Cocoro was my favorite sushi spot when I went to college at UOP years and years ago, and happy to say, it tastes just as good as before! I always order their California Roll, and one of the reasons why it's one of my favorite sushi spots is they use real crab and you can definitely taste the difference. I also ordered their Tonkotsu ramen and it definitely satisfied my ramen craving that day! I feel like Stockton food can sometimes be underrated, but this is one of my favorite sushi spots in general, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who happens to be in the city! Yet ANOTHER draft that I have left unsubmitted. This is like the 4th or 5th in a row lol. One of the nicer spots in Stockton Sushi and Japanese food in general. They have a number of different rolls that I enjoy and they have special rolls from time to time as well. They have a full bar, play live sports and other shows on TV as well. Their main dining room is already pretty big but they also have an additional dining room in the back that would be great for larger groups. I can't complain about the service, while they may be busy pretty much every night (that I've been anyways), they are almost always attentive and do a good job keeping our cups filled. What really has my heart here though is their "dry ramen" it's so flavorful and texturally pleasing. Not that I have a lot of dry ramens to compare to but I really enjoy theirs. read more

I watched bartender make the 3 drinks and I knew they were for our table, my server did not bring them for about 10 minutes after they were made. Had to get his attention and ask where are our drinks? Drinks were not the worse or best. Cheaper brands used I guess.. just make my order that I order at other restaurants and it was very weak. We have been meaning to go here since the December sip and shop! So glad we did loved the vibe the owner is such a sweetheart and the staff is amazing. We sat outside on the patio because it was a beautiful day, our service was impeccable. We had two different servers who checked on us frequently and refilled our waters several times. We tried a bunch of different items and all of them were delicious. The Hawaiian delight was probably my least favorite but not because it was bad, I just didn't like the sweet flavors in the roll itself but it was cooked well. Cocoro has been a Stockton staple since I was a teenager but it had been a good long while since I'd been back after moving. The whole place gives off a great vibe with the lighting and interior all dialed in just right for the perfect ambiance. Since it had been a while I wasn't sure what to expect but I have to say cocoro exceeded my expectations on all counts. Looking at the menu, things were actually priced very reasonably, and I was also pleasantly surprised with all the portions. Wifey and I started with the pork belly and Brussels sprouts appetizer. Not going to lie, I often skip the appetizers cause at most places they're hit or miss but this was one I was very impressed with. The pork belly is cooked sous vide to get that perfect texture and then fried after for a crunchy exterior. If I had one suggestion to the kitchen it would be to fry it a little longer to get it crispier but either way it was very good. Served with pickled onions and sesame mayo it was a great start to the evening. Portion was generous and I'd order again. 8/10 Looking at the options for entrees I was really at a loss because everything sounded so good. I've had and enjoyed their sushi before but since my wife is pregnant we decided this wouldn't be a sushi mission, but we did order a spider (soft shell crab) roll for a little crunch. 7/10 Wife got the spicy ramen which we'd had before and knew wouldn't disappoint. They have an option with wagyu that I allllmost went with, next time! As far as flavor goes the ramen is delicious, though not quite as complex as some dedicated ramen houses. Upgrading to a ginger/soy marinated egg instead of a plain egg would be an easy way to elevate this as well. Overall still a great bowl of ramen that we'll continue to order, 8/10 Took me a while to decide on an entree for myself. It is almost always my habit to choose beef over other proteins but the chicken katsu sando really caught my attention and I felt I could feel and see the chef's vision. When our order arrived it was clear I made the right choice with the katsu sando. Holy- that thing is impressive! Biting into it, it was exactly what I was hoping for and then some. Wonderfully crunchy, a little sweet and tangy, juicy chicken thighs. Yes. I ended up asking for extra katsu sauce on the side which really just completed the experience making this sandwich a perfect 10/10. Loved it. Overall wife and I were super impressed with the menu, food, and service we received at Cocoro. We live in Lodi with no shortage of great Japanese cuisine, but I'm sure we'll be back within a week or so for more! read more

Super cute place in Stockton. My boyfriend lives in the area, he's been here before a couple years back but this was my first time. Super cute and intimate on the inside, with also ample outdoor patio seating. We were greeted right when we walked in and there was no wait time. We sat outside because it was beautiful outside. I will say my first complaint was the table, was wobbly. So it was teeter toting so I had to keep my food on one side to prevent that from happening. We got the Parmesan asparagus, rainbow roll, combination and 2 hand rolls, unagi and spicy scallop. The asparagus came out and it was super good! Super crunchy and good side too! The pieces were big and crunchy! I was impressed. I wanted it with spicy mayo. But let me tell you, idk why but the spicy mayo was so spicy like I had one bite and the spice was lingering and just not enjoyable anymore. So I ended up just eating it plain lol Our sushi's came out and they were good! Good flavors and the roll was bigger than I thought. More pieces than I anticipated. Presentation was good. The hand rolls were a 6.5/10 they were ok. Nothing crazy I would have liked more flavor at least. 1 hand roll is about 7$, a bit pricy so I only got 2 lol Overall presentation was good, food came out pretty fast, prices were a bit more expensive than other sushi spots and service was super nice and friendly. This was my first time at Cocoro. We were greeted by a friendly host and shown to our table. I noticed how clean the restaurant was and noticed staff cleaning stations; love this place already. Our server greeted us shortly thereafter to welcome us and to take our drink order. By the time she came back with drinks we were ready to order apps while we waited for our friends to join. The Brussels sprouts, usually not my favorite to order at other places, were fantastic! Shortly after our friends arrived our server was on the spot to greet them and offer drinks. We put our main dish orders in - they were out by the time we finished the Brussels sprouts. The food portions are huge. I took home at least half of my chicken teriyaki and rice to use with eggs the next morning for my boyfriend and I. Everyone raved about their dishes. Extra points: our dirty dishes were cleared quickly. Our server checked on us throughout our visit, even bringing another round of cocktails. My first visit but not my last! My new fave in Stockton! My husband and I are nearly weekly regulars. Don't let the wait make you impatient. Fridays seem to be the busiest between 5:30-7. We shoot for before or after their rush and don't wait longer than 20mins (excluding holidays). It's always worth the wait as Cocoro never fails. The absolute best and freshest spot in Stockton. Tammy and Johnny the owners are always so welcoming and have an excellent team providing great customer service. Even during their busiest nights the staff does their best. Shout out to Thai and Nikki always whipping up the best drinks. They know as soon as we walk in what we like to order lol. Thai is always accommodating for any drink tweaks. He's made us our own Mangoneada (mango marg with tamarindo) 10/10. Since we go so often we try to switch up the appetizers and they never disappoint. Flavors are always on point and the freshness is always great. Don't expect rolls to be slathered in sauce, cocoro's signature rolls allow you to taste the flavors of the fresh seafood that is complimented with ingredients. For non seafood eaters they definitely have entrees that are always delicious. Last night I opted for the chicken Katsu sando and it was delicious. Their cucumber kimchi they put on the side was soooo good! Oh wow and spicy crunchy rainbow are always our fav signature rolls. Today lunch consisted of 3 appetizers and a main course. The first was a new pork belly dish consisting of bite size pork belly accompanied by Brussels sprout that out numbered the pork belly 4-1 along with spicy mayo and pickled red onion. Tasty nonetheless. Next was the Shishito pepper. They are served blistered with soy sauce. You can also get them tempura. They were also tasty and non spicy. Last app was the Agedashi dōfu. Best in town imo. Always a delightful. For the main was the beef tomato curry with added chicken katsu. First time having such a dish. Didn't eat it all took most of it to go but it hit every aspect rice was fresh slightly sticky, katsu was crispy, and the curry was curring. Lol.. I was surprised by the portion size it's a hardy meal if you ask me. Anyways it comes with soup or salad. The soup is miso. I sat at the bar I was the only one at the bar so the bar attendant was great with every thing. He was server so he has great knowledge of the menu even suggested a few dishes. When we went , the atmosphere was very warm and friendly, kinda gave an early 00's fancy restaurant vibe lol. I will definitely be coming back! I got the carpaccio with Chicharron the flavor for that was like a party on my tastebuds, the meat was thinly sliced and the chicharron was crispy and not too dry, it tasted fresh! We also had the 1/2 oysters and Oml the favoring on that was immaculate, and the presentation was very lovely. It was my second favorite. Lastly we got our rolls and let me tell you the sashimi was really good and the spicy tuna roll was to die for. It had the perfect balance of spicy and freshness! You could tell all the rolls were fresh. I will definitely be come back again! This place was amazing! This was our first time here... Our daughter absolutely loves sushi, but has not really gotten to go to a place that takes the time to hand make and do them the right way. The difference was unmistakable, and she truly enjoyed her meal. The service and ambience was absolutely fantastic, everybody was super attentive and extraordinarily kind; it was dinner and they were obviously busy, but everybody took the time to come over and explain things on the menu if we did not understand or were indecisive and make sure we were doing OK throughout our meal. It was a wonderful evening, not only with regard to the food that the service that we received. Those two things are absolutely vital when it comes to the makings of a good restaurant and something worthwhile to return to. We will definitely be back. First timers! My husband and I came in on a Saturday night and although it was busy we were greeted and seated right away at sushi bar. We were sat in front of Sushi chef Chris and although he was busy he still took the time to kindly greet us and ask us if it was our first time in. It was so he offered to give us some recommendations on the menu! We ordered the Spicy Edamame, Shrimp Mango Roll and the Oh WOW Roll. The Spicy Edamame had just the right amount of spice, garlic and saltiness. It was so good we finished the whole bowl of edamame before our sushi rolls came. The Shrimp Mango Roll was sweet, tangy and delicious! The lime and cilantro with the mango made it taste so fresh! The Oh WOW Roll was so flavorful! It was spicy, sweet from the teriyaki and had a delightful crunch from seaweed salad. I loved the textures. Both rolls were super fresh and made to perfection! Also, the ambiance was nice even though it was very busy and a bit crowded. We were sat at the corner of the sushi bar so my husband and I were able to talk and hear each other comfortably. One of the better sushi spots in Stockton. It's pricy and the rolls are a bit small, but everything typically tastes fresh and the ratios of everything in the rolls are good. There is a good variety of fish types for the rolls. Food: - Tempura Asparagus - 2/5 - mostly got the hard end pieces which were impossible to chew so I had to throw away most of it. - Chili Spider Salmon - 3/5 - inconsistent quality. One time I ordered and there was no meat with the soft-shell crab it was 90% shell. The other time the salmon had skin and lots of fat on the pieces, and the cilantro was really gross and old looking with black spots all over. Otherwise it's good. - Fried California - 3/5 - mainly taste the batter and nothing else. Not worth the price. - Not a fan of the spicy aoili here, tastes strange and is a bit too hot to the point where it overpowers the food. The rest of the below are 5/5: - California roll - Rainbow Roll - El Coco Loco - Spicy sesame Seared Tuna - Tekka Maki - Spicy Tuna (good but spicier than average) Issues: - When ordering for take out they are always at least 15-20 minutes late beyond the pick up time they give you. - Delivery they ALWAYS forget to include utensils (napkins, chopsticks, etc) even when you select it within the door dash app and it also takes an extremely long time for the order prep. Overall the food here is pretty good but many things could be improved on considering the really high prices such as quality control and timing.
