In a city of 400,000+, there's about 5 good Mexican places. And, they all seem to be hole in the walls. Coco Renos is that quintessential hole in the wall. Super small, it is attached to a bar, but has it's own, separate entrance. Delicious tortilla soup. And burritos with high quality meat. The prices aren't cheap, but who on Yelp wants to eat cheap meat anyways? All I gotta say is, high quality, quick Mexican food. Decent Mexican "hole in the wall" off of Broadway & Redondo. I really enjoyed their tasty nachos... They're pretty bomb! The atmosphere here is neat because it's intimate - it's tiny, but there is a unexpected connected bar in the next room where you can bring your food and drinks to. I like the set up a lot. There isn't much seating, so good luck if you go in at a busy time. Service was quick and attentive. They also bring you yummy chips and salsa to the table. Worse experience ever. I popped in for some Mexican food and a margarita and was given a raspberry "frozen" margarita which was pretty just blended ice in a dirty glass. I had my boyfriend Send it back to just get a margarita on the rocks and the bartender just blended the same drink up and add a huge amount of raspberry. I called the waitress over and said I'm sorry I don't want this drink. She offered to change it for something else and I was so disappointed at that point I didn't want any drink at all. So I finish my food with no drink or even water. then my boyfriend goes to the bar to close out the tab so we can leave and The bartender still had the frozen margarita on the bill. They had a conversation and she pretty much said nope I made the drink u can't take it off the tab. The frozen drink was still sitting at the bar collecting flies...she basically charged us for a drink that sat at the bar. I asked to speak to a manager and waited for 15 min and no one came out to resolve the issue. So a waisted saturday afternoon with cold food and charged to something I didn't even get. read more

There's no shortage of Mexican food in Long Beach, but Coco Renos is worth a try. I really like the laid back atmosphere of this joint, whose inside closely resembles a beachy food stand. It is kind of tiny, but luckily we weren't there during peak hours. There's even a pool table in the back room, and I was told - a bar? Didn't go back there to check though. Before we ordered, the waitress promptly brought us chips and salsa. The salsa was made in house, and really good! I decided on a Wet Fish Burrito ($7.75). Having your burrito slathered in enchilada sauce makes it taste 10 times better. For under $8, you get a very hefty serving that will satiate the hungriest of people. Just stopped in for my blackened mushroom fix. Again, as always , FANTASTC!!!! I had not been her in 6 months, WTF?!?!?!? What was i thinking????? So I glad I stopped by to see the "New Look". The re-did the coubter tops with these super cool "Loteria" tiles and they are the cool "old school" versions like when I usta play them camping when i was a child with my familia there is also a real cool mural and new paint!!!!! LOOKS SUPER COOL!!! Its always so nice to come back to a place and get the same warm welcoming, great service and INCREDIBLE FOOD everytime. The is a very quaint little mexican restaurant. Seating is limited but they do have takeout. Fortunately we were able to get a seat at one of the tables. Our server brought us chips and salsa almost immediately after we were seated. That's a great start! I ordered the Chili Relleno. I'm very picky when it comes to Rellenos! I don't like overly battered chili's, just ruins the concept. NOT HERE!! The Chili Relleno was AMAZING. PERFECT!! I'm a light eater so it says something when I eat the whole Chile Relleno! All of it. I did get the combo but with all beans. The beans were tasty, definitely home made, no can beans for sure. I'm going to order the Shrimp Salad next time. I saw it pass the table, looks good. Can't wait.. One warning.. there's one hot sauce on the table to avoid, unless you can handle extreme heat going in and out!! It's delicious but the heat punch gets your lips and mouth burning. I've given this place a few chances. The girls are more rude than friendly, I think only one of the girls has been nice to us. But the main reason why I just can't eat there is because of the cooks!!! They go out on the back and smoke or whatever and they don't wash their hands. Ok maybe some of them might.. but they don't wear gloves and they touch the food then put it on the plate. For example if you get a taco they just put their hand in their lettuce container and grab it with their hand and put on the food. Use gloves people! you are touching so many things and then touch the food that you are serving. Disgusting. read more

My favorite vegan burrito in Lb, I always get mushroom & tofu. BEST tasting tofu I've had. The texture is perfect. Well worth the price & pick up is quick. But... The chips 80% of the time are a little stale (I order her at least twice a month)and the guac (while still good) is turning more brown than green. Other than that, I absolutely love this spot. We came in on a mildly busy night on a Saturday and they only had one server which was this white middle age lady. We walked in and the server said "I'm not going to have you guys sit there" because the table sat 4 and there was 5 of us. She was so rude and told us to go to the bar. When we sat down, the table was really dirty and asked the server if we can get it wiped down. She said she wants to get our drink orders first before she wipes it down so we get water. She comes and drops off only 3 waters and then went to the bar to talk to her friends and didn't bother to get the rest of the water cups. That's when we had it with her rude attitude and poor service. We left without trying the food. Would never recommend this place. This place can be a bit hard to find and it's quite a small place. I will say that their complementary salsa sauce that comes with their salsa chips is much spicier than other places. I tried out the tofu and blackened mushroom tacos. It didn't feel like the tofu mixed well with the taco, but was still enjoyable nonetheless. I'm kicking myself for not coming here a long time ago considering I just live down the street. It's attached to the Reno Room which we frequent on a weekly basis but every time we hit this spot, it's always after dinner from somewhere else...shame on me! It's a nice little hole-in-the wall place (only has about 4 tables) but the food is de-licious. Wet burritos are monstrous and tasty, chili relleno is a good choice and the mountain of nachos topped with melted cheese, refried beans, sour cream, guac, and jalapenos are my favorite! Even the complimentary chips and salsa are tasty. I have yet to try their famous margaritas so believe I'll be coming back for those. read more

I used to always order carne asada burritos at other burrito/taco stands, but saw that they have a Deluxe Vegetarian Burrito here so I decided to try it out. I must say...it was huge and very delicious without any meat. Definitely worth trying out if you are willing to try something different. A few friends mention I try Coco Renos as I live in the neighborhood but I was skeptical because it looked like a dive. Indeed it is. Here are my problems with the establishment: 1. Incredibly cramped quarters up against a very hot kitchen. The temperature felt like 90F in there and there were no seats with back. One has to sit on a stool back to back. Incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. I was going to move to the bar where they will serve you which had some booths. But the trashy smell from all the smokers hanging out outside was nauseating. 2. The music was horribly loud. I had an ear ache from it and when I asked the waitress if they could turn it down.. she actually said "No.. deal with it." WOW lack of manners, tact or customer services. 3. The food was incredibly mediocre and I actually found a hair in my burrito. The place did not look sanitary.. and I actually did get gas and stomach cramps from the food. I eat Mexican regularly and Never had this happen at other establishments. 4. The margarita was beyond terrible. Tasted like cheap sugary kool aid. And apparently the waitress does not know the difference between on the rocks and blended. 5. The chips were greasy horrible. 6 The main problem is health sanitation. I was disgusted that that cooks do not wear hair nets, or wash their hands. It looked filthy. 7. Price not right. I spent about 8 dollars more than at Wahoo's and there I'm treated with respect and they make up the entrees for my vegan diet. I asked at Coco Renos for a simple vegan burrito.. and apparently the staff doesn't understand that means no cheese or sour cream. I know I'm not the only vegan in Long Beach. I'll stick with Wahoo's in the LB Market place for fast service, or Acapulco's for ambiance. and my suggestion is avoid Coco Renos unless you want food poisoning. read more

On Labor Day, a drunk driver had run through the front window of Long Beach Pizza and Jack's on Broadway, Manaow and Olives Grocer were all closed so we stepped into Coco Renos. It's very tiny inside - about 4 tables unless you want to sit in the shuttered darkness of the Reno Room. There's a window A/C running in there, but I don't think it's doing anything. We ordered a dry black bean, rice and cheese burrito and two Baja tacos to go. Service was friendly. Price isn't too bad at $15 not including tip, but food was kind of indifferent. Mom and I both said "it was okay." Will try something different next time. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. read more

Amazing Taco Tuesday deals! $1.50 tacos and $3 margaritas!!! I've been here twice now and both times the food was delicious and vegan friendly! It's hard to find rice and beans that don't have lard, butter, or chicken stock and I live that my non vegan friends and I can both eat here. It's a divey bar not a fancy restaurant but I think that's part of the charm. My boyfriend and I came here on taco Tuesday and we had a burrito, two carne asada tacos, a beef and a pork enchilada, 2 margaritas and 3 modelos for $40!!!! Oh and bottomless chips. Awesome. On my recent visit to Long Beach, I naturally wanted tacos for lunch and my friend got really excited to take me here. Coco Reno's is just the kind of little hole in the wall spot that I love. The food is great, service is friendly, there's more than one iced tea option (something I rarely see outside the South), and when I mentioned casually that I can't have burritos because of the flour tortillas, our waitress told me to get a burrito in a bowl next time because their burrito fillings are awesome. Well, okay then! There are a couple of different vegetarian options, including a veggie taco and a tofu taco, veggie burritos, beans and rice, all the basics you'd normally get in a little home-style Mexican place and all of them are delicious. It's the kind of food that makes you remember why simple tacos are the actual best thing and life is good. This place is a true gem, my boyfriend and I decided to try this place during our time in Long Beach and we were so satisfied with our food and service! We got lucky as they have taco Tuesday so we decided to try their street tacos. For $1.75/ piece and some pairs the deal was a steal since we're originally from the Bay Area where street tacos in SF at the cheapest is $2.75/taco. The cashier was super friendly, warm and welcoming, the location was clean and they have excellent covid protocols in place. All staff in the kitchen wore gloves and masks and there was optimal hand sanitizer. We opted for 2 chicken tacos, 4 shredded beef tacos, 4 baja fish tacos and 2 fried fish tacos. Everything was so juicy and delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. My favorite was the shredded beef, the meat was tender and juicy, the salsa they pair with it was perfect and it came with a healthy helping of onions and cilantro. My boyfriend loved the baja fish tacos, again perfectly seasoned and cooked with a great garnish. We ordered a total of 12 tacos, with a large coke and it only cost $27!!! And to make things even better, they threw in a giant container of crunchy nacho chips and fresh salsa at no extra cost! We inhaled everything and loved every taco down to the last bite. My husband however ate 99% of it cause he likes very spicy anything. This has long been one of my favorites around town, especially when I lived down here. I don't get her often but it seems like every time I do, quality has continued to decline. I've always ordered either the shrimp tacos or shrimp fajitas. The shrimp used to be jumbo, plump shrimp, well seasoned and meaty. This go, they were small and chewy and had a bad taste; as if it was he cheapest shrimp available. Yuck. I decided to finish just the veggies and left all the shrimp.
