My wife and I went to Coco Deck for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The manager, Rob, sat us at a prime location on the patio where we could enjoy the sunset. He, along with our most excellent server, Nico, provided us with complementary chips and dip along with a Risata Prosecco drink for toasting, both delicious. For dinner, we ordered, and very much enjoyed both the fish and sweet potato tacos with added pork. For dessert, they again gave us a complementary dish of their very delicious Coco Toast. With dessert I like to drink Decaf but this restaurant does not serve decaf. But unbelievably the manager, Rob, walked across front street to the restaurant there, where he ordered me a decaf, then walked it back across the street and hand-delivered it right to our table. I have never seen service like this. The service from both the manager and our server Nico was way over and above. They made my wife and my anniversary dinner very special and memorable. We decided to try to grab dinner here after a sunset cruise. The restaurant was super busy for a week night. We had a group of 6 and ended up waiting about 25-30 minutes. The restaurant was pretty loud, but had a fun vibe. All staff were friendly and our waiter gave great suggestions. We started with the poke donut which was awesome. I would highly suggest getting one or more for the table. It was SO yummy! The wings were great too, really great flavor. We also got salsa, guacamole and chips which was good, but would probably skip. Entree got the coco crusted mahi which I really liked as well. $180 for 4 people, 4 mains and 2 cocktails. I land between a 3 to 4 rating. The cocktails were good, fries looked like a bit of a hodge podge of different fried starches (multiple types in one order) but were pretty good. The burgers kind of missed, they are know for large 2-4 party smash burgers but there was no smash, no char on the burger and they were over cooked. It was incredibly hot in the restaurant, sit outside if you can. The fish tacos had excellent toppings but the actual fish was dry. They have pop a shot and pool, kid friendly sports bar feel. The service as fast, shocked how fast the food came out not in a good way. read more

Fantastic location with a view of the beach. This Mexican fusion spot has indoor and outdoor seating, I recommend making reservations so you get a good table with a view. My daughter and I sat outside on the patio right around sunset time so we had beautiful lighting, the ambiance couldn't be better. Daughter ordered the fish tacos - three smallish fish tacos on soft tortillas came out with a side of chips and salsa. Unfortunately it wasn't very filling and for $26.75 you wouldn't think you would be hungry afterwards but unfortunately that was the case. I wasn't terribly hungry and got the ceviche stack for $19.75. Definitely more of an appetizer, but it hit the spot - very fresh ingredients. Our hipster server had somewhat of a cocky attitude. I asked if one of their fish dishes was fresh or frozen, and he responded like "duh of course it's fresh." Coco Deck also has a secret menu, when I asked him what that a was about, his response was "well it's a secret menu." Gee thanks! That is so helpful, dude, I don't need your condescending attitude. As far as food on our trip, this honestly might be one of my favorite spots we've been to yet. Walked in with no reservation on a Saturday evening and the two ladies working the front were super lovely and got us seated quickly. The nachos and chips and dip are stellar, incredible queso and guac and the seasoning on the chips brought it up a notch. My only critique would be that for the price of the chips and dip you would think it would be a larger portion! Or at least the chips would be refillable. But alas no. I ordered the southwestern salad with birria for my main. I thought the flavor combo was excellent. Perfect even amount of everything and the meat was flavorful and juicy. Only critiques I have is that it was a bit too salty and again for the price the portion could have been larger. Someone I dined with ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and was a bite disappointed. I tried a bit and found it to be dissatisfyingly unspicy and a the chicken wasn't the greatest. Our service was pretty splendid. Friendly, attentive, and helpful. As far as atmosphere goes, it's decent. I personally don't love going out to eat with a bunch of TVs blaring in my face so maybe take that into consideration. Went into this establishment hungry and came out looking like a snowman. Few things beforehand the happy hour is a true happy hour it's not your 2$ of a 20$ Mai Tai like the local 4 Diamond Drains nearby. A.) Went yesterday for dinner at 6pm and we all loved it. Coral was our waitress and she was super sweet and attentive. It was our first time trying Coco Deck. It was very good. I was wavering between a four and a five. The appetizer we had was the poke Donut. We also had the Brussels sprout Caesar salad and the big bowl with Mahi. The kids had the chicken fingers and burger. I would say it was all very good but didn't quite make it to the amazing level. They have homemade hot sauces that they bring to the table, which are mild, medium, and hot, but be careful, even the mild is quite spicy. We had a Mai Tai cocktail, which was good but very heavy on the pineapple flavor. All in all, it was a very good meal, and I would come back and try more of their menu. read more

We had a late lunch here. It was fun. The site is very pretty next to the ocean with a cute deck & open air dining area. The service was fast & the food was great. He had the McMahi off the "secret menu" & I had grilled mahi tacos. The French fries were amazing. My tacos came with corn chips & I opted for the guacamole which was really good too. Coco Deck delivered a fantastic lunch experience. Sitting across from the ocean with all the windows open made for a refreshing and relaxed setting. Service was great, and the food was clearly prepared with care. We ordered the mahi fish and chips and the Big Deck Bowl. The bowl included sweet potatoes, house slaw, cauliflower, mushrooms, coconut rice, pickled red onions, chimichurri, and added pulled pork -- colorful, balanced, and full of flavor. The fish and chips featured beer-battered mahi, artichokes, pickled malt mayo, and fries; the artichokes added a nice touch of freshness to the plate, and everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully executed. With Lahaina still in the early stages of recovery, it's encouraging to see restaurants like this bringing energy back to the area. She is super-engaging, can speak to the food & drink menu items in great detail, and enhanced our visit. Had an excellent meal on December 22nd. Michelle was our server. Amazing person, amazing service. She was attentive and kind, without being a helicopter! She guided us expertly through the menu as we are vegans. She did not give us any side eye, but just made sure we were getting things right! We loved the experience. Our group headed to Coco Deck for our last dinner in Maui before we flew home. We had this locally owned restaurant on our list of places we wanted to try and are glad we made it. When we arrived parking was a problem, it appeared there was only a small lot next to the restaurant. We ended up parking at the Safeway just down the street, I don't know if that's typical, it was just what we happened to do. Finally inside and we were ready to eat. I had looked at the menu beforehand and decided to try their Fish & Chips. The table decided a couple of appetizers were in order first, Chips & Dip and a Poke Donut. I had a piece of the donut, didn't really know what I was eating but I liked it. As for the chips & dip, the chips were warm and the generous amount of queso we added to the order was delicious. We went through the chips and asked if we could have more and learned we could for 2.50. Hmmm, I'm used to Mexican restaurants at home giving chips away, but I'm not at home. The Fish & Chips was different than traditional, I liked it. Instead of a couple of battered fillets of Cod or Halibut it was one big thick piece of battered Mahi Mahi. It was firm, a bit dry, and substantial. The chips were great. Called funky chips on the menu, instead of thick cut fries it was a mix of 4 different types of fries, thin, waffle, curly, and sweet potato. Different and clever. I was drinking a Diet Coke and asked for a refill. Because of the surprise with the appetizer chips I asked if the refill was free and learned it wasn't. Back home I can assume fountain drinks are free refills unless stated otherwise on the menu, but I'm not at home. Still, at 6.25 plus tip (7.50) for a Diet Coke, charging a dollar for a refill seemed petty. We had a nice evening. Service was fine, I don't recall any problems, food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and although I didn't pay for the meal, that appeared to go well. I imagined the view had it not been dark when we arrived, and smiled. I will miss the beauty of Maui. read more

My wife and I came here for Happy Hour. The Happy Hour was great --- super reasonable --- and the food and drink top notch. For a cocktail, I had the Mule on Da Beach. Not only was it a great drink, but at $5.50 very reasonably priced. My wife and I both ordered fish tacos, and I had a Birria Queso taco and she had a Sweet Potato taco. Coming from Southern California, I'm picky about Mexican food because it's so great at home. The tacos were amazing! The fish tacos had fresh mahi mahi, lettuce and slices of lime. The Birria Queso taco had really juicy, tender beef and had pickled jalapeno and carrots on the side with a great dipping sauce. And like the cocktail, the tacos were reasonably priced for really large tacos. Our waiter was super friendly. The vibe for the crowded restaurant was buzzy and upbeat. And perhaps best of all, from where we were seated on the patio, we had a great view of the ocean and a reminder of why Maui is such a great place to visit. read more

Super cozy spot right at the end of front street. Small parking lot, so that can be tricky on busier days. We ordered the birria ramen, queso tacos, fish-n-chips, and the chicken sandwich. Finally got a chance to try Coco Deck. I saw this place last time I was in Maui. It is located in great location near Honu and Mala Tavern. Parking can generally be had at Lahaina Cannery nearby. Restaurant parking is almost non existent. The place is on the larger side for this area so plenty of seating for 2 people or 8. There is a deck that wraps around the property so you can see the ocean across the street. A lot of restaurants in this area are moving more upscale so it's nice to have a place like CD with good eats and good pricing. This food is definitely a slice of different for this area. I would describe it at Mexican and Hawaiian fusion. For example they have a dish called Birria Ramen. I was tempted but wasn't craving soup. Overall, I was mostly impressed by what I had: Crispy Garlic Shrimp: I tried the shrimp by itself. I tried it dipped in the garlic butter. I tried it with the cabbage and sauce. The latter yielded the best bite. Poke Doughnut: What??? I've never had anything like this before. The crispy dough exterior and the poke made for a nice bite. I would preferred maybe a dipping sauce on the side on the side or drizzed on top. But I really I liked this one the best. Oyster Shooters: This one was not to my liking. I mean it looked cool and inviting to eat. I tried shooting the whole thing at once and it was overwhelming. Lol. I mean that is a large shot with lots of liquid and the oyster was on the bigger side. The dish was very tangy and sour. I get what the chef was trying to do here. But I found it too sour. The tanjin rim elevates the sour tang as well. I would of preferred some sweetness to counter the sourness of liquid. Or maybe tone it down some. If you like tangy sour flavor profile this is your jam. The drinks were fine. My Ube lemonade was pretty good once I mixed the cream into the drink. It smoothed out the tartness of the lemonade and brought out the Ube flavor. The watermelon agua Fresca was very good. From hostess to waiter everyone was friendly. Our server Slater was very good. Explained the dishes and answered our questions about the food choices. I think that is key at this place due to the uniqueness of the food served here. He did a good job overall. From the moment we entered this restaurant and was graciously greeted by Rob, restaurant manager, who later followed up by coming to the bar asking if "it was as good, or better than expected?" By then, our bartender, Zig had nicely poured a Cadillac Margarita for the Great Gal and their version of Mule on the Beach for me, followed by a Mai Tai shooter,.... as we were dining on a very satisfying ceviche and berria taco, I was able to answer Rob with the response, "even better than that." No doubt we are heading back to Coco Deck and it looks like it will be two days in a row. Which BTW, we did return for a second day in a row. This restaurant is amazing! It's right next to the beach, making it the perfect place for a peaceful and beautiful meal. The atmosphere inside is warm, welcoming, and tropical. Since we're visiting, this restaurant truly represents the hospitality and spirit of Maui. For drinks, my daughters ordered the Lahaina Lemonade in both the Classic and Hawaiian flavors. Personally, I preferred the Hawaiian. We also had the fresh catch ceviche, which was absolutely delicious and made for the perfect beachside dinner. I came here two nights in a row. That should already tell you everything you need to know. The first night, I ordered the Big Deck Bowl with mahi. The second night, I came back and ordered it again, this time with chicken. Either way, it was outstanding. This thing is a meal-sized masterpiece: hearty, healthy, and bursting with flavor. We're talking complex carbs like sweet potatoes, veggies that actually taste like they were seasoned on purpose, and funghi friends like mushrooms and their house slaw. Add in fragrant coconut rice, a pop of pickled red onions, and chimichurri sauce tying it all together, it's basically a flavor luau in a bowl. It's vibrant, it's delicious, and the portion size is no joke. This isn't one of those dainty "health bowls" where you leave hungrier than when you started. This is a full, satisfying, grown-up meal that doesn't require a snack run afterward. Now, because I like to explore the menu (and test my stomach's limits), the first night I also ordered the birria queso tacos and the fish tacos. Don't get me wrong, they were fine, but compared to the Big Deck Bowl, they didn't wow me. The presentation felt a little meh, and the portions a little light. It's not that they were bad, it's just that the bowl is clearly the Beyoncé here, and the tacos are more like the backup dancers. The space itself has a fun twist of déjà vu. This used to be Duckine, but Cocodeck has transformed it into something brighter, fresher, and more island-cool. Great atmosphere, casual but still polished, with that kind of "hang out and stay a while" vibe. Overall, Cocodeck won me over fast. When you come somewhere twice in two days, you know it's the real deal. If you go, do yourself a favor: skip the backup dancers and order the Big Deck Bowl. Your taste buds will thank you.
