Great views and service, with decent food. Made a reservation in advance but still had to wait a little bit for our table. We really liked the garlic shrimp pasta and were super excited for the ahi steak, but felt a little bit disappointed - the ahi itself was good but the rice and green beans felt really undercooked. We saw everyone getting the hula pie so decided to get one as well, but it is definitely WAY too much for two people and gets a little bit too sweet after a few bites.

    Rib and Chicken Plate

I had high hopes for Leilani's based on all the positive reviews I read on Yelp, but unfortunately left pretty disappointed. I started with a Duke's Blonde Ale that came out warm and completely flat. Our waitress (who was awesome throughout the whole meal) replaced it with a much colder one but even that was still a little flat. I just drank it anyway. For food I ordered the $33 (!) rib and chicken plate, specifically because the menu described it as "all natural huli huli chicken." When it came out I was honestly shocked. The chicken looked and tasted more like something cooked from frozen off a Costco shelf than authentic huli huli chicken. When I hear huli huli, I'm expecting darker skin, some char, bark and those deep grilled flavors, none of which were there. The ribs were just okay and somehow a few were dry while others were juicy, although the sauce did taste homemade which was a small plus. Somehow the jicama coleslaw ended up being the highlight of the entire plate. Great texture, good flavor and the cold crunch worked really well against the hot meats. The fries were...fries. For $33, if you're calling it huli huli chicken, I expect actual huli huli chicken. If not, just describe it as "grilled chicken" Our waitress is honestly what saved this from being a 1 star review. She was lovely, removed the first beer from our bill and apologized for something that wasn't even her fault. I wish I had gotten her name. I might give Leilani's another shot, but I'd probably rather wait an hour for a table at Monkeypod across the way.

We made a last minute reservation at the desk for the beach version of the restaurant. Waited an hour and were seated immediately. The beach location is on the ground floor where you can hear the ocean but a big hedge obstructs most of the view. We started with drinks. It was one of our first nights in Hawaii for a couple weeks. Prices are expensive but not as expensive as the main restaurant. The menu is bar food with some fresh food choices. The dinner doesn't stand out compared to the other places we ate at over the first 4 days. Everything was fine but not exciting. It's a very popular area so wait times were hours.

Fish Tacos $29.00 Sloppy Ozzy $23.50 Fish tacos was served with tortilla chips and salsa. Sloppy Ozzy was served with fries. Food was very good. Of this was around my home I would frequent this establishment but, I was on vacation and wanting to try every place that I had book marked. Love the view from the dining area. This was the first place we dined on our vacation. It was late and we were seated right away and service was perfection.

$10 up charge for a pineapple "cup"

Looking to relax and kill some time, my husband and I made our way to Leilani's on the Beach during happy hour. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful view of the ocean. Our server was extremely kind and attentive without being pushy. We decided to start with an order of the calamari; it was tender and breaded to perfection. My husband ordered a local draft beer and I ordered a refreshing smoothie, served in a fresh pineapple cup. I will say, when the bill arrived and I saw that it was a $10 up charge for the pineapple cup, I probably would not order it that way again but when you're on vacation, you order silly things. My husband also ordered the infamous fish tacos and thoroughly enjoyed them. All in all, it was a nice place to have a light bite to eat and enjoy the scenery.

The main reason to go here is for the gorgeous sunset on the water. It was truly breathtaking. However, the food left much to be desired. I had the smoked ribs and chicken. The ribs and chicken were both dry. The piece of chicken was so thin and was drowning in sauce to cover it up how dry it was The fries were crispy and good. My kids had the chicken tenders. One with fresh watermelon and one with fries. They both said it was good but nothing special. In all, Even with the food being very mediocre the service was good but we will not return.

The outdoor beach side portion is for walk-ins, which was remarkable itself. Great menu even though limited compared to inside restaurant, and wonderful local talent for live music overlooking the sunset. We went twice in one week which says a lot since I prefer to keep trying new things. Our servers Carl and Julia were upbeat and very attentive. Highly recommend.

I brought my family here for lunch boy I got a chef board special sandwich it was a huge piece of chicken breast teriyaki style with a pineapple on top. Very good! Excellent service. Beach front setting couldn't get any better than this! Try the vision menu it works great too!

We really liked Leilani's. The view was nice but not really a direct view of the beach. The alcoholic beverages were very well done. They have some fun flavors and the house tequila was good. Food came out quickly and they even split our food into two portions for the two of us that were sharing without having to be asked. Overall good atmosphere and friendly service with decent prices for the area. Good for a simple easy lunch with exotic options.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The best meal spot we had so far along this strip. Better poke, ribs were tender and crispy, really good flavor. Love all the veg that came with the hummus. It was tasty. Possibly will come back if we do not feel like eating at other places.

We had planned to go to Monkeypod for dinner but it was all backed up. Leilani's got us right I for 4 right in front of the live music and an ideal sunset view. This was down below in the beach bar but no course sand around us Great attentive service and pretty fast turn around. Good music with a man and lady doing island music and other covers. The lychee martinis and lava flows about as good as they get. I would have loved a lychee garnish Two ordered cheeseburger and fries. Cooked perfect to order preferences. I ordered the bento combo and daughter got the fish tacos. The fish tacos were good and she enjoyed them. Chips pretty tasty but a basic jarred salsa My bento was fantastic overall. Fish stick and slaw above average at least. Now kalbi ribs and rice, tasty pickled veg but would have loved some kimchee! The hot wings were fantastic but really hard to eat spicy messy wings like this in public so I saved two for a snack later. Seems simple but not everyone makes good Mac salad and especially the nicer restaurants. But this was as good as I get at plate lunch places! We've gone by so many times over the years and glad we tried it this time!

This restaurant was one of the best places I ate at during my vacation. All of the food was delicious, generous portions, and came in a timely manner. My favorite thing that I ate above all else was their famous hula pie! It was so delicious.. we all shared one and we're tempted to get a second even though the portion was humongous. If you come to leilani's, you definitely need to leave room to order one of these. Also the location is attached to the whaler shopping center which is a prime spot.. recommend making a reservation especially for the restaurant part but the beach bar area isn't easy first come first serve location during the day Our servers were kind, knowledgeable and friendly. If you're in Maui you definitely need to stop by this place it's good for large groups or date night

    No happy hour!

Can you dine downstairs if you made a reservation online?

Reservations are accepted for upstairs only. Downstairs dining is walk-in basis.

Is this a good place for a "no-host group of 30?

I would think so! There are actually two levels-- upstairs is a bit fancier and require you to order off of a fancier steak and seafood menu. The lower level is more casual (cocktails, small plates, etc) and gets and stays busier.. The service is…

Are reservations a must? And if you can't get one, do they accept walk in's?

Reservations are always going to be the best route, but we did walk-up back in October, and got pretty lucky. There's a lot to do right around there, shops and such, but they can sometimes get you in to the downstairs bar area faster than the main…

    Do they serve breakfast?

Hi Kelly, I'm sorry they don't, they open at 4:00 PM. If you are looking for an alternative with the same view and taste, we went to HuiHui inside the Kaanapali Beach Hotel and their breakfast was "superb". We went there for breakfast on our first…

If open table has no available reservations, is there another option?

It has been a couple weeks since we ate there but they did allow walk-ins. We would just send someone to check-in 90-120 minutes before we wanted to eat.

Can you dine upstairs dressed in beach attire?

We frequently see trunks and a t-shirt or button shirt, and have never seen a thong w/a string bikini top at the upstairs restaurant.

Do they have gluten free options?

Yes! The items are marked on the menu with a symbol as well.

I guess everyone has a bad night now and then. Clearly our server was in that mode. Just sort of a dowered look on her face and no warmth or personal touch. The time before I had to send it back because it was like a tennis shoe sole. I even asked that it not be over cooked when I first ordered. Yikes!!! Pizza sauce was very thick and tomato pasty (canned?) At least the crust was good. I'm a big fan of Merriman's, but this branch is not anything like the original Wailea restaurant. It wasn't fresh calamari, but rather fried calamari strips that seemed like the type that come frozen in a bag. The bruschetta wasn't really bruschetta either. It was more like an open-faced sandwich. At these prices, I expected better quality, preparation, and portion sizes.
