I got my nails done there by an elderly lady. She was very meticulous and my nails are well shaped and the painting was very even too. She made sure to clean off any excess polish that had gotten outside the nail bed. I paid 10.50 for the manicure + $1 for quickdry. I would return for the 7 day polish (which i think are $14 based on a sign stuck on the display). My nails chipped the next day which is my norm for regular polish. read more

For $10.50 for a manicure, I should've expected this but the raving reviews for this salon really had my hopes up. Service was definitely fast since they are completely okay with walk-ins. However, my manicurist was young, inexperienced, and not well trained. Since she didn't speak any English, it was also difficult to communicate with her. She was extremely rough on my cuticles and cut my thumb pretty badly that it bled and swelled. She did disinfect it but boy, that really hurt! When painting my nails, she was fast but parts of my nails were definitely missed. Overall a disappointing experience, I won't be back. read more

I've been patronizing Coco Ruby since around April of this year (2016) and prior to my experience yesterday I only had one issue in the past that was resolved quickly. I got a gel manicure and two of the nails chipped the next day on a long holiday weekend. I went back to them on the Tuesday and they fixed it with no issue. Yesterday (10/19/16) I went to get a gel mani and regular pedi. The pedicure was fine--though I later noticed a smudge on one of my toes. The manicure was painful. My natural nails are usually in a longer almond shape (see pics), but I recently slammed my finger onto something and got a low break on my thumb nail and knew I'd have to start all over. When asked if I preferred my nails to be filed in a square or round shape, I told chose round. I showed the manicurist the broken nail and she began filing the nail down then asked if I wanted her to mend the nail for $3 with either gel or acrylic. English was not the manicurists' first language and there seemed to be a bit of confusion. I asked a few questions to get some clarity and in the end said, "Okay. Gel." She continues filing then before asking if I'd like for my cuticles to be clipped (which they usually do) she just went at it. She was very rough and I immediately noticed one of my cuticles bleeding (upon further inspection three were cut). Every time she'd put acetone/alcohol on my nails I visibly and audibly winced in pain. Shortly after she takes out the polish and I ask her about mending the nail and she's like, 'No no no. Too late.' I'm confused and she's like, 'I already filed it and they polish may get on your skin.' Okay... She finishes the manicure and thankfully no polish gets on my skin, but my thumbnail is very short and my skin feels raw. I didn't notice yesterday, but I now see that my right hand middle finger is smudged at the top of the nail (see pic). I do like Coco Ruby, but I wasn't very fond of the manicurist I had yesterday. Just came in here for a quick pedicure since I work in the area, the person who did my pedicure was very fast and took care of me well, till the very end when she asked for my card for payment. She asked if I wanted to put the tip on the card which I said no to since I had cash. Well turns out I only had 8$ singles and the rest were 20's. Instead of breaking a bill for one more dollar I just gave her the 8$ singles together which she proceeded to shake out and then said something in a foreign language after receiving the tip. I don't know what she said but for some reason I'm led to believe that it was obviously about her tip. I was ignored the 2 times that I tried to tell the elderly lady that I came in first. I agreed to wait when I first came in, but when other people were taken in without an appointment or any wait that's when I got up to leave. Anyone at the salon at this time can confirm that before leaving, I came up to the older lady and told her that I've been a long time customer and this kind of treatment is unacceptable and disgusting. I walked in 45 minutes before closing hoping to get a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. I wasn't expecting much attention to detail since there was so little time left but the woman who owns the place took her time and did both beautifully! The store closes at 9, but I ended up staying until 9:30 because she was making sure that everything was perfect. Seriously, I think this is one of the best mani/pedis I've ever gotten. The family who owns the shop is Korean, and I am as well. Just to let yall know, they were so respectful of the other customers and made sure that they were not chatting with each other in Korean, which I know bothers some people (myself included). As someone who doesn't like to 'mix' service providers on something like this, I hesitated to try someone close to my office, instead of near home in NJ. However, I went on a quiet day during a snow storm, and they were brilliant. Because NO ONE normal was around the city that day, I had 2 ladies working on my hands to get me done quickly. I especially appreciated the work they did on my cuticles, which most salons don't bother with when you go for an acrylic fill-it makes the fill last longer, and your fingers look much better without dry raggedy skin--esp. during the cold season. This place is just ok. I had an appointment and still ended up waiting 40 min to get a manicure, where the polished was globbed on and is now currently smudged. Oh, and it started to chip already. After the third coat it was still streaky so the women spoke in another language to her co worker making it obvious they noticed my nails weren't coming out well. I also had to ask several times for her to loosen up on the pressure. It should really only take one time of asking!! I would only return to Coco for nails. Don't bother with their massage services. It's nothing special to look at and the sanitariness (if that's even a word lol) is questionable.
