It wasn't a BAD experience, but a very underwhelming and a disappointing one. - wanted a glass of white wine: they were out of at least 4 different kinds (of 6 or so) - oysters: they don't have an a la crate choice, so had to opt for a 1/2 dozen... told the server I like briny oysters - got suggested the most un-briny oysters I've ever had - truffle uni pasta: perhaps other people will have different opinions, but to me, it tasted like sweet corn cream pasta without any hint of uni or truffles at all... there was some uni and truffles actually in it, and when biting those down I will finally get the flavor. The sauce flavor isn't bad, but when you're paying more money for the uni and truffles... you can't help but feel ripped off a bit. Some parts of the pasta was stuck and uncooked too. Wow just WOW! My friend and I came in here for their dineLA dinner. I have been wanting to try their uni pasta for awhile and what a perfect way to try it is during dineLA season. Well well well... that uni pasta is BOMB! It's seriously the best uni pasta I've ever had. They put a one big piece of uni on top of the pasta and the sauce was very creamy,rich and tasty. The pasta itself was aldente- just the way I like it. Also, I got the Hokkaido scallops for appetizer and it was amazeballs! I don't really like fresh scallops but this one was love at first bite! So delish the sauce and the hint of spice over the scallops were just PERFECT We also ordered the crispy spicy tuna- I wasn't really impressed by it but definitely worth a try. I had the chocolate lava for dessert and it was okay- I think that they could do better with dessert. For cocktails I had the summer mule and it was so refreshing especially on a hot summer day! My friend and I enjoyed our dinner here. The service was excellent and the food was by far one the best seafood joint I've ever been. Omgosh, I love this place. It was my first time here. Hands down better then EMC restaurant if you have ever been, both look similar along with the menu but COD's food quality tasted much better. The staff was excellent and made it fun for us while we were dining on the Balcony 2nd level. Best uni pasta, you'll ever eat it in Los Angeles, we also ordered the 12 dozen house oysters, sushi, and garlic string beans, all were super delicious. Everything came out to $155 without tip we also order drinks too. Parking is hard to find in the area so we did valet for $10 after a certain time it go up to $20 just FYI. I went to COD for the first time last night and was not disappointed at all! In fact, I had an incredible experience! The food was incredibly fresh, the ambiance was intimate, and the server was bomb! THANK YOU NATHAN, your service knocked the ball out the park and this is coming from someone who's been in the industry for a long time. We ordered the Kumamoto oysters- which if you don't know oysters very well, they'll always remain my favorite and you have to try them to see why. The halibut carpaccio melted in my mouth with each bite - I love the citrus notes and the Yuzu in the sauce. Then comes the best part - the New Zealand Sea Bream!!! Hands down the star of the night. I've never had it before and I like to view myself as a seafood connoisseur. The white meat outshines any sea bass or branzino. The texture was so delicate and I will be coming back for it! Tried this place for dinner twice for DineLA! I wouldn't go to this place if it wasn't for DineLA because it is kinda sorta pricey. DineLA includes the uni pasta, which includes noodles that are cooked absolutely perfectly. I think it even includes truffles. fancy~ The noodles are semi bigger and have a great chew to them. The portions are pretty big so come with your appetite ready! It includes 3 courses with an appetizer, entree, and dessert. They have good drinks here too but sadly the one I wanted they ran out of... I believe it was a lavender vodka drink. But yeah, overall this place has good, fresh food and pretty good service from what I can remember! Try this place out for dineLA so you can experience a greater variety of the menu for a fraction of the price. Parking is valet unless you get lucky with street parking. I am taking off my 5 star review for this place.This is the 4th time I have been disappointed with their service.I even made it a point to bring this to the managers attention the 3rd time they messed up but still I was generous enough to give them a 4th chance.Honestly since 2016 I have been fond of this place but looks like it's getting off my list now! The drink menu is hard to read (particularly the prices) as it's like a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy, plus they didn't have most of the drinks on the menu anyway. We watched the waitress straight up argue with a table about what they ordered, didn't put OUR order in right, neglected to check in with us, and we had to ask for the check four times before it finally appeared 30 minutes later. What is the point of accepting a reservation when the restaurant is not even open at the time they say they will be.

The food here was great: we ordered the seafood tower, ceviche, uni, sashimi, soft shell crab, pork belly, garlic noodles, Thai basil shrimp....we ordered the works. The food was truly great. Our server, was great. The Australian woman from the east coast. SHE WAS A DOLL. Knows her menu back and forth. Great service. They get a star removed because of the incident that occurred as we were about to leave. We were seated upstairs on the outside patio. I'd like to point out that they were not abiding by having tables 6ft apart. There were people roaming without masks on. Capacity was a little to much given everything going on. We thought they'd be following stricter rules. However, we were approached by another server stating that due to covid they were asking us to leave. Excuse me?! Y'all care about covid ALL OF A SUDDEN?! If approaching parties of 6 that tip 25% and telling them that covid matters to the restaurant. Is necessary...perhaps also consider following more closely covid cdc and who regulations more closely. A little review on what those should be and how they can improve would be a great place to start. My sister selected COD restaurant to host a company party for approx 80 people. The restaurant is located on 3rd street just east of the Beverly Center. Parking is an issue but they do have a valet even though it's scary just to get to the valet. The main dining room is on the first floor but they gave an upstairs that doubles the size of the restaurant. The is a front and back patio upstairs and a bar. Our party were served appetizers of shrimp, scallops and tiny tiny oysters. The tiny oysters were so small the shells basically chipped into the meat only complaint of the night. I would compare them to the size of a quarter. The mains were served buffet style Grilled salmon was good Grilled asparagus and cauliflower nice big pieces of cauliflower Seafood linguine Fried rice Braised beef cheeks were the highlight of the meal. So so tender great flavor. Many of us asked if it was on the regular menu. Yes it is! Through out the night the drinks flowed and I was introduced to the owner who in fact owns 13 restaurants most notability EMC raw bars. Including his flagship restaurant in Irvine. Being restaurateurs we had great conversation, especially how adverting and promotion has changed over the years. Social media ie Yelp has taken over print and broadcast advertising. Service was ok . I decided to try this restaurant for dineLA since I heard nothing but great things about this place. The dineLA menu offered a 3-course meal for $39 which was a terrific deal! Also, my friends and I decided to try the oysters too. So, we ordered the Kusshi and Fanny Bay. Both of the oysters were delicious & fresh but, I personally loved the Kusshi oysters because of the creaminess and meaty texture. For the dineLA meal, I ordered the grilled octopus (appetizer), uni pasta, and chocolate lava cake. The grilled octopus had a savory flavor that I fell in love and wanted to order another one! We each had something different from their dineLA menu. FOOD BREAKDOWN: Lavender Sparkler - it was really good. I love the light & bubbly taste. Barely taste the alcohol. Fresh Oysters - 3 shots of oysters. It was fresh and went down pretty smooth. They shucked it pretty well. Snow Crab Salad - friend had this and they said it was pretty good. Look pretty simple. Grilled Octopus - very delicious. Surprisingly it wasn't chewy like most octopus I had but quite tender and soft. Pan Seared Shrimp & Chive Dumplings - reminds me of the chive dumplings I get at dim sum. To be honest, it just felt dressed up on a pretty plate. Still delicious though. Truffle Uni Pasta - very heavy cream and we only got 2 small pieces of uni on top of our pasta. Grilled Chilean Sea Bass - this by far was the best in my opinion. It was really well done. Soft and the sauce paired very well with the fish. Yuzu Cheesecake - this was really good as well. I like the crumbly crust at the bottom and the cheese cake flavor was very good. Chocolate Lava Cake - didn't melt like a lava cake. A bit disappointed. It was just soft in the center and lightly crispy on the outside. AMBIANCE & SERVICE: It was very romantic and intimate. Service was good and they were attentive on our need. We used valet for parking. Friends found parking on the streets but they seem a bit far. OVERALL: I would probably just come back if a friend wanted to eat here, and/or they got new dishes I want to try.. My recommendation to the restaurant is to make more unique dishes. Although the "indoor" patio (pre-indoor dining) had tables on top of each other, and even after our table of 5 had a bill of $400+ the "host" has the balls to tell us we have to leave because of the "covid time restriction". Fresh, flavorful, and very reasonably priced (depending what you order, it could be pricey, but we were very happy with our not so pricey selections off the menu). Valet is $7 (this is a very busy area with lots of restaurants, so if you are dining at a popular time, save yourself the time and valet). The vibe is trendy casual, a bit crowded and bustling so not great for an intimate dinner but good for a fun night out. We shared (for two): Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio (yuzu kosho, smoked sea salt, ponzu sauce, olive oil) - the scallops were served sliced, the perfect texture, and complemented well by the ponzu sauce. Albacore Crudo (shallot garlic ponzu sauce, chive, frisee salad) - almost melts in your mouth. Very high quality albacore without too much to distract from the natural taste of the albacore itself. Truffled Green Beans (chilled crunchy baby green beans, olive oil, truffle salt) - the green beans could have been cooked a bit more for my liking (they are crispy) but the truffle sauce is amazing. Crispy Garlic Brussels Sprouts - pretty good, nothing too special compared to all the sprouts out there, but good. Crab Glass Noodle (crab meat, julianne vegetable, seafood broth) - A generous amount of crab accompany a large pot of noodles. It's not too "crabby" but definitely not for those who are not big crab fans. Great for sharing. Have always walked by this place and friends and I decided to give it a try, partially because they had availabilities and also because we were down for seafood. We were seated in the upstairs private dining area which was more spacious; however, there was storage boxes strewn around near the bar which was less than sighted. Wait staff was extremely accommodating and made up for the food, which was a combination of Chinese and Japanese dishes. Everything was good but just ok, nothing special. There is valet parking. Always wanted to come here for dinner, so I decided to have my final meal of 2018 here! Getting reservation was super easy as they are on OpenTable. Parking can be difficult in the area so we used their valet ($10). Our reservations were at 7:45 and we arrived around 7:40. I knew instantly it was going to be a very interesting night when there was no hostess and no one acknowledged us for 5 minutes. The restaurant was packed and I saw the staff running around. We finally got a table and sat down about 7:50 (not too bad) but then it took another 10 minutes for someone to come over. Needless to say the service was horrible all night hence the 2 stars. But enough about the horrible service, the food was outstanding! Below are the dishes we ordered: 1) A dozen oysters (Fat Bastard and Minter Sweet). They were fresh and delicious (5/5). 2) Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice. A little lacking in the spicy department but they were still very good. (4/5) 3) Hamachi Ceviche. Fresh and flavorful (5/5) They also give you plenty of "crackers" so that every bite has a crunch! 4) Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio. We love scallops so wanted to try and they did not disappoint! The smoked sea salt definitely gives it great flavor. Must try (5/5) 5) Salmon with Yuzu Soy. Classic dish, fresh and it has great kick from the serrano pepper. (5/5) 6) Truffle Uni Pasta. Fantastic dish to end with before dessert. It is very rich and heavy but full of great flavor. It is heavy on the creamy side (4.5/5). 7) Chocolate Bread Pudding. Biggest disappointment. First, I thought bread pudding should be hot or at least warm but this came to us room temperature. Maybe at first it was slightly warmer but I wouldn't have not known since it took them 10 minutes to bring us spoons to eat it! Overall Food was 5 stars and service was 0 stars. The food at COD, as in Catch of the Day (not the actual fish...although that also works) is seafood-driven with a heavy Asian influence...catchy, right? ;) Pretty much everything I've had has been really good and really comforting, I could eat here almost every day--and my husband pretty much does. And for the most part, the food is fantastic every time. Sure there have been some MISSES here and there (wah wah), but overall, C.O.D. is truly one of those places you can eat at on a weekly basis. Our go-to's are the garlic noodles which really needs no description or selling point. Just get it. The pork belly is a MUST and is perfect in every way--sweet, salty, fatty, chewy perfection. Chicken wings are a safe bet, but delicious all the same. Raw fish dishes have all been really tasty, fresh, beautiful and bright. The restaurant isn't exactly a tiny mom-and-pop and it's not sprawling either, which makes it a great, neighborhood/date-night/grab-a-bite-to-eat spot. We ordered Crab Toast: It was amazing! The avocado spread and the salty ocean taste of the crabmeat with a tang from the grapefruit! The toast was delicious! The recommendation was great but I think I could've lived without haha Cherry stone clam: This is my second time trying raw clams... and my friend's first time. I liked it a lot but my friend she said it was okay haha! I like how it is a little chewy/ crunchy... (that is not the word) There's a texture that clams have that I really enjoy. And if you guys aren't good with oysters maybe clams will work better because it doesn't have the full body ocean taste. Fannybay: Oysters are my favorite. They were fresh and like the server explained it was easier to eat and enjoy. There weren't too many tables, they did open only two weeks ago. The service was impeccable and the food was great but I just didn't think it would add up to be so expensive! I should've checked the receipt but I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that I didn't get over charged ... that would make me really really sad. C.O.D. is kind of like a westerly EMC, a seafood restaurant that leans heavily Asian, though more Japanese than Korean, or live-fish-tank Chinese. Matt B. and I went for a recent Saturday date night and had a lovely meal. We were able to reserve a 7:00 table just a few hours in advance. It was pretty bustling the whole time we were there, but I'll bet it's easy enough to walk in. The space was fun, casual and attractive with a nautical theme--a big-ass fish wall painting, a suspended canoe. Service was good, no complaints from me. I witnessed some expert handling of a supremely unreasonable customer at the next table. He thought his salmon was too small and he made it into a whole incident, and the staff was just humoring him and his aggressive bullshit for several minutes. I think they may have even sent him something gratis for his troubles. Tiny salmon; world's tiniest violin. We shared a bottle of white wine, a New Zealand sauvignon blanc, and ordered up a bunch of seafood. We started with a half dozen Kusshi oysters and the Hokkaido scallop carpaccio. The oysters were fresh delicious, small and meaty with great clean flavor, served on ice with cocktail sauce, horseradish, mignonette, and lemon. The scallop carpaccio was spectacular, the delicate slivers of raw scallop ridiculously silky, dressed with a flavorful mix of yuzu kosho, soked sea salt, ponzu, and olive oil, with a garnish of micro cilantro. I got the truffle uni pasta for my entrée. This seems to be a house specialty, and it's one of the better uni pastas I've had, with shaved truffle, green nori linguini, creamy uni sauce, and fish roe. Uni pastas can be bland or light on uni, and this one was neither. The linguini had real substance, with a satisfying chew, and I loved the decadent uni sauce. Matt's grilled Chilean sea bass was also fantastic, perfectly cooked with a nice miso sauce and sautéed spinach. We live pretty close to C.O.D. and I'm excited to go back to try more of the menu. There appears to be a solid happy hour, too, with good deals on oysters, among other things. I think this place will end up in our regular restaurant rotation. read more

Came here with Jane K. & we ordered at least half the menu: *Crab Glass Noodles (Crab Meat, julienne vegetable, seafood broth): reminded me of japchae! I liked this dish but it was just a small lump of crab on top for $25. Steep. *Oysters: Super fresh but pricey pricey. No specials like there are at EMC. *Crab Toast: I love avocado+toast & it's even better with crab. It's not a must-order though. *Garlic Noodles (egg noodles, parmesan, green onion): Again, at EMC this is $8 and I feel like it's similar if not the same. *Truffle Uni Pasta (shaved truffle, green nori linguini, creamy uni sauce, fish roe): I really enjoyed the linguini but uni pasta is$33 here whereas uni pasta at EMC is $18. Green nori linguini is unique but not worth 83% more.... *Geoduck Sashimi - did enjoy this - served pretty traditionally (in the shell). This dish is a little more special than the other dishes. Just to end this review on a happier note, I absolutely loved the okinawa purple yam dessert though! Caramelized like a creme brulee & not too sweet. Would definitely order this again. After a few text messages, my friend and I agreed on dinner at COD. The great thing about COD is the restaurant's vision to deliver the freshest "catch of the day" -so, my pescaterian self was excited to be the judge of that. Having 7:30 pm dinner reservations, many of the menu items were unavailable, from saki to certain oysters and fishes (sad face). My friend and I, were given excuse of the restaurant being in it's 'soft opening' as well as some items sold out already. A bit disappointing, we made a couple choices and made the best of the situation. We had: Kusshi Oysters (British Columbia -$21 for a half dozen, $39 for a dozen) were fresh, meaty and delicious. As well as served with horseradish, cocktail sauce and yuzu soy sauce. It's been awhile since I had raw oysters, as I prefer them battered and deep fried. After having these oysters, I can say baby, that I do like it raw! -Oysters people! Oysters. Still talking about oysters ;) Kale Salad ($12) was perfectly blanched, blended with quinoa, almonds, blue cheese, shallots, cranberry, blueberry and passion fruit lychee vinaigrette. I admit the passion fruit lychee vinaigrette was hardly noticeable, but overall delicious. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice ($11) basic and standard. Can't go wrong with ordering it. Branzino (European Seabass -market price, around $20-$30) was picked from the seafood selections that were chilled on ice, waiting to be prepared as requested. What's awesome about COD is that the patron can choose how you'd like your meal prepared. As well having our fish was filleted for us, at our table. Prepared a bit salty, but good. Service was attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. Space is simple and nautical. Valet parking or metered available. COD is a descent addition to the Beverly Grove area. read more
