I love when I'm in a new town and come across a great little find on my own! This is one of those great finds. Immediately upon entry, I was greeted with the FABULOUS sweet scent of a nice espresso, and I was instantly in AWE of the multitude of fine candy bars from all over the world that lined one wall, and the beautiful display of sweet treats behind the glass! I was instantly greeted by a friendly gentleman behind the counter who was so patient with explaining any of their products and in answering my myriad of questions. There were some chocolates that looked more like artwork and too good for eating. Knowing I would be back (to purchase souvenirs), I started with a small sample of two of their dark barks (sold by the ounce): one containing hints of orange, and the other with almonds. The dark chocolate for both was ABSOLUTELY wonderful!--full, rich taste of the cacao, and the orange one had nice hints of orange. They are able to customize their chocolates, barks, and other treats into a decorative or clear box. Depending on what you get, things can get a little pricey (I won't lie), but you get good quality fine chocolates that are not mass-produced in a factory. In addition to chocolates, there are also baked items, such as pastries and cakes, and displays of chocolate items that are suitable for gift giving.....or in my case, personal eating! I am always a fan of more tea options, but they had an herbal 333 blend that I got twice because I liked it so much. While you're there it's a great time to grab some chocolate gifts for anyone in your life who may need a pick me up (or birthday, anniversary, holiday gift, whatever). They have an impressive chocolate collection for a small, independent shop. The shop is clean and the staff is friendly too. read more

I would give this place 5 stars because I just had a great coffee, maybe one of the best gf cookies ever and awesome service but I'm a little outraged that y'all use a POS system that doesn't allow people to leave credit card tips. I've worked in the service industry for a long time and I think it's pretty awful that y'all don't make it more accessible for your employees to receive tips. Take better care of your workers because they deserve it and are taking care of your business. There's no reason good enough for this.... and I'm glad I had cash on me. read more

New to Chicago and never want to go to another city unless Cocoa + Co is there! My group came here after a boozy brunch to enjoy some hot chocolate. The Mrs and I enjoyed their spicy Mexican hot chocolate, my bud got the vanilla hot chocolate, and his lady picked up a latte blend (espresso, burnt caramel, sea salt, and chocolate) called Chocolate Ecstasy. I LOVED that they let us sample each other's hot chocolate in separate tiny mugs as they conjured up the goodness. Very courteous! I'm admittedly not crazy about the Chocolate Ecstasy. I think it's an acquired taste because of the sea salt, but I found everything else delicious. Perfect pick-up on a cloudy December afternoon. I got the spinach empanada and the matcha lavender latte. The empanada was very good and the latte had great texture and a unique flavor. The main reason this gets 3 stars is because this spot doesn't have a good ambiance in my opinion. It isn't a cozy or cute place to hang at all. read more

Service is usually pretty good but some young guy had major issue that I came in with a service dog to get a drink. He started screaming no dogs in here I said it's service as he was about to say it doesn't matter I cut him off and said you can't deny a service dog. He mad my drink for me with complete attitude and practically threw my credit card at me and left me at the register and walked in the back to complain to his co workers as they were all staring at me while he was talking, I had to ask the nice girl behind the bar if I can have the whip cream it came with. He was awful I usually get really good service but not sure I'll be going back, I can get hot chocolate at Fox trot from now one. I LOVE Cocoa+Co. everything that my husband (who is seriously addicted to chocolate)and I have had has been outstanding--from frozen hot chocolates in the Summer to the Pumpkin Spice in Fall and the Mayan hot chocolate on those frosty Saturday mornings. The German chocolate cake is delicate in flavor--not overly sweet with coconut filling and a tacky chocolate icing--it is worth the 5 stars--and I walk out if it is not in stock. They just fell a little short of my expectations. I loved the wide selection of chocolates especially the French Broad chocolate from Asheville, North Carolina. However, the "drinking chocolate" was far from perfect. It tasted watered down compared to the best Chicago has to offer. Furthermore, the experience and service was lackluster. The people behind the counter seemed to care less about us or even chocolate, sadly. If you store is going to specialize in one ingredient, then I think your employees should really know it! read more

Run don't walk!! Found this place through Instagram. My boyfriend and I went to get the Oreo ice cream sandwich- it was the most insane ice cream sandwich ever. We were so sad when it was over! Absolutely love this new addition to the hood. I work out of here in the back and the staff is always accommodating, even when I'm there for a couple of hours :). Their green tea is my fave! They also have some yummy chocolate items, which I picked up a few as gifts for the person you want to get them something but you don't know exactly what to get them or the price point you should spend. read more

The coffee was La Colombe and that is good coffee. The pastry looks pretty good and the space is comfortable. I was waiting to go to a meeting and wanted to have a coffee and read. This worked well. My only trouble was the cashier made a comment on my using $2 bills. She did not like the $1 coins either. I have a club on Facebook called The Two Dollar Bill Club. I take remarks about my favorite bill to heart. This was a good place but if they would rather have a charge card that they pay a fee for instead of my $2 bill, I then guarantee that they will never get another one from me. This place is great - I love the matcha lattes! Workers are super sweet, the only reason I'm giving four stars is because there is no option to tip when you pay with card! A cute cafe that has different kinds of hot cocoa, coffee and chocolate. I tried the Mayan Magic hot chocolate which was quite tasty and has a spicy kick to it. There was an interesting selection of chocolate bars of different flavors and concentration, and they sold several chocolate pieces such as a s'mores chocolate. There weren't as many as I thought there would be though. Overall, there's a nice quiet atmosphere, the place is very clean and he staff are very nice. Would come again! read more

Delightful. If you usually drink hot chocolate and miss the good old days of Chantico, this is the place for you. With a full variety of delicious, albeit pricey, chocolate bars, drinks, and pastries, they should rename it Chocolate Heaven. read more

A fantastically pleasant surprise that my wife, son and I discovered roughly six months ago. Since then we've attended several more times when we find ourselves in the area. Cocoa + Co. is a warm, friendly establishment with endless wonderful chocolate products. I must confess that I don't remember the name of the various treats we've tasted, although one simply can't go wrong with any of the delights at Cocoa + Co. I make sure to purchase a few extra chocolate bars and ship them with care packages to our daughter when she is away at university. I would strongly recommend speaking with the owner, who is amazingly knowledgable and passionate about cocoa. read more

We ended up swinging by Cocoa and Co. to get some hot beverages both days that we were in Chicago. It's got a relatively innocuous storefront, and street parking in particular is hard to find, but it will be worth your time. The folks behind the counter are pretty friendly, and, as the store name suggests, there are all manners of chocolate abound. The hot chocolates in particular are excellent...we got a traditional hot chocolate that had a very creamy, silky taste to it. The Mexican hot chocolate is possibly even better, as the pepper really gives it a zest...definitely good for you if you are under the weather. I also went with one of the snacks here, and the milk chocolate-covered smores bite was excellent - maintaining all the goodness of a regular smore, but with really good chocolate encasing it. The only thing I was not as huge a fan of was the lemonade, largely because it was prepared using a syrup. However, I really liked how it is served as a slushie - as such, when it melts, it has the right amount of sweetness without being diluted (which would happen if you were served lemonade with ice). There are lots of other bites here we did not try, but I would definitely come back to sample more of the snacks and chocolates (hot and otherwise). It's got a nice, airy, unpretentious feel to it, and it's a great spot to get a sweet treat. read more

Me and my sister-in-law had a few minutes to spare on our parking meter. We looked around and made a quick decision on what cute shop we should stop by to get a snack. We decided on Cocoa & co. As soon as we walked in we were hit with an amazing smell I smiled at the gentleman and he nodded back and said smells good. We were a bit overwhelmed with all the wonderful decisions I decided to tell the gentleman it was our first time here assuming he would kind of guide us around. I was wrong he had a flat and super bored face through the whole time. He wouldn't stop staring at me and my sister-in-law while we were looking at the menu signaling us to kind of hurry up. There was a woman that came out from the back glass to help other people that came in. She as well looked very unhappy and was a bit rude to the other people. When the other people came in, we were still looking at the menu so the gentleman told them in a very bland voice "can I help you with anything, or do you want anything?" What!? RUDE Long story short the place has so much potential, it is very pricey but totally worth it. Tiny but friendly coffee and sweets place. It's not a bad place to grab a quick coffee during the afternoon or evening rush hour. Not a lot of space, so if they get any amount of traffic you're not gonna get to sit. I hoped for a little more out of this cute place. For starters, it's totally adorable, and looks like a fabulous place to find a gift. Lots of different and unique treats. There is also a little private table in the back where they do tastings, and tea, which I would totally do with friends. However- of the 3 things my husband and I tried, 2 were a bit of a letdown. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie was AMAZING. Like... really really delicious. I would buy again in a heartbeat. No regrets. I tried a drinking chocolate (I think the Parisienne) and honestly, it was tasty but I was underwhelmed. I expect drinking chocolate to be really thick and rich. This was more like hot cocoa. Too liquidy. I don't know if it's always like that but I was surprised by a) how big the cup was (usually it's tiny) and b) how thin it was. Not my favorite. But if it was a cocoa, tasty for sure. I also tried the s'mores stack and I did not really enjoy it. The marshmallow layer was not... marshmallow-y. It was thicker, not bouncy, more like a cream or a nougat? I dunno. Husband also tried and agreed with me. We left it unfinished. I dunno. It's super adorable, and I am sure I would go back (hence the 4 stars) but I wish I loved it as much as everyone else seems to. read more

My favorite features of this little chocolate cafe: La Colombe coffee, Vegan donuts from Fritz pastry, most of the chocolate bars are DAIRY FREE, the drinking chocolates can be made with almond milk instead of dairy, and its rotating selection of soups. Chocolates are scrumptious and their original drinks are pretty good. However I wanted to read a book and sip and I felt it was a get your drink and scoot kind of a place- though it was well decorated and had some tables in a corner. But all said, the cocoa is definitely recommended and will make you a fan. read more
