Order from here frequently and like to "spread it around." I'm a brisket guy and there's is the best around. Have had the ribs, the "slaw-TER house" burger, and pulled pork all without complaints. Let's be honest, it's a BBQ place... the meats SHOULD be pretty damn good, and they are... what sets them apart are the sides, service, and menu. I'm an Irish kid, so potatoes are pretty important to me. The Joe-Joe's have some sort of magical coating that sets them far above anyplace else in the area. (I'm suspecting some sort of crack, but that's just a hunch!) The cheesy potatoes are simply sublime (Sorry mom, they gotcha beat!) and the hush puppies... oh, the hush puppies. 2 with each dinner plate, are enough to make ya order a few more. The standards are really well done too; baked potato, slaw, and collard greens all are worth their weight! Enough about those though, let's talk about the real showstopper.... fried cheese grits! Again, I'm suspecting these are real grits, cooked to perfection and given to a Southern voodoo queen to concoct a potion of unforgettable crunch and flavor. I imagine it goes something like this, cook grits, apply magic, viola! side dish heaven. My dad, the vegetarian, had no trouble ordering just sides (and taking home a doggie bag!) The people here are amazing, just the right mixture of checking in on the experience with enough "self-serve" options to make it an enjoyable experience. There has not been a time when I was not greeted by an owner. However, I can also say I wouldn't know the difference between the "owners and employees." I think this speaks volumes about the way the place is run. The menu itself does not appear to be that large, until you start reading it. There is a simplicity to it really makes ordering a breeze. The ability to mix and match makes for the large combination of items. They also keep a small but very well-rounded cooler of unique Pop and microbrews. Any good beer snob (myself included) should find a bottle to their liking. My suspicion is that this place will very quickly outgrow it's surroundings. I hope not, but the word is out... We ordered takeout and everything was awesome! Fried shrimp, pulled pork, turkey, cheesy potatoes, Mac n cheese, and a pulled chicken sandwich. No beating around the bush. I kept hearing word of mouth buzz about Cockeye's. Took the wife, stopped in; was expecting "less" in seatability and dining in capability based on some reviews, but in reality plenty of room, booths, tables and the such. Saturday night, place was buzzin', but our orders were placed promptly.... Place your order, grab your plastic cutlery and whatnot, and have a seat- you're food's brought out to you (also, side note, very helpful pleasant young lady greeting customers at the door, assisting folks with the menu, answering questions, etc) I had the two meat platter (pulled pork and brisket) with cheesy potatoes and fried okra, the missus had a hand held pulled pork......OMG, delish. Okra was fresh, crunchy and not "greasy", the potatoes tasted oh-so home made. My meats were perfect. I haven't had bbq this good in quite a while. AND, glad I only opted for the 2 meat instead of 3, which I was contemplating, as the portions were very generous. One observation, tho, was my wife's pulled pork sandwich, excellent as it was, could have benefited from some more sauce on it. A minor pecadillo, but I'd simply make a note to order some sauce on the side my next trip. And there will be a next trip, as the restaurant definitely merits another round. This is how a business should be run! Cockeye's brings delicious BBQ to the Westside of Warren. The owners are on site and just as pleasant as can be. They care about your experience...a lot and it shows. They also buy locally when possible and genuinely care about their neighbors and city! Pride in what they do and how they do it would be enough to set them apart but their food is beyond amazing. Big helpings, good prices and fantastic food. I am proud to place them up with Warren's best and famous. I have had everything on their menu though not every special, and I can truthfully say I have loved everyone of them. Really good BBQ for this area. Meats (brisket, pulled pork, chicken wings, breaded catfish) were all cooked perfectly with some great smokiness. However, the sauce was a little sweet to our liking, personal preference. The hush puppies were some of the best we've ever had. A hidden gem for great BBQ! Menu has great choices for meats and the sides are just as good! I had the brisket, while it wasn't as smoky flavored as I've had before, it was juicy and great tasting. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my husband and I both ordered 2 meat bbq dinners and the best part was the pickle. The brisket was horribly dry (we did ask for sauce and got about a tablespoon worth) and tasted like it was roasted (not smoked) for minutes ( not hours) in the microwave, the bbq chicken was dramatically flavorless, the ribs were stringy dry and overcooked, the corn casserole was basically crumbled cornbread with extra corn and the coleslaw tasted straight out of a container bought at GFS. We have heard rave reviews for this place for years and finally decided to indulge. Couldn't be more disappointed and let down. Never again. read more

We first heard of this place through a friends Facebook post, we decided that we would try it out. As soon as we walk in, everyone is as friendly as could be! They gave us plenty of time to look at the menu and get our drinks. They also have really cool t-shirts! We ordered so much food and for so cheap! They have very great prices! We celebrated father's day one day early because my dad was going to visit his dad on father's day. He was in the mood for BBQ and wanted something that was close to us and he found this place. It was only about 15-20 minutes away from us. We decided to try it. First the parking lot was just redone by the looks of it and so there are no lines marking where to park. It's also a fairly small lot. We walked in and it's a fairly small place with some seating. It is not a sit down and order from a wait staff sort of place. It is an order at the counter and if you sit in dining they are supposed to bring it out to you or you stand around and wait for them to call your number. They have a small menu which is fine. I don't remember seeing the prices for their canned/bottled beverages anywhere, so we did not know how much we paid for our drinks until after we got the receipt. I know for sure they were not on the menu. They do let you have unlimited water, I think. It could have been iced tea or lemonade that you pour into a cup. I can't really remember. In any case the prices for them were pretty much what I expected them to be. Anyway, my mom decide to have a fried chicken sandwich and fries, I decided on their Pitmaster burger with fries, and my dad got a cup of Brunswick stew, baked beans, and the chopped brisket sandwich. My dad enjoyed his meal. My opinion was that they could have added a little more brisket to his sandwich and the side of baked beans could have been a little bigger. To me it looked like just two scoops and they were gone. The stew was a perfect portion and he said he liked it. It's because of this they get 1 star at all. My moms' sandwich had two chicken tenders, which were not all that big. I believe I saw two slices of tomato, which were perfect size, and some lettuce. We asked for no mayo because she isn't too crazy about mayo. She said her bun was cold, as in just thawed from freezer, and the chicken was not as hot as she expected it to be. I believe she said it was luke warm. Now, my buns were pretty much the same as hers. I expected thin burger, it was a 1/4 pounder after all, but it was supposed to have brisket on top. I got one small slice of brisket. It was topped with a fair amount of thin crispy onions and BBQ sauce. It had cheese on it as well. The sauce was all I tasted. If I hadn't seen the small slice of brisket I never would have known it was there. All I tasted was sauce. It was not worth $8.99. Now to the fries. They came out in a bag. The amount of fries was perfect if not for the fact they were soggy/limpy as heck. The only good thing about them was that they were not overly salty. My family does not use/eat a lot salt. I saw a couple of people com into the dining area after they placed their order. The one woman behind the counter saw them and told them their order was up and the man got up to get their order even though it should have been brought out to them. Either they are regulars or this place is very inconsistent because it was another 5 minutes before our order was brought out to us and we got there before them. I wonder if our order was sitting at the counter waiting for us to pick it up before someone realized they should have brought it out to us. Don't tell us you're going to bring it out to us if you expect us to pick it up. On the bottom of their receipt it says "slow food...fast!". That was not my experience. One last note before I end this review. About half an hour later I started to feel sick. I'm not sure if it was because it was extremely hot and humid that day or the food, but I certainly will not be going back. If my dad wants to he is on his own. read more

I'm not a BBQ expert by all means but coming from Missouri I had my fair share of BBQ in my life and with that being said, the BBQ ribs plate that I ordered was decent. I did order it to-go so maybe the food being in the to-go box could've played a factor in it, but the meat was a little dry and the BBQ sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. I also ordered a side of Hush Puppies (yummy) and Cajun Fries which the fries reminds me of Five Guys, a bit saggy if you're into that style.
