(Get the Mexicali loaded fries) I had a soy chorizo vegetarian burrito with sweet potatoes, caramelized onions, rice soy chorizo,cotija, creama , AND cilantro all wrapped into a fresh whole wheat tortilla. The burrito was huge so you can easily share or save half for leftovers. Though the burrito was great I was feeling like tripling up on the carbs and also had loaded mexicali fries and these were my favorite.. Cocina Cilantro is exactly the type of restaurant I love to frequent and see succeed. It's a small space tucked into the busy Brand boulevard dishing up organic, non-GMO fare and grass-fed meats, but in a fast casual setting. I stopped by with a couple of coworkers and we all had a similar sentiment after finishing our meal--super fresh food, could be great, but we were left a little underwhelmed. I ordered the Grass-fed Carne Asada bowl. Firstly, impressed guac comes included at no extra charge (who does that in LA!?). It was reminiscent of a homemade Chipotle burrito bowl. The only thing lacking for me was seasoning--the steak was pretty bland which is unfortunate because it was cooked perfectly. Also, as I made my way through my meal, I ended up finding an entire avocado pit--I guess there's a first for everything! Another item that caught my eye was the Almond Horchata. This drink is what had me speed walking to lunch at 11:30am. It was as delicious and comforting as the more traditional rice versions. Decent food, bad customer service My mom and I just moved to Glendale from across the country, we had spent the last several days doing moving in things and wanted to get some food nearby. Glendale has a lot of food so we decided to try something new. We walk in and and there's no customers, my mom and I the only customers. The man behind the register was very rude. Made sarcastic comments about hurrying up to make a decision, huffed, rolled his eyes. Then when the food-to-go came out, he did not walk it out to my mom and I sitting at one of the tables, he instead set it on the counter by the register and then went to the back. I've worked in retail, and food and have been the person taking the order behind the register. This customer service was bad. Felt like I was burden on his time. We opted for the chicken bowl and a carne asada taco with an almond horchata. The bowl is more so of a plate and over salted taco chicken. If it were 6.95 over the 8.95 it would have been fine. The carne asada taco is a great portion but the asada meat was of a raw texture and raw meat flavour. No marinade just raw meat taste The almond horchata is where it's at! Although it might have shared a paddle with the cucumber mint a few to many times as the flavours were compromised. I had the beet tostada to start. Sounds weird but it was surprisingly so good! It had a creamy avocado sauce on top too and the flavors were really good together The lengua and soy-chorizo tacos are also a MUST try! The lengua is cooked perfectly and the soy-chorizo has sweet potato in it which made the perfect pairing. And they overstuff their quesadillas if u order it with protein which I LOVE! And last but not least is the churros for dessert. We couldn't decide what we wanted so he gave us some great recommendations. My boyfriend and I ordered a carne asada bowl, the Mexicali fries, and I got their Hibiscus tea. We were afraid that it wouldn't be enough food for us, but boy were we wrong!! The portions were huge, and it all cost less than $20. I have no complaints about the food. Everything came out quickly and it was all so delicious. The Mexicali fries were to die for, definitely recommend getting those. I absolutely loved the hibiscus tea, it wasn't too sweet and it was really refreshing. We were able to finish the bowl and almost half of the Mexicali fries, but by then we were stuffed, so we took the fries home as leftovers:) I'm not one to typically order dessert, but they had a churro trio that looked intriguing, so we decided to give that a try. OH MY GOODNESS, BEST CHURROS I HAVE EVER HAD. They were so delicious! The trio included original, Bavarian cream, and caramel churros, and they were topped with Nutella and a cream sauce. Food here is fresh DAILY, prepared individually, not in advance. Everything tastes just like it was made at home. The selection of drinks they have there: strained watermelon juice, cucumber with mint, and the horchata. Are made daily. This is like the gem in the city. I discovered this restaurant at some point during the pandemic (a year in). Their food is clean and delicious. I got to meet the owner recently and she was great. She was running the restaurant on her own and she was doing it with a smile! If you haven't tried them yet, check them out. I don't see why there's so much negativity towards this place. This place is 10X better than chipotle. The portion is perfect! The food is fresh, but not 100% authentic. The meat is delicious, the beans are good, lettuce is crunchy, the salsa is spicy. I'm Mexican, so I know a little of authenticity of Mexican food, and they seem to pass, even their horchata gears towards authentic Mexican drinks. I dont know why they are only one $ sign, when it should be a two $$ sign to enjoy yourself a good lunch. Easy 14 dollars for lunch. This is probably one of the best hidden gems of Glendale - omg! The photos make it look like a Chipotle style fast food place when it's really a Whole Foods healthy and delicious place. Let me start off by saying this is (obviously) not authentic in any way-- it's white-washed to the core. I had the pork tacos that came with pickled onions, which I was very excited about. DO NOT GET THIS ITEM TO-GO. It fell apart. It came with a lot of meat, which can be seen as a good thing, except it was too salty. I couldn't even get through one taco. I tried taking some of the meat out, which didn't help. I also would've appreciated if the onions were a little more pickled, but to be fair I love pickled things. Also, the pork tasted like American bbq. I thought this was a Mexican place? As for the vegetarian food, my boyfriend for the soy chorizo burrito. It was also very promising but fell a little short. It was just too bland for our liking. As for the complimentary salsa, it was also a little bland. I would've appreciated a little more heat, but the demographic for this place probably prefers blander foods. Overall, it is a nice and clean place with a promising menu with options for vegetarians and meat-eaters, but it's mediocre at best. Have eaten here several times. It is a good alternative to greasy Mexican food options. I got the bowl and it had a fair amount of food in it. The only thing I don't like is the parking around here! Each business should have a designated spot or two in my opinion but if you don't mind the parking, definitely recommend this, at least one time to give it a try.
