A lot of people seem to be comparing this place to Chipotle... maybe bc the bowl kind of looks like a Chipotle bowl? Anyways, I think that's an unfair comparison since Chipotle is a customize-your-own-burrito/bowl/taco/etc. type of place, while Cocina Cilantro is your pre-set burrito, bowl, taco, etc. With that clarification aside, this place is pretty good. The portions aren't the largest, but they are just right. the price point is also relatively moderate--not expensive, and not cheap. I got the carnitas bowl and a side of salsa/chips. The carnitas were tasty in my opinion. I ate all of it and was left with just enough room to go find myself some dessert. :) (Also, note: if you are comparing to Chipotle for quantity and price, the bowls at this place are shallow and are basically like a plate, rather than a bowl. I was in the area and hungry and wandered into this little restaurant. It's a small spot with a handful of inside seating and 1 or 2 outside tables. The inside is super cute and colorful. I ordered a chicken bowl and an almond horchata. The horchata is made with almond milk which was a cool twist. The woman working in the restaurant I think might be the owner, and was running the front and cooking in the back. She was very nice and helpful when I asked questions about the menu. The food was out within 5 minutes after ordering. The chicken in the bowl was really flavorful and cooked well. The only thing that would have been nice is if it came with salsa. Admittedly, I didn't ask and just assumed that there would be salsa in the bag, but when I sat down to eat it later there was none and I'm wondering if it needed to be ordered separately. I'm not sure. The almond horchata was really good. Honestly I would go back and just get that if I were in the area. Came here yesterday and I have to say I wasn't impressed. Located on Brand Blvd. This place disappointed me. I got the free range chicken burrito bowl. The chicken was super dry and I felt that the rice was not cooked I felt some hard pieces when I was eating it. I barely even ate half and tossed the rest. :( I may give this place another try and try their tacos but I won't be going here anytime soon. We ordered food last night to pick up ourselves. We ordered shrimp tacos, loaded mexi cali fires and cheese quesadilla. To be honest the food was nothing special, very basic Mexican food, nothing fancy and tasted so bland. I had very high expectations from a newer location but it was very very basic. Last night being cinco de mayo I walked in around 8 and I was the only one there, there was no other customer. When I told the girl at the cashier about "aqua Fresca" that they have it on their yelp account that you get with yelp check in, she said you only get that if you dine in and order a plate. I don't know if I misunderstood what's written on their yelp or she wasn't willing to offer that. Anyhow, not a big deal but I was not very happy with their food. You get better tasting food at other Mexican fast food places or even taco trucks. read more

Ugh I had high expectations of this place!! We came on a Saturday night and it was empty. Lovely decor, a very fresh and modern concept/vibe. The girl working the register was so so sweet and helpful with her recommendations! You order at the register and go sit down, and they bring out your meal to you. I got three veggie tacos and fiancé got four tacos: soy chorizo, carnitas, carne asada, and chicken. They were out of lengua. We also got loaded fries to share. They load the tacos up pretty well, they definitely don't skimp on filling them. Lots of mushroom and beans in the veggie tacos, but they seemed to lack flavor. My fiancé said his chicken and carne asada tacos also lacked flavor, and the soy chorizo was overpowering. The carnitas taco was his favorite. True to their name, the loaded fries do come pretty loaded. Loved the guac it came with. But the rice doesn't work with the fries, it makes the whole meal too dry and carb-y. We felt like the fries needed more fresh veggies or sauce. I must say that the presentation of the food is excellent but it's one of those "it looks better than it tastes." A lot of potential with this place if they tweak some of the recipes for added flavor. Not authentic Mexican food but not bad either. Prices are average for Glendale, and warranted given the higher equality (grass fed beef, free range chicken, etc.). I prefer more authentic Mexican food so probably wouldn't choose this place next time I'm craving tacos. read more

First time coming here today & let me say, I don't regret it one bit. It's conveniently located on the corner of Brand & California. Parking wasn't too much of a hassle but i can see if you were to get there right in the smack middle of lunch rush or dinner/happy hour, parking can become a bit difficult due to the variety of different restaurants located within the same block. The seating area is pretty intimate. I counted a total of maybe 15-18 indoor seating capacity with maybe 5-8 at max for outdoor seating. The inside was nice. Very dimple & clean. The bathroom wasn't dirty. The door was a bit loud & heavy, handle seemed a bit overworked but nothing that would discount a star from the rating. The food was better than what I expected, flavor wise. As soon as I saw it I was like wow, totally didn't expect it to look this good. & when I took a first bite, i was even more in awe. I've seen people compare it to Chipotle in the reviews, but as someone who finds Chipotle to be disgusting (bad experience), Cocina Cilantro cannot be compared. Chipotle has a very "Subway" style, build-your-own system to it meanwhile Cocina Cilantro doesn't. It has a fixed menu & it can be a good thing if you're someone who gets overwhelmed by variety. Being raised in a Mexican household, I know what great, authentic Mexican food taste, looks & smells like. If you're looking for that here, don't bother. It's not meant to be an authentic Mexican restaurant so don't experto find mole, menudo, pozole, sopes, huaraches or anything of the kind. This place would be like what Panda Express is to traditional Chinese food, Americanized. Nonetheless, that's not to say it's still not very tasteful & healthy. I got the Grass-fed Carne Asada Bowl. The bowl isn't exactly a bowl per say. It's more of an elongated plate with a slightly higher border to keep the food from falling out (think of a long, oval hefty plate you would use for birthday parties). Regardless, it is stacked up high. Not too high of course but the proportion is just enough to fill you up & leave a nice enough wiggle room for dessert if you're up for it. Along with the asada bowl, I did get an agua de Jamaica (checkin on Yelp to get a free agua fresca!) & it wasn't the best tasting agua de Jamaica I had ever tasted, but it wasn't the worst either. I actually quite enjoyed it because it wasn't overwhelming sweet like an authentic agua de Jamaica would be at any other Mexican restaurant. For my personal taste, this was perfect as I'm not a the biggest fan of sweets. Long review short, if you're looking for a Mexican-American restaurant that is healthy, where the food not only tastes great but will keep you full as well as only cost you the 10-15 bucks you have in your pocket, then give this place a try. It's pretty great. BONUS: idk about any of you, but I love my guacamole to have lemon in it & i love to taste the lemon & their guacamole definitely has that lemony taste I very much love so if you like that, definitely give it a try. read more

Parking: 90 min parking on California This is like a fast food american mexican restaurant. It's a small place. You order up front, they have a decent menu with salads, burritos and tacos. Their salads are really delicious and I'm really happy that they soy chorizo tacos. I absolutely love soy chorizo, the first time I had it here, it seemed tastier than the 2nd time I had it.
