I really love to come here with my family, whether it is for breakfast or lunch. this last time that I was there, however, I was really bothered. when we came in, the restaurant was so loud. you couldn't hear if anyone had greeted you or not. when we finally found someone who worked there, alth0ugh I can't say that I blame them for not knowing we were there, we asked them if there were a wait and if not, where we should/could sit. they had to basically take us by the hand to lead us to a table. the music that was playing inside was so loud that no one could hear each other. and yet even with this difficulty, the manager did nothing about it. I think he was the manager anyway, maybe he was the owner. I don't knot but I did not enjoy my experience here. I couldn't ask for anything from our server. they couldn't hear me. I tried pointing at certain things on the menu but when I had to make decisions about the type of meat that I preferred or the type of tortillas that I wanted, it was almost impossible to do so. it was so loud that I couldn't even talk to my husband who was sitting just a fork and knife's distance away from me. this was terrible. we literally weren't able to say a word to one another. ugh! the food is still delicious. service was lacking this time but that was because the music was deafening and sign language wasn't working. parking is free but the lot does fill up quickly. I'll still come back but this last time was NOT it and I hope I don't have to endure that kind of painfully high volume again next time. read more

So I stopped by here since I was doing maintenance for my car, and happy to say this place did not disappoint. I was here during breakfast time and decided to get their huevos rancheros. They were so flavorful and very decently priced as well. My breakfast came with some chips and salsa and tortillas on the side, which a choice of either corn or flour. The service was excellent as well, all the staff were super nice and actually helped me pick between the different breakfast items they had. Food also came out really quick, I probably wasn't waiting for more than 5 minutes for my order to come out. Overall I was really happy with my visit. Even though they're a little far from where I live, I'll make it a point to come back and try their other dishes as well. read more

This is a little gem hidden in a small shopping center at the edge of Glendale . Had the huevos rancheros and they were awesome . We came on a Sunday morning and they were getting busy. Staff was friendly and attentive. Gotta give props to the crunchy tacos combo (just like Mom's, very crunchy and slightly greasy). The rice is tasty and fluffy. Wow...Tucked in a small, strip mall next to Vons, we found this gem or a restaurant. I always see it when I park when I go to Vons or the Dollar Store, but never stopped in to try it. Pictures are one thing but the taste is phenomenal! I got the carnitas wet burrito and my wife got the taco platter. With a side of radish, deep fried jalapeños and lemon wedges...You couldn't ask for anything more! Even beer for $3.99 a bottle! If there is anything about my visit that I was not fond of was the taste of the refried beans. Maybe it was just me, but they didn't taste like traditional beans cooked in lard. If u have the time it seems like a very nice place to dine in at, their menu options are really good! Chilaquiles are usually hit or miss but this place was amazing! Beans were so good, rice was so good, Egg was cooked perfectly runny, and chilaquiles were yummy! I do wish that the chips were a little more crunchier but that's what I get for ordering ahead of time. I was so happy El Ruby Cafe was open on Christmas Day. My brother and I wanted to take my mom out for lunch on Christmas and out of everything she could have picked she wanted Mexican. Mexican is my favorite so I had no complaints. But what Mexican place will be open on Christmas day? And she wanted to go somewhere in Glendale near forest lawn law where my father is buried. I called several places and no one answered. I was planning on giving up and want to convince my mom to pick another type of food. So then I saw El Ruby Cafe, took a chance and gave them a call, they answered quickly and said yes they are open. My brother and I met my mom at the restaurant. small little hole in the wall family owned which I completely love. Crowded, with lots of friendly faces and mouthwatering smells. I ordered Menudo, my brother ordered Caldo De Res and my mom beef enchilada's. Ssssooo delicious!! The Menudo was full of flavor, good pieces of tripe and tendon. Love it with the oregano, onion, cilantro and chili flakes. My brother enjoyed his Caldo de Res, lots of vegetables and really good rib meat. My mom loved her beef enchiladas. The single star is because the food was inedible and went into the trash. I ordered an egg and chorizo burrito and took it to work. It looked fine, but the chorizo was burnt. Not charred. Burnt. The beans were a very weird consistency and the "eggs" were weirdly runny and curdled looking. Maybe they weren't eggs, just some yellow gunk down the middle of the burrito. I've been searching and searching for a good really authentic Mexican restaurant in the Glendale area since I come out here a lot. I was looking for not only authentic but good tasting like my mom's food. This place is soooo good. The rice is the best, the beans are also very tasty. I had birria de Chivo. It was amazing. They gave me salsa Rojas and verde. Delicious. I ate the whole thing. Their coffee is real cafe de olla. Taste so good. Cinnamony. This will be my spot. I came to this little plaza to do my laundry with my best friend on a late Saturday morning and decided to stop in to have a machaca burrito. The food was excellent, the prices were more than reasonable, and we were greeted with a friendly smile and an "of course" to all my requests, by the friendly clerk/server! The restaurant was very clean, with fun colorful seasonal decorations hanging on the walls and ceiling. There were plenty of seats and the atmosphere was lively with sports on TVs and music playing. Just an update , this place is still great . They offer out door seating now too , which is awesome . I just enjoyed a nice cold Michelada with my dad outside under the shade . I remember going to El Ruby as an elementary student in the early 1960's when I lived in Southern Glendale. It was a larger restaurant then, and it served the best salsa fresca I have ever eaten with hints of garlic, cilantro, and oregano in a sweet, spicy, thick tomato sauce . The tacos deshebrada had stringy, beefy tasting meat with crumbles of excellent cotija cheese. I went back to El Ruby almost 40 years later. The old time restaurant was gone, and in its place was a small strip mall, but El Ruby's was still there. The older lady who ran it said she worked at the El Ruby of old. The salsa had changed, but the taco deshebrada was still intact. The older lady retired sometime in 2003 or so, and so I hope the new cooks are carrying the torch. This tiny restaurant has great nostalgic value for me. It is the first place where I sampled truly wonderful Mexican cuisine. I have yet to find another northern Mexican restaurant that can equal El Ruby of the 1960's. read more
