Remote worked for a few hours here. I went right when they opened and was greeted immediately when I walked through the door. The service was very friendly throughout my visit and really appreciated the attentiveness from the sever. I ended up getting a hot Charcoal Mocha because it seemed like something you can't get anywhere else, it has activated charcoal, espresso, cocoa powder & a touch of coconut oil. I love that they serve their drinks out of fun mugs, it feels homey. To eat, I got the Charter Colony sandwich once I noticed they offered gluten free bread. They have a great game selection and play area for kids and I think this would be a great place to catch up with a friend. Will be back! read more

What a welcoming vibe! Booths and tables abound in this galley style eatery. There's a fudge confectionery case as soon as you walk in, and let me tell you, it's delicious! I bought several flavors of fudge during the holidays and they were a hit with my guests! This restaurant also features crafts, jewelry, and books from local artisans and authors, which I love since supporting community is a plus in my book! The menu is well thought out, I've been here for breakfast several times and the food is prepared to order! They also carry Cupertino bagels for an authentic NY experience! The server was also the owner and he was pretty cool... chatting with us and giving us some history of the place. We enjoyed his dry sense of humor! We also enjoyed the baked goods!! TLDR: first breakfast experience was great but my second visit was average and slightly disappointing comparatively. Maybe 3rd time's the charm? Vibe- I came here looking for a place to eat and get some work done. If you're big on ambiance/aesthetics then this is not the place for you. The decor is dated and distracted. I was expecting a neighborhood coffee shop vibe but the staff wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming. Overall, service was underwhelming. Food - both times I ordered the charter colony. The croissant is really the star IMO. It's soft, fluffy, buttery - everything you could ask for! Other than that the sandwich is to be expected. Good but not wowed for the price. The side of potatoes were WAY better during my first visit. They were super crispy and flavorful. This time they were average and bordering burnt. I really dislike giving negative reviews especially when staff are engaging. But the food quality at this place just doesn't live up to the other reviews in my opinion. It is palatable but with all of the delicious options in the area, I will never be back. The biscuits and gravy were nothing to write home about. The flavor was just lacking. Also the potatoes were bland and flavorless. The staff was very engaging though which is why this hard for me to write this. They also had fabulous names for their dishes. Maybe this was just a bad day for their chef? I also went out on a limb and got a sticky bun, hoping it had some redeeming qualities. Now buns of any type are my favorites and I am willing to try all styles. Their buns are huge (enough for two people) and covered with a sticky syrup. I had high hopes. But in reality the dough was dry and stale bread feeling and just overly sweet with a sickening sweet taste. I couldn't even finish the half nor could my hubby. I also had a mocha latte that was just super sweet and flavorless. It was quite sad to not even have one thing here that ticked my taste buds enough to return. Despite being in a strip mall, this spot does a decent job of having a neighborhood feel. Felt like customers were regulars. Service is nice. Sandwiches and coffee come out quickly. Used Yelp to find a coffee shop in Midlo area so tried Coal Mine based on other reviews. The shop is cute and has ample seating. We were greeted by a friendly staff right away. A neighbor turned me on to this restaurant, and I was not disappointed. Great coffee! Competes well with the "box" coffee shops. Breakfast is tasty and plentiful. Parking sure was easy to find for Coal Mine Coffee and Sweets! We pulled right up to the front door and parked in a marked spot, for patrons only. As soon as we entered, the owner greeted us warmly and quickly from the counter. She seated us in a booth, tucked away from the front door. On the way in, we noticed bagged coffees and tumblers for sale. It's a cozy little cafe, with an espresso machine and kitchen to the left of the restaurant. My husband is the one with a good eye. When he was cruising the menu, he noticed that they served a chocolate chip muffin. He remembered how much I said I loved those back in college, so my mind was set! Our server was the cafe owner, and she was friendly and took the time to discuss the menu with us. We appreciated her attentiveness. She walked us through the menu. When she served my chocolate chip muffin, I was over the moon. Not only did it look the way I had hoped, it was warmed through and through! Melted chocolate chip goodness, here I come. My husband's brownie also boasted chocolate chips. It did not disappoint in that category. This brownie had a dense, rich texture, almost like a flourless cake. As for our beverages, a large home brewed sweet tea was my husband's pick. How refreshing it was! Not to overpower the chocolate muffin, I opted for a vanilla latte. It was a smooth, creamy latte and perfect for an afternoon inside. We enjoyed our trip to Coal Mine Coffee & Sweets! We'd like to go back and try something from the breakfast or lunch menu. My wife and I decided to try a coffee shop this morning... and regretted it. Definitely should've just gotten Starbucks. This place is in an identity crisis. It seems to be stuck between wanting to be a coffee shop and wanting to be a sit down restaurant. If they focused on one thing I think it may be better. Im extremely disappointed in this place. It was my first and last time dining here. Upon walking in my friend almost almost fell because she tripped on a leg of a giant chair they have randomly sitting in the walking in area. The breakfast sandwich was fine. I got a pumpkin spice latte that was the color of milk, and had no taste at all. The coffee is also $6.75, and an extra .75 cents for less ice. Avoid this place!!!! This is a nice little coffee shop and restaurant! The coffee was very good. The food was great and the people working there were delightful. I ordered bacon and eggs with home fries. I was pleased when I received my over medium eggs cooked exactly right. Surprisingly many restaurants can't get eggs right. These were perfect! The home fries were delicious as well and the bacon was cooked just how I like it. I will definitely return to try out some of the other things on the menu and just to have coffee and enjoy the place. The latte I ordered along with the chocolate scone were okay, but definitely too expensive for the portions. The scone was TINY (6 dollars) and 2 extra shots (4 dollars) on top of an already 8 dollar drink (at 16 oz) is a total deal breaker for me. It was a surprise for me to find a non big name brand here to eat a a simple meal with coffee. That's my weakness. Coffee. Starbucks is a dime a dozen. To start this place had amazing customer service, everyone was super welcoming. When we came, our power was out and they were super kind about letting us charge our devices. Next the food was spectacular, the pictures on the online menu do not show just how good it is and it came out super quick.
