Oh my god is all I have to say! Brought my mom for her birthday with my friend and it was absolutely phenomenal! I believe her name was Ariel our server she was the sweetest! Gave us recommendations for so many entrees as we had no clue what to get! The bistro plate was to die for although I was not a fan of the soup spicy lentil our server said a double salad was an option and it sold me! My friend had the prime rib eye dip sandwich with this dip that was a hit! We also got a cute card for my mom's birthday and a chocolate cake that was the perfect surprise! one of my favorite spots in Laguna Beach. The food at Nick's is absolutely delicious. I genuinely DREAM about their steak sandwich. It has caramelized onions, melted cheese, and the combination is just perfect. It is seriously one of the most delicious sandwiches I've ever had. I think about it all the time and would come back just for that sandwich alone. Their vodka pasta was also really good. The flavor was definitely there, but when we went, it was missing a little bit of salt. Once you added some, it was much better. Other than that, I really enjoyed it. Now, the fried asparagus has to be one of my favorite appetizers EVER. The crunch is absolutely perfect, and the ranch dipping sauce that comes with it is so good. It's such a simple appetizer, but somehow they make it incredibly delicious. Definitely one of my must orders here. And the shrimp taquitos are another favorite. They are SO good and honestly hard to stop eating. Between the fried asparagus and shrimp taquitos, I could probably make a whole meal out of the appetizers. The service was also really good. Our waiters were very nice, and the food came out pretty quickly, so we never felt like we were waiting around for anything. The ambiance was nice and comfortable. It wasn't too loud, but it also wasn't overly quiet, so it had a good balance. We sat outside, which was nice, although next time I would probably choose indoor seating. That was totally my fault because I forgot to specify that I wanted to sit inside when we arrived. Overall, I really love Nick's. Food at Nick's is usually very consistent. I typically order the Bistro Plate or some other Meat dish and it is cooked to perfection every time. Their Asparagus fries are also one of my favorites. Service is always intimate and outstanding, servers always seem well seasoned and experienced. I absolutely love the ambiance at Nick's it's very unique and it seems like the restaurant is kept well. I give it four stars only because I feel like their menu has some strengths, but the rest of the food is alright. read more

I went to Nick's on 2nd for lunch with family that came up from San Diego for a day visit. I have been to Nick's a few times and the food always hits the mark! I have never had a bad meal here. Today I had Cha Cha's Spicy Rigatoni and asked for blackened chicken on the side (we love protein ). It was so fresh, creamy, and cheesy with some Parmesan on top. I usually have the chicken piccata but decided to try this dish today. We also decided on butter cake for a sweet treat after our meal. Our waiter mentioned a lemon cake so of course we had to try that as well. The lemon cake was HUGE! And incredibly delicious. I am not sure if it is a regular menu item but if they mention it while you're there, it is so worth the try! The restaurant can get a little noisy inside but it's manageable. It is always very clean and the staff is really great at taking care of their customers. I would definitely recommend this spot for lunch, dinner, or even just some drinks at the bar. read more

I thought the staff was a little robotic but they were helpful and attentive. Everyone's food was delicious and filling! I had the fried chicken sammich with fries that were cooked perfectly!! We were a party of four with two appetizers (artichokes and tartar I think) and four entrees. A couple of us took leftovers so the portions were good. My friend and I made the mistake of sharing one and immediately regretted it. Lesson learned: order your own. The Baby Back Pork Ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and hefty - big enough for 1-2 people to share. The Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass was firm, flaky, and a rather small portion. Whoever said Nick's on 2nd has good food, they lied. I ordered the blackened fish sandwich, and it completely lacked flavor and seasoning. It was so bland I had to add salt just to bring it to life. Now, whoever said Nick's has the best butter cake, they were telling the truth! Ooh wee... that butter cake is GOOD. Tasty or WasteY??? A bit of both. Our first time in. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. Such a great vibe, especially for lunch time. I can only imagine how nice the dinner vibe is. My favorite things here, were the chips, salsa and guacamole. The food itself is a bit too technical! Meaning, they are adding way too many extras to try and make it different. Remember that old saying, Less is more! Try a more simple approach, so people aren't scraping ingredients off their food. Truly exceptional! Nick's is somehow elegant, casual, and fresh all at once. The food never disappoints and the staff is always on the ball. The food is so good, that I always feel fomo about the items I didn't order! I make a point to eat at Nick's whenever I'm near one of their locations. So, having been to many locations up and down the coast, I can tell you that each one nails the execution perfectly. This was my first visit to the Long Beach location. We've been to Nick's twice in the last 3 weeks. We love the food, and we have been quite pleased with the service. The Chilean Sea Bass, the sirloin, and the Bistro petite filet mignon are all most excellent! Our first visit was perfect and the ambiance was great. One aspect that was unpleasant last evening (a Monday night at 6:30) was the noise level. The restaurant was packed. It was very difficult to have a romantic dinner and chat above the loud talking and music. It hurt my ears. I'm not sure what can be done to address the acoustics other than to turn off the music. Everything else was terrific, so my advice is to sit outside during peak hours or plan your visit during an off peak time. read more

With one night in Long Beach, so happy we choose Nick's for our get together. Shrimp Taquitos were delicious as was the Scottish Salmon and the center cut filet. Great Mixologist on staff, the martinis were consistent and "on point". Definitely recommend and encourage a reservation - place was at capacity. While it can obviously get a little loud, we opted for an outside table. In hindsight if conversation is center stage, perhaps inside despite the crowd may have been a better choice - as the roadside noise in Long Beach is not for the faint of heart. Ending with service. Nick's on 2nd is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Belmont Shore. Everything I've tried here has been a solid 10/10. The food is consistently delicious and you can tell a lot of attention goes into every dish. One thing that always stands out is the plating. the presentation is spectacular and makes the whole dining experience feel elevated. The service is also consistently great, which is a big reason I keep coming back. If you're dining alone, the bar seating is perfect and comfortable, and they also have a nice outdoor patio if you prefer sitting outside. Just keep in mind that parking in the area is street parking only, which is pretty typical for Belmont Shore. My only wish is that they had a brunch menu because this would absolutely be a go-to brunch spot for me. I love Nick's so when a friend invited me to go out to Long Beach, I recommended this location. This one is in the heart of Belmont Shores. The parking is like any other metro city...street or parking garage. It's got lots of different shops and restaurants nearby. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. The server was very nice and friendly. She was helpful with selecting options from their menu. We landed on the fried chicken, prime rib dip and the shrimp taquitos. The chicken was crisp, juicy and flavorful. It came with mashed potatoes, biscuit and gravy. The prime rib dip was also good. The bread was notably fresh and soft. The shrimp taquitos were ok. One of my all time favorite restaurants to go to's for a special occasion! The ambiance is filled with great energy, very welcoming atmosphere, and amazing service that we received by Devin! I had the Chilean Seabass which was prepared just right lil crispy on the outside and buttery inside on the side were delicious mashed potatoes, and spinach. I have been here one time before. And they have great food. However this time it went wrong. I know they were busy but we were seated outside and the waiters took our unused chairs even though they had other tables to take them from. So we ended up with not being able to put our stuff on the chairs but on the table. And we intentionally ordered food with no garlic and there was still garlic on it. We explained to the hostess and she said that it is a special recipe and they don't list all the ingredients....however yes you list if there is garlic in the food and it was a lot. Overall they have a nice ambiance but ending up sitting outside feeling down prioritized with left over food on the floor wasn't pleasant. They did however not charge us for the food after we expressed our concerned. That was the only thing that is going to make me come back and give them another chance. read more

Our table also ordered the top sirloin with a loaded baked potato and asparagus, as well as the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. All three were extremely well done dishes. For drinks, I ordered my usual: Jalapeño watermelon margarita with a chili salt rim. Our server Lauren really set the high standards for future servers. She was kind and very easy going. Had an absolutely wonderful weekend brunch here with my husband to celebrate a special occasion. Because we booked a reservation in advance, we were seated right away. The staff member who showed us to our table was really friendly and welcoming. As a starter, we had the spinach & artichoke dip. I love that the tortilla chips were crunchy, fresh, and warm. The dip was baked with aged cheddar cheese - super delicious and appetizing. Also worth noting is the side of sour cream and salsa, which was great to have alongside everything else. When we finished the chips, we still had half of the dip left, so our server offered us more chips at no extra charge. This was very generous. For the main course, we ordered 2 of their house specialties. And wow, the portions of both these dishes were enormous. The chicken piccata had a thin, tasty panko crust. It was the perfect ratio of protein to panko coating, creating just the right texture contrast. A tangy, mouthwatering lemon caper sauce was poured over the chicken. On the side was whipped potatoes and a small peppery arugula & tomato salad. Every ingredient complemented each other very well. I was even more impressed with the baby back pork ribs. These beer braised ribs were super tender and easily slid right off the bone. It tasted so indulgent with their house bbq sauce. Due to the richness of the sauce, my husband and I were quickly fulfilled after eating just a couple of bites. Some crispy french fries and a yummy petite bistro salad were served on the side. The salad definitely helped balance out our meal so that it did not feel too heavy. To end things off, we received a warm, gooey chocolate cake with a candle. This was a magnificent way to acknowledge our special day. I would highly recommend this restaurant for an upscale lunch or dinner. The ambiance is lively, elegant, and modern. Hannah at the bar was great! I was third on the waitlist and when I checked in, it was still 1 1/2 wait, which is pretty insane. I was there for a business dinner, but we definitely weren't trying to wait over an hour. But with the Long Beach Grand Prix going on- we didn't want to head to downtown . Kale and Quinoa Salad Chilean Sea Bass Aged Sirloin Spicy Rigatoni Dessert: Butter cake - this was so good and indulgent. I loved the little crispy edges I went for a birthday dinner and I called ahead of time to confirm the reservation and also request towel service to surprise the bday boy with a little special touch, but this was never provided. While we were eating they prematurely took our plates and asked us several times whether we were still working on our meals, which made it feel a little rushed. It was also a little off-putting when they gave us dessert and got our check shortly after, and while we were still finishing dessert, I got asked if I provided my signature yet. I understand if folks are closing out their shifts (which Im guessing is what was happening) but appreciate when they explain this or acknowledge it when they need to ask for the signed check sooner. read more

First off, I was excited to try this spot based on other reviews. However when we got there we were added to a waitlist and it took about an hour to get off of this waitlist. We got the cha cha's pasta rigatoni. Which was priced @ $25. We ordered a side of chicken when I asked what meats they had and the prices, the waitress pointed at the top of the menu which showed the chicken priced @ $8 (by the salads). We decided to get the chicken for our pasta plate. Our experience did not meet up to par with the hype of this place. They brought out the pasta and the chicken on the side. Pasta was good and generous portion we were able to share it between 2. The chicken was over seasoned and was not our fave. When we got there I immediately told the waitress we came to celebrate my friend's birthday and when we finished eating we were brought the chocolate cake. The cake was on the house but honestly it was a bit dry. When we were brought the tab we noticed we were charged $40 for the pasta and the chicken. When we inquired about the charges, we were told that the chicken is a special kind of cut and that's why it was $15. I'm sorry but $15 for two pieces of thin chicken is a bit ridiculous especially given this chicken was over seasoned. We asked our waitress if there was a way to refund it since she had pointed to the menu that said the chicken was $8 and she said that the chicken actually was not $8 and asked if she could get us something else. We responded that we really didn't want anything else. Then she mentioned that she had already charged the card and I asked if there was a way they could just refund it. She said she would have to ask the manager and I told her to please do so. Eventually the manager came and told us it was a misunderstanding but that he would refund us the money. We were refunded the $7 and we were told today that it would take a few days to refund. I think the lack of transparency is a bit frustrating if the chicken for a pasta dinner is $15 and not $8 it should be told to the customer. Quite frankly the most frustrating aspect was the fact that we were told that the card was already charged when we were asking for a refund. The overall spot is a bit upscale, there is a huge bar in the middle and prices are reasonable. However given our experience I wouldn't be back. read more
