The lines at the restaurants across the street were 1+ hour wait on a Saturday night. The friends we were visiting never "did" Sushi. We noted this place across the street & decided to Guide them into the SUSHI experience. This place was a nice find - we are from the San Francisco Bay Area & great SUSHI is everywhere. Friendly greeted - all tables filled so decided the BAR area - which is very roomy. The Sushi was very good - and our friends delved into some of the "less fish relevant" Sushi - like Tempura, Miso Soup, Unagi, etc ... to START. Then we coaxed them into things like Tobiko. They really liked their first SUSHI experience. (Our observations though: Kind of Pricey - Tekka Maki was very "small", the Unagi was sort of cold when it came, the service in between orders seemed to take a long time - longer than we're used to, even though by that time there were very few patrons.) Our friends liked it so much that they said they'd return with the menu that we noted the items we had that night. Good find ! read more

We are from the DC area and have to admit that this is the best sushi we've had. Every one of the special rolls is better than the next. And, you can never go wrong with any of the nightly specials. The fish is the freshest. Creative combinations allow the layers of flavors to come through in every bite. The Chefs are experienced and the wait staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. read more

Food was good... that's all the was good. Service was horrible, the amount of time it took was awful, and paying was such a hassle. We had a group of 10 and were not able to split the check due to a "scam" going on throughout the area. He also claimed that no other restaurants were splitting checking anymore, yet on a review I read someone else complained about them splitting their check wrongly. read more

First, the sushi was amazing but the service is the reason for this one star review. My family and I came to this establishment for dinner. Yes there was 12 of us but the restaurant was at a lower capacity. First, we asked about separate checks and the response from the waiter was "there has been a scam going through the area that they will not accommodate" which in our experience through the week no restaurants have mentioned this or denied us at all. Second, after putting all our orders in the waiter stated he would be putting them in "staggered" needless to say my whole family received and ate their complete meals and I still didn't have my meal. All the food was delicious! I ordered the miso soup as well as the tuna, salmon, and eel rolls and was not disappointed.

Good quality tasting sushi. Only negative is their portion size is super small. We will try somewhere else next time.

We had a chance on a Tuesday night, first time to stop in, and it was great! We were immediately acknowledged and greeted, and were able to be seated right away (just starting the season so it wasn't packed yet). The draw was the $5 apps, but I chose other items from the wonderfully designed menu. There was something for the not-so-adventurous (such as my friend) and this CaliGirl die-hard sushi eater. I loved their menu. It was unpretentious, and the simple descriptions were spot on. I knew I was in a sushi restaurant and not some fusion-inspired place. No identity crisis here! The sashimi was so fresh, the choice of sakes honorable, and mochi ice cream followed by a plum wine topped off a most enjoyable meal. Definitely worth repeat visits. Friendliest staff I've ever encountered at any sushi bar and that means alot. They supports local student art. It's a clean quiet spot, good sushi. Enjoyed multiple dinners here over the course of summer and early September. Got to sample a variety of rolls. Delish. every. time. A genuine Japanese sushi chef - a rare find. A surprising pocket of excellence in Bethany Beach. Cocolo matches some of the finest restaurants I have been to in Japan, Hong Kong and New York City. The light and airy authentic tempura was an especial delight when most places drown the shrimp in heavy batter. They are not cheap, but if you enjoy sushi and tempura, they are worth every penny. read more

This was our first visit to Coholo because we waited until the "season" was over and crowds diminished. I only regret that we waited so long! Having lived in Japan, we were anxious to try Coholo, and it was like a visit "home". Kirin on draft....need I say more! After one spoonful of Miso soup I felt I'd been transported back to Tokyo. The shrimp and vegetable Tempura was so light and fried perfectly. The Gyoza, so delicious. We can't wait to go back. read more

I don't even know what to start with the fact that I'm still starving after paying $21, that Ray our server split our checks incorrectly, or the fact that he spoke 2 words to my party the entire time in the restaurant. We asked him simply to put $28 in cash $28 on the second card and the rest on the other. My meal should have cost $13 instead I was charged $21. He not only didn't do it correctly but when we asked him to he didn't respond. Moral of the story terrible service, and I'm still starving because our $13 roll came with 6 pieces of sushi. read more

Tourist here. We visited Cocolo on our last day of vacation and the interior is surprisingly nice, save for a desperate need for wall art. Immediately greeted and sat, and our server was Patrick, a friendly 22 year old resident of Bethany. He was very knowledgeable on the specials, which we ordered. Dragon Roll, Dancing Eel, Volcano, with Miso, Gyoza and Lettuce Wraps. Everything was great, especially that Dragon Roll. Rolls could've been bigger, but I'm used to Midwest sushi. Friends had recommended me Cultured Pearl but I would insist on Cocolo every time. read more

I will never ever use this establishment again. I placed an order through DoorDash. 3 minutes before the arrival time I got a text saying that "cocolo has canceled your oder." When I called the VERY RUDE woman on the phone said, "oh we are busy so we decided not to accept our DoorDash orders." When I asked, "why did you wait an hour before canceling?" She said, "oh well that's not my job." And hung up. I am so dissatisfied with not only their customer service, but the but fact that they waited until the time of my expected delivery to cancel. The head Sushi Chef/Owner is top notch, having worked at and run several of the top Japanese restaurants in the DC and beach area. The Sushi was amazing. We especially loved the Firecracker Roll. Arrived at 6:30 PM without a reservation and the 5 of us were immediately seated by the friendly hostess. Our waiter, Anthony, arrived immediately and provided drink and food menus and told us the days specials. We ordered drinks and a variety of appetisers. The gyoza was excellent as was the tempura, the tuna with chips and the fried beef (I can't remember the name of it). We also ordered several sushi rolls, the big Hawaiian, California roll, the OC roll and a tuna sashimi roll. They were all very good. The place was not real busy and I hope they can make it. The food was excellent, prices reasonable and service friendly and efficient. What more could you want??? read more

Thankfully, a new sushi place popped up in the area. The other place needed a little competition. The location hasn't had a lot of success, but if word gets out that this is the best suushi in town, they'll do fine. Service is friendly and prompt. The have good specials. The fish is perfect. Portions are about average, which makes it a little pricey but well worth it if you're a true connoisseur. I highly recommend Cocolo. Get in early or make a reservation if you're going after 6pm. read more

We ordered 6 rolls for take out and they were the tiniest rolls I've ever seen. All 6 fit into a small box, and my husband, not believing all 6 were inside made them open it up and show him. Sure enough, they were in there! We spent $60 for 6 simple (non specialty) rolls and the 3 if us were still hungry! Definitely way overpriced for such little rolls! read more

My wife and I ate here for the second day in a row and loved everything we had. The Japanese fried chicken was spicy and delicious. The yellowfin tuna was outstanding. Service was great. We recommend getting a table where you can watch the chef/owner prepare the sushi. Fast hands, sharp knives, and deep knowledge. The moshi ice cream was a wonderful way to close the meal. Hands down, the best sushi chef from Lewes through Ocean City. This from someone who eats his way through sushi bars worldwide. Freshest fish, thoughtfully and carefully prepared. Delicious combinations of ingredients with a menu that nods, but doesn't completely succumb, to (in my opinion) the unfortunate craving the American palate seems to have for the slathering of mayo and the liberal sprinkling of tobiko bits on all their sushi options. This man takes his art seriously, has pride in his work, and won't be sending inferior product out your way. This level of detail requires skill, love, and time. Doubt me? Stumbled upon Cocolo Sushi on a quick overnight in Bethany and we cannot wait to return. The menu goes far beyond typical sushi fare and our knowledgeable and friendly server made some great suggestions. Example: monkfish liver, delicate and divine. Do not miss the Bethany roll: fresh scallop, avocado and habanero masago, the spice balanced by sweetness of the scallop. On our way out, we saw more dishes we wished we'd ordered. We arrived to a mostly empty restaurant and were greeted by 2 hostesses who appeared to be on their first day on the job. They couldn't figure out where to seat us so they decided to put us at a too small table in the corner. We ordered 10 rolls for 4 people. The rolls arrived and were TINY. The 5th person in our party ordered sashimi which was paper thin. We finished the incredibly small portions and were told by the waitress that most people order 3-4 rolls. If we had been told that when we ordered, we may have ordered more rolls which I guess would have doubled our bill. Buyer beware. We will not go back. read more
