots of regulars, a huge bar and no long wait times for your food. Oh, try the salad too, it's pretty good but I can't remember it after 1 bite of the pizza, it's that good. read more

Went again for dinner with a group of 11. No wait on a Monday at around dinner time. I got the lake perch, which comes with two sides, because I don't care for the pizza here.. I chose the macaroni and cheese and the vegetable (which turned out to be green beans). The lake perch was about $15 and came with six or seven decent-sized pieces of fish. The fish seemed to definitely be fresh, and was pan fried with minimal grease -- it tasted really good. The tartar sauce seemed to be out of a bottle, but I'm not picky about that. The macaroni and cheese was a fair size, but it was about I expected it to be... eh. The green beans were green beans... simply steamed and served in a little dish. The service was pretty good, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Still not a place I'd likely choose to go to, but I was surprised by the lake perch, and everybody else seemed pretty happy with their meal. It's probably worth letting you know that the toppings here are an absolute rip-off ... on the pizza that the others chose, it was pepperoni, onion, and green pepper. Each topping is $1.75 or something like that on a large pizza (After the first one, I think), which is bad enough, and there are just paper-thin slices of the vegetables... what a rip. There was some left over, and when we got home and opened the box, the bottom of the pizza was slimy with orange grease. Mmm... appetizing! read more

Katia is right! I would argue that Cloverleaf has the best square pizza in the state: never short of toppings, sauce, and the price is unbeatable. I have and would still drive 20 minutes just to get to this place! Pizza's not the only thing they do; they have a full menu actually. I've tried most of it, and I can say that they put a lot into their food, especially for a "bar". (if you could call it that. It's equal parts bar, lounge, and restaurant. A lot of "bars" have only sliders or frozen snack foods... but not Cloverleaf.) I'd get the fettuccine alfredo if I weren't in the mood for the pizza. Or just... you know, get the fettuccine AND the pizza. Anyway. It's a great place to have dinner and possibly a drink or two. Finally got to check this place out. And it was worth the trip! This a spacious place with an excellent atmosphere. The menu is very extensive and there are a lot of nice Italian options. The Detroit style pizza is really great. It's a lot like jets but much better. What I noticed is that the sauce is on the top. I'm a sauce guy so the parts of the pizza that weren't sauced were a little dry for me. If you feel that way be sure to order extra sauce. When the sauce was there it was a five star experience. And the cost for six of us was amazingly reasonable. If I had ordered my extra sauce I might have rated it five stars. Don't pass it by! read more

It wasn't cooked all the way through - doughy, even though the bottom looked burned. Can't say much for the sauce as well. Pasta was good, but it was obvious the asparagus that came with it was from the can. Perch was dry. Salad was very good, this why I didn't give the place only one star. I haven't been to Cloverleaf in nearly three years as their quality was very poor; the pizza was underbaked and doughy and the waitstaff was not great... I gave them another chance last night after wanting to pizza, but needing to not go to the usual spot and I'm pleased to say that the experience was much better. It was actually like it used to be before they went on a bad streak. The pizza was hot, thoroughly baked and delicious! *This* is Detroit style pizza and I'm very glad that they're back on track. Our server was also very friendly, so it was a complete 180! The beer selection could use a bit more craft selections, but there's more than a few on the menu, so I can now once again recommend Cloverleaf as a go-to spot for Detroit style pizza and beer! read more
