Delicious Tamarind Margarita & Chili Relleno Enchiladas!! Spicy salsa was delicious too!

We tried Mi Cocina tonight and were happy to get some Mexican food. We got seated right away and got our drinks. The food was good, but the service was really lousy. The waitress never came back after we got our food. We had to ask a different waitress for our check and the girl that served chips and salsa for a box. We asked for water and didn't get it. There were more flies inside than out. The air conditioning didn't work. There were complaints from where we were seated that it was hot. The lady at the other table commented that she should bring her fly swatter next time. The restaurant was dirty. We are done coming here. read more

The food wasn't bad but the amount of flies in the restaurant was worse than if we ad been outside. Makes for a not so great experience.

I was surprised to find Mexican food this good in such a small town. Having moved from Fort Collins where I had a hard time finding Mexican food that was up to my standards (I grew up where you could get a lot of good Mexican food in Aurora), I was happily surprised to find Mi Cocina. I've been a few times and have had good, large portions of authentic Mexican food. The only thing that kept me from giving Mi Cocina 5 stars were their margaritas, I'd prefer them a little stronger but this might just be me. :) read more

I was so hoping that Berthoud would finally get a great Mexican Restaurant. From what me and my granddaughter experienced tonight my hopes were extenguished by a Jumbo Chalupa and the common hamburger. We arrived around 7ish and only had to wait for a few minutes to be seated. We were first taken into the bar area (my granddaughter is 9) and asked to sit next to a group of adults that were obviously enjoying their evening, so I asked the waiter to please seat us somewhere more appropriate so a child would not be exposed to colorful talking and also so that the people in the bar could be relieved of having to curtail their expressive language. We were taken into another room which was much better. Immediately, an employee brought chips and dip to the table ... oh boy did we get big smiles because we both love chips and dip. Ugh! My granddaughter dipped in a chip, popped it in her mouth and then remarked, "Uh, Nana, the dip taste like cold veggie soup. She was right. We asked for some spicy dip and were served a bowl of roasted green chili that had been diced. Stems were included. The salt and pepper shakers were empty (makes me question how well they take care of their tables after closing and before opening ... I mean .... empty?), there was small pieces of paper all over the floor and when my granddaughter went to the restroom she came back and said that the restroom reminded her of horror show ... "it is really creepy in there Nana and they don't have hot water for washing your hands." The hamburger my granddaughter order (because she did not see anything on the menu she wanted) was tougher than boot leather and I am serious. I could barely cut it up to put it into the box to take home for the dogs. The burger was not only tough but dry and tasteless. The Jumbo Chalupa I ordered was not good at all. First it looked more like what I would call a Taco Salad. The beans at the bottom were soupy with regular cheddar cheese on top then covered with shredded ice burg lettuce a few slices of tomato topped with overly grilled pork and shrimp and I think chicken. When I say overly grilled I am serious. The outer part of the meat was so burnt that I could not even bite it. The shrimp was okay until the third one which was raw. When we ordered the salsa it never arrived until I got up to go look for our server. The server took my granddaughters drink away to refill and it never returned until I got up to go get it myself. We ordered a large order of breakfast burritos for a meeting. We heard they make the best burritos in the area. I was not impressed compared to other burritos we have gotten around Loveland. They were good sized, but lacked in flavor overall. The potatoes over power them and were undercooked. Reheating the extras produced a tough dry tortilla. If you are looking for the best breakfast burritos, I recommend Tito's. They pack great flavor, reheat well and are $1.00 cheaper. read more

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant on the front range. The service is excellent, and the charm of the converted historical home is something to admire. The green chile is amazing, and the quality of the authentic style Mexican food is reminiscent of restaurants I've been to in Arizona. With all do respect to the other reviews, I think you guys have been through too many Taco Bell Drive-Thrus... The chimichangas are the best I've ever had. Best Green Chili in northern Colorado and The Bacon Breakfast burritos are the Best and a must!!!

Sadly this place had fairly good reviews but was lacking in service, taste and value. The salsa was watery like tomato juice, the food itself was sadly below par lacking seasoning and unfresh. read more

Just moved to a new house about 10 blocks away, gone in a number of times already for food and/or beer on tap. Manager, Jorge, is a really good guy and so is the staff. Today, met some other dude with ties to the owners who basically told me I could not hang out and watch the finals of the World Cup without ordering something. It kinda sucks but that's the last time I step foot in this restaurant. They just cost themselves probably $150 a month in revenue. The dude must have taken a coarse in "how to loss a customer" Oh. .....As far as the food -- I've tried the Machaca with eggs for breakfast and had their green chili as well. Have been here four times over the last month- new to the area and it's the closest Mexican food to our house. The first three times were very disappointing for food and service. The first time, we weren't given chips, waitress didn't know what beers were available, and the food was bland. Asked for hot sauce and it never came. The next two times the food was a bit better, but still lacking in the service. Tonight was the first time I can say I wouldn't question going back for more. The food was much more flavorful and service was great. Every time we have come, the waitresses have no idea what beer is on tap or if it is available. Their windows advertise rotating taps, but we have found nothing changes- besides what is unavailable. Good place close to home, kid friendly. read more

We've been to this place numerous times. The service is usually slow and not good, but we usually like the food. But this last time we had made the decision not to return and do not recommend it, which is unfortunate. We went in on Mother's Day at 3:15 and it was not busy. That's why we waited to eat later. It took us 25 minutes to get chips and salsa. 45 minutes to get food. I can't remember how long on our drinks. The food was wrong. And my husband got up several times to ask for service. I'd say there were 10 tables of people. Not busy. Rather than ever apologizing for bad service and continuing crazy, the waitress kept arguing with my husband about everything. He asked to talk to a manager. They had no manager on duty on a holiday??? So odd. She kept saying it was busy, but it was not even busy. Very few tables. I'm sure it was a busy day. It was a holiday. Be prepared. But we cane later. The food was nothing to brag about. But there should have been a manager on duty. Anyway, my husband later called the manager. Rather than ever apologizing for anything, he simply became rude, condescending and argumentative, just like his waitress! So, my husband just said he would let Yelp know in case others were getting this kind of treatment. It's very sad that customer service has become such a war for the customer. We spent almost $75 there, and it was the worst service ever. Both my daughter and I were once servers and both of us trained servers. So, we know bad service and this was the worst. So, pick another Mexican place. Go to On the Borders or ElMex Kal. They treat you with respect. No place that is disrespectful should be rewarded. read more

Walked in at 7:30 pm and took a seat at the bar. Maybe 12 people in the entire restaurant. Watched one waitress on her phone for five minutes, and another more interested In a soccer game than her customers. I Waited 10+ minutes to have the waitress tell me I needed to wait by the door to be seated ? There was not a single person at the bar. I am a local and will take my business elsewhere. This is my third time here with the same questionable service and mediocre food. Do yourself a favor and take your business to one of the other great places in Berthoud. read more

Stopped for a beer with hubby and juat sat in bar which had wall to wall windows and view of corner street. Ordered beef taquitos (shredded) very good size 4 of them with yummy guac, sour cream and pico de gaio (sp?) Great and only $7. Chips veryvgoos but salsa bland. Good bartender. read more

Carnitas - that's my measure of a decent Mexican restaurant. If a place doesn't even serve carnitas, I've found I rarely like their food. The carnitas here were quite good - flavorful and a good texture. The supporting flavors were fresh. The service was attentive and fast. For a local Mexican restaurant, this was overall good. Horrible horrible service. Mediocre food. They charge for refills, for chips and salsa, for every little condiment you ask for. Couldn't even get them to bring us some ketchup. The server Jorge is rude and very slow. Ended up waiting 30 minutes for them to take our order and then another 45 for them to bring the food. During which the refused to bring any chips and salsa. Never heard of a Mexican restaurant that seriously charges for that. Seeing as that's my favorite part of going out for Mexican, we just won't go to this restaurant any more. read more

This is quite possibly of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. Upon arrival, we waited 15 minutes after we were seated to get our drink order, and another 15 for them to come. We ordered some queso dip and when it finally came it tasted like melted shredded cheese and not like what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. Great Mexican Food, and a fantastic patio for dining in the warmer months. The bar area is open and friendly. The service has always been courteous. We're taking our whole small business here in a week for our holiday party. I do agree with another reviewier that the margaritas could be stronger - but that doesn't stop us from frequenting this ultra convenient local watering hole! Stopped on a whim at 4:30, very hungry. My wife and I ordered chimis and $3.49 sodas. Salsa was lacking in spice but fresh and gave us extra bowl. Food was fresh and hot, pretty good. Each had a refill on soda. Green Chili(medium) had good flavor but could have used a little more. Service was good, building is old but quaint. Went to get a burrito for dinner to go so I could enjoy it at home. When I ordered asked if I got some chips and salsa with it. Was told that it would cost $5:00. When waiter brought out my food I asked to see menu again. I opened it to where it says on the bottom of menu That chips and salsa are complementary but any extra would be an extra charge. I asked why would you charge me just cause I'm taking it, replied that is policy. I explained that I'm still paying for the same meal whether I am here or at home. Again was told it's policy. This makes no sense. All other similar restaurants it would come with chips and salsa. Will not be back. read more

Took forever to get our food. Horrible margarita! When we finally did get our food I didn't not get my sour cream and can't tell you how long it took to get our water refilled. We took advantage of the margarita special, the first one was ok tasted like it came from a typical mix. The second one came filled halfway, tasted very sugary and seemed to be from the bottom of the barrel. When we complained about it our server seemed put off and said she would speak to a manager. We were expecting it to be taken off our bill cause we didn't even drink it. The server said we could get it discounted! Really a $3 marg what did they do take 50 cents off?! They also have you pay on a tablet so you can't even see your bill. It's a cute house and nice location but will not be back read more

Went there for dinner. The food was bland. I ordered chicken enchiladas and not even sure there was chicken in there. Everything was lacking texture and flavor. My dinner companion ordered the rellenos which were undercooked and the peppers had not been cleaned properly before stuffing. The only highlight to the meal was the hot sauce I requested which is made in house. The sauce was the only thing that added flavor to the bland. The service was horrible. It wasn't busy and yet we waited a long time to get someone to take our drink orders, our food orders and to get the check. Mi Cocina is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Berthoud! They cover all our staples, delicious green chili, guacamole, and margaritas! The breakfast burrito sold out of the side door in the mornings are delicious and cheap. read more
