COD is similar to EMC at a more upscale level. We always get their clam chowder (I get my delivered multiple time too). The truffle green bean is super tasty. The crab glass noodle is something we crave for. They don't cut back in the amount of crabs! Another one of my personal favorite is the scallop carpaccio and the sausage fried rice. Always always always order that. Scallop is super fresh and full of flavor. Sausage friend rice reminds me of a Cantonese fried rice too. Just very nostalgic. read more

Booked an evening out, decided to try these guys out. Everything was amazing on the menu, seriously worth trying. Few negatives: walked in with a reservation, waited at least 45 min before had a table, they blamed it on Open Table overbooking..........well since there was a bar not a big deal I guess but we were really hungry. Then we show up to the bar and want to order a cocktail, the bartender says they are out of berries, and mint I believe, and they can't make the top 3 cocktails ( out of the 6 on the menu) because we are out of bunch of things. Mind you it is 8 pm on a Saturday. Bartender was a sweetheart! Then we finally get a table and I shall say , almost everything was good except calamari. So they are really busy, staff is amazing, food not bad, will I go there again, maybe on a wednesday afternoon lol I will update my review maybe next time when I visit them again. Amazing uni pasta & raw dishes. The brussel sprouts are surprisingly tasty. For the steamed sea bream, the soy sauce paired with the fish is not the right kind. As a Chinese who has eaten the steamed fish all her life, I could tell right away that they used a random soy sauce which is too powerful and covers the original taste of the fish. Cocktails can be skipped. The service is alright, but they are clearly short staffed. read more

It must have been an off night for COD last evening. We went in for an 8:30PM reservation to find a full house and only 2 servers working. We ended up only eating appetizers due to the unacceptable waiting time for service. The waitress was very apologetic about the situation, but it still was alarming for a 5 star establishment to be so shockingly understaffed. At one point we had 3 empty soup bowls and a platter of a dozen empty oyster shells on the edge of our table for a solid 15 minutes. The busboy delivered a tuna poke appetizer to the table and left without the aforementioned empty plates. Even the lady working the reservation desk was trying to help the servers, though her arm was in a sling. The food preparation seemed rushed and not what we are used to from COD. After 2 hours we decided to get the check without ordering our dinner. We expressed our discontent to our waitress (again, very apologetic), and we were thanked by the 2 ladies at the adjoining table for mentioning the poor service, telling us they waited 40 minutes for cocktails. The evening topper? The parking valet attendant took my ticket with A CHICKEN WING IN HIS MOUTH!!! He never even spoke to me and paused from eating his wing only to give a fellow attendant HIS plate of wings. I had given him a $20.00 for the $10.00 fee and stood there for a minute while he ate, finally asking him for two $5.00 bills as my change. Again, we have had very good service at COD before, as recently as 3 weeks ago during DineLA. The service was excellent that night. Perfect for take out. Good ideas that are poorly executed from the kitchen if you eat in. Owner/chef focused on take out business and could care less about eat-in customers. I am from the industry and spoke to the owner chef. I asked what he recommended and he told me to order from the menu. I already ordered from the menu and execution was subpar - I didn't say that. I asked twice about sashimi and dumplings and got the same response. I paid the bill and left. I believe this place is good enough for takeout but find somewhere else if execution is important. My boyfriend and I and another couple who were sitting next to us (we didn't come together) all noticed there was NO UNI in the uni pasta. No fish roe either. It bothered me that the waitress didn't tell us before ordering that the uni would be "in the cream" and not on top of the dish like the pictures of other reviews show. Both our table and the couple at the table next us couldn't believe that it would just be "in the cream". The guy in the table next us joked "I'm pretty sure I can catch my own uni driving 20 minutes so why isn't there any in this dish?". I hate to give bad reviews but there is times where you must. The waiter seem to have as attitude because we didn't want to buy specialty water or a drink. The salmon we ordered was not cooked correctly half raw and for a seafood restaurant it's not aceptable. The bathroom didn't have towel for hand washing. My boyfriend and I closed this place down last Friday night and had a great time enjoying their scrumptious dinner items, drinks, and chatting with manager Melanie and bartender Sid. We started with half a dozen of the Fat Bastard oysters, which were good, but smaller than our server thought they were going to be (so she comp'd our drinks--holy cow, how sweet!) I then selected the Crab Toast (huge portion and so good!) and the Jidori Chicken. I didn't really have any expectations for the chicken and was pleasantly surprised--it was so crispy and delicious and full of enormous flavor! My boyfriend chose the Crab Salad (also a huge portion and delicious!) and the Beef Cheeks. Our drinks were also very satisfying, and rather than leaving after we had paid our bill, we made our way to the bar and enjoyed a few too many of a lovely purple beverage called The Stache. It was crisp, comfortable, soothing, and smart. Muddled blackberries, gin and St. Germaine foam. Simply grand. Looking forward to coming here again, as it was everything we could have hoped for and was a magical spot for the perfect date night. I love seafood and love trying new places and noticed pictures popping up all over my feed of uni linguine. I had to go in. We went in last night with a few friends for dinner and were easily able to get a reservation on Opentable. I didn't realize they are in their soft opening, so keep in mind they have a very limited bar menu with choice of only a couple wines. It was relatively busy around 8:30pm and died down as we enjoyed our dinner. We started with oysters, crab toast, calamari and halibut sashimi. The food was spot on. Super fresh, very flavorful and light. My favorites were the calamari and the halibut sashimi which was slightly seared. For entrees we ordered the crab glass noodles, the uni linguine and the whole sea bass (but we just asked for half) and requested it be seared. The pastas were great and the sea bass was so moist. I'd definitely go for a piece of fish, as they are experts with fish. Prices are on the higher side, but seafood is pricey, so that is to be expected. My only complaint was the very limited bar menu, which will definitely change when they officially open. Last night might have been one of those ""hangry moments"". I get really angry sometimes when I'm hungry and kind of just keep blabbing and complaining until I see food in front of me. COD relieved my hangriness though. At first, it was kind of hard to tell for me if the food was good because it was good, or because I was hungry, but as I kept eating, the food only continued to taste better. My high school friends wanted to have a reunion after everyone graduated from college this year so we each ordered a different item on the menu. I myself am a lover of fresh Uni; most sushi and sashimi restaurants in Los Angeles have always been a hit or miss for me. Either the Uni tasted days old or it was just not good quality Uni. I'd rather buy the ones at a supermarket if I was paying that kind of money for seafood. The rest of my table got Tuna poke, the lobster roll (also very fresh) and (two) house fries - these were the BOMB!! By the end of it all, my tummy (and I, lol) were satisfied after ravaging through my food. We were going to get boba afterward, but we were just so full already. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. I won't come to this place often though, but only because it is on the more expensive side. This will likely when I feel like... S P L U R G I NG. P.S. I'd also like to note that our waittress was very helpful. First time ever coming to cod. Came for DineLA. The scallops tasted amazing and fresh, the wagyu steak was very very delicious, the desserts were spectacular and over all it was a good experience. The biggest disappointment however, was the truffle uni pasta. Once it arrived we immediately noticed that something wasn't right. The pasta and sauce were actually good, but the piece uni on top immediate stood out and seemed off... Having had exceptional uni at many other places before, it was easy to tell that the quality of the piece they put on top of the pasta was clearly subpar. Even just the color and shape of it threw off many red flags before even tasting it. When we make the bold decision to giving the poor thing a try, it went down south quick. The off putting taste of their uni negatively impacted our view of the entire dish. Anywho, at least the rest of the meal lived up to the hype read more

C.O.D was one of the coolest dining experiences ever! From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, I ... The owner of C.O.D is the mastermind behind lots of successful restaurants in LA, so we were in for a treat. To put it "simply", it is a high-end Asian-fusion seafood based restaurant with a trendy industrial vibe. We had the pleasure of getting to talk to a few employees because they are currently in their soft-opening phase (they are still waiting for their hard liquor license to open!). Throughout the entire evening they were highly attentive and really friendly; it was the cherry on top to a great meal. Overall, the quality and effort of each of the dishes we ordered were incredible. Every dish was crafted carefully to truly let the ingredients shine on their own, with the help of a touch of spice or sauce. OYSTERS: The oysters are put beautifully on display towards the back of the restaurant. They have a pretty great selection of oysters, but after my friends and I went down the list we decided on Fanny Bay and Kusshi ones. I haven't had too many oysters in my life, so I wasn't too sure what to expect, but I enjoyed how succulent they were. The Fanny Bay ones were light and thick, while the Kusshi ones were small and meaty. They paired well with the selection of sauces that came with it. HAMACHI CEVICHE: One of my friends is obsessed with yellowtail, so she insisted on trying this one! The fish was paired with a lovely lime dressing. On the side was lightly battered and fried seaweed. The yellowtail tasted fresh and had a great texture to it. It was a smart choice pairing the seaweed with the ceviche to give the dish more diversity. CRAB TOAST: I absolutely loved this one! Although it barely had any seafood, I would say that this was one of my favorites. Atop perfectly grilled and oiled sourdough toast is avocado, bell peppers, crab, and other colorful "toppings". Everything meshed wonderfully. If I was a bigger fan of posting pictures of beautiful food on Instagram, I would for sure get this one! TRUFFLE UNI PASTA: One of the most unique dishes I've ever tasted. I have never had uni before, (in all honesty I probably will never order it on its own now that I have tried it) but I was really excited to try this after seeing other Yelpers' pictures! The texture of the pasta was absolutely perfect. I was so shocked to learn that they actually make the pasta in house, and it only made me fall in love with it even more! The sauce was creamy and flavorful. I was so pleased and can confirm that the hype around this pasta is real and worth a try if you love seafood pasta. CRISPY CALAMARI: One of my favorite things about this dish was the fact that it was flavored with the "salt and pepper" spices that you'd find at a typical Chinese restaurant for pork or for fish! The calamari was chewy and tender (in the best way possible). It tasted familiar, but with a different twist on it. I've been here a few times. I first visited during their soft opening. We had some halibut hamachi and they had a short rib special, which was delicious. Last time I had the prosciutto app and the green mussels which were great. The waiters are awesome. He offered me sunnies upstairs on the patio when I forgot mine! When I sat upstairs it took awhile to get my drink (a glass of wine mind you, nothing fancy; just pouring into a glass). The girl delivering food upstairs just looked completely lost to the point that it was a thing to watch every single time she delivered a plate. Overall, a bit pricey (par for the area but still hard to chew when you just want a casual meal), service was good with a few kinks to work out, and food was fantastic. Update: finally made it to HH here. Their food was all great, love the $1 oysters. Small portions but super fresh and tasty. Definitely a pricey HH but nice to treat ourselves every once in awhile! read more

Eating at COD was a terrible experience and I would give it zero stars if I could. I was excited when I went to the restaurant this past week with three friends as I had gone a few years ago before the pandemic and had a relatively good experience. Two of us ended up getting food poisoning from one of the seafood dishes we had eaten and the walnuts in our walnut and shrimp dish were stale. We did not pay almost two hundred dollars to get painful stomaches. The waiter who served us was also extremely rude--they were impatient and attempted to remove dishes from our table before we had even finished everything on them. The waiter continued to hurry us even after we asked them waiter to be more patient and to give us more time to finish everything; it was like they wanted us to get out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. The food is extremely overpriced for what you get, and the quality of the restaurant has degraded significantly since before the pandemic, and I definitely do not recommend going. read more

Omg COD is definitely a hidden germ in LA. After getting rejected at The Catch and Sur, we resorted to go to this restaurant under the fear of unabling to get into any other restaurant in LA as party of 5 at 7pm. There was doubt about COD when we first walked in a half empty room. But it was incredible food. We got in time for the happy hour (at 6:50) and got amazing dozen of oyster for $18 (given that coming from Boston I have a rlly high standard for oyster). Another highlight of the night is definitely the uni truffle pasta. Other dishes are also really really good such as the seabass with spinach and tuna crispy rice. Want to come back for happy hour oyster and the legendary uni truffle pasta again next time!! read more

Here are my recommendations are what to order: Brussels Sprouts - seasoned to perfection Lobster - Again, seasoned to awesomeness, so tender and fresh. I attended a birthday party here for 60 folks and loved it. The restaurant has three interesting spaces: 1) downstairs is a terrific space with bar... very chill 2) upstairs space also has a bar and can accommodate a large group and 3) upstairs balcony overlooks third street - could be the most popular place for drinks on a summer night. Was thrilled with the food after sampling almost every dish on the menu. With the C (catch) O (f) D (ay) name, you would figure that the seafood is great - and you'd be right. The raw oysters were fresh and tasty. On this occasion we also sampled the yellowtail, halibut and scallop carpaccio, each with a light sauce that didn't overwhelm the freshness of the raw fish. Then there was the poke (which is the hottest trend around for a good reason). Also had the grilled octopus which was tender and not rubbery like a lot of places. Gotta mention two pasta dishes: garlic noodles and uni pasta. Both are highly addictive as is their fried rice - yes, I said fried rice. The seafood fried rice is solid but the one with Chinese sausage is like crack. I had to take some home. But I save the best for last. Despite their emphasis on seafood, you have to try the pork belly. It's crunchy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. It's cooked or marinated in a sweet soy sauce. Truly haven't ever seen pork belly served this way. Eat it as part of your dinner or consider it dessert. BEST DISH EVER!!!! Will end this review with a shout-out to the servers at COD. Where Wokcano used to be, this new spot by Marcus Kwan of E.M.C. did not disappoint. The space is not quite 100% ready (they don't have their hard liquor license yet - though their wine paired great with the seafood - and their upstairs lounge is not quite finished, though looks like it will be AH-mazing, including an outdoor space overlooking 3rd), but their Asian inspired menu is superb - like a step up from E.M.C., plus the elevated West Hollywood vibe (love the golden fish mural and canoe above the bar). We came with an insider, so she was able to order the best dishes for us to try (they were out of the lobster roll, boo) - their menu is still evolving and changing, but here is what we tried and recommend. In order of yumminess (though most everything was so good), with BOLDS a must! UNI TRUFFLE PASTA - I mean, can you really go wrong?! Rich and tasty. You HAVE have have to get this! PURPLE YAMS - This is currently listed a "side," but AH-mazing as a dessert. Loved the glaze - not too sweet, so perfect. OYSTERS - You just gotta - this is what makes E.M.C. special, and now you don't have to drive down to KTown. Hokkaido scallops carpaccio with ponzu sauce - This was so tasty - loved the flavor and the thinly sliced scallops. Truly elevated. Spicy tuna crispy rice - I have to get this at every place - really tasty. The rice is fried in butter = YUM. Crispy pork belly - Bite sized but FULL of flavor. So good. Tuna poke with seaweed salad, avocado - Clean dish. Poke done well. Truffle green beans - A cold side dish, a refreshing change to the rest of the menu. I asked why they didn't make it warm, and the chef said that you wouldn't be able to taste the truffle as much. Got it. Garlic chicken wings - Like those crispy, AMAZING KTown wings. Yeah, yummy. Truffle sliders - You really can't go wrong. Hamachi cerviche - The kimchi flavor gives it a little twist. I thought it was different and just OK, but my Korean hubby and friend RAVED. Garlic noodle - Can't help but compare to Crustacean's (or the District's down the street), comparable, but not better. Beef cheeks - Super tender, served with quinoa. Solid dish, but get the crispy pork belly. Crab toast - Another cold dish, good, but I preferred the pokes and other raw dishes. My friend on the other hand LOVED this dish - was one of his top of the night actually - so apparently, it's just a matter of taste. Everything was good! Grilled octopus - A little overcooked tonight, apparently they are still tweaking this dish. We also had a couple desserts - yuzu creme brulee (just OK) and chocolate bread pudding (get this!). I came to COD with a friend and we decide to split the Tuna poke and the shrimp cocktail. We also got a bottle of sake to wash it all down with (I highly recommend this). The cocktail was relatively cheap, and if you're a fan of the stuff you will find the sauce phenomenal. Now the real star was the tuna poke, which was surprisingly good! Poke as a meal has definitely been on the come up in LA. I've seen two or three poke places pop up in my area over over the past couple of months and I can't say I'm a fan, but the poke at COD totally sold me. The seasoning, the toppings, and the fish itself really came together in a way that stood out compared to all the basic poke I've tried to date. As for other aspects of the place, the presentation of the food and the decor were on point. The plating of everything that I ordered was perfect, and I loved the interior design. The ebony tables, oysters on display, and the giant fish painted onto the wall work together to create a very hipster, nautical vibe. read more

Lucky for me, I went with a big group so I had the privilege to try a lot on their menu and was so impressed to find every dish so delicious, fresh, and flavorful. I am usually a little picky about scallop dishes because I only like them super fresh, and I must admit, their scallop carpaccio was melt in your mouth delicious and made me a scallop lover again. Everything from crab glass noodle, garlic noodle, fresh oysters, fresh clams, pork belly, uni pasta, beef braised cheek, burrata and prosciutto, chicken wings and special fried rice...
