Got to the restaurant at 8, and did not get our food until after 9 o'clock pm. The service was non existent. Our server just stopped coming to our table, and the hostess had to serve us. I called at 6pm to see if they can handle a party of 2. she said no wait and they don't take reservations. Good sushi is hard to come by. But cocolo sushi IS one of those good places. I went here for dinner on a Friday night and had a wonderful meal with my mother. Our waitress was attentive, polite, and engaged in conversation with us. The manager/owner also came to check on us twice during the meal! We ordered the lump California roll and their special of the night roll which was tempura shrimp with salmon and crab on top. Both very tasty. The only complaint I would have would be that the rolls were small in size. Very good, but small. The two of us could have eaten another roll for sure. They also had Kirin on draft (usually you just get a bottle of it) and had a great dessert menu. So I got two beers, edamame, two rolls, and a dessert and our total was around $45 dollars. Cocolo Sushi is the best authentic sushi restaurant in Delaware. We originated in Connecticut where we had exposure to good sushi restaurants in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. When we found Cocolo Sushi, we felt as if we were home in an authentic Japanese restaurant. The restaurant is small but laid out well and the sushi stove is visible from all seats. There are specials every single day and each one is more interesting and tasty. The fish that is available is always very fresh and very flavorful and the rolls that are available are extensive. this is Our go to Restaurant at least once a week. We could not recommend it more highly. The service staff is exceptional between Wes and Jen who know the menu exceptionally well, always make us very comfortable when we are there. During season reservations are very tough to obtain but interestingly enough they do have walk-in for a limited few tables but best to get to the restaurant very early when it opens at 4:30. The sushi here is very good, but the rolls here are extremely small. So small that we almost felt like we were getting a bad deal. The sushi was normal prices for the area which is a little expensive but if you want sushi expect to pay up. The quality of the fish was very good which is why I put the review to 4 stars. We had one piece of fish that was fishy but not enough to turn us off. We had a very good server but other than her the place even though beautiful and brand new, was a little emotionless. The place however was spotless and clean. So clean that you could eat off the floor. No...really...I did eat off the floor when i dropped some of my fish. I didn't even care since this place is so clean. I'm sad to say that we probably won't be coming back here mostly due to the size of the rolls. I understand maximizing profit but rice isn't too expensive. Just put more on each roll to fill me up. I had the sushi AND sashimi platter and was still hungry. Absolutely amazing! We are not from the area and wanted to try sushi from here especially if it featured fresh crab (a rarity in our native New England). Wait staff was incredibly nice and welcoming. Our server was attentive and walked us through the menu and specials. He was personable and offered his opinions on the dishes but never pushed anything on us. We started with shrimp shumai and the poke. The server offered us the wonton chips since we were debating on other apps that had it but the poke did not. A nice little gesture. The fish in the poke was incredibly fresh with great flavor. The shumai tasted homemade and had a nice oil based dip alongside. For our meal we went with some of their signature rolls and a couple of nigiri pieces. Our server was able to accommodate a special request and get jalapenos on exactly half of one of the rolls. Another nice gesture that shows that this place puts customers first. As for the rolls themselves, we shared a few special rolls as well as their popular dynamite roll with fresh crab on top. Needless to say we were very satisfied with all of the rolls we chose. I don't recall the names but I really enjoyed the one that featured eel on top and shrimp tempura in the center. The dynamite roll was also a favorite of ours. So much so that we had to order another one before we left. All in all I wish we lived closer just to have this all of the time. This is honestly some of the best sushi I've had in a casual setting. Many reviews I've noticed complained about the size of the sushi pieces. Our nigiri pieces were appropriate sizes (as well as delicious). I will say the rolls themselves are a bit on the small side but that allows you to try different rolls and dishes and to also truly taste the quality of the fish and other ingredients. When sushi restaurants offer large rolls they are usually packed with cheaper fish and surrounding by lots of low quality rice. As someone who has eaten a lot of sushi, both affordable and high end, I'll just say that this is a really special place. We ordered sushi from Cocolo this evening and were disappointed by the serving size to price ratio. The dynamite rolls (2 pictured) were very small with majority rice. The other two rolls pictured were more reasonably sized. We paid $49 total for this dinner and the chicken appetizer.
