Over the last five years we have been regular customers but over this last year and a half the way they treat their customers I will no longer be giving them my $$. On one occasion I gave them a $50 bill, got the wrong change. Reconzined it once I left. Called immediately and they said there was nothing they cld do. I've ordered 125 burritos once a month regularly for my business safety meetings and always have to ask for punch cards for the burritos bought. Some times I've let it slide. But again they forgot and I was anxious to get to the meeting so went in the next day and they said "oh you have to get them the day of" same ppl that took my order and previous orders so they know I buy regularly. Done giving them my business!! And lately on the restaurant side services has been extremely slow!! So many other businesses coming to town we have more options now. read more

So so Mexican food. I had the chips and salsa which were ok but nothing in the ingredients that popped out at me. I also had an appetizer which was taquitos I believe which were fairly tasty but those filled me up on my own. Good thing the main course I ordered was actually intended for lunch the next day. The chili verde burrito that I ordered was huge! The green chili itself had a kick to it but once again none of it screamed to me that I found a treasure of Mexican food here at Mi Cocina. Overall very good! Let's break it down: Quality: Fairly good, comparable to most other Mexican restaurants around Northern Colorado. I'd consider revising the salsa recipe a bit if they want that 5th star as I do consider that part core to any Mexican restaurant. The salsa needed a bit more zip. However the Nachos were awesome, and the main plates were very good as well, no complaints from the group certainly. Price: Very reasonable I think, I felt a smidge cheaper than most. Service: Very cheery and on the ball, we were in on a Sunday night, things weren't too busy and she was very friendly! Berthoud, Colorado (NOT CA) Rip off restaurant. We were charged $25 per shot of tequila for an average non- top shelf tequila at a small Mexican place in Berthoud. My friend paid $100 for a double shot for her and me. You can't make this stuff up. The service as less than average and the food was also the same; bland. We walked out and my friend was too embarrassed to say anything to me since she covered the cost but after looking at the receipt, she decided to call this place to see if there was some mistake. There was no compensation for this ridiculous cost. For an average tequila at a little dive in Berthoud...well, the whole bottle itself was not more expensive than Patron. We called a liquor store to be sure. Keep in mind we're talking Berthoud...little 'nothing' place. Who do you guys think you are anyways...some classy, upscale joint? Whoever owns this place needs to reconsider what you're charging customers without ever handing them a drink menu. Beware to all of you wanting a shot or two. I really have nothing positive. I found it dirty/ dingy and the atmosphere is dusty. The food was extremely distasteful and generic. I didn't find the it fresh at all. Cocina has been our go to Mexican restaurant for awhile now, food, drinks & service have always been excellent. But our last two trips produced a different experience with the food. Instead of the usual queso cheese, my enchilada suizas had two melted slices of some kind of white cheese, and was smothered in some sort of red sauce, in the past it was a green chili sauce. While the plates were hot the food was not. Woke up with a very upset stomach today, hoping this is just an anomaly. read more

We were having a small family get together of four people and needed somewhere to go that was convenient for everyone to meet at between Johnstown and past Berthoud. Being a newer restaurant, we decided to give this place a go. The salsa and chips were ok...but the salsa was really lacking. Three of us ordered chimichangas and one ordered a type of enchilada. My chimichanga was interesting...a little squishy from all the sauce which shouldn't be. It was decent tasting otherwise, and a good portion. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their food for the most part as well. The wait service was absolutely wonderful. We were seated right away, and our drinks and meals came quickly. Our party got to talking and we left kind of late - we didn't realize they had been closing up. You know what though? They didn't bug us...they let us finish our conversation which was really cool of them, and thanked us for our business on our way out. The decor inside...well, it's obviously an old house fixed up to be a restaurant. Doors everywhere, a staircase behind the hostess station, etc. They had it all decorated up for Halloween and did a cute job of it....I liked the inside...it was different. They have a nice patio outside as well, which we saw some people really enjoying when we entered the restaurant. All in all, it wasn't the best Mexican food I've had but by far it wasn't the worst. For as cool as the staff was, I really hope they make it. It would be nice to see Berthoud sustain a good restaurant. One thing I would automatically improve here is the salsas....seriously, ditch the stuff in the jar and make it fresh! Why? While we all miss Santiago's, I have to say Mi Cocina's food is good and one of our favorite restaurants in town. The patio is a great place to hang out and the night they have margarita specials (Monday?) is really popular. Following our Berthoud pub crawl, we settled in here for a light dinner. The server was courteous and spoke very good English; the menu was extensive and boasted all the classic Mexican-American favorites. Our group shared a plate of chile verde (stewed pork in green salsa) and a trio of enchiladas (chicken, cheese, beef.) Both entrees came with Spanish rice, refried beans, lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream. They were exactly what I expected -- not top-notch quality, but filling and good. The server brought hot sauce on request, as everything was a little too bland for my taste. Nice little neighborhood joint! We would definitely visit again. read more

First impression was this is a nice old house turned restaurant with outdoor seating (which was closed on the nicest day of spring so far). The menu seemed a little pricey but the portions were very large. I had the blandest taco salad ever and my friend who never complains complained. Okay, seen the reviews and had to add my own. If you want Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food from border Texas border towns this is not the place. It is a simple Mexican food restaurant with authentic recipes that you would find at restaurants in Zacatecas, Nuevo León, or Aguascalientes. House margaritas are fo those who want alcohol and enjoy cheap tequila. However, order the top shelf tequila in your margaritas and they make them from scratch and are great. Carnitas Plate is big and satisfying. They have two versions of chile rellenos - soft and crispy. I recommend the crispy version. The salsa that they give everyone is nothing to write home about, I agree, but if that's why you're going there, then you can go to the Whistle Stop in town for your American dreck. This is a great place with wonderful staff. Treat everyone with respect and you'll have a great experience. Oh, and most kids enjoy the bar area better than the dining. We come into Berthoud a couple of times a month, and when we go to one of the breweries in town this is one of the places we'll get food. We've had mixed success with the food, from average to good. We've never had anything we didn't like, just we haven't gotten anything that was great. Based on where they are, the prices are also fair. A couple of good points, my wife says their margaritas are very good. They also have a very nice selection of beer on tap, including a local beer from City Star Brewing. End result, there are worse and better Mexican places around, so I wouldn't go out of my way to either go here nor would I avoid them. read more

The service is excellent there is always a nice and courteous server. They recently upgraded their salsa and always bring more if you ask. The guacamole is good too. Prices are fair and there is always enough for lunch tomorrow. The beans a vegetarian friendly and they don't mind specials. This is one of our go to restaurants if we want Mexican food. We also love the breakfast burrito door on the side for a quick weekend breakfast. We have never had a bad meal here. We have never had bad service here either. Reading through the other reviews really surprises me because they are so opposite our long time experience. They might not be five star, but they are absolutely worth a stop. read more

Terrible customer service. Food was good and good margaritas, but customer service is terrible. The man at the bar must have an issue with young ladies, because I've been in there a few times with my sister and alone and his service is horrible. Although he's nice to the men and couples. He doesn't come back to the table for 10 minutes plus. The last time he argued with me for an additional charge for a side I didn't think should be extra $2.00 whole bucks. I was going to pay it anyways I just said he should of let me know it was extra and then proceeded to tell me I should "read through the entire menu" to see all the prices. Total jerk.
