Beautiful location & the food is pretty nice but $$$ You used to get chips with 3 different salsas . Now they charge for those salsas. ;/ We had steak & shrimp fajitas for 40.00 & it comes with about 1/2 cup of rice , no beans & 2 tortillas. We asked for more tortillas but the service was so slow by the time we got them the food was done. Then if you add a couple of 20.00 margaritas & your are looking at 100.00 for lunch. Plus I hate the new "service" fee for employees. Cohn group pay your people. You can afford it. I feel like restaurants overall since COVID are trying to convince people to eat at home. Everything costs more but restaurants don't do anything to make you feel good about spending your money. We had a party of 5 for a birthday and a reservation. Upon being seated, I requested a kid's menu solely because I am a picky eater, NOT because of an inability to pay. After a long pause, the server initially gave me a look that said "really?" when asking for this. The waiter then proceeds to not even bring my drink to me, instead setting it on the opposite of the side of my table where someone else had to pass it to me, while everyone else in my party received their drinks directly in front of them. He also brought crayons with the menu making a joke about "if I want to play games" (I am clearly an adult). The waiter then got off shift (no problem) and we received another waitress who was equally as rude. I did not receive a refill without my husband having to ask, with a clearly empty drink. The waitress also seemed irritated others in our party made requests to remove the 5% surcharge "to help offset rising costs" on our bill (why is this on the bill in the first place?) The birthday in our party didn't receive his dessert until we were about to leave as they had evidently forgotten. It is clear the restaurant waiter and waitress we had were under the assumption we could not pay regular menu prices, or tip well, and treated us as such. We only give two stars because service could have been worse but was NOT satisfactory. In addition, there were no smiles or genuine pleasantries and they seemed to be "over it." Wow, the ambiance and view from this restaurant alone is worth it. The skyline and Coronado bridge look amazing once the sun goes down. The wait staff was nice and amicable. I ordered the Rainbow Trout and well as you will see from the picture was HUGE ...I ate a 1/4 and was full. I honestly would have taken it with me, but my hotel didnt have a microwave. I ordered a soup, and instead of bread the waiter offered me ciabatta toasted like croutons. I agreed. When the waiter brought the toasted bread, it was clearly fried in oil. In my opinion, there was far too much oil -- to the point where it was unpleasant to eat. What surprised me even more was the taste. It felt as if I was eating fish or something distinctly fish-related. I assume it was the oil. I can't say exactly what kind of oil it was -- possibly fish oil, or perhaps something fish had been cooked in using the same oil. To clarify this, I called the waiter over and asked how and in what the ciabatta was prepared. He told me it was made with olive oil -- just ciabatta and olive oil. I asked if he was sure, explaining that it did not taste like olive oil at all. He replied that he would check and come back. I agreed. When he returned, he said it was prepared with vegetable oil -- though he wasn't sure exactly what kind -- or possibly in the same oil used for cooking vegetables. I then asked why it had such a strong and obvious fish smell and taste. I eat croutons regularly, and if they are made with olive oil or vegetable oil, as he said, they simply cannot smell and taste so distinctly like fish. The waiter apologized and said he didn't understand why it smelled like fish. I returned the dish, told him I didn't like it, and that I did not want to eat it. From this experience, I can conclude that the staff -- including the waiters -- do not fully understand or know the menu. Moreover, customers are given incorrect information. It would have been better if the waiter had said from the beginning that he needed to , rather than confidently providing inaccurate details. The most unpleasant part is that the croutons, which according to the description should have been cooked in olive or vegetable oil, smelled so strongly of fish that they were extremely unpleasant to eat. Combined with the excessive amount of oil, the dish was simply inedible. If the kitchen allows something like this, it is, in my opinion, a serious red flag for the restaurant as a whole. Unfortunately, I cannot describe my experience at this establishment as positive. Thank you for your attention. read more

I had already scanned the menu a couple of days before and knew I was going to have a Coconut Margarita which was 5 stars. We had 7 people in our party, everyone ordered different items from the menu and all were delicious. I had the Heirloom Tomato salad and the Chicken Tinga Empanadas both tasty. None of the food is that good and it's pricy. The best thing on the menu is a cocktail - the coconut margarita. This of the only reason I keep going back. That and the view. Epic view of downtown. We didn't make reservations and was able to snag a great table on their outdoor patio. It was a weekday lunch. Parking was free in their large lot. Ordered the ceviche classico to start and it was larger than expected and oh so good with the fresh tortilla chips. For lunch, we were able to mix and match the tacos. Each plate came with two tacos and I was able to order one blood orange battered fish taco and one shrimp taco. Both delicious and can't with a small side of rice and beans. read more

Coasterra is where we always take out of town visitors. The food is reliably solid, and it's hard to beat the water views. The service is consistently solid. The pineapple tamarind margarita is probably one of my favorite margaritas in town, and the crispy calamari and queso fundido are how we start our meals. Reservations are recommended, and make sure you get a table outside to fully appreciate the setting (their outdoor/patio-covered area is larger than their bar and inside areas). Prepare to be whelmed. I've never had such a whatever experience before, especially at a Cohn restaurant. Granted, it's been some time since I'd visited one of their eateries, but I still hold them to a certain standard, and they missed that mark more than hit it during our dinner. The service was fine. Our waiter was attentive enough if slightly curt at times. The view of the San Diego skyline is nice. What really left us without much to talk about was the food. The potato flautas were okay, the garlic chili oil packing the only real punchy flavor on the plate. The ahi tuna tostada was also okay. The ingredients felt fresh, but mostly bland and uninspired preparation. The salmon was also just okay, especially for nearly $40. The green beans were the best prepared and tasting item on that plate. The carne asada was decent, but definitely not carne asada. Pretty sure it's just a small portion of the ribeye for two they offer on the menu. It's served over refried bean fondue, which just tastes and looks like refried beans. We ordered cocktails too but they left even less of an impression than the food, so I couldn't tell you what it was, other than red and every so slightly medicinal. Overall they really need to breathe some life (and flavor) back into their menu. read more

From the sunset view of the city, fab table side guac from Thor to a special birthday flan with a candle, we had a fantastic experience. We sat outside overlooking the water. It was a little chilly but the heaters kept us very comfortable. Our server was very attentive and very helpful. I had the hibiscus ginger mocktail - very good. The guac was phenomenal. We had the carne asada and the carnitas - both were fantastic. We loved the views and the relaxed vibe. I really enjoyed my lunch with my mom here. Bf treated us and suggested this place being award winning Mexican and what a great view!!! There was a company event going on so the parking lot located where the restaurant was, was full so they had someone direct us to a parking lot a block down. The restaurant did validate our parking tho which was nice. We were seated on the outdoor patio right against the glass and i loved our view!! U could see the navy ships right across the water and ducks swimming on the water. Our waiter was patient and kind and let us know what she enjoyed on the menu. I knew i was getting carne asada tacos bc those are my fav!! They were so good!! Plenty of meat and only a sprinkle of cojita cheese bc i dont like too much of that and i liked using the salsa on top of it. The rice and beans are nice as well. The Enchiladas came more like a quesadilla and we put the mole on the side. Glad we did bc my mom didnt love it and the waiter made the call on that which was great! Absolutely stunning! Im already dreaming of a next visit. I made a Saturday night reservation as part of my 3 day roadtrip from LA. From the time I arrived, everything was perfect. The hostess at the front was kind enough to seat me early, and a great team of staff regularly came to check in on me to take my order, fill and refill water and answer all questions. I got a tiki margarita to start, which was beautifully presented with a sugar cane stick, black salt, and tasted absolutely delicious. I enjoyed that with their perfectly seasoned salsa and chips and then waited for my shrimp aguachile and salmon. I could have waited however long it took- it was amazing looking out at the San Diego skyline, and quite comfortable outdoors with the overhead heating. The Aguachile had popcorn in it which was odd, but didn't take away from the spicy and sour taste which hit all the right spots. The salmon...might just be the best salmon I've ever had anywhere. Perfectly moist, a little crisp on the outside, and the sauce compliments it so well! The little touch of pickled carrot and crisp green beans were also just as amazing. I finished my meal with the tres leches cake, which was just as good as the rest. I liked that the cake was on the firmer side to stand up to the milk it was soaked in, and that everything was lightly sweet.
