Quesabirria (3 for $16) comes with onion, cilantro, and birria (au jus) for dipping. These are delicious!

BLACK ÖYSTER CULT I can see why this Nayarit-style seafood restaurant in Bolingbrook has a devoted fan base. A few weeks after welcoming our daughter into the world, my wife had a simple request: oysters. Instead of dropping a hundo on dinner at Hugo's Frog Bar or Catch 35, I found this place close by on Route 53, just north of Lily Cache Ln. We've been to Perla Negra twice and left satisfied on both occasions. My wife enjoyed a dozen oysters on the half shell ($20), one of the few things she couldn't have while pregnant with our 2nd kiddo. I was happy to see their Micheladas ($7) were fairly priced and refreshing to boot. Lots of places deem it a cocktail, when in reality it's just beer with Clamato (a tomato juice blend) so kudos to them for not overcharging. Shrimp & cheese empanadas (4 for $13) were piping hot, delicious, and came with fresh avocado slices alongside a chipotle dipping sauce. The elote ($5) was good, too: boiled corn, mayo, cotija cheese, and cayenne pepper with a squeeze of lime. 5/5 for both of these. The quesabirria (3 for $16) were terrific! A cross between a barbacoa taco and a quesadilla, these were served with onions, cilantro, and birria (au jus) and were just as tasty as Taco Dale's, if not better. 5/5 Surprisingly, the ceviche de pescado ($16) was the weakest of the dishes we ate. Our ceviche had tilapia, cucumber, onion, tomato, carrots, cilantro and lime juice topped with avocado. Though a decent portion size, it was very soupy, tough to eat with chips, and was the only item we didn't eagerly devour. 3/5 Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 4.5 Our server was just the right amount of attentive. They have a gorgeous wall mural behind the bar and TVs are usually playing soccer. I dig the "Te: Amo / quila" neon sign, but it seems too trendy for a place like this--I think it'd be more at home at Blanco Cocina + Cantina in Oak Brook (or in my basement). * TL;DR * It sounds like Perla Negra gets pretty wild on the weekends--their website suggests you make a reservation--so business must be good. The seafood is high quality, authentic, and not exorbitantly priced. I could tell this was a reputable place based on the fact that I was the only non-Latino there, usually an indicator that food's the real deal. I'm happy to recommend and will definitely return again in the future. No pirates 'curse' here, just a glimmering black pearl with lots to offer.

Compared to Mexican food on the south side, it is a little more expensive, but the tacos I got were on fajita sized corn tortillas and very packed with shrimp for 20 dollars and an horchata. I got the governador shrimp tacos and I loved the flavor. It does not come with beans and rice, but I was very full with the three tacos that came with it. Very cute and spacious restaurant. Very helpful and kind servers. I was happy to find this place in dupage county since i haven't been super impressed with the quality of the Mexican food here. Some of the best shrimp tacos I've had.

Cocina 53 replaced Perla Negras Mariscos. Apparently the menu stayed the same. My husband and I were craving mariscos, so we decided to check this place. The service was great, clean place and well designed. The food was the okay, it felt very basic.

Delicious Breakfast Burrito! To big to even finish

Our first time to this place and we loved it! Food was hot and very tasty, reasonably priced and delivered fairly quick. Manny was our server and was AWESOME! He kept our drinks full and brought us plenty of chips and a variety of salsas. The atmosphere was very pleasant, even got to experience a Mariachi Band If we're ever in Chicago again we'll definitely be back!

    Cucumber House Margarita And Guacamole

After coming here it turned out to be a better experience. It seemed pretty unfriendly to vegetarians because this is primarily a seafood Mexican restaurant. Perla Negra Mariscos actually has a few things. Of course margaritas. There's also authentic and fresh guacamole that's chunky and spicy. Even though the menu is mostly seafood there's a few things that aren't. It of course has margaritas. These are the authentic kind that are salty and not just the glass rim. Had a lot to choose from. The one I got was the Cucumber House Margarita. It's $6 for a decent amount. This had a bright green color and was better than typical ones that are made from a mix. Everyone else seemed to like what they ate. They got fish and shrimp. It looked good but I didn't take any pictures. Thankfully I got a picture of the guacamole I got because this was among the best I ever had of this. It's about $10 for a bowl. This is made with fresh avocados, black pepper, fresh lime juice, onions, and tomatoes. It had some good spice to it. This was also chunky and not smooth like commercially produced. Bad thing is there wasn't much for me to eat. In spite of this there's good things like margaritas and guacamole. The prices are okay or a little high but you get very good stuff.

It was 5:45, I didn't have a reservation, a they didn't have a table available until 7:30 but there were spots at the bar which they said was full service. My friend and I cozied up to it and ate there. What a surprisingly good experience. The staff was super friendly and that bartenders had great suggestions. I hate when people at the restaurant say everything is good. Not these young ladies. They made some sound suggestions which we followed. French onion soup and the steak frites were both excellent and priced well IMO. They have a really good whiskey/bourbon selection with a few hard to find bottles. I settled on a Blantons neat. They had Pappy, but I'm not wasting money on that anymore. Food came out quickly and we ate and watched a baseball game. The locals at the bar told us about their membership program where I guess for a small mo they fee you get a bottle of wine and a charcuterie plate once a month. Seemed like a pretty good deal. I don't live anywhere near there, but if I did I'd certainly join. In any case, if you live anywhere close, this is definitely a worthwhile restaurant to visit. Seems like there were quite a few singles there as well if you are looking to meet someone. I have no idea what the dating scene is like in Lemont, but this might be a good spot to try.

We figured it would have been the perfect way to top off our evening. For first-timers it might be hard trying to find the speakeasy since at first I thought you had to access it from the Busy Street and walk up three flights of stairs. Actually you just walk inside of the Embers building, find the elevator that's kind of hidden and take it to the Third floor. I thought that the little trip up felt exclusive already. Once you're at the third floor you are treated to a beautiful array of scenery. Exit to your left and you were treated to the bar and some great tables with a cozy, intimate setting. I'm not sure if it was open seating since there was a little podium right off the elevator so we just sat ourselves. Some speakeasies require a certain dress code to keep up with the times. This one thankfully was casual though many people dressed business casual. We actually loved how the staff dressed as well. I have to try their Japanese sex drink and I absolutely loved every ship that I took. The drinks are fairly price. They did have a food menu but it was mainly snacks and small plates that were a bit overpriced. If we're having a large Gathering they have a big private room next door. This place does have a lot of great events going on as well with their upcoming Valentine's Day event that looks really interesting. Altavida's concepts for the three levels are Publico, Rumba, and Altura. Publico (1st Flr)- A South American fusion of food and drinks that will be rotating. The cocktails will be more tequila and mezcal based and food will be subtly rotated based on trends happening in South America. The food menu currently offers tapas, empanadas, ceviche, guacamoles, larger format meat/seafood entrees, and more. They will have a front of our bar as well as a back bar that will specialize in more coffees/coffee cocktails. Rumba (2nd Flr)- The entertainment floor! There is a separate bar on this floor that will specialize in more Rum based cocktails. Additionally, they will have a wine bar area with wines in tap. Lastly, they will have an open area for live music as well as dancing. Their hope is to have a mix of jazz, club music, salsa dancing options available. Altura (3rd Flr)- This floor is still under construction but will have a rooftop patio. The hope is that this space will be an event space both for public and private events. Back to my experience! My partner and I stopped in for a cocktail and to see what Altavida was about. Our first bartender was very nice but was still getting used to the drink recipes and was leaning on their cheat sheets. While we waited, another bartender kindly told us all about the restaurant and its focus on hospitality. Unfortunately, each bartender had a slightly different explanation of the restaurant's goal concepts which was confusing. We ended up ordering the El Toro and Vaquero (both mezcal drinks). Both were VERY spirit forward to the point that it may have needed better balance. Both drinks had a nice presentation with garnishes, color, and a skull feature at the bottom of the glass. Lastly, we saw many people walk up and look confused as there was no formal host stand. They didn't know if they should seat themselves or wait for someone. Overall, there still seems to be some kinks needing to be worked out as well as some conceptual editing. I feel they are trying to achieve too much and it ends up being confusing for staff and guests. I hope with time, Altavida is extremely successful in the Naperville area and I hope to circle back after some time passes.
