Kind of a small space so it's a little tight and not a lot of tables, but people come and go quickly so the wait isn't too bad. I've tried a couple of different pastas here and the stand out is the Jalapeño Gnocchi! The sauce is yummy and pairs well with the gnocchi. You can also add the sauce (and any of the other sauces) to any of the other types of pasta to create your own dish. Food comes out straight from the stove pretty quick and is yummy! The quality and portion size of the pastas are pretty good for the price. I always look forward to stopping by whenever I'm in the area and it pairs well with Annette's Italian Ice as a treat afterwards (when it's open for the season). read more

Small place with open seating on a Saturday night. Decent pricing for a super popular area around Halsted and Armitage. The small Caesar was pretty big and good for splitting between two people. The linguine with pesto cream tasted good, but felt like something I could've made at home. The noodles didn't taste homemade and were a little aldente and the sauce wasn't anything extraordinary. The gnocchis were definitely the best thing we got. The jalepeno cream sauce was definitely unique and not too spicy and the gnocchis were super soft and pillowy. Very affordable and delicious pasta for a cold night!! Came here with friends on a Tuesday and were able to sit immediately. The server was extremely friendly and greeted us right away. She answered all of our questions about the menu and was very attentive. The restaurant itself is cute - I really like the open concept kitchen where you can see the cooks making your food! I got the Penne Con Salsiccie which was delicious. The Italian sausage was really good and I enjoyed the red sauce and the mushrooms. I don't remember what my friends got but theirs also looked really good. I tried my friend's meatballs and they were amazing - I'd definitely recommend those. Every time I'm in Chicago, we make it a point to come back to this banging local spot. It has become a tradition at this point. I wrote my first review here 15 years ago, and I swear we might have had the same waiter *Russ, this time too. If it was him, he's just as fantastic as ever. We loved him back then, and we loved him again on this visit. I tend to be a creature of habit here, and once again I ordered the pasta with mushrooms and added sausage. They serve my favorite kind of sausage--the kind that's de-cased and cooked into hearty, flavorful chunks that blend perfectly with the dish. Rich, earthy, comforting. Every bite hit the mark. This place never disappoints, its Warm atmosphere, great service, and food that keeps you coming back again and again. After dinner, we popped next door to grab a cookie at Summer House. Russ had told us his favorite cookie is the one topped with Rice Krispies, so we made his night and brought one back for him on our way home. I'm glad we finally stumbled into this place. The open kitchen concept of this casual pasta joint is nice until you start smelling very strongly when leaving the establishment. Service was quick though and food was decent with good portions and prices. Nothing special as I've definitely had better Italian food in the area, but I can see how this would satisfy a pasta craving! Wine also interestingly came in little cups rather than a wine glass. We got the grilled calamari to start, and this was a small portion of just four large pieces. Though delicious, I wasn't a fan of the small unshareable size. We also got the large mixed greens salad, which was a nice fresh portion and enjoyed the complimentary bread with the calamari sauce. For our entrees, we got the crab ravioli that was on special and the Spaghetti Frutti Di Mare. I liked the sauce and flavor of the spaghetti much better than the crab ravioli. Finally, we were tempted by the carrot cake on the dessert menu and decided to give it a try - again nothing special and tasted store bought. I randomly came across this place while waiting for my bus (the stop was right outside). I saw the food on people's tables and immediately wanted to give it a try. We ordered quite a bit, starting with appetizers. The grilled portobello mushroom was good- the mushroom itself was really good. The baked goat cheese, though, was amazing. The marinara sauce was super flavorful and paired perfectly with it. The free bread wasn't great, it was cold and hard. Honestly, I'd rather they just skip it than serve it like that. For mains, we tried their vegetarian sandwich, which was really tasty. The bread was soft enough to enjoy without feeling dry or chewy. We also went for three pastas: Penne Funghi Jalapeño Gnocchi Ravioli The jalapeño gnocchi was hands-down the winner. Definitely recommend trying it. The ravioli and penne funghi were good too. Overall, the food was great and our server was friendly with solid recommendations. The place itself is decent, not super fancy, honestly feels more like somewhere I'd order from at home rather than sit down for a long meal. Prices were fair and we got to try a good variety. A Delicious Surprise After a Disappointment After showing up at Soul Prime and finding it closed, I decided to try this restaurant instead -- and what a great choice that turned out to be! The host was excellent, walking me through the menu, explaining how the ravioli would be made from scratch, and even offering to add shrimp. He also suggested mixing the red and pesto sauces, which was absolutely delicious. I had zero regrets about my meal. The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. On top of that, the atmosphere was exciting -- I loved being able to watch the chefs cook, with flames leaping from the pans right in front of us. First of all this is the freshest Italian food I've ever had. It's so good! It gives of a mom and pops feel and great ambiance to the restaurant. Very close knit seating, open kitchen, two chefs cooking right there, it was so cool! The service was awesome too, they were super helpful, very chill, service with a smile vibes! But back to the food: I've only had fried calamari and this grilled one was SO GOOD. The tomatoes with it and the tangy green sauce with it was great and just looked visually pristine! Then, my pasta was so fresh that even after eating it for 15 minutes then waiting for the box to come, when I put it in the container, it was still steaming. If I didn't get full from my beer and bread appetizer, I would've DEVOURED this meal. Also, I'm usually not an olive oil on bread type of guy, but their oils were so smooth and fresh that it just tasted good great! Also, my partner ate the pesto pasta. I'm not a huge fan of pesto but I had a few tastes from their dish. Pesto was fresh, sat well with the pasta, but it wasn't over powering. The only down side? Is that it's 20 minutes drive from me. This place is a small and casual stop by for an Italian dinner, but they don't take reservations. They don't have much seating, though it's not difficult to just walk in. The prices are very very affordable for pastas and portions are perfect! I got the conchiglie Gorgonzola which I enjoyed, but felt that the flavor was a bit too strong for me as I ate more. The pesto linguine has a more bitter pesto taste, so if you prefer that than you'll like it. I think I will definitely try different pastas when I come back! read more

Pasta Palazzo has an attractive price point for sure, but ultimately and unfortunately, the food had left me on the disappointed side. I had ordered the gnocchi with chicken in alfredo sauce. For starters, the dish lacked flavor and I had to pull bone out of my mouth when chewing a piece of chicken. The gnocchi itself does indeed melt in your mouth, and for the price, I can't complain too much; but the bread that they provided tasted very old and that knocked my rating down a star. The bread was terrible and they can definitely easily control that. Overall, there was not a whole lot about Pasta Palazzo that screamed "fresh." In addition, and rightfully so because of the price, the portion sizes were about half of what you could expect from competitors. This had unfortunately left me still hungry after my meal, which is an unfortunate position to be in. I can't say I'll be trying this place again. read more

Starting with the food, their jalapeno gnocchi has been very talked-about and even the waiter recommended it. However, I went with the regular gnocchi with spicy vodka tomato cream sauce. The pasta was extremely well cooked, and it melts right away in your mouth. The sauce was very flavorful, rich, and spicy, but just a little salty for my taste. However, I would 100% get the same gnocchi with pesto sauce or try the jalapeno one. The gnocchi was truly the highlight and when craving reasonably priced (~15) Italian food, I would surely come back to this restaurant. Additionally, they give you complementary bread with your meal. Lastly, the service was very good and the waiter was knowledgeable. The food came out in a good time and overall, a great place for some Italian fix.
