Our table was ready before we'd finished our drinks. Chris was our waiter outside and he was fantastic. We had the calamari, shrimp and grits and the catch of the day. All our meals were outstanding. This is at the Ritz carlton at fernandina beach. When we pulled up, complimentary valet parking. The people were very helpful. We wanted appetizers and a drink. The waitress at the lobby bar said best place would be at coast. What was great was that they didn't just tell us where to go, she went with us to make sure we got there. I mean SERVICE. In capital letters. At coast we ordered seafood chowder for each of us and we had a chicken flatbread to share. The seafood chowder was hot thick and very tasty. The flatbread was excellent and had a wonderful taste. I also had a high tide drink which is ketel one vodka ginger beer lemon juice and amelia island honey. Super great drink. I have eaten here 5 times, 4 breakfasts and one lunch. The breakfast is really good. The best deal is the buffet, which includes coffee and juice. However, the made to order food is better than the buffet. Just be aware that the breakfast crew is a little small since so many people opt for the buffet, so you'll be waiting a long time to order, receive food, get a check, etc. They do gourmet Southern food really well. My only complaint was the the Southern breakfast was deconstructed, and it was a pain eating (or rather, recombining) all the components separated into their own little dishes. Lunch was fine, but honestly, I'd prefer to eat out by the pool with the more casual menu. Kids are treated like royalty. If they don't have enough high chairs, they'll bring them from another Ritz restaurant. The kids are given Wiki sticks to play with while waiting for their foods. The kids menu is a great deal, although the food offerings are a bit generic. Prices are high, but it's the Ritz. Service is top notch, with servers who have been working at this location for years or even decades. Again, they get overwhelmed during breakfast, but the service is excellent at lunch (and probably dinner). read more

I've been eating and staying at RITZ hotels for a decade. First bad review ever. Made a reservation for dinner with family. Bread rolls were bought out were stale. When asked, waitress indicated the rolls had been overcooked earlier that day. Why no one mentioned that to us or why they were they served to anyone? They went and found a couple fresh ones from a different restaurant at the hotel. I ordered a Caesar salad and a main course fish dish. Waitresd served me the fish on top of the Caesar salad- apologized that she heard wrong. The swordfish was overcooked and dry. We got there at 5:45 PM with no one in restaurant and still took an hour to get food. No general manager in sight. Poor food. Poor service. Poor management. read more

This is a 4.5 star review. Coast was the first place we had dinner after checking into the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, a couple of days before the Labor Day weekend. The weather was temperate, so we asked for a table on the screened-in patio. We loved the setting. I was famished, so I ordered the filet, which comes with asparagus (fresh and tender), garlic mashed potatoes (flavorful), and dinner rolls (served warm, with room temperature butter on the side). I ordered the filet medium, and it was presented medium rare, which was fine with me because for some reason that is what I expected. The steak was served with a roasted mushroom ragout, in my view the perfect sauce for a filet. My lovely bride ordered the fried artichoke appetizer, and she raved about it. Service was excellent. Hostess was very welcoming and our waiter was well educated on the meal... He recommended that the mixologist create our cocktails... We love it.... we ordered Seafood patter for appetizers which included, raw oysters, cocktail jumbo shrimp and crab claws that was seasoned to perfection... Our main course consists of filet Mignon a bed of mashed potatoes and a side of carrots.. the steak melted in your mouth and the potatoes was so creamy and delicious.. We also had pork loin, collard greens and Mac and cheese... OMG it was amazing... last but not least the Complementary desserts was key lime pie and chocolate mousse cake... just thinking about is making my mouth water... Why gorgeous Amelia Island has so little Good Seafood establishments is beyond my once-professional purview ! There is a surfeit amount of Pizza & Burger restaurants here, but our market should be one of Seafood and Al'Fresco dining. The places that offer seaside dining have so little indigenous fare--Salmon & Halibut are wonderful creatures, but we have an ocean of crabs, shrimp, skate, octopus, flounder, trigger fish, wreck fish, et al ! Far be it for me to know why this is not offered, however Coast employs many of said local cornucopia ! Apalachicola Oysters, Mayport Shrimp, & Mahi-Mahi were on offer the date of our experience. The service was the usual attentive Ritz Carlton one gets accustomed to. For three people, including tip, came to $ 300 which is a bargain for this posh place. read more

Overall, I was very impressed. I had dinner here with my parents during our Thanksgiving holiday on Amelia Island, but dined here on Black Friday so there was (thankfully!) no focus on traditional American Thanksgiving foods, which I tend to detest. Instead, as the name ought to suggest, the focus at Coast is on seafood however they of course have some beef and chicken options for diners not interested in seafood. Their real expertise appears to be in fin-fish and my parents both were very pleased with their fish dishes--flounder, I believe, which was a nightly special. I ordered the seafood chowder plus the cheddar biscuits, for a lighter dinner. The chowder was excellent, simply excellent. Creamy but not coyly so, with the right amount of sherry added in, and with ample amounts of shrimp, crab meat, and fish. The flavors of all ingredients came through swimmingly. I was very pleased and will have to figure out if I can replicate this dish at home. The cheddar biscuits were another matter. On the menu, they read as if they would be presented as-is, with pimento cheese and pickles on the side, as if presented akin to a cheese-board. However, when they showed up, they were sliders with the pimento cheese and pickles instead sandwiched between the cut biscuits. No indication whatsoever of this on the menu. It seems a recent trend to do this: to offer on a menu only the ingredients and no indication something aside from what may be expected is being done with the dish at hand. I've seen this elsewhere and I was a little dismayed to see it here. The menu read: "Cheddar Cheese Biscuits: Pimento Cheese | B&B Pickles". If they are sliders or little sandwiches, tell us as I'd have not ordered that had I known. Despite the biscuits, the dinner was wonderful. The server was great and the bread which came with the meal, like the seafood chowder, was superb. The atmosphere was very nice as well and the design of the restaurant is done in a manner which makes it seem larger than it is, taking a moderate space and really presenting it as something casually elegant and also expansive enough you do not feel crowded even if they are close to full. They do at the holidays a buffet for kids in the back of the restaurant which I felt was a great idea as well, so instead of ordering one item from a children's menu, kids have an open variety to select from and the fun of going and getting it from the buffet themselves. The dessert selections also are impressive and I had their key lime pie. It was good, but a bit of a departure from the true key lime pie--which I found overall fine, but since this is Florida I did consider that some guests from afar might prefer the real original if they are seeking an authentic key lime pie whilst in Florida and hoping given the caliber of the restaurant such may be supplied. Also, it was slightly too sweet. But still: beautiful presentation and effort and overall very good. Same with the service and everything else. I do not think if you want a casual or family-friendly dinner at the Ritz you'll be disappointed in Coast at all. read more

Coast is pretty good overall. We ate here mainly for breakfasts after our walks on the beach. The food is good, scrambled eggs creamy, bacon thick and crisped just so, and potatoes that are cooked just right to accompany everything on the plate. Great selection of pastries, made to order omelets, a few chef specials that my husband loved! Great fir families, indoor and outdoor seating. Coffee is ok. But you can always grab a cup at 'the drop ' right down the hallway! read more

Second night eating here this trip. The food the first time was great. Steak frites ribeye, nice lemon butter it was nice. However, the second night I ordered the steak frites again and listed on the menu the steak frites describes a 14oz Ribeye. But when my steak arrived it was an at most 10oz. Strip steak. Someone had it located in the marsh lands across the bay but it is at the Ritz Carlton on the beach. A great location for breakfast or lunch. For breakfast they have a buffet $28 that includes drinks or menu items that you may as well just get the buffet. The buffet is set up with your chafing dishes in the center with fruits behind it. The omelette bar and meats are to the side with breads there as well. A wonderful meal so bring an appetite. read more

Food was good, service was terrible. First let me say the hostess was great! She sat us and got us water and the bread basket immediately. Our waitress served those around us and never came. We finally flagged down the hostess who took our order and served us the entire time with the exception of one time our actual waitress asked if we were done with our plates so she could remove them. (We knew she was our waitress because when we flagged the hostess down it was to ask who our waitress was as we weren't being served). If we are to eat here again, we will do take out and bring back to our rooms. It was just an odd experience. Update on take out option! Limited as we are all dealing with the corona virus. Went and did take out, waited forever, didn't check my bag of food, got back to my room and realized they didn't give me my drinks and a whole order!! Grrrr. Looking for a special evening on the island, we chose Coast at the Ritz. Let's start with the best. The Maître d' was delightful: professional, helpful and amusing. Now the rest. I presented my list of food allergies to our server. He came back and said the chef would like to come out and speak to me personally. He repeated several times that the kitchen creates everything to order, so chef will have no problem accommodating. Ok, good...right? Almost 30 minutes later, chef comes out to go over my allergies. We went over my list, and I said "feel free to combine components of various entrees that are allergen free". So what was I served? A plate of white rice with a piece of fish on top and steamed unseasoned broccoli. The path of least effort...actually no effort whatsoever. To add insult to injury, my plate had been sitting under a heat lamp so long, the fish filet was curling up, and the exposed rice was dried out and chewy. Not a $30 entree. Terrible. I was a complete afterthought. Other items of note: My "Spinach and Kale" salad contained no kale. Romaine or other green leaf lettuce...but not kale. Details...details. My husband ordered a dozen raw oysters. Neither the menu nor the server stated their provenance. At a restaurant named "Coast"...on the coast...I would expect they would have a list of the freshest oysters, and their characteristics (meaty, buttery, briny, etc.). Nope...these were just oysters, with no further information. To whom it may concern: there are many amazing local restaurants on Amelia Island, just a short ride from the Ritz. I recommend venturing out and discovering them. read more

Waiter was very apologetic, and to his credit, comped our meal -- but it's too bad this is the only lunch option at this resort. We loved Coast! Of course the service here was 5 stars, would not expect anything less from the Ritz! I'm not sure why the reviews are on the low end, this place is amazing! I tried the spiced grouper and it was hands down the best grouper I've ever tried-- tender and cooked perfectly over a bed of creamy grits and greens! They also offer a bread basket with a variety of bread and crips with citrus honey that was delightful! The seafood platter is also a MUST try! --Some of the freshest lobster and shrimp I've ever tried! So so delicious! When we finished our dinner, the pastry chef came to our table and offered us a handful of complimentary salted caramels and they were amazing of course! I am really confused as to why this place is rated so low but it looks like it was for other meal times. I had a wonderful dinner here tonight. The chicken and waffles were just spectacular! It included a lovely Green Tomato Jam with a Sweet Grass Dairy's 'Heat' Cheese Rosemary-Bourbon Glaze and Honey Butter on the waffle. This was the first time I have had chicken and waffles with boneless chicken! This was such a nice change. The chicken breasts were perfectly fried and the waffle was crisp on the outside and fluffy in the side. This was one of the best chicken and waffle dishes I have ever had. I also had a virgin jalapeño margarita. This was spicy and packed a punch but was still refreshing. We don't go to the Ritz too often but every now and then we put on our good rags and treat ourselves...and since it is Restaurant Week on Amelia Island with a specially priced menus we just couldn't resist. GOOD DECISION! Everything was outstanding...the service, the atmosphere...the lighting was just right...and although most of the tables were taken and conversations were flowing...it was quiet...the beverage was interesting...ginger beer, lemon juice,mint and blueberries...and it was wonderful. The lobster bisque was creamy,tangy and simply delicious as was the sea bass(grilled to perfection), purple rice and the vegetables that came with. I hate to be redundant...but I have to say...the dessert was so fine, too....apple butter cheesecake...half of which I had to take home. I could eat no more. I was full up to my eyeballs.
