I would strongly recommend avoiding this office. I scheduled my appointment over a month ago, and on the day of the appointment they called asking for my insurance information, even though I tried to provide it when I originally made the appointment. The front office staff was consistently rude, unprofessional, and seemed unwilling to help. I even had to call them back myself just to get the text message link they wanted me to use to complete my paperwork. The lack of organization and poor customer service was extremely frustrating. When patients take time off work and wait weeks for appointments, the least a medical office can do is communicate properly and treat people with respect. This was our first visit to this pediatric office. The ladies at the front weren't rude, but I did expect slightly friendlier personalities for a children's office. Thankfully, the nurse who helped us, Valerie, completely made up for that -- she was amazing with my daughter, very kind and patient. Our appointment was at 2:45, and we were taken back about five minutes after arriving, which was great. Dr. Lavadia helped us today and truly won us over! Dr. Dominga Harrison is truly one of a kind. She is so sweet, kind, and gentle with kids -- you can tell she genuinely loves what she does. My children feel comfortable with her, and I always feel at ease knowing they are in such good hands. I honestly wish there were more doctors like her. I look forward to every appointment because she makes it a positive experience. She listens, cares, and treats your child like they're her own. Welp! I think we can all agree that searching for doctors can be daunting in itself. With the many searches, recommendations, reviews etc it's draining. Add to that, a move from Los Angeles, many years, and many specialists for our lil boy at children hospitals later and our son being on the spectrum. . The front office staff is rude, impatient and condescending. There seems to be a divide amongst MDs and NPs/PAs as they seem to only have negative things to say about each other. I've seen multiple providers for wellness visits for my daughter and weight checks, which could've been avoided. I told one of the NPs I wanted to exclusively breastfeed and she advised that I stop supplementing for 2 weeks and wait to do a weight check then, which I obviously did not wait that long to do because I knew my daughter would lose weight. Other providers I've seen have advised to cone back for weight checks 2-3 data, but 2 weeks..... absolutely ridiculous. You're honestly better off taking your children elsewhere. I have been going here for four years with my two boys and after today's visit, I am going to change pediatricians. I show up for them to tell me I didn't have appointment & they were able to get me in. But that was not the breaking point for me. It was a new staff member that they have a male that takes you back to your room was very rude in a rush kept dropping everything even dropped my son's binky on the floor after he threw his clothes to the side of the patient bed. He had no compassion for my son when he was measuring his head or measuring his height on the bed. He just should not be working near children. the office just feels like it's been going downhill & It's not what it used to be. read more

This review is a bit delayed. We went ahead and moved on from this practice and don't regret it. Things started off fine, we really liked Dr. Bustamante but rarely saw him. Which we understood, he gets busy. However, we had a number of really negative experiences with this office. In 2016 we had our second son, and Julie, one of the NPs working there, was concerned about my son not gaining weight after birth. She repeatedly cut my wife off when expressing her concerns, saying "Well this is very concerning" instead of actually hearing my wife speak. Absolutely atrocious bedside manner. Thankfully, Julie doesn't work there anymore. We took my son there last year because he had vomited hard for most of the night, 4-5 times. He seemed fine the next day, but we noticed a hard lump on my son's neck and decided to take him in. Dr. Bustamante said to us, "It's just a swollen lymph node, what are you doing here?" Exact words. Sorry we interrupted you, Dr. Bustamante, but I'm not a doctor. I thought it might have been a swollen lymph node, yes, but a hard mass anywhere on the body is cause for concern. We really liked Dr. Blyth at the 34th St office, he was so kind and we had zero complaints about him. Unfortunately he retired. Most of these reviews are right - you better not be more than 5 minutes late, but I guarantee you you'll wait an hour or more. Only their time matters, not yours! read more

Do not go here!!! I had to switch pediatricians due to insurance and it was my first time here and I saw Dr. Lavadia. She was very rude, did not interact or talk with my baby, interrupted me when i was expressing my concerns with my daughter's dairy allergy. She then continued to push formula on me after i've been exclusively breastfeeding for 7 months. Due to my daughter's dairy allergy she suggested I put her on formula or cut out dairy from my diet. When I told her I would cut it from my diet she continued to try to scare me by saying "my diet will be very bland and gross". She then ordered a stool sample because my daughter is "malnutritioned" mind you she is a chunky and happy 19 pound 7 month old who is far from malnutritioned. When i told her this she said "i need to make sure she's getting proper nutrients from your breast milk" She continued to push formula on me and after telling her I would like to continue breastfeeding she said to come back in 2 weeks after being on the formula. I finally snapped and told her i don't want to do the formula just yet and she sent me home with a sample because "i was going to change my mind" Despite this, she was very blunt and rude and never even said hi to my daughter or interacted with her in any way. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place not one bit. The medical assistant (don't know name, she never introduced herself) who first helped us was insanely rude since she first called us in. She looked frustrated and angry at my 2 year old who didn't want to get poked on finger (obviously). She grabbed his tiny fingers really hard and squeezed them, in an angry manner. She would pull on him and squeeze him. He was literally traumatized and to top it off she came back in and did it again and got so frustrated she walked out on us without saying a word. Who the heck works at a Pediatric center without having a single word or trying to communicate with the patient (a child)??? You're a stranger touching him, of course he isn't just going to let himself. And to top it off I waited another hour for the dr. to see him (excuse was she was in a meeting) waited a total of two in a half hours in a room with a toddler in a pamper. And if that wasn't enough the room was super dirty. It was the first and worst experience ever! NEVER AGAIN! read more

This office is the worst at dealing with patients and very unprofessional. My daughter had an appointment due to being sick with a high fever. My husband was on his way with my daughter to the appointment and had to pull over due to my daughter getting sick in the car so he called the office and got put on hold. He was calling to let them know what had happened and that he might be a little late but the office had him on hold the whole time until he got to the facility while still on hold only five minutes late they turned my daughter away and said that they could not, take her due to being five minutes late. I called and asked to speak to a manager and left my name and number and still to this day. I have not received a call back. read more

They canceled my nephews appointment and he needs his vaccination. The front staff js so rude and giving my sister a hard time. This is the 4th time they have canceled my nephews appointment. Then they wonder why patients get so upset with then. This place is the absolute worst pediatricians place in Bakersfield. So many bad reviews. Scheduling process: very difficult to get a slot and the person on the phone that was helping me with scheduling an appointment seems like 1) always on the hurry/go... 2) irritable... 3) not very familiar with the scheduling program 4) not friendly. I had two school aged kids that need an appointment. They aren't flexible in getting the same time slot or back to back time slots... so working parents suffer at their convenience! Because of the multiple kids, multiple dates/time slots, with the multiple staff/provider, I was trying to confirm the details (kid, date, time, staff) but the scheduler lady was rude and acting offended. Luckily I insisted on clarifying the information because it comes to show that she "forgot to click save" and that one of the kids wasn't scheduled. Went to the appointment only to find out that it was only to hand us a lab request. Nobody explained the process and when we asked if we can get the other lab paperwork for the other child now (rather coming back at another different appointment to get the lab paperwork)... they said no. The whole process seems inefficient and cold... no explanations. It seems more like they're interested in get my insurance money. read more

Well where do I start this place for me was terrible took my granddaughter there to see a pediatrician she wanted to see a female pediatrician I'm like okay no problem we made the appointment for him is at at 10:15 I'm there early cuz I know I got to fill out stuff gave him some of the paperwork they go in the back and said that I have to have more paperwork to prove that my granddaughter is my granddaughter since I am her full guardian and my wife is also and I'm like I don't have court documents with me right now I have her social security card I got her medical card which she's on our insurance with my name on it her name on it and my wife's name on it and her covid card with her name on it but that wasn't enough for them so my wife so they said I had to reschedule I'm like really all this documentation and I got to have court documents saying that this is my granddaughter and I'm the guardian of her so my wife you know email me the front page of the document and I said hey what's you guys email so I can email the document to you the front page so you can so I can prove that I am the guardian she said she had to go back in the bag and make sure it was okay and all that good some like okay since it was past my 10:15 scheduled time to see the doctor I'm like really you giving me a hard way to go for documentation and I have the documentation here and you really don't want to see it you still wanted me reschedule their customer service sucks up front I guess they were training a new girl and the one that was training was sitting behind her I'm like really I can get my granddaughter a covid shot without having Court documentation but an insurance card with her name on it my name on it and my wife's but she can't get a physical to see a pediatrician really the only reason why I'm going to give him a benefit of it out because next time that my granddaughter comes to this place I'm not bringing her my wife will bring her she got a little bit more patience than I do I don't have patience for stupidity but other than that nice looking office cuz we didn't pass the front desk clean kid friendly but we'll see how the granddaughter likes the doctor the girls 12 years old she'll tell me so it's hard to recommend a place that their customer service sucks and the only reason why I'm giving them two stars is because my wife will bring her next Monday and hopefully she have a better outcome oh and this is the 34th Street location I have no clue about the other location read more

We have recently moved counties I have moved and transferred medical physicians a few times -- So far I love this Pediatrics office. They are so kind and VERY helpful over the phone. I also enjoy the hold line they describe the physicians who work there and list all kinds of facts which is better to listen to than some musical tune. I called to make two appointments in one week and each visit was timely and the nurses were so helpful. The office is a bit small and could use a deep clean but overall it's tidy here! The drs we have seen have been great. Respectful and understanding to say the very least! I appreciate the assistance and patience they have here. One more thing. Parking-- Lots of parking spots in the dirt lot ...I couldn't rlly find a spot in the parking spaces in the lot. read more

I was not told that while on the phone making the appointment. I called main line and they had already marked us a no show and no other appointments available. So far my experience with this office has been really great. The wait to get into a room is a little longer but it is understandable with how busy they are. They were able to fit us in short notice with my newborn. Dr. Bustamante was one of 2 doctors my pediatrician recommended for a circumcision. They worked with me and my insurance to get us in and have the procedure covered under our insurance. At first I was hesitant to get on their messaging system but now I wish every Dr. was as open and available as Dr. Bustamante. He has really set the bar for me. He accepts messages and photos in regaurds to my childs health any time. He is quick and on point with responses. My insurance has us back with our local pediatrician again and he is still helpful. I am truly thankful to him especially right now. read more

We are new to the state. I made an appointment for both children with one doctor only to have them cancel. I heard that Bakersfield Pediatrics was very good so I called to schedule an appointment. My daughter is on medication for ADHD which her regular physician prescribed in Michigan and is almost out, and for obvious reasons, those medications don't transfer across state lines, which is fully understandable. Just be aware that if you have a child with ADHD, Bakersfield Pediatrics will not treat them if they require medication. Apparently they refuse to prescribe "ADHD medications." I was told to call the behavioral health number on the back of my card. They wouldn't even give me a local referral. read more

Time for a review update! I think this is my first one. I feel it is necessary because I did leave out some positives from my last review. During our most recent visit, the wait time had decreased significantly. Granted, I was the only one in the waiting room, but I've had that situation before and still waited 20 mins past my appointment time to even get into a room. The front desk staff continues to be friendly and upbeat, even early in the morning. I didn't hear as much loud conversation of proprietary information as the last few times. Lastly, I need to emphasis that while I was/am unhappy with Dr. Bustamante and his bedside manner, I am extremely pleased with the care and concern given by the Nurse Practitioner my child sees. The NP takes the time to address all my concerns (which can be many as a new mother!) in a respectful manner and my child really enjoys smiling with her NP and I've never seen my child be nervous or hesitant with the NP. I think each with a large practice such as Bakersfield Pediatrics, you have to take each visit as a separate interaction and have understanding that there will be wait times and that people have bad moments, even in professional situations. read more

I am beyond disappointed with the phone staff at this office. I've been taking my kids to Bakersfield Pediatrics since before it was Bakersfield pediatrics! I mean Dr Bustamante was MY pediatrician growing up!! The appointment taker was not a kind person. She pulled up my son's history and made sure I was "aware" he hadn't been there in a year and hadn't had a physical since 2019. Well I'm not sure about the rest of you but I only tend to take my kids to the doctor when they are actually sick or it's vaccine time!! We also had a freaking pandemic and taking my young child to a doctors office full of sick kids just for a physical was literally the last thing I was going to do. But to try to make me feel guilty about my kid not being there in a year and scheduling him to be seen 2 months out!! Blows my mind! 20 years ago my brother had gone to Dr Bustamante. My mother always expressed the great experience she had throughout the years with this pediatrician and it was my desire to have our first child be seen by him. We just finished our first appointment for our baby girl and we are beyond thrilled to continue to be seen by Dr. Bustamante. He truly has a passion for what he does and completely personable with our baby Sophia, my husband and myself. We felt right at home and know that our baby girl is in great hands! Finding a knowledgeable pediatrician and one that truly cares is hard to come by. Every time my son has gotten sick, I've walked in or called and they have always sent me away saying they don't have appointments available... I don't schedule my son's illness!!! The Dr we loved there is no longer there. I called because my newborn is ill, they had me on hold for 13 min and when it became 12pm I was high up on. 1st of all I've been taking all my kids here for the past ten years. This was last straw! My son has Down syndrome and needs PT services well with my insurance there's a 12 month waitlist so my option was to get it covered thru CCS service or drive to Delano 2x a week. Mind you I work part time I need services covered here locally. They weren't willing to help and had the nerve to say don't bring up Pt or ccs services again. My son has been sick and I have been trying to get him into see the doctor and everytime I call I get put on hold by reception or I just don't get to talk to anyone at all. I have now been on hold with them for 22 minutes and haven't talked to anyone at all. I have had this problem more than once. They do not answer the phones and if they do most of the time they are extremely rude. They even put my sons name in backwards most of the time (last name then first name) and wonder why they don't see my child in their system. read more

Yes, I know this is a pediatrician's office and I am 50 years old. So how could I possibly right a review that is relevant? Well, challenge accepted. I first came here last summer with my friend and her two year old (then foster) daughter. The final adoption papers were being signed and they finally had the legal right to get her ears pierced. We brought her here, to Dr. Bustamante's office to get the piercing done. Mind blown. I had NO IDEA that one could get their ears pierced at a doctor's office. I thought my only option was to let the barely trained employees at the (less than sterile) kiosk at the mall or at one of the accessory stores there do the job. But it actually makes far more sense to have trained nurses or medical assistants do the job in a sterile environment such as a doctor's office, don't you think? The really nice thing about it was that after they swabbed her ears with a sterile solution and used a marker to put little dots on her ears to show where the piercing should go, they unwrapped sterile single use earring guns (I have no idea what the technical term for these it) - one for each ear. Then they used TWO medical assistants, one for each ear, and coordinated the piercings so they both happened at the same time. GENIUS Can you imagine if a single girl had done one ear, then had to deal with a crying squirming kid while doing the second? Yep, just too clever for words. And when they gave her a lollipop a minute later her tears turned to a smile as she happily sucked away on it. Happy kid, happy mom. So, today we made a return visit to Dr. Bustamante's office because the adoption of the same friend's 1 year old is finally complete and it was time to get HER ears pierced. On neither occasion was there much of a wait to get in and the waiting room was not packed. Her daughter sat on the the exam table, happily smiling while the lady swabbed and marked her ears and the sadness was minor (less than 30 seconds of crying before a hug from her mom comforted her) when the fearless duo pierced her ears at exactly the same time. And then it was my turn. Yes, I decided to get my second set of ear piercings redone. They'd closed up a few years back because I didn't keep earrings in the second set of holes often enough. (Back in college I had 3 holes in one ear and 2 in the other). It was fairly quick and relatively painless getting both ears done at the same time like that, though I will register a slight objection to the fact they did not offer ME a lollipop. In fairness to them, though, I didn't ASK for one and I'm certainly able to. I shall drown my sorrows at the New Years Eve party tonight where I shall be eating tiramisu (far superior to a lollipop) and showing off my adorable new earrings. The cost for the piercing, including the earrings, is only $40; and I have the comfort of knowing that the job was done by professionals in a sterile environment. My mom is thinking about getting HER ears pierced, and if she does we shall come back here to have it done. read more

We've been going to Bakersfield Pediatrics for about 5 years now. We've always received average care, nothing to really complain about other than the fact that there's never any availability when my kids got sick etc. The new policy that doesn't allow both parents to be present at an appointment is very poor especially after the recent events regarding my infant daughter and the lack of care/education on the staffs behalf. I took my baby in for her last round of shots at 8 months and left extremely upset. The assistant was training another lady that day, came in to administer the shots, quickly inserted the needle, pulled it out, and then immediately inserted that exact same needle again in the same location claiming that the vaccine wasn't injected the first time. The knots and bruises my daughter were left with was horrendous! Today, my husband went to the appointment with us for her next set of shots now at 1 year old and the staff refused to let me in with them. Kristen then argued with my husband when he brought up our previous experience and asked for an experienced nurse to administer the vaccines. She was very rude and unwilling to listen to my husbands concerns. 20 years in the medical field means nothing to me if you and your assistants can't figure out how to properly administer an injection to my child!! We are very displeased with this office and will not be returning for any future visits. read more
