    Caesar salad
    Linda K.

I was doing laundry around the corner and decided to grab something to eat since I'd be there for a few hours. This place popped up, so I ordered fries and a Caesar salad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's not the best-looking place -- definitely more of a mom-and-pop spot -- but the food surprised me![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will be back to try other options. The fries were so good, super crispy, and they gave a really generous portion. I think there might've been a mix-up with the salad dressing -- it seemed more like an Italian olive oil dressing instead of Caesar -- but it still tasted pretty good, light and flavorful.

Absolutely loved the food at World Cafe! The sandwich was a 10/10 and the burger was a solid 9. The fries were also delicious! The workers were incredibly nice! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The outdoor seating had a heater and music playing and it felt incredibly cozy to be here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely would come back! Especially because they told us they're adding way more options to their menu soon! Can't wait to try more :)

Food was great (massive serving for what you pay). I had the burger and it did not disappoint. If you are anywhere near LA, I'd suggest taking a quick drive to try the food. Small business with quality ingredients and hometown feeling service. I'm from the Bay Area, and when I come next, I'll be sure to visit.

Very small, very good for a quick passing-by bite on the fly. The Philly Steak sandwich was wonderful, prepared in front of my eyes, with fresh and crispy bread. Mmmh, perfect for what it was!

SO DELICIOUS! Found this gem on Yelp and it did not disappoint. Every bite was full of flavor, and the pickles are amazing! Outdoor seating available, friendly staff.

Hungry. Looking for food. Friend suggests World Cafe. I'm always game to try new places. Always. This is the way. The fatty way. First - follow the instructions. Don't blink. You'll pass it up. Street parking. On Verdugo. And on California. Small lot in back. Don't know if it's for the laundromat only. Check signage. No table service. Order. Find a seat. Probably outdoors. Small counter inside. Good for three. Maybe four people. Outdoor covered seating. Again, no table service. Need something - go to the counter. Though no service - staff (cashier + cook), so friendly. So nice. Not sure if they're the owners. So, on to the food ... Ordered a Chicken Burger (with mushrooms & cheese) + fries. Plus a Roast Beef Sandwich. See pics. Free drink with Yelp check in. Got a Coke. So delicious. So good. Ingredients just hit the spot. The special sauce added to the flavor. Was skeptical of the Yelp rating. Always nice when the ratings are spot on.

Delicious roast beef sandwich with an exotic twist! Their roast beef alone is already good, but they added onions, parsley, cucumber and spices which makes it a delight on every bite. The dip is just right for both the sandwich and fries. Only order the fries when you're really hungry, because the portion is pretty big. Overall it's a hearty meal combo and the price reflects it. Oh and they no longer honor the check in free soda.

I was starving and had been craving a tostada salad for years, so we stopped at Foxy's, a place I'd been going to off and on since the 80s. Both Maria and I ordered the chicken tostada salad, and what arrived was incredibly disappointing.!!! The chicken was bland, tasted like frozen chicken with fake grill marks, and there was barely any of it. The salad itself was mostly lettuce and baby spinach. Seriously, who the hell puts baby spinach in a tostada salad? We were so dissatisfied with those salads that we told the waitress to take them back because we didn't want them. The waitress, who was also the cashier, suggested that we order something else instead. Maria ordered a cheeseburger that came with fries. Since she used to come to Foxy's about 20 years ago when her kids were in junior high, and because she knows I like carne asada burritos, she suggested I order the carne asada burrito because she remembered them being huge back then. Well, not anymore. The burrito was much smaller than what she remembered, and after I took literally one tiny bite just to taste it, I immediately noticed bell peppers in it. Wtf? What kind of idiot puts bell peppers in a carne asada burrito? I asked Maria if they used to put bell peppers in them years ago, and she immediately said no. Maria tasted it herself and was disgusted by it too. When I say I barely touched it, I mean it. I literally took one small taste, Maria barely had a bite herself, and there was still approximately seven-eighths of that burrito left sitting on the plate. To top it all off, the burrito also came with stale-ass tortilla chips! Since I couldn't stomach the salad or the burrito, I ended up eating only half of Maria's dry, tasteless, cardboard-like cheeseburger and exactly four fries because by that point I was disgusted with the entire meal. The final bill came to $41.90. I'm on a fixed income. Paying $41.90 for half of a dry cheeseburger, four fries, and food we barely touched because it was so bad is frustrating enough. Being asked whether I wanted to take home a box for a burrito that still had seven-eighths left felt downright insulting. No thank you. I don't take home food that I thought was crap! When I was paying, I told the waitress/cashier, "I wish I could speak to your manager." She told me he was right there, but I explained that I was already going to be late for my doctor's appointment and didn't want to have to reschedule until next week. I spend three days a week at dialysis and use my other days for specialist appointments and medical visits, so my schedule is already difficult enough to manage. I told her I would call the manager when I got home. When I finally spoke with the manager later, he asked me, "Why didn't you tell them you didn't like it? They would have taken it off the bill." That response left me confused because the waitress already knew exactly how dissatisfied we were from the moment the salads went back untouched. She knew we rejected them. She knew we ordered replacement meals because of them. She knew I barely touched the burrito. She knew Maria disliked it too. She knew there was almost an entire burrito left sitting on the plate. If taking it off the bill was an option, why wasn't that offered at the time? Why wasn't there an offer for a discount, partial credit, or some kind of accommodation? At the very least, after watching customers send back meals and barely touch the replacements, comping a dessert to go would have been a nice gesture. This experience was disappointing from beginning to end, especially because I remembered Foxy's so fondly from years ago. Ewww!! Never again!!!!

The dim lighting, bamboo, vintage Polynesian decor, hanging canoes, glowing tiki lamps, aquarium, and old-school island soundtrack make this one of the coolest dining rooms in Los Angeles. It's nostalgic in the best way, and honestly, the atmosphere alone is worth experiencing once. It's easy to see why Damon's has become such a Glendale institution since 1937. Unfortunately, that's where the experience peaked for me. We started with the potato skins, which were fine--crispy enough, loaded with cheese and bacon--but they felt like something you'd find at Chili's or TGI Fridays. Good, just not memorable. The famous house salad was fresh, but again... nothing that really stood out. For entrees we ordered the Rib Cap and the Sirloin & Shrimp. The rib cap had decent flavor, but for a premium cut I expected more tenderness and a bigger wow factor. The sirloin was cooked properly, the shrimp were fine, and the sautéed spinach was actually one of the better parts of the meal. Overall though, nothing tasted bad--it just never rose above "solid chain steakhouse" quality. The cocktails were probably the biggest surprise. In a place built around tiki culture, I expected drinks that transported me. Instead they were just... okay. Perfectly drinkable, but lacking the punch and creativity you'd hope for from such an iconic tiki destination. Reading through other reviews afterward, it seems I'm not alone. Most people absolutely love Damon's for its atmosphere, history, and nostalgic charm, while opinions on the food tend to be much more mixed. Many longtime guests return because the experience is unique, even if the menu hasn't evolved much over the years. Bottom line: Come for the atmosphere. Come for the history. Come because it's one of Southern California's classic tiki restaurants. Just don't come expecting one of LA's best steakhouses. Damon's feels like dinner inside an enchanted Disney tiki attraction, but the food and drinks never quite match the magic of the room. If they elevated the menu and cocktail program to the same level as the atmosphere, this place could easily become one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. As it stands, it's a destination worth visiting--just set your expectations accordingly.

Primarily known for its inventive craft cocktails and a killer whiskey selection, it was a nice place to sneak away into before or after your main event... or, maybe this could be the place to spend an entire evening. Would this bar famously make an impression on me to remember to return in the future!? PURCHASE(S) Fremont Brewing Dark Star Double Oatmeal Imperial Stout Beer 8.00% ABV 16floz Draft ($6.00 HH; Reg. $9.00): Dark brown color, coffee oatmeal roasty aroma, medium body, chocolate coffee oatmeal roasty toasty flavor, mouthfeel smooth finish, and coffee oatmeal roasty toasty aftertaste. This was a really tasty brew and my favorite of the two! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=ad_C9YTJYF9lVr2FOEQLkg 12" Margherita Pizza ($20.00 HH; Reg. $26.00): A simple pizza with a somewhat thin crust that was kind of cardboardy, the flavor was rather pedestrian with chewy mozzarella although the basil was fragrant and fresh. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=kdkvUttCLmMOAGQ1nyp5tg Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Danish Red Amber Lager Beer 5.50% ABV 16floz Draft ($5.00 HH; Reg. $8.00): Dark amber red color, malty allspice aroma, low body, malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and malty sweet aftertaste. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=QQjsTWce5Lstcxj5PowrYw Steak Fries ($7.00 HH; Reg. $9.00): This was an impulse buy as something to pair with my second beer. A decent portion-sized snack, each spud stick was hot, steaming, and thick and came with a side of ketchup. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=GVoy0nzxFUL6rHWaxNdG7Q SERVICE We were warmly greeted by a sole young woman behind the bar who handed us a menu and directed us to sit anywhere. After a few minutes of reviewing the menu, we each placed our order at the bar, our drinks were delivered quickly while the food took mere minutes to arrive at the table. We had to approach the bar each time we ordered something, but any empty glasses and plates were collected at the table. Once we closed out our tabs, we were thanked for coming as we headed out into the night. Everything was chill and easy - thank you! PARKING (Varied; FREE this instance): I parked in the nearby original Glendale Galleria parking structure and simply walked over first to The Americana then to this place. Otherwise, there was limited parking along the main drag of Brand Blvd. and other surrounding side streets, the nearby Glendale Galleria II parking structure, The Americana parking structure that offered validation, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A dark cavernous speakeasy-like place with open space, various tables and couches strewn about, and a large long somewhat decorative bar with an impressive whiskey selection displayed behind it. I appreciated the exposed brick walls which gave it that old-time feel with a few framed pictures hung on them. Minimal natural lighting came through the front doors and windows while minimal electric ceiling lights filled in rest. There was at least one projection TV where we watched the Dodgers game while music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=SomLKsk1KVcemeOCHGOZfg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL It was nice to slip into The Famous Bar for the first time in over a decade, and if I found myself spending time in downtown Glendale again, I'd consider another visit. Sadly, I try to avoid the highly congested area as much as possible. I loved the fact that they had a daily happy hour (4pm-7pm) and late-night SU-TH happy hours (10:30pm-close), so there was always a deal to be found. The drinks were the main reason you came, while the food was just an add-on. The prices were elevated, but you had a good menu selection of libations (nice local craft beer list) to choose from. The customer service was easy, friendly, and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $42.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...
