This location is stunning- simply put. I frequented coco bean (their old location on East 54) when I was an undergrad at UNC. My only issue with that location was the limited space, but I loved studying/catching up with friends there. Since I've graduated and started working, I haven't had the need to sit down and study with a delicious iced coffee. When I found out Coco relocated, I absolutely HAD to go. The area surrounding Coco is very simple. There are plenty of spaces for side street parking and there is a parking deck nearby (partially gated for the apartment residents). I ordered my typical ice hazelnut latte with almond milk (~$6). It tasted delish. Everyone was super nice and had a welcoming vibe. The space is filled with natural light but if you feel bothered by the sun, they have shades that you can pull down (a very nice touch). Plenty of seating inside with a few spots outside too! I'm not sure about the outlet situation since I didn't need to charge anything. One suggestion is to take names for the orders- it was hard to hear the barista call out my order since there was a lot of chatter going on around me. We stopped in for lunch during the week since we had an offer from a local discount group. I read this used to be Cocoa Bean near East 54 and is now more of a full-service eatery that focuses on plant-based food. We enjoyed our breakfast sandwich and avocado toast in the bright, open space. My little suggestion would be that the breakfast sandwich would have been better on a brioche bun than on sliced brioche bread. The staff was friendly and brought our order to us on their patio. Although not specifically a UNC-Chapel Hill establishment, there is a nod to the basketball team in the dining area. Looks like there is not a ton of parking nearby but we parked in the deck at the adjacent building. I think they will do well here. read more

I was looking for something light to eat before a concert. Coco popped up on doordash and my sister and I decided to order from there. I loved the presentation of our toast as each slice was boxed separately so that it did not get squished or messed up. This was also helpful as we both saved a slice for when we got home. The Caprese on Gf toast was good. I wasn't sure how I was going to like it because I never heard of cashewmilk Mozzarella before. It was very tasty and I'm glad I tried something new. I had the chipotle bacon breakfast sandwich but they subbed sausage because they were out of bacon. It was very good but it was spicier than I expected! The sausage had great flavor and texture. I am doing a fast where I have given up meat so I asked my husband if we could go to a vegetarian/vegan restaurant for lunch. Coco was wonderful!!! We happened to stumble upon their first inaugural brunch day, where they do full service instead of ordering at the counter. The wait staff were extremely friendly pleasant and helpful. The food was outstanding - and this coming from two meat eaters! I had the overnight oats loaded with lots of fresh fruit. My husband, who has only eaten vegan food once or twice in his life and always prefers a good steak, ordered the scramble, pesto and grilled cheese sandwich and said it was fantastic. This is, by far, the best vegan eatery I have ever tried. We travel LOT; East Coast to West Coast and Orlando to Chicago. Extremely nice and helpful; everything is vegan which always makes ordering so easy and fun! So many choices, I couldn't decide and had to order double. The food was awesome!!!!! We were excited to come here on a Friday night for the first time. My wife is vegan, and Coco is only 4 miles from our house. On the plus side, my wife's blackberry daiquiri and our avocado and mushroom burgers with potato wedges were delicious. But there were definite minuses: The daiquiri ($10) was tiny, about 3-4 sips. We ordered as soon as we sat down, but after 50 minutes we were told that the cook still needed another 8 minutes "to start frying our potato wedges," and our burgers were "sitting under a heat lamp." Very slow considering that there were never more than four other couples in the dining room during our meal. When the burgers arrived, both were slathered with mayo, despite my wife requesting that it be left off, and reminding the waitress that mayo ruined any dish for her. So after waiting an hour to be served, my wife had to wait almost a quarter hour more for her meal to be redone. The waitstaff was friendly and willing, but management obviously had spent no time training them. There were no setups on the tables, and when my wife went looking for some, all she could find was a station with napkins and (environmentally unfriendly) plastic forks. No knives or spoons. The waitstaff spent most of their time drifting through the dining room to no apparent purpose. Finally, the music was a loud, incessant techno beat more suited for a night club or party boat. We considered giving only two stars, but gave three because Coco does support plant-based dining, and we hope they can improve the dining experience. read more
