We came here for a girls night out with a reservation for three and had such a great time. We sat inside and the interior was beautiful, but there was also plenty of outdoor seating available. For drinks, we ordered the cin cin espresso martini, Hugo's Vacation, witches brew, and rosé. Everything was well made, although I do think the cocktails were on the smaller side considering they were priced around $15-$18. For food, we ordered the Spicy Tagliolini di Granchio (definitely has a kick, but the crab is deshelled), Rigatoni Con Ragu, and the Chicken Diavola. The chicken was especially good for anyone who loves Mike's Hot Honey. It was a huge portion with crispy potatoes underneath and super saucy without actually being too spicy. All the food and drinks were tasty, but I definitely need to try the giant focaccia bread and Neapolitan-style pizza next time. They have this massive oven in the back that was imported from Italy, which was really cool to see. read more

I would come back here just for the focaccia is was AMAZINGGGG!!! The truffle whipped ricotta that came with it was the star of the show, we ordered extra to put on our pizza crust. Another highlight was the arugula salad which came with pickled roasted grapes. Sounds weird, but it was SUCH a good and flavor topping to the salad and paired perfectly with the salty savory almonds and cheese. Honestly the pizza was just okay to me. The crust was great and perfectly cooked, but overall I thought it lacked flavor (hence why we needed to top it with the truffle whipped ricotta). Was really excited to try this spot after successfully managing to get a reservation after a few weeks of trying. We ended up dining earlier after putting our name in for a spot on the patio. I love the ambiance here, it's cleanly decorated but still manages to feel inviting and comfortable. The patio is cute and doesn't feel overwhelming even with the street nearby. Service was a bit slow when we first were seated, it took a while to get our drink order placed and then to receive the drinks (appetizer arrived before drinks). It was quite busy at this point and as the crowd thinned the service did pick up. I have a gluten allergy and felt like our server took it very seriously. He graciously explained what on the menu was safe for me to eat. The highlight for me was the sea salt and wild oregano focaccia. The bread was light and airy, didn't taste gluten free to me, and was delicious paired with the whipped ricotta and truffle gremolata. The truffle flavor was just enough and didn't overpower the whole dish. I ordered the tagliolini all'amalfitana as my main. It was good, not great. I have no real complaints it just didn't wildly impress me. It felt a little bland, the most prominent flavor was the lemon zest it was topped with. The rest of my group ordered the tartufo pizza to share and we're very complimentary. To drink I had the stolen vespa which was a nicely balanced tequila based drink. I tried a sip of the Hugo's vacation slushie cocktail and enjoyed how light and refreshing it was. Overall, I would be willing to give Coda di Volpe another chance with a different order because I love the atmosphere and would be curious to try some of the other foods to see if I can find something more memorable. read more

I booked Coda di Volpe through Resy for my birthday and had high expectations. The restaurant printed "Happy Birthday" with my name on the menu, which made me hopeful for a thoughtful experience. Unfortunately, the evening fell far short. The rigatoni lacked depth and flavor -- at places like Tre Dita or Ciccio Mio, a bite of pasta feels intentional and satisfying, but here it felt flat and forgettable. There was also a stray piece of a different pasta mixed into the rigatoni. When I pointed it out, the response was that the pasta is made in-house and must have gotten mixed in, followed by asking if the entire dish was like that. The response felt minimizing and missed the point -- it made the experience feel sloppy, not thoughtful. When we asked for crushed red pepper to help with the flavor, we were given a very small amount to share between two people. The wine service felt inconsistent. The majority of nearby tables had proper stemmed wine glasses -- including the table next to us who ordered the same wine by the glass -- yet we were given stemless tumblers. When I asked, I was told stemmed glasses are only provided if requested or when ordering a bottle. That explanation didn't align with what we saw around us and felt like a justification rather than a real explanation. The glass we received felt more like something you'd drink from at home, not what you'd expect at a restaurant at this price point. The lack of standardization made the experience feel less polished. The "special" focaccia was especially disappointing -- more like a dry, cardboard-like flatbread than anything worth the price. During service, a server's coat fell onto the dish as it was being delivered, and the server described the pasta as "beautiful," which didn't match the reality of the dish. The espresso martini was extremely bitter and not enjoyable. The complimentary birthday gelato, offered only after I raised a concern, was also disappointing -- it appeared to be a fruit flavor, but it was so bland that neither of us could identify it and we left it after one bite. Between the food, drinks, service, and overall execution, the experience felt inconsistent and unpolished rather than celebratory or well-executed. We came for an early dinner in Labor Day and had a great meal. There was no wait either, but it was busy. So make a reservation if you're a bigger party. We both got the lavender lemonade, and shared the arancini and rigatoni. Everything was awesome. The arancini comes in a creamy green sauce, and has corn in it which I've never seen before. I extensively researched where to eat near Lakeview East for a group of eight. Our daughter was coming to town from Denver to celebrate her 28th birthday with friends, whom all live in the area. We drove from Cincinnati to meet her. From the first time I called to make a reservation for a large party to the re-scheduling to the following weekend due to a death in the family, the girl(s) on the phone could not be more professional and accommodating. I was told they would make it work but we might have to sit outside as the 8-top already had a reservation for Oct. 17th. However, when we arrived, we were seated right away at an 8-top inside. Our server, Viridiana, was so great and took very good care of us. As the plethora of drink orders came at her, she was cool as a cucumber and delivered the drinks, and the continuation of drinks throughout the night, with accuracy. She chuckled when I handed her my phone with our entire party's order and said "This is awesome. Are you in the service industry?" No, we are just foodies with an understanding of how hard it is to take care of a large group, and any little bit helps. Our pizzas and apps came out quickly, followed by all the pastas. We took a vote and here were the favorites dishes of the night: The Corn and Truffle Arancini, Fagioli Fritti, Sea Salt Focaccia, Spicy Mafaldine (!!!) Bucatini add meatballs, Rigatoni con Ragu, and all of the pizzas. The only dish we all didn't love was the Cacio e Pepe. They gave us a complimentary large Lemon Sundae for the birthday! That was a perfect bite for us all to share to end the evening. Not a big fan of pizza that disintegrates as you go further in. The pistachio pizza held it together better, prob due to lack of sauce. Was quite enjoyable actually. Good flavors. The highlight of my meal was the bucatini with meatballs -- perfectly al dente pasta with tender, flavorful meatballs that felt both hearty and comforting. The buffalo mozzarella was another standout, fresh and creamy with that rich tang you hope for. I also tried the prosciutto pizza -- the flavors were spot on, but the crust could use a little more structure. The undercarriage was soft, which made it a bit difficult to eat, and left the overall bite a touch soggy. Still tasty, just could be improved with a crisper base. Overall, a very good experience. One of my favorite places in the Southport Corridor! The service is always quick, easy, and the servers are always so kind.  We opted into getting the cacio e pepe, focaccia, their summer salad, and tiramisu.  The starters of the focaccia and summer burrata salad were delicious! The bread was so soft and fluffy and perfectly salted. The Summer salad was so so fresh and hit the spot with all the flavors coming together.  The Cacio e pepe is one of my favorite cacio e pepe's I have ever tried in Chicago. The noodles soak up every bit of the sauce perfectly. We have gotten the pizza's in the past and I promise you can't go wrong with what you pick. The rigatoni ragu is also very good with season and the pork sausage is super flavorful.  The tiramisu was on the sweeter side for me which I don't love, but I can see why others would really like it! The wine list is fantastic. The cocktails and mocktails are also made well.  Fun Fact: they have a "to go " window called the foxhole where you can get foccacio + square cut pizzas to go! They have tons of space that's kid friendly and a fantastic patio. read more

Fantastic Italian restaurant in the heart of Wrigleyville. They have stone oven pizzas that are fantastic and the homemade pastas are even better. They have a nice variety of drinks with a few local brews on tap. We went for a birthday celebration and the staff customized the menu to add a "happy birthday" top left. Beautiful decor. Sunday night at 5pm. Ordered a drink on the rocks. Very short pour. Just filled up a third of the glass. Usually one orders on the rocks with a better pour. Had to go back to the bar and order a second shot. Turns out they use a 1 oz pour. We also ordered a tequila on the rocks. they served a margarita. Had to send it back. Pizza's were good. Pasta was undercooked ( too firm.... Aldente is not this hard. They rushed cooking). Tomato sauce was plain with no flavor. Was never offered parm cheese for our 4 pasta dishes. Our second visit, we discovered the restaurant last spring. A really outstanding experience! This time we were in the beautiful dining room (last spring sat on the patio). We just did a walk in immediately at opening, after shopping in the area. Upscale, sophisticated but welcoming. Gorgeous bar, which filled quickly. Love the cozy semi-circular booths for groups of 4-6. We were in a table for 2 by the window. Our server was great, friendly, attentive & very very knowledgeable about the food & the wine. We shared the Delicata Squash, which was outstanding & unlike anything we've had before. Presentation on it was just beautiful (look at my picture!). Better shared by 3 or even 4, but the 2 of us ate it all. We shared the Pizza Mortadella e Pistachio. We had asked our server what were his personal favorites--he said it was difficult but named 3. It was wonderful! They give you some large scissors & you cut it as you go so that the crust stays crispy. We also shared the Cacio e Pepe--yum! A little too much food but everything was so good! Great cocktails, nice wine list. Our server gave us a great recommendation that complemented our food. It is just a really wonderful experience, great staff, beautiful surroundings, wonderful food. The best neighborhood joint with amazing food and an incredible staff. Coda Di Volpe has an extensive menu from pasta to pizza to salad. I ventured here on a cold, December afternoon, and I posted up at the bar. Though it is usually quite bustling (definitely get a reservation if you plan on coming for dinner), this afternoon it was a little quieter. It was nice to sit and relax. I ordered a Peroni, but they have incredible cocktails and a full wine list. I also ordered the chopped salad, which was quite large, and I ended up bringing leftovers home. The bar tender was super nice, and I even ran into a friend who was also venturing in the Southport neighborhood that day. Originally I wasn't going to get a pizza but I saw that they are nationally renowned and everybody's pizza around me just looked so good. I definitely feel like this spot is underrated. After going it has risen in rank to one of my fave Italian spots in the city. We sat on the patio and it was a beautiful night especially with the string lights they hang really giving it that cozy feel. We got the spaghetti and meatballs and the soppresatta pizza and everything was so delicious. You can really tell that the pasta is homemade and was cooked perfectly. The pizza was fresh out of the wood fired oven and you could definitely tell it was beyond delicious. We also got the chopped salad to start which was so good to start with, the perfect size for two. This has become my favorite restaurant! It's a fantastic spot for Saturday night date night. My favorite appetizer is the octopus salad which at first sounded strange, but all it takes is one bite to realize that it has some of the freshest octopus in town. Quality ingredients and creative recipes. I also treat myself to the Italian "Menabrea Bionda" on draught here. Took a take-out box for my entree, so I could order dessert. This restaurant has been open for a while, and we've noticed that it's always busy and gets good reviews. So when friends were in town, we decided this was perfect place to try. It was a nice night, so we opted to sit outside. There is a large outside area on the south side of the restaurant, but they seated us in a smaller area along Southport. Our server was friendly and animated, and happily took a group photo of our table. We ordered the Focaccia with Whipped Ricotta. It was really delicious, but we found we had some leftover Ricotta, so we asked another server (our waiter was not around) for some plain bread to use it up. He disappeared and never returned. Later when we asked our waiter for bread he told us they didn't have any. If we wanted to finish the Ricotta, we have to order another $10 piece of Focaccia. Nope! I ordered the house made Bucatini Pomodoro with two meatballs for $28. The pasta was tough, not al dente, and the meatballs were rather flavorless. Someone at our table ordered a pizza. After everyone else had been served, we waited and waited and waited for the pizza to arrive. Our waiter came out once, and told us the pizza kitchen was slammed, and it would be a while before it was ready. Twenty minutes later we were still waiting for the pizza. The waiter had never returned with updates, until I got up from the table to find him finally bringing the tardy pizza. Not good. Our friend offered her pizza crust as a way to use up the Ricotta left over from the Focaccia. The pizza was supposedly voted 44th best in the country, but to my eyes and based on the lack of response from my friend, I think that it's overrated. Everyone else at the table was rather mute about their food, too. Because of the pizza delay, dinner lasted way longer than anticipated. So we decided against dessert. At a first look, prices seem to be within reason for a nicer restaurant, but based on the small portion sizes, they are high. I am guessing that Coda's popularity is based on its Southport location and because it's the only Italian restaurant in that very trendy area. This restaurant is okay, but did not live up to its high rating, and was ultimately a disappointment. read more

Cocktail list was interesting: two people got the Strawberry Negroni, which they mentioned was light on the strawberry and heavy on the Negroni. We got a margherita pizza for the table which was the perfect appetizer before mains. For pizza, we ordered the rigatoni Ragu, seasonal gnocchietta (spicy), and spaghetti al nurano. The gnocchi and spaghetti were the favorites of the pastas, bursting with flavor. Service was great and our server was super knowledgeable about the menu and gave solid recommendations for a group of 4! Would go back! It was a gorgeous day outside so I decided to sit on the patio. A great call but sitting right next to the plants felt a little tight. However the nice weather and service made up for that in spades. I love a place that gives you a big pitcher of water so that was appreciated. By law I have to try the octopus if I'm in a city near a body of water so I started there and it was cooked perfected. Just the right amount of tender and the charring gave it a nice texture. For my main dish I got the spicy pasta with crab. It was the right portion for a hungry person but not too filling. I didn't find it particularly spicy but the pepper flakes gave it a good crunch and brought it all together. I finished with the lemon sundae which can be easily shared but it was just me. It wasn't too rich and I love lemon so the citrus flavor I loved. I cannot recommend this place more. read more
