We walked down the Kaanapali beach walkway from our resort to the Whalers Village to try Leilani's. We did make a reservation earlier and did arrive on time, my only gripe is that management needs to train the hosts/hostesses a little better. My experience in the food/hospitality industry is that the reservation parties are always seated before a "walk in" and that didn't happen with us. Nevertheless let's talk about Leilani's, it's a bi level set up with patio dining at ground level with beach level views, live entertainment and a different dining menu. We were seated on the 2nd level with ocean view and open breezy al fresco ambience. Our server was Hannah, pleasant and ready to offer a truly fabulous dining experience. Hannah did check on us multiple times through dinner, thank you Hannah for that. We started with the chilled beets and whipped burrata, a creatively crafted use of Burrata cheese that really made this chilled beet salad delicious. The Parmesan crusted Mahi Mahi in a flavorful lemon caper sauce was so good, fish was very fresh and flaky. Coconut shrimp was cooked perfectly, packed with coconut and cooked to perfection. Not dry at all, the sauce that comes with it didn't really pair with the coconut shrimp only because my wife is not a big Curry fan. Hannah effortlessly switched sauce to a horseradish Yuzu sauce that paired nicely and definitely a better flavor combo. Kimos Hula Pie was "Ono" simply delizioso and a huge piece enough for two and we still couldn't finish it. Great evening, stupendous dining experience and I would return to explore the menu a little more. When on the Kaanapali coast do stop in and try breakfast, lunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed. We had planned to go to Monkeypod for dinner but it was all backed up. Leilani's got us right I for 4 right in front of the live music and an ideal sunset view. This was down below in the beach bar but no course sand around us Great attentive service and pretty fast turn around. Good music with a man and lady doing island music and other covers. The lychee martinis and lava flows about as good as they get. I would have loved a lychee garnish Two ordered cheeseburger and fries. Cooked perfect to order preferences. I ordered the bento combo and daughter got the fish tacos. The fish tacos were good and she enjoyed them. Chips pretty tasty but a basic jarred salsa My bento was fantastic overall. Fish stick and slaw above average at least. Now kalbi ribs and rice, tasty pickled veg but would have loved some kimchee! The hot wings were fantastic but really hard to eat spicy messy wings like this in public so I saved two for a snack later. Seems simple but not everyone makes good Mac salad and especially the nicer restaurants. But this was as good as I get at plate lunch places! This restaurant was one of the best places I ate at during my vacation. All of the food was delicious, generous portions, and came in a timely manner. My favorite thing that I ate above all else was their famous hula pie! It was so delicious.. we all shared one and we're tempted to get a second even though the portion was humongous. If you come to leilani's, you definitely need to leave room to order one of these. Also the location is attached to the whaler shopping center which is a prime spot.. recommend making a reservation especially for the restaurant part but the beach bar area isn't easy first come first serve location during the day Our servers were kind, knowledgeable and friendly. What a great place with really great food and wonderful service. Our waiter Mark was really on point and the food was so good including the drinks. We had the fish, prime rib, pasta, and of course the pie. Highly recommend the visit, the views are great and the food just delicious. If I had two minor recommendations to the restaurant it would be for the mai tai's to be served in a real glass instead of a plastic one given the price points. Also, I think different color plates would help with the presentation. That said the food was really really good and we'll be back! read more

This little beach bar was so convenient. It is right next to the beach in whalers village. We came in from the beach and checked out their happy hour. The patio was packed. The happy hour food was tasty. We ordered the coconut chicken skewers the sauce was delicious. The shrimp were crispy . The vegetable dip with flatbread was a bit flavorless and the lettuce wraps were tasty. The food was extremely small portions. I would recommend skip the happy hour and get real entrees - we all ended up hungry an hour later needing snacks. The drinks were watered down - mine was the Kimos Grog its was not very good at all. The muy bueno was better but pretty sour. Service was great the live band was wonderful. Went shopping around whalers village and found this place next to the ocean front. This place did not dissapoint. We were greeted and self seated by the bar area. Our waitress attended to us immediately and asked what we would like to drink. Ordered a Beer, cocktail and bloody mary. Received all within 5 minutes. Ordered a platter of Ceviche to munch on. I've had an incredible experience everytime I've come to Leilani's. Even though it's part of the massive enterprise that owns Hula Grill, Dukes, etc - Leilani's menu is unique and dining experience exquisite. My extended family went here with my wife and daughter this past trip to Maui and the service was good as usual and the ambiance is epic during golden hour / Maui sunset. I ordered the hot pot and was impressed with the amount of shrimp in the dish. It was incredible. With Kimo's unfortunately out of the picture due to the Lahaina fires, I think Leilani's may have taken over as my favorite dinner spot on Maui! read more

We ate here on Christmas Eve, scheduled with reservations made a month before. Look out for a call from the restaurant about a week before, confirming your reservation! It was very crowded, especially the whole Whaler's Village Plaza (where most stores were open on Christmas Eve, and select stores open on Christmas day as well). We were seated on the main deck, which is open-air and pretty much as beach front as possible. There were fans overhead that kept the air cool and as the sun set, the shades were lowered to block the sun rays, but still let in light. Oh, and I almost forgot, but there was a live band that created a great ambiance whether you were dining or walking by. On a side note, the bathrooms are located close to the front host station (actually outdoor entry, to the left). We ordered three appetizers; the seafood platter, crab cakes, and ceviche. Of those three, I really enjoyed the crab cakes, and seafood platter. The seafood platter had a great variety to share as a table, with lobster tails (2) , oysters (4), shrimp (4), and ahi poke (which was the best of the platter). The ceviche was still good but it was very lemon-y/citrus-y for my palate. It was made with the catch of the day, which was some sort of sail-sword fish. We ordered a variety entrees; the garlic shrimp pasta, parmesan crusted fish, sesame crusted ahi steak, and the 12 oz prime rib. If you like garlic, and want perfectly al dente pasta, get the garlic shrimp pasta! It was very garlic-y and a little salty, but really tasty and quite filling. It has cheese in the sauce so it also adds to the heavy-feeling of the dish. The parmesan crusted fish was super tender and buttery. The ahi steak was also solid, a few of us thought it was better than the parmesan crusted. And the prime rib was perfectly cooked to our desired medium rare! You can ask for fresh horseradish on the side, which compliments the prime rib perfectly! Lastly, we had to try their specialty creation dessert; the Hula Pie, which is a chocolate covered macadamia nut icecream slice, with oreo crust and chocolate fudge with whipped cream on the side. It was crazy TASTY but it took 6 of us to finish it after all of that food we had prior to dessert. On a side note, I wanted to mention that the restaurant was really busy, so take this with a grain of salt. Our appetizers came out literally 2 minutes after we ordered them. Midway to finishing the appetizers, we ordered our entrees. By the time we finished our apps, it seemed like there was an awkward gap of 25-30 minutes for when the entrees came out. Maybe that is normal, but it just felt a little long. All to say, this didn't make or break the experience, and I would say we had an excellent and great meal at Leilani's! read more

The best I've had, not oily, lightly breaded fish , large portion. 5/5 My husband had the Cobb Salad. It was very good! Much better value than the food court area a couple of night ago, larger salad, more flavor, just as much chicken and more variety. We will definitely go back to try other things on the menu. Leilani's is perfect for large parties. And the staff at Leilani's is so understanding with little kids in the group. They brought extra crayons and activity books when the kids were getting loud and rowdy. We ordered drinks right away. The POG was a nice frozen treat for the kids and they got to keep the cup to play with later. The lychee martini was pretty good, on the sweet side but it was for lunch. We also had fried calamari, ahi poke, bento boxes, Maui's farmer Cobb, and the fried chicken sandwich. The food not pictured because everyone was starving and dug in right away. We had a lovely birthday dinner here for a friend. One thing to note - with no Lahaina town to visit and enjoy, Whaler's Village can be absolutely packed and nuts with so many tourists! It was especially busy on a Tuesday evening in early October. You really need reservations here. We even had to wait about 20 minutes for our reserved table. But the Leilani's staff knows how to handle a rush. They treated us well, once seated we were greeted by a wonderful and cheery server. Food was delivered quickly and was very good. The food is consistently outstanding--perfectly cooked across the board--and their calamari is some of the best you'll find anywhere on the island. The service is always exceptional as well. The staff understands that guests are there to unwind and soak in the experience, and they go out of their way to make you feel genuinely taken care of. Left for an afternoon snorkeling tour on the beach right in front of Leilani's On The Beach, so it only felt natural to grab dinner there after we returned. We were served by Michelle, who was INCREDIBLE; super friendly and fantastic at her job. My friend asked if she could have just a Strawberry Smoothie after seeing the Tropical Smoothie offered under Mocktails on the menu. Michelle said it was no problem, and the smoothie was honestly really delicious and refreshing. Then, our table shared the Calamari Strips, which was a great split amongst 5 adults. Standard calamari, though the strips cut were new to me, but no notes, 10/10. For entrees, we got a Maui Fresh Salad w/Garlic Butter Shrimp for protein, the Hawaiian Big Eye Sashimi, the Parmesan Crusted Fish of the Day (Mongchong for us), and the Garlic Butter Shrimp Pasta. All were yummy, but nothing blew me out of the park. The fish was probably the most standout to me, and it was described to us as an average white fish with a fishier flavor - however, I didn't find it fishy at all! The mashed potatoes that came as a side for one of the entrees were also another standout for me; so creamy and well seasoned! The dressing on the salad was unique, and the shrimp were all very big and juicy. The pasta used in the shrimp pasta threw me a bit; they were similar to campanelle (?), and the sauce I thought could have had more flavor. The side green beans and seasonal carrots were both very standardly seasoned and cooked vegetables. But next was dessert, and oh boy! We got 2 slices of the Hula Pie and WOW. You can't go wrong with layers of chocolate sauce, ice cream, and whipped cream, but Michelle bringing us extra chocolate sauce at no extra charge literally made our day - it was so good! read more

Went to the Beach Bar for lunch-- had the lovely Nicola serve us, who was quite personable, attentive and super friendly...and assisted by Lawrence who was equally attentive. Ordered the Mac nut hummus app, which was a great start followed by the fish tacos... whose reputation is well deserved. Love the fact we could choose flour or corn tortillas too. Hubby had the 1944 mai tai which he loved, and I had the ginger hoku cocktail x 3 (?as I write this!)-- yummy. Great casual Setting too. We had dinner reservations for our first night in Maui on Monday. We arrived at our reservation time but it took about 15 minutes to actually be seated. Once seated, it took a little to be helped but service was prompt there after. We ordered two Mai tais which were great. I had the chicken and rib plate and subbed slaw for green beans and my husband had the seafood hot pot. Our food came out pretty quick and thankful it did because the power went out right as we were finishing up!!! And no, it did not come back on until 24 hours later :). Very thankful, had we started 10ish minutes later we would've had no food! The chicken and rib plate was great and my husband enjoyed his entree as well. How this place got such great reviews blows my mind. The food is absurdly overpriced for what it is. We went for brunch and it's self seating then. A couple came in after us, got menus and drinks BEFORE we even got menus or were even greeted by our waitresses. They probably assumed they had more money. The food was mediocre at best. The burger was tough and dry. The fish tacos were dripping in sauce. The bento box had good rice and short ribs. The fried fish was just thrown straight into the tartar sauce. Way to assume the amount people want. The fish and chips were fine. Absolutely nothing justifies their prices other than their expensive location. Seating outside in the back includes a stupidly loud live band where you can't hear other people at your table talk. Depending on what time you go, you also get baked alive. There's no fans, you're just hoping for the wind to blow and unfortunately it wasn't the day we went. It was just hot as hell. You don't even see the water while dining there. There's shrubs completely blocking your view and tons of people walking by since it's in a shopping area. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

We came here on this past week for a family dinner. The location is a perfect sunset and breach front terrace. Roomy and a warm tropical atmosphere. We had reservations and had to wait just a little bit but this place is worthy the little wait. Service is very good and helpful like Ashley who was super helpful and friendly in getting our left overs packed and bagged. She was above and beyond awesome. The location is beautiful, and the food was decent, but the overall experience was disappointing because of the service. Even though we had a reservation, we waited over 25 minutes for our table. The hostess was not friendly when we asked for an update, and once we were finally seated, it was difficult to get our server's attention. He barely interacted with us and seemed rushed the entire time. We had added a note to our reservation mentioning that it was my birthday, but there was no acknowledgment at all. No greeting, no special dessert, not even a mention. I was also carded and my birthday is listed on my ID if they missed the reservation note. A friend of mine had also arranged to send cocktails to our table as a surprise, and the staff didn't let us know they were from her, which made things awkward. Throughout the meal, dirty dishes sat on our table for too long before being cleared. We also asked our server to validate our parking ticket, and he said he'd be right back, but he never returned. We eventually had to flag him down while he was helping another table. This seems to be the bougiest restaurant in the Whaler's Village area, but I can only at best, give it a four rating, which is basically for our server. She was friendly and attentive and did check on us periodically throughout the meal. I missed her name, but she was professional and told us she was originally from CA, as we were. We ordered the Mac Hummus and Coconut Shrimp as appetizers for the four of us. Both good. No complaints. My son wanted the prime rib, but they were out. Two got the Parmesan crusted white fish, my son got the filet and I went with the ceviche appetizer as my entree. Just unhappy and disappointed with the size of the two fish & filet entrees, which included mashed and a vegetable, but did not even fill half of the plate. The serving of vegetables resembled a garnish IMO. So, after spending over $300 for 4 people, needless to say, we weren't even pleasantly full.
