Phenomenal hidden gem! This is our second time here, and it hit just as good! The menu offers amazing variety between Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and more. There's a good variety in the cocktail/beer/wine menu too. My husband and I got the salt pepper shrimp, which came with peppers and onions. It was butterflied and breaded super well, and was fresh and crispy! It also had a good balance of spice and salt. The beef in the lo mein was so tender and juicy. I feel like sometimes other places give the tiniest thin slices, but this is almost like small pieces of steak. It's a great portion for 2-4 people depending on how many items you order. The pork belly bowl was also outstanding. It was on a bed a rice that soaked a ton of the flavor. It came with zucchini and bok choy, which was a great fresh flavor to balance the belly. We made a last minute reservation and were seated super quickly. The service was so friendly from our server who was an owner and the bartender too. The food came out quick and hot, we were always checked on (but not hovered over). It was amazing to see how many regulars seemed to be there and familiar with the owners and workers too! When you enter, the sushi/bar is the first room. If you want sit down dining room, continue passed the bar and wait to be seated in a lovely room. Both Chinese and sushi are served in the dining room. I would have given 5 stars, but because my husband felt his dinners' flavor grew tiring after half way through. He ordered Chicken Phoenix which had vegetables, shrimp, chicken and cashews. Vegetables were al dente, flavor was good, but didn't hold interest through the entire meal. I ordered Shrimp with candied pecans which was made with a light mayo based sauce and uniquely delicious. The shrimp were HUGE and very tasty! We also ordered a shrimp tempura roll which was SO good, wanted more. Service was attentive when we needed anything. We've come here off and on over last 14 years and good to see quality has not declined, though we noticed less options on the menu compared to years ago and as with everywhere, price is more, but for quality dinner we don't mind. read more

Rice House is my favorite restaurant in the area! I have allergies to gluten (celiac disease) and dairy so my options for eating out are limited. I have been coming to Rice House for years. They can make SO many items gluten free and cater to any allergy. They are very cautious and look at every single ingredient. I never have to worry when I come here. Everything I've had is delicious. We had an excellent dinner. We started with the Tagarashi Edamame and loved the spice, Smokey and just the right amount of heat. I ordered the Thai Shrimp noodles and substituted fried tofu for the shrimp. The kitchen was very accommodating in my request. The dish was excellent, the broth was such a good Unami flavor and not too salty. My daughter got the vegetable noodle soup and the miso broth was great. Yum! We loved the music, early 90's-early 2000, and it was nice that it wasn't noisy and we could have a conversation at a normal tone...even though every table was seated! We will def be back. read more

What is this ? I ordered beef lomein why too much sauce on it looks like a lomein curry. Ordered fried rice nothing on it so plain just shrimp and rice only. Bought some sushi not so wow but prices are high as if they are a fancy restaurant who sells A1 food. When i ate their food it doesnt taste less than a cheap chinese carryout. Has always been a favorite but was a little disappointing last night. Initial service was great, we were seated promptly, hot tea and a soft drink arrived shortly after. We were not served the traditional fried wontons with assorted sauces. Restaurant was not busy with only 2 other tables occupied. Our waitress then disappeared for 15 minutes before taking our order. My companion and I each ordered a specialty roll with 2 spicey tuna rolls. They arrived 15 minutes later and made a nice presentation. One small serving of their terrific wasabi required a request for more immediately. Too bad the Chef only cut them into 6 pieces instead of 8. The pieces were so large they had to be eaten in 2 bites which is very messy. Not our best experience and have seen better on a busier night. read more

This was one of the best meal experiences I've had in Ocean City in a long time! My best friend and I came in for dinner to celebrate Valentine's Day. The food here is always excellent, but on this day they went above and beyond with service too. We ordered the Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Steamed Dumplings, Hunan Chicken and a special Chicken dish on their holiday menu. All were fabulous - but my favorite is still my regular order - Chicken and Shrimp with Garlic Sauce. The Chef Mr.B came out to make sure everything was great - he asked every table. Then he came out with roses and gave one to every woman in the restaurant. At the end of the meal, we were given complimentary chocolate covered strawberries. Pros: our server was wonderful and very helpful. We felt as if she made our experience even better for our first time being there. The atmosphere is really nice although it is a bit difficult to read their menu in the lighting they have BUT we fixed it with our phone flashlights. They have a good amount of selections from their menu Cons: it's a hit or miss in some of their meals or options. Sometimes the price is worth it and sometimes it just isn't. I wouldn't recommend this place only because I find that there may be a better alternative such as Bluefish or sushi or Asian cuisines in Ocean Pines BUT I wouldn't stop anyone from coming. If the price doesn't scare you no matter the portion or quality of food you're getting, then go for it. If you just want to give it a try, I say go for it too. read more

We had another exquisite dinner at Rice House tonight. The Korean wings (on special) we had last week were so fabulous we were thrilled to see they were available again. (This is a culinary masterpiece imho) We had the always delicious ribs. And then we tried some new dishes: the crispy shrimp bao buns (now our new favorite!) pad Thai (hands down the best version we've ever tasted) and the Thai sushi roll (very nice) We feel SO fortunate to live near a restaurant with this level of sophisticated preparation and variety. If I could give 0 star, I would. If you are Asian, don't go here. Even though it's an Asian restaurant, Asians are not welcome. The waitress was extremely rude to us. We felt racially discriminated because she was nice and friendly to other non Asian customers in the restaurant. When we were waiting to be seated, the waitress did not greet us, looked at us disgusted, didn't say a word, and just put the menus on the table. We had two small kids but she didn't ask if we needed a high chair. We waited at our table awhile but no one came to our table. I felt like we were completely ignored (pretty much the whole staff was like this). This really ruined our vacation mood so we walked out to go to another restaurant. My wife and I have been here twice in the past few weeks. On both occasions, the service has been friendly and efficient and the food delightful. At the start of the meal, the server brought out a bowl of fried noodles. Both my wife and I were pleasantly surprised; these noodles were not only light and fluffy but also not in the least bit oily. I would have liked to start with a bowl of Hot & Sour soup, my favorite; however, oddly, on both visits, they had run out! I accept that it's a peccadillo of mine but I form my first impression of every Chinese restaurant based upon the distinctiveness, or lack thereof, of their Hot & Sour soup. One of these days... On our first visit, I ordered a few maki (roll) sushi and my wife the sesame chicken (she's addicted...). All of my rolls had generous amounts of fresh fish. The wife's chicken was similarly remarkable: the chicken only had a light coating of batter unlike the typical Chinese restaurant fare. Rice House charged a dollar extra for an only white meat order but it was well worth it. While my wife again indulged in the sesame chicken on our second visit, I tried the kung pao tofu. Most Chinese restaurants give short shrift to their vegetarian entrees. I'm glad to say that Rice House is not among them! It was excellent. Their beverage selection is similarly noteworthy. The menu has no fewer than five types of sake. Of more personal interest, they offer several types of what I was told are house-blended teas. While I didn't sample any of these, their (unsweetened) iced tea tasted similar to barley teas that I've had before. For a change of pace, give it a try. Finally, be sure to ask for fried rice on the side. The Rice House seems to prepare their fried rice in a fashion similar to many Japanese steakhouses (tepan yaki) -- or at least the flavors and textures are akin to it: light but not sticky, slightly browned, with each ingredient standing on its own. It's a comfort food recipe that I've never been able to replicate at home in the kitchen. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Ocean City, MD! This place is a bit off the beaten path however it's well worth the drive. The restaurant is located an 1/8th of a mile from Rt. 50 close to the inlet drawbridge. Once there, you'll be greeted by their awesome staff; Mr. B is usually cooking in the kitchen and the Mrs. is charming everyone who walks through the door. As far as their food, it's a mix of Chinese and Japanese cuisine. The kids usually order lo mein of fried rice but us adults order the specials which are truly incredible. I have enjoyed the likes of Cod stuffed with crabmeat with a miso butter sauce, a huge chunk of Tuna stuffed with crabmeat, a phenomenal Chilean Sea Bass and many other great entrees. They also serve incredible sushi! I would definitely order the austin roll, the dragon roll, the volcano roll and the dynamite roll; you won't be disappointed! Folks, the Rice House Bistro is a great place to eat. It is truly a hidden gem and the locals flock to it. We found it by happenstance when my wife went to get her nails done 2 years ago and have consistently gone there to eat since then. Wine glasses were dirty and server brought my appetizer before my friends. So I have to wait for hers while mine sat in front of me and got cold. The sushi was of the poorest quality I've ever had. Granted it was only $10.99 but I've had better sushi at Chinese buffets so it's not an excuse. If your going to make a deal with the sushi, price higher instead of giving lower quality just to balance out profit. The sushi had so much rice and veggies and a hint of meat. The avocado was bigger that the crab meat. Edamame was over cooked and I just wasn't happy with anything. I won't be coming back. read more

We have been coming to the Rice House for years. The seaweed salad, cucumber roll and asparagus roll are our favorites. We have been to OC Wasabi and it was quite disgusting to see their sushi case/refrigerator very dirty on the outside where the guests sit. The Rice House is very clean and their decor is modern.
