The pasta was great,the sauce was rich and the portions are huge, each dish serving two people pretty much. They didn't skimp on the meat. However it was a bit oily especially the pesto. The bread that came with was just okay. The server was very friendly. The inside is very nice, though there are a few steps that feel like they'd be easy to trip on. The pasta bowl definitely has a reputation for casual food and large portion sizes. This is my second time here. The first time I had a basic red sauce pasta and the second time I tried the lobster ravioli. The filling on the ravioli was good but the sauce was just incredibly heavy and goopy. The pasta here is probably on par to basic home cooking. If you're looking for classic Italian, this may not be the spot. We went with the farfalle pollo, chicken parm, penne alla vodka, and cacio e pepe. The pastas are sooo yummy and the flavors are delicious! Loacated just a short walk from the Lincoln Park Zoo, The Pasta Bowl is a specialist in all things pasta. There are appetizers and dessert on the menu as well but it's better to just go and focus on the carbs here. The plates are gigantic, big enough for 2, and the selection of dishes is lengthy. The pasta itself is flavorful, hot, and great texture. No soggy noodles or watery sauce here. Eating in is not bad, there are more seats inside than it seems. A great takeout spot and I highly recommend the $60 meal for two, where you'll get an app, salad, two pasta entrees, and a dessert of choice. It's a steal. Dining in, it's not the most intimate Italian restaurant vibe but more casual which can be nice for different circumstances. Last time I ate here I was disappointed because my dish tasted super off, an olive oil sauce smelled and tasted like peanut oil and I even asked others at my table to taste it to make sure I wasn't crazy. I was craving pasta and remembered the last time I went with my friend she had ordered the lucky penne and it was sooo good and I loved the creamy chipotle sauce. So you can imagine how disappointed I was when I received my order and the pasta was not at all creamy and/or good. The flavors were off and it genuinely looked/ tasted like someone just threw together a bunch of left over ingredients to make a "end of the week meal." You know the ones you make when you're trying to make use of all the left over groceries. All of the pasta options were so different and our server knew all of them by heart, including the noodle shapes which I was really impressed about. She was able to recite off the specials without looking at anything either. Server was extremely attentive and the ambience was casual stop in. We ended up ordering the butternut squash pasta with pancetta as well as the vodka rigatoni, and we added some chicken. The vodka rigatoni was not very spicy, but there was just enough sauce to cover all the noodles, but you didn't need anything, but they gave you a piece of bread to stop up the rest if that's for you. The butternut squash absolutely took the cake. It was savory, it was a little bit sweet, it was not greasy from the pancetta, but very well seasoned. We ordered catering for a work event and I was very pleased with the customer service. After submitting an order, I received a phone call from the restaurant asking a few additional questions and confirming the details. Then on the day of the event, I called ahead to ensure that it would be ready at the scheduled time (it was!) and pick-up was smooth. However, after leaving, the manager called to let us know that something had accidentally been left out of the order - and they offered to make it right by delivering it to us. A small and cute restaurant perfect for a night out to grab some quick pasta! There is a decent amount of seating and we were able to get a table for 2 immediately. The rigatoni pesto was a special dish that they were offering and the Farfalle pollo is listed as their signature dish. Both were absolutely delicious! Finally, when we're getting ready to leave, I ask for him, and he magically reappears with a half-filled to-go cup of coke. And his excuse? "I'm just busy." Busy? I ended up getting the limoncello spritz and it was okay! The pasta was superb - no surprise. They had over 15 pasta dishes and it was seriously hard to choose which one. The lobster ravioli is phenomenal. It has a lot of sauce that you can dip the bread that is provided into. There is a perfect amount of spinach and sun dried tomatoes where it isn't too overpowering. The inside of the restaurant is very low light and gives off the vibe of a dive bar which is really interesting and unique.
