I have been craving the hurricane Ahi bowl since I came here in 2024. Where else can you get sushi grade seared tuna, katsu'ed to be crispy, with a delicious sauce? And the best rice with furikake, and then some pretty good macaroni salad? Only here as far as I know? Definitely not where I live in San Diego. The tuna was just as amazing as I remembered. It's easy to walk into the beach bar. And I liked the strawberry salad again, although the strawberries themselves were not that great. The salad is full of fat (nuts, goat cheese, and dressing), but the local lettuce is really good and overall it's a very tasty salad. And you can avoid the fat by getting the dressing on the side and eating around the goat cheese and not eating all the nuts. I was a little disappointed with my 1944 cocktail. It was definitely strong in alcohol content, but the flavor was super muted compared to last time. Decided to order the hula pie because we had a discount card giving us a free one with two entrees, which we had bought anyway. It's a hulking dessert that might be crowd pleasing with a table of kids. It's much too much for one or two people, and not that interesting. I liked the chocolate sauce and the nuts, and that's all I ate. They have this at all of their restaurants, but I wouldn't pay to order it. Anyway, it was a little disappointing after it was one of my top two meals on the last trip. And the hurricane ahi is a must order. but once was enough for this trip! read more

Made a reservation for the night to be able to enjoy dinner close to our hotel in Kaanapali. Unfortunatley, we should've passed on Leilani's. First off, service was great. Upon check in, we were greeted immediately and notified our table would be ready shortly. After being seated our server (Dara) approached us and took our drinks and food orders promptly. I ordered a local draft beer, it came out warm and pretty flat. We did mention it to staff and they allowed me to select another beer off their menu, which was appreciated. The food... mid, I got the ribs and "huli huli chicken" (if you can even call it that). The chicken was not like any kind of huli huli chicken I've ever had, and should definitely be renamed on the menu. Chicken was a very dry piece of grilled chicken breast, with bbq sauce on top. I took 1 bite of it. The ribs were decent enough, nothing fancy, but not bad either. This place is definitely overpriced, for a slightly better price point I would recommend Monkey Pod, it's worth the wait. read more

Great views and service, with decent food. Made a reservation in advance but still had to wait a little bit for our table. We really liked the garlic shrimp pasta and were super excited for the ahi steak, but felt a little bit disappointed - the ahi itself was good but the rice and green beans felt really undercooked. I had high hopes for Leilani's based on all the positive reviews I read on Yelp, but unfortunately left pretty disappointed. I started with a Duke's Blonde Ale that came out warm and completely flat. Our waitress (who was awesome throughout the whole meal) replaced it with a much colder one but even that was still a little flat. I just drank it anyway. For food I ordered the $33 (!) rib and chicken plate, specifically because the menu described it as "all natural huli huli chicken." When it came out I was honestly shocked. The chicken looked and tasted more like something cooked from frozen off a Costco shelf than authentic huli huli chicken. When I hear huli huli, I'm expecting darker skin, some char, bark and those deep grilled flavors, none of which were there. The ribs were just okay and somehow a few were dry while others were juicy, although the sauce did taste homemade which was a small plus. Somehow the jicama coleslaw ended up being the highlight of the entire plate. Great texture, good flavor and the cold crunch worked really well against the hot meats. The fries were...fries. For $33, if you're calling it huli huli chicken, I expect actual huli huli chicken. If not, just describe it as "grilled chicken" Our waitress is honestly what saved this from being a 1 star review. She was lovely, removed the first beer from our bill and apologized for something that wasn't even her fault. I wish I had gotten her name. I might give Leilani's another shot, but I'd probably rather wait an hour for a table at Monkeypod across the way. read more

Looking to relax and kill some time, my husband and I made our way to Leilani's on the Beach during happy hour. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful view of the ocean. My husband ordered a local draft beer and I ordered a refreshing smoothie, served in a fresh pineapple cup. This was down below in the beach bar but no course sand around us Great attentive service and pretty fast turn around. Good music with a man and lady doing island music and other covers. Probably our best meal in Maui for the past week! We secured a late reservation for Leilani's for our party of nine. The service was prompt and our appetizers came out pretty quickly. We had the coconut shrimp and the poke with plantain chips. Both were devoured in a matter of minutes. Our entrées were also great. I think the table favorite was the shrimp pasta. The cream sauce was not too heavy, and the texture of the pasta was firm on the inside yet soft. Everyone at the table who tasted it, loved it. Oh and the hoopa pie was fantastic! My favorite thing that I ate above all else was their famous hula pie! It was so delicious.. we all shared one and we're tempted to get a second even though the portion was humongous. We walked down the Kaanapali beach walkway from our resort to the Whalers Village to try Leilani's. We did make a reservation earlier and did arrive on time, my only gripe is that management needs to train the hosts/hostesses a little better. My experience in the food/hospitality industry is that the reservation parties are always seated before a "walk in" and that didn't happen with us. Nevertheless let's talk about Leilani's, it's a bi level set up with patio dining at ground level with beach level views, live entertainment and a different dining menu. We were seated on the 2nd level with ocean view and open breezy al fresco ambience. Our server was Hannah, pleasant and ready to offer a truly fabulous dining experience. Hannah did check on us multiple times through dinner, thank you Hannah for that. We started with the chilled beets and whipped burrata, a creatively crafted use of Burrata cheese that really made this chilled beet salad delicious. The Parmesan crusted Mahi Mahi in a flavorful lemon caper sauce was so good, fish was very fresh and flaky. Coconut shrimp was cooked perfectly, packed with coconut and cooked to perfection. Not dry at all, the sauce that comes with it didn't really pair with the coconut shrimp only because my wife is not a big Curry fan. Hannah effortlessly switched sauce to a horseradish Yuzu sauce that paired nicely and definitely a better flavor combo. Kimos Hula Pie was "Ono" simply delizioso and a huge piece enough for two and we still couldn't finish it. Great evening, stupendous dining experience and I would return to explore the menu a little more. When on the Kaanapali coast do stop in and try breakfast, lunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed. This little beach bar was so convenient. It is right next to the beach in whalers village. We came in from the beach and checked out their happy hour. The patio was packed. The happy hour food was tasty. We ordered the coconut chicken skewers the sauce was delicious. The shrimp were crispy . The vegetable dip with flatbread was a bit flavorless and the lettuce wraps were tasty. The food was extremely small portions. I would recommend skip the happy hour and get real entrees - we all ended up hungry an hour later needing snacks. The drinks were watered down - mine was the Kimos Grog its was not very good at all. We ate here on Christmas Eve, scheduled with reservations made a month before. Look out for a call from the restaurant about a week before, confirming your reservation! It was very crowded, especially the whole Whaler's Village Plaza (where most stores were open on Christmas Eve, and select stores open on Christmas day as well). We were seated on the main deck, which is open-air and pretty much as beach front as possible. There were fans overhead that kept the air cool and as the sun set, the shades were lowered to block the sun rays, but still let in light. Oh, and I almost forgot, but there was a live band that created a great ambiance whether you were dining or walking by. On a side note, the bathrooms are located close to the front host station (actually outdoor entry, to the left). We ordered three appetizers; the seafood platter, crab cakes, and ceviche. Of those three, I really enjoyed the crab cakes, and seafood platter. The seafood platter had a great variety to share as a table, with lobster tails (2) , oysters (4), shrimp (4), and ahi poke (which was the best of the platter). The ceviche was still good but it was very lemon-y/citrus-y for my palate. It was made with the catch of the day, which was some sort of sail-sword fish. We ordered a variety entrees; the garlic shrimp pasta, parmesan crusted fish, sesame crusted ahi steak, and the 12 oz prime rib. If you like garlic, and want perfectly al dente pasta, get the garlic shrimp pasta! It was very garlic-y and a little salty, but really tasty and quite filling. It has cheese in the sauce so it also adds to the heavy-feeling of the dish. The parmesan crusted fish was super tender and buttery. The ahi steak was also solid, a few of us thought it was better than the parmesan crusted. And the prime rib was perfectly cooked to our desired medium rare! You can ask for fresh horseradish on the side, which compliments the prime rib perfectly! Lastly, we had to try their specialty creation dessert; the Hula Pie, which is a chocolate covered macadamia nut icecream slice, with oreo crust and chocolate fudge with whipped cream on the side. It was crazy TASTY but it took 6 of us to finish it after all of that food we had prior to dessert. On a side note, I wanted to mention that the restaurant was really busy, so take this with a grain of salt. Our appetizers came out literally 2 minutes after we ordered them. Midway to finishing the appetizers, we ordered our entrees. By the time we finished our apps, it seemed like there was an awkward gap of 25-30 minutes for when the entrees came out. Maybe that is normal, but it just felt a little long. All to say, this didn't make or break the experience, and I would say we had an excellent and great meal at Leilani's! read more

The best I've had, not oily, lightly breaded fish , large portion. 5/5 My husband had the Cobb Salad. It was very good! Much better value than the food court area a couple of night ago, larger salad, more flavor, just as much chicken and more variety. We will definitely go back to try other things on the menu. Leilani's is perfect for large parties. And the staff at Leilani's is so understanding with little kids in the group. They brought extra crayons and activity books when the kids were getting loud and rowdy. We ordered drinks right away. The POG was a nice frozen treat for the kids and they got to keep the cup to play with later. The lychee martini was pretty good, on the sweet side but it was for lunch. We also had fried calamari, ahi poke, bento boxes, Maui's farmer Cobb, and the fried chicken sandwich. The food not pictured because everyone was starving and dug in right away. We had a lovely birthday dinner here for a friend. One thing to note - with no Lahaina town to visit and enjoy, Whaler's Village can be absolutely packed and nuts with so many tourists! It was especially busy on a Tuesday evening in early October. You really need reservations here. We even had to wait about 20 minutes for our reserved table. But the Leilani's staff knows how to handle a rush. They treated us well, once seated we were greeted by a wonderful and cheery server. Food was delivered quickly and was very good. Leilani's On The Beach is easily one of my wife's and my favorite places to eat on Maui. The food is consistently outstanding--perfectly cooked across the board--and their calamari is some of the best you'll find anywhere on the island. The service is always exceptional as well. The staff understands that guests are there to unwind and soak in the experience, and they go out of their way to make you feel genuinely taken care of. Combine that with the restaurant's beachfront location and you get unbeatable sunset views that elevate the entire evening. Leilani's is always busy, so plan to arrive early. Left for an afternoon snorkeling tour on the beach right in front of Leilani's On The Beach, so it only felt natural to grab dinner there after we returned. We were served by Michelle, who was INCREDIBLE; super friendly and fantastic at her job. My friend asked if she could have just a Strawberry Smoothie after seeing the Tropical Smoothie offered under Mocktails on the menu. Michelle said it was no problem, and the smoothie was honestly really delicious and refreshing. Then, our table shared the Calamari Strips, which was a great split amongst 5 adults. Standard calamari, though the strips cut were new to me, but no notes, 10/10. For entrees, we got a Maui Fresh Salad w/Garlic Butter Shrimp for protein, the Hawaiian Big Eye Sashimi, the Parmesan Crusted Fish of the Day (Mongchong for us), and the Garlic Butter Shrimp Pasta. All were yummy, but nothing blew me out of the park. The fish was probably the most standout to me, and it was described to us as an average white fish with a fishier flavor - however, I didn't find it fishy at all! The mashed potatoes that came as a side for one of the entrees were also another standout for me; so creamy and well seasoned! The dressing on the salad was unique, and the shrimp were all very big and juicy. The pasta used in the shrimp pasta threw me a bit; they were similar to campanelle (?), and the sauce I thought could have had more flavor. The side green beans and seasonal carrots were both very standardly seasoned and cooked vegetables. But next was dessert, and oh boy! We got 2 slices of the Hula Pie and WOW. You can't go wrong with layers of chocolate sauce, ice cream, and whipped cream, but Michelle bringing us extra chocolate sauce at no extra charge literally made our day - it was so good! read more

Went to the Beach Bar for lunch-- had the lovely Nicola serve us, who was quite personable, attentive and super friendly...and assisted by Lawrence who was equally attentive. Ordered the Mac nut hummus app, which was a great start followed by the fish tacos... whose reputation is well deserved. Love the fact we could choose flour or corn tortillas too. I've had an incredible experience everytime I've come to Leilani's. Even though it's part of the massive enterprise that owns Hula Grill, Dukes, etc - Leilani's menu is unique and dining experience exquisite. My extended family went here with my wife and daughter this past trip to Maui and the service was good as usual and the ambiance is epic during golden hour / Maui sunset. I ordered the hot pot and was impressed with the amount of shrimp in the dish. It was incredible. With Kimo's unfortunately out of the picture due to the Lahaina fires, I think Leilani's may have taken over as my favorite dinner spot on Maui! read more
