Clyde's is currently recommending take-out or their drive-thru as opposed to dine in, so we decided to walk in and grab our chicken to go. Otherwise, this location has a decent sized indoor and outdoor seating area. We ordered the "Clyde's Original" chicken sandwich ($8.99), 3 pieces of chicken strips ($11.99), and a side of waffle fries ($3.49). There are 5 levels of heat you can choose from: 1) Naked (which is no heat); 2) Original; 3) Hot as Cluck; 4) 1930!; and 5) Millionaire. We decided on 'Hot as Cluck' for both our chicken entrees. The customer service was standard and our order took about 10 minutes to be prepared. The food was good, but definitely not the best hot chicken I've ever had. The "Clyde's Original" was a standard chicken sandwich complete with a hot fried chicken breast, dill pickles, and coleslaw all atop of a brioche bun. It was pretty average and didn't have much heat in my opinion, but what I really enjoyed most was the chicken strips! The chicken strips were definitely spicy and I loved the lightly crisp and flavorful breading. I'd give Clyde's 3.75 Stars for the food, but rounding up to 4 Stars because I enjoyed the chicken strips. I also really liked the slice of white bread that came with the strips. The bread tasted more "artisan" as opposed to just a floppy piece of boring white bread. The fries were also good, but definitely best when enjoyed hot. While Clyde's is not a place I'd drive out of my way for, it's still a good place to grab some hot chicken if you find yourself in the Montclair area and craving it! read more

Holy inflation, Batman! The family pack is $50 now! Last year, it was $32... That used to be a semi-affordable option for us, but now, this might be the last time we come here. A few months ago, it went up to $42. We gritted our teeth, but we still came. Personally, I feel like $50 is way too much for a few chicken strips and french fries. Plus, they tend to run out of things. Today, they're out of mac n cheese. Last time, they didn't have any sauce! The food is generally decent, but about a third of the time, parts of the chicken are too hard to eat. At these prices, these need to get it right every single time. Also, when they're out of something, they should put a sign out before you enter the drive-thru. We would never have bought the family meal (or anything, really) with no sauce. The spice level is also off sometimes. We have tried all of them, and we prefer the original, but today we were given hot as cluck. Food was ok so the rating is mainly for service and price for what you get. A combo is 17$ not including the sauce which they charge you an extra dollar for. I paid almost 40$ for 2 combos and 2 sauces. The 40$ is definitely not worth the experience, the service or the quality/ quantity of food so I'm wondering why they charge that much for the cheapest type of protein, slow service, and the audacity to charge a dollar for extra sauce (that wasn't even in the bag). Went here on a dead hour and day...nobody in the line or eating inside. Ordered a baby portion of food for myself (6 piece nuggs and fries) and a breakfast burrito for my friend. Not only did I wait 20 minutes for 3 items. The lady who handed them out had the worst attitude. If I could rate my experience lower, I I definitely would. Upon my arrival I ordered a sandwich in which I misread the ingredients and didn't notice till the delivery was made to my table . I noticed & went back and tried to pay for the difference so that they could fix it not only did they refuse me, but they gave me a hard time when all I was trying to do was replace my bread to a brioche bun, which I acknowledged was on my end. I let them know that I would pay the difference for it . They proceeded to tell me they couldn't accommodate my request and told me there was nothing they could do for me. After I couldnt take it anymore i said that I've had enough I took the food back to the front in which they all of a sudden decide to accommodate my choices of bread. This was my second visit having been pleased with the chicken, but the service this time was rude. Walked into this chicken spot, trying to introduce it to my spouse for the first time as she was excited to have the chicken wings. When I asked to order the chicken wings, they said that they had none. So we had to settle with the chicken sandwich. The sandwich advertised shows a chicken sandwich with plentiful coleslaw leaking out of the sandwich. We specified the order without pickles and what we got was barely any coleslaw and plenty of pickles. I ordered the 12 count of boneless chicken bites and was still charged for two extra sauces. Altogether in this order, I paid $50. No wonder both locations Montclair and Fullerton are empty. Especially when I attempted to contact management about this, giving them their opportunity to make things right. I spoke to Marcel one of the owners and he misled me to believe that he could make things right. Now he has lost a customer not that he cares anyway....................Do not be fooled by the automated manager response to this review. They already have my number and they know how to contact me. When thinking about spicy chicken sandwiches, you almost always first think of that crunchy texture that soon relishes a sort of burning spice that is not only flavorful, but packs a slight punch. Clyde's sacrifices the spice for the taste and vice versa. Their chicken was extremely dry, and had lack of flavor and if you don't order enough level of spice, it lacks all the spice. We ordered the spicy, but that was barely anything - for a girl that has done a ghost pepper contest, I know it would probably be safe to say it might just be an individual preference, but bringing it home to the family brought the same reaction (and they don't eat much spice). They claimed that it lacked flavor, the chicken was extremely dry, and the sauce was definitely not enough in the burger. I'd seriously love to introduce my own spicy chicken sandwiches and help them revamp because my friends and family thought my chicken was store bought and this one was homemade... that's a definite bad sign. 5/10 for ambiance because it's in the middle of nowhere and similar to any fast food joint setup 8/10 for service, they were incredibly nice and seemed to care about what we requested for our burger 3/10 for food, but at least the presentation was nice! A handful of people recommended Clyde's to me. Last year we were on a Hot Chicken "tour" where we tried almost every hot chicken place we came across in the area lol. So we were excited to try this place after hearing positive things. We stopped in yesterday after work around 4:15PM. They're located on the west side of Central, north of John's Incredible Pizza. Overall impression of the exterior was positive; easy to see from the street, plenty of parking, picnic table seating outdoors and it has a drive-thru! Apparently this location used to be a Fat Burger. Once we stepped through the doors however, we noticed it was pretty dirty with food all over the floor, empty cups, tables not wiped down, the carpet in the front was folded (tripping hazard). Some of the chairs were on top of the table so I guess they didn't want people to sit there. When I went to get my soda, they were almost out of lids. My husband, our friend and I ordered the Clyde's Original with everything on it with Clyde's Original heat. We also ordered the Strips (Naked) with no heat so we could just taste the bare naked rub. They were blasting the music and the TV at the same time so you couldn't really hear either one plus it made it hard to talk while we were sitting at the table. When the food came out, the crinkle fries came out super hot so we know they just made them. Our sandwiches came with a side of sauce which was good and the bun looked impressive. I think that's where the positive ENDS. We tried the chicken strips first. They had absolutely no flavor and cold so that's where the sauce came in handy. On to the sandwich itself. The bun has a bit of sweetness and sturdy, but too big for the amount of chicken they give you. The chicken in my sandwich has absolutely NO HEAT at all; meaning 1) There was no hint of spice and 2) It was not even temperature hot. The chicken was totally dry and barely warm; seems like they cooked it earlier and didn't even re-heat it? The crinkle fries were good because we could tell they just fried them. That would have made the biggest difference to me if the chicken was at least hot and juicy. Based on this experience I probably wouldn't come back. They actually put two pieces of chicken in it, along with coleslaw and pickles. I dug into my sandwich, and after a few bites the spiciness started to hit me. I like spicy food, but I can't handle much more than the average person. I would say that "Hot as Cluck" is probably my limit, 'cause it was enjoyable yet slightly painful to eat. I scarfed my sandwich down, because it felt better to continue eating than to stop and feel the burn. The chicken was fried to perfection and super tender, which is just how I prefer it to be. As for the Mac Salad, it was just okay. On the other hand, the side of fries that my dad and I shared were quite crispy and delicious! Overall, this place was really awesome. Came here after a friend that lives in Montclair mentioned a new hot chicken place that's is a must. As we walked in we were greeted by Silas. He told us a little of the back story of the restaurant and took the time to tell us about their food and menu. I had a chicken sandwich combo original style since I can't handle too much heat. It was so good! The bread is kanda sweet like a Hawaiian bread. Then you have a piece of chicken breast fried then dipped in hot sauce. It is served over pickles and you're like me you will ask for extra pickles. Then they top it with a perfectly dressed cold slaw. Everything together just makes this amazing hot chicken sandwich. The fries are okay, but then you get a dressing like Raising Caine's. Oh and they won't charge you for extra dressing. The customer service and my meal were awesome. The spice level isn't too crazy hot but it's there. It's a drier sauce, I thought it would be swimming in spicy sauce but the chicken was still crispy when I was eating it. The sandwich was moist and had good flavoring, the coleslaw in it cooled it down a bit and gave nice texture along with a few pickles. Found this place on door dash and realized it was a block away from where I lived. I ordered the meal through door dash as a pick up option and walked there to pick up the food. When I arrived there was nobody at the restaurant besides the business. The order was not ready and I waited maybe 5 minutes for the order not that long. Chicken fingers were juicy and spicy but not too spicy to the point you couldn't eat them or had to swallow it lol. It had good ratio of seasoning on the chicken. The fries were not drenched in oil, they were crinkly hehe the disappointing part was the sweet tea. It was watered down and did not taste good to my pallet or chick fil a has just set the bar high for me in the sweet tea arena. Total amount paid for this meal was $15 via doordash like I mentioned previously. Keep in mind I have the doordash membership so I didn't pay the additional fee. Seating is available inside and outside. The patio area also has a tv but it was not on during this visit.
