I came in on a Saturday night without a reservation. They found a place for me at the bar. Absolutely everything was top notch. Service, menu, staff...: I started with the scallop & prawn appetizer, then the steak salad (tenderloin & bacon)... Had the duck as a main.... A duo dessert that was a brûlée and a fudge like chocolate... a perfect culinary experience It was all excellent and as described....nothing pre cooked or frozen tasting here. How do you rate perfection?!?!?!? We had never even heard of this place until a friend of ours referred us. The moment you walked thru the front door you knew this was going to be an experience that left you speechless. Allison our server was top notch and knew the menu in the greatest detail, and how to sell it. The timing between greeting, drinks, then placing order just helped make the experience even better. The ambiance was like you were in another world and treated like royalty. The manager Eric stopped by and engaged in great conversation. The fruit and vegetables came from a local farm close to where we live. The Drumheller's farm is incredible. Their meat comes from down the street from where we grew up in Lynchburg Va. What the chef and his staff are able to do is pure art. Don't walk, you need to run, or drive very fast to get to the gem. read more

My friend and I dined at this establishment because of the good reviews but we were so extremely disappointed I just had to share it here. I'm not sure where these 5-star reviews are coming from or if these are friends of the people that work there but there is NO WAY this place is good to so many. First of all it's dark as night in there. We had to use the light from our phones to read the menu. I understand "upscale" restaurants use dim lighting however, "upscale" restaurants don't have paper table coverings, burlap curtains or painted cement floors. The guests at the bar were loud. It reminded me of being in a sports bar. Our water glasses were dirty and the logo for the restaurant was peeling off so the server was kind enough to get us clean ones. The wine selection was good but terribly over-priced. We decided on espresso martinis. They were weak and bitter. The salads were under dressed. Our food was okay but not fantastic. The vegetables were undercooked and the au gratin potatoes were tasteless. The server was kind but, we could tell she was having a bad night. The atmosphere as a whole seemed tense. We skipped dessert. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all. There are so many other fine choices in Williamsburg. I'm disappointed we wasted our time and money here. Never again. read more

I will not eat here again until I learn there is new management. We had an 8 pm reservation for four people. I was prepared to spend several hundred dollars on our meal, but we left without ordering. We were seated at 8 and then sat there for 20 minutes before our server, who was chewing gum, ever visited. She poured our waters, told us about a drink special and then walked away almost mid-sentence. When she returned a few minutes later, she asked what we wanted to drink. We said that we would like to see a menu first and she walked away and then brought us menus. So now we are about 30 minutes in. At about the 40 minute mark, she brought two containers of butter and told us how fancy the butter is. I asked if we could get some bread to go with the butter and she said yes and then walked away. No bread. We finally got up and I asked to speak with the manager. When I informed her of our terrible service and told her we were leaving, she said, "Hmm, that's surprising. [name] is one of our best servers." No apology. No, "let us make this right." It was truly an awful experience, which is sad because we like the food. We will not be back. read more

Quarantine. It sucks, I get it. But these guys should be ashamed of how they sent their food out the door. There is absolutely no mention of the fact that they are sending the food out COLD, either when you order or on their website. I called twice, in fact, asking about various items, and was never told that the food would be sent out cold. When I called back to ask what was going on, I got a "oh, yeah, that's how we do it. We'll reimburse you if you want to bring the food back." It was gross. The French onion soup looked like gravy, with no onions, no crouton, no cheese. The fried chicken tasted like fish. I'm not sure if they're using batter from fish, or old oil that was used for fish, but it was terrible. The salmon was vacuum sealed and cold. The vegetables consisted of two asparagus and three slices of carrot. The fingerling potatoes looked good, but were ice cold. The au gratin potatoes also looked terrible. When I brought the food back, I was given no apology, just more of the "that's how we do things" party line. The chef was within earshot and obviously didn't care. This was our first experience with this restaurant, and will probably be the last. I'm not impressed with a restaurant who makes no effort to make things right. read more

The food was so delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was local upscale vibe. I ordered a sea bass that I had not heard of that tasted exactly as the server described. The meal came with scalloped potatoes made in a stack that was yummy. I had a beefsteak tomato appetizer. I was too full for dessert but the waiter talked me into peach and fig cobbler. The cobbler was great but would have been better with cream of some sort. I highly recommend. read more

We stopped in tonight because we really liked the menu that is on the website. We're visiting in town for just a couple days and wanted to have a nice dinner. Somehow the menu we were presented in the dining room was considerably different than the one on the website and not in a good way. The website offers a burger, some salads, a soup, and some other items but the menu we read once seated was completely different, quite expensive and mostly items that our party wasn't so excited to eat. A Perfect Evening We picked this place for a birthday for my step mom while on vacation and one thing was clear - Cochon understands that hospitality means creating a memorable experience. We arrived with a special personalized menu for my stepmom. The servers wished her a happy birthday and made sure she got special attention throughout the evening. She was very surprised and impressed - typically when you note a birthday on a reservation, it's simply a "happy birthday" from the server. In addition to that, service was perfect. Everything on the menu was great from appetizers to dessert. We had a party of five adults so we tried a lot of the menu. I can't remember exactly what we had but five stars for everything. Service last night was awful. We waited 15 minutes for our waiter to show up to take our drink order and 30 minutes for our entree. The owners excuse was: we had 200 meals to prepare! I honestly am just in awe at how amazing our food was tonight that I had to write a review right away. We started off with their soup of the day (an absolutely delicious clam chowder) and warm goat cheese salad. The goat cheese was fried to perfection and paired very well with the greens. We also loved their take on clam chowder, it was filled with more veggies than potatoes which was a refreshing spin on what we've had before. Our entrees, though, stole the entire show. I had the salmon and my boyfriend got the duck. Both dishes literally melted in my mouth, I seriously was shocked at how everything cut like butter and just seemed to dissolve onto my tongue. The duck tasted like perfectly cooked steak to us, which was a very welcome surprise. The salmon had the perfect salty crispy layer on top with a tender and silky inside. Both entrees came in with (can't remember the formal name) thinly sliced potato squares made of 22 thin layers and a creamy, cheesy filling in between. I was so sad I couldn't finish it all but that's what boxes are for! Then, we finished off with the very-rich chocolate pate. My boyfriend was certain he wouldn't be able to eat the dessert but one bite and he had consumed half in seconds! We were told that all their dishes are cooked at a high temp of 550F over hickey and white wood, which was pretty interesting. Presentation was clean and neat. Service was on time with an equally attentive and informative waiter. We always appreciate those that can give great recommendations. The ambience is more dark, rustic and romantic. Classy but not too dressy. My would parents have difficulty seeing in darker restaurants and would have had to pull out their phone flashlights for this one. Another thing to take note would probably be that parking is a little tight here so it wouldn't hurt to get there a bit earlier then your reservation (which we recommend getting) and find a place then. Overall, we're absolutely in love with the food here and are already planning to come again soon! read more

This was our first time there and it was amazing. We enjoyed this so much more than Le Yaca, which we have been to multiple times. The atmosphere, food and service were great. I had the pan seared scallops and they were the best I have ever had. I enjoyed every bite. I am looking forward to going back again. We are so glad that we picked this restaurant during our honeymoon trip! The ambiance was amazing and the entrées were unreal! I could seriously go on for days about that Ribeye, it was like a religious experience. The Ribeye was a special, but hopefully they try to incorporate it into the full menu. We are also huge fans of the stacked scallop potatoes that come with every dish, it was hard to pick what to eat because it was all so good that you did not want to fill up on one thing and miss out eating another. The desert was a braised peach with peach ice cream and some sort of salty buttery caramel sauce. It was very unique and tasty. We had a private room for a party of 20-ish, and we had the absolute best experience -- all thanks to Teri, Allison, and Katlyn. They were so on top of everything, and were so kind and pleasant. The service was simply top notch. And the food was damn impressive, too. My husband absolutely loved his filet and I really enjoyed the rockfish Provençal. Had a great meal here on a trip to Williamsburg this past weekend. Everything from the drinks to the salads to the main courses to the service was first class. My wife loved the fried oyster salad and I had the fried goat cheese salad with roasted red peppers. Both were flavor bombs. For main courses, my wife said the duck in port and fig reduction was melt-in-your-mouth good. I had the pork chop with a pineapple relish that was grilled to perfection, charred on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. The relish added without overpowering the chop. Both dishes had a fabulous au gratin potato side dish: crunchy on the outside and creamy within, flavored by bleu and parmesan cheeses. Fabulous! Our server was warm and informed, and made excellent recommendations. Drinks were creative and flavorful. I enjoyed the smoked old fashioned and my wife loved her elderflower martini, which she requested with vodka rather than gin. Excellent desserts with a peach-covered pound cake and a Death by Chocolate cheesecake. (Although, I am still alive :) ) Our server was knowledgable, warm and attentive. She gave some excellent recommendations. Only issue was Apple's navigation app which showed the restaurant on 2nd, when it is actually in a strip mall that runs perpendicular to 2nd St. Turn into the street next to the clock tower, just past the Buick dealer if you are coming from Highway 5/60. I recognize this review is at odds with the reviews normally associated with Cochon. However - just celebrated our 27th anniversary and left the restaurant without eating. Waitress - great. Bar tender- great. Salad - great. My main meal was the filet ordered medium. Came out grey. Dry. And room temperate. Meal took 20 mins to come to table. I would have simply squeezed my nose and swallowed it but considering the god awful price I asked for another try. I stressed: medium. Within 3-4 mins another steak came forward. This time it was blue. And cold. I felt as though we were on some TV practical joke show. At this point I simply concluded it was an off night. Chief was not on his game and we were left holding the bag as a result. Cochon - we've come here often. You're better than this - gather the lessons learned and avoid "this" from happening to someone else. read more

We traveled all the way to Williamsburg for a special Valentine's dinner specifically at this restaurant. We simply love the name, especially after dining at a couple with similar name in New Orleans (different restaurant group from this place tho). So, after researching the menu and their special Valentine's meal, we booked a hotel room and drove down for the day to dine here. We had a hard time finding it, since it's in a small strip mall, towards the rear, but once we walked inside, we instantly loved the smell of the open fireplace and the views of the open kitchen. The large Cochon logo on the wall, lit with the garage light and the pigs on display everywhere really added to the amazing décor this place exhibited!! We were instantly greeted and advised that since we were early, we could hang out at the bar, which we gladly did. They have a very nice wine list, which isn't very pricey at all, but loaded with spectacular selections! Service at the bar was friendly and helpful and the other guests around the bar were engaging. Once seated, Simone came and greeted us and explained their menu. He did a very nice job explaining their menu options and the preparations of them. I did advise him that we were in no rush, as we prefer to sit, sip and dine for an extended amount of time, especially since we had 4 courses of food to enjoy. They were very busy (obviously, it was Valentine's Day) and it seemed they were trying to get as many turns out of the tables as possible, which is nice to allow more to dine with them for the evening, but causes those dining here to have to rush through their meals, which is not preferred. I say all of this to say that we were basically served each course with little time to digest in between and it was too rushed to enjoy adequately. (One of the two reasons I gave 4 instead of 5 stars too) As for the food... It was all plated beautifully and looked amazing! Their lobster bisque tasted spot on, wasn't too rich and creamy and boasted lots of flavor! The Moody's sticky ribs were cold and a little on the fatty side. Not much smokey flavor to them, but the sauce was spicy and amazing. The Rocket Arugula salad looked amazing, but the dressing was way too tart, even with the sweetness of the figs cutting that tartness slightly. The Baby salad was incredible! All the various textures from the corn, lettuce, etc really made it truly tasty and enjoyable. The Rack of Lamb was prepared perfectly and was OUTSTANDING! It wasn't gamey and was nice and lean and one of the best lamb dishes we've enjoyed. The filet was just ok... a little stringy (which I found odd in a filet) with gristle but with a nice crust on top. The port wine reduction was non-existent (seriously, not sure if they forgot to put it on, as I didn't see nor taste it). The potato au gratin side was extremely salty and wasn't very edible, but the other veggies were WONDERFUL and tasty. The final, dessert course was incredible! The macerated berries were fresh and tasty and the bread pudding was outstanding and just the perfect portion! Overall, the visit was still very nice and we would definitely return when back in town, as well as suggest Cochon to others! read more

A nice French country chic restaurant that's on the pricey side but definitely worth every cent. My sister suggested this restaurant for my birthday dinner (while visiting the 'burg). It's a quaint place and the staff were very friendly and nice. This place was a bonus as well. For fancy prices, the required attire is casual, which my husband was thrilled about for sure. My steak tenderloin cut with ease, hold your gasps i ordered my steak medium well. I know absolute blasphemy. It was charred on the outside but cooked with enough pink on the inside to maintain its succulence. Their potato cake was loaded deliciousness blended with parmesan cheese and blue cheese. A savory bite with each forkful as it touches your lips. All of us in our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Among all the pleasantries a really nice touch the restaurant offers is printing out a menu with a message if you're celebrating an occasion. I was definitely pleasantly surprised. They printed one menu that they handed to me that said "Happy Birthday Janice" on it (thanks sis for telling them and thanks to my husband for dinner )and had my little group sign it before they rolled it up and tied it in a ribbon to take home. For those who might want to surprise their loved ones or celebrate something special like a proposal, a baby announcement, birthday or graduation etc you might want to put this place in your back pocket for future reference. We ordered dessert to go since we had one more birthday adventure to experience. Their dessert duo was take out heaven that I enjoyed back in our condo resort. One of us ordered banana bread pudding to go that came with ice cream. Since our waitress knew the ice cream wasn't going to hold up, I was gifted that ice cream with a birthday candle atop. Has been a while since had been to Cochon. Still a very good place to meet friends and have an excellent meal. Despite having a reservation there was a bit of a wait. I think that occurred because there was a jazz trio playing. I hope that this becomes a regular occurrence. In addition to being pleasant they added to the relaxed ambiance. My friends had the sea bass and salmon. Both reported being very good. The highlight of my meal was an octopus salad that was soooo good! Apparently this was a special and am glad. I also had the salmon and I can attest to its delicious. Topped off a delicious meal and company with Sally's pound cake. Makes a lovely place to celebrate a special occasion or you want to feel special. read more

Best restaurant in Williamsburg in my opinion. Chef owned. This is a smaller restaurant. Reservations are a must. But everything from the food to the bar service to the wait staff is excellent. The chef keeps the menu small -and it changes - based on quality and availability. They do steaks better than the premier steakhouse in town (Opus9) and every one of their seafood dishes is impeccable. While the interior is not as fancy as the white linen service at Le Yaca it's still charming whether you sit in the rustic style open kitchen dining room or in the fireplace room that is sometimes closed for private parties. Since discovering this restaurant this is now our go to- and we have yet to be disappointed. Highly highly recommend!! read more

I went here with my husband for our anniversary on a Wednesday night. We were able to get a reservation on Open Table for the same day at 5:45pm. We each ordered a glass of wine and then had a cocktail for dessert (the server let us try the wine first to see if we liked it which we did). We got a caesar salad and a warm goat cheese salad. They were both very good. They do use anchovies in their Caesar salad dressing but it's very mild. For my main course I got the salmon with peach salsa which came with au gratin potatoes and veggies. My husband ordered a NY strip with the green peppercorn sauce which also came with au gratin potatoes and veggies. Both of our main courses were very good. The place smelled smoky in a good way, with a mix of colonial and pig-themed decor (but also in a good way?) and the service was extremely attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant but it is a bit pricey (our bill was $200) read more

We ate here for a wedding dinner. This place is high class and you will need to dress for the place. This place is awesome! High class, tasty food, drinks were liquor up wonderfully. My husband got a shot, Johnnie Walker, which is high class liquor, it about knocked him off his feet and the portion was a lot more than a shot. My husband is a pretty good drinker and can hold his own but he said this shot was like "BAM". The food was tasty but not a lot for portions. I got the salmon and hubs got the filet. It was cooked perfect over hickory smoke grill. We had our own room that was situated right off of the bar area. It had a beautiful fireplace, dim lights, very romantic atmosphere. I could definitely see coming back here!! Highly recommend the Johnnie Walker shot, it will knock you off of your socks!! LOL. I had a couple shots of Patron which were ice cold shots and more than a shot in the glass and couple glasses of wine. All in all we had a great time!!!! WoooooHoooooo!
