The food is well made and unique. The pastries and bread are delicious. I have been going to CoCo' s since they opened and the service has progressively been worse every time. This summer I took my two young children to get a cinnamon roll before we went blueberry picking. I ordered two cinnamon rolls a coffee and two milks. I asked for a side of butter thinking it would be good with the cinnamon roll. I went and sat around the corner with my children where there is a partition separating the dining room from the kitchen. As I sat with my children I heard the woman who took my order making fun of me for ordering a side a butter to another employee. I sat there with my children and listened to them laugh at me. I didn't eat the butter or the cinnamon roll as I was so disgusted and upset. I wish I would have stood up for myself that day. I gave them another chance on Apple Fest weekend. The woman with the curly hair nearly plowed over my Brother In Law and yelled, "Behind!" in his ear. He was holding his young son and had to jump out of her way. That behavior is acceptable in a kitchen, but not in a crowded dining room with customers. When we got up to the counter to order the same woman that nearly ran us over took our order and was extremely rude. I am hoping for a culture change or a turn in staff next season. I would like to go back because of the great food, but the service needs to significantly improve. read more

We love Coco's baked goods (and soups! and sandwiches!) and make a point to stop for breakfast, lunch, or snacks whenever we are in the area. When I started thinking about a wedding cake for our tiny wedding this fall, I really wanted it to come from Coco's. Coco's is a gem! From start to finish it is adorable and cozy. The atmosphere here is just great. There are plants in the windowsills and local artists' work is displayed on the walks. I especially loved the mismatched chairs-I think my travel companion grew weary of my commenting on how cute they are. We were told that when in the area this is THE place to go for breakfast and we should definitely try a frittata, because they are amazing. We were in the area (staying in Ashland) for a weekend of hiking different state and national parks and we ended up having breakfast here all three days and loving it more each time!! Day 1 we both got the "toad in the hole" with fruit. It was fine, but not mind-blowing. Day 2 we ordered the vegetarian frittata and the french toast with bananas and carmel. The french toast was delicious, but you better enjoy sweets for breakfast because this will really satisfy your sweet-tooth. Day 3 we ordered a frittata again and a breakfast sandwich. Both were phenomenal. We had fruit, toast and bacon as sides and nothing was lacking in any way. Each day we also got some bakery items for the road and we were excited to see that the selection changed each day! We tried everything from bacon & cheddar scones to raspberry kolaches, key lime pie, and lemon bobkes (definitely my fave!!). If you're in the area, this is not to be passed up! read more

It was as they say. Fantastic tasting food. My guy had the toad in a hole, which is two over East eggs inside their homemade cheddar bread, and it was good. Comes with two sides and for him it was three pieces of bacon and two big sausage patties. I had the cinnamon toast French toast with the honey cream cheese inside. It comes with syrup. It was great! Didn't need more than a drop or two of syrup! Also got the incredible Asiago bialy with a pesto-tasting filling in the top and a blueberry turnover. All of it was memorable and repeatable! If I ever come up here again this will be number 1 or 2 repeatable culinary experience. read more

Walked in on a chilly October Monday morning to be enveloped in the warm smell of fresh baked bread and pastries -it made my day! Got a yummy large coffee and a steaming apple turnover, then a loaf of Polish Rye on our return visit. Tons of pastries, a wonderful selection of homemade breads and a case full of fresh sandwiches (one veggie!), cakes, pies and other sweet treats. There's basic counter service, a few small tables for siting inside and some adirondack chairs outside for when it's not so cold. Was excited to try a local joint while visiting for a kayaking trip. We ordered our food and sat at a table and waited for over 20 minutes for our food. While I was waiting, I inquired about a refill on my lemonade, which I sucked down during the wait. I got a "no." As I walked back to my table I grumbled "you'll make me wait 20 minutes for my food, but you can't give me a refill?" An employee, looked like a teen delivering food, overheard. She came back with a new glass of lemonade and placed it in front of me with a loud thud and walked away, not even looking at me. My husband looked at me like "what the heck was that?" I thought the food was good, but this incident left a poor taste in our mouths. read more

Highly recommended, and largely overrated. First morning we had a frittata and a caramel pecan bun. Frittata was good. The "artisinal" bakery was white bread with caramel sauce spooned on it. The server had the personality of someone on lithium. Tried it one more time for benefit of doubt. Asked a much friendlier server about the 3 rye breads. Went with the one with caraway seeds as we love that. Back at hotel for seeded rye and smoked fish and not a seed to be found. Basically Beefsteak rye. Finally, the clientele was as one would expect at an "artisinal" joint - pretentious new money and nova hipster self-absorbed. This place is right out of Portlandia - a parody of itself. read more

This was a happy stop on our long road trip. The baked goods here are legit. It's not "Well, it's good for a tourist town", it's just actually good. If you are GF with a sweet tooth, Coco even has gluten-free brownies and chocolate chip cookies! I just wish the brownies didn't have nuts, oh well. We grabbed an apple turnover to go and a slice of vanilla bean cheesecake with dark chocolate ganache for the drive home. Both were quality and delicious. The sandwiches and daily soup selections all looked good, as well as several varieties of bread on display. The Valrhona flourless torte looked so decadent! And, if I wasn't about to go off wheat (sigh), I would have been excited about the locally milled whole wheat flour that they sell at the counter. The only reason this bakery doesn't rate 5 stars for me is that the space feels a little spartan, with somewhat harsh lighting, making it not quite as cozy as it could be. read more

My family and I stopped by Coco's Bakery on our way out of Bayfield. I love a good sandwich/bakery combo since it means excellent sandwich bread and a delicious dessert! We ordered a turkey pesto sandwich, as well as a roast beef "bento" meal with a Mediterranean salad. My father reported that the turkey pesto sandwich was good, with soft bread and a nice sauce. The roast beef sandwich had good bread, but the meat was cooked to be well-done, which made it a bit dry. The Mediterranean salad had bowtie pasta with tomatoes and feta, which was light and a good complement to the more hearty sandwich. For dessert, we ordered chocolate chip cookies and a pumpkin-shaped sugar cookie. My preference for chocolate chip cookies is more thick and soft, so this more thin, hard cookie was not my favorite. However, the pumpkin-shaped sugar cookie was out of this world! I wish I'd bought more of them...yum. The cookie was soft and had a hint of lemon. Overall, a great place that I would definitely stop at again on my way through Bayfield! read more

Helpful hints, when you enter find a menu and step to the counter and order. They will bring the food out to you. They also "hint" that you are to bus your own table which was perfectly fine with me. If this place were located in a metropolis (Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Chicago) the prices would demand to be at least double what they charge here and the owners would be local celebs. I want to start with saying the food was very very good and the fresh bread was delicious too. Apart from the food my experience was not the best. I left feeling very unsatisfied. We waited for ever for our food, people who ordered after us ate and left a long time before we got our food. When I complained the waitress was extremely rude and not apologetic at all. I was not expecting much from a small town bakery, but once again, I have been disproven. I ordered an off-menu sandwich (I misinterpreted the a la carte breakfast sandwich as "you can make up your own sandwich") which they were able to make for me no problem. Overall pretty good little bakery with tons of homemade baked goods. We stopped in for lunch and found it but a bit overpriced for the underwhelming experience. I had the beef pasty and it had hardly any beef in it. The crust was good and side of Asian pasta salad was better then expected.
