I came on a Friday night at about 7:30pm. After running errands at the end of a work day, I wanted to grab some dinner. While searching on yelp for the area I was in for restaurants, Coda popped up. After reading the reviews and seeing the pictures of the food and drinks, dinner at Coda was the choice. I had no reservation but I did call ahead to see if I needed one or if they were busy. The hostess said come on in we can find a space for you. 1st mention is that I love the area this restaurant is located. Upon entry, I was greeted with a friendly smile and seated right away. Covid safety protocols were in place. The drinks were made to perfection. So good. Kudos to the bartender. Our server Michelle B. was friendly. She was very busy serving several tables but she was still attentive. So shout out to her. The food was good also. I felt it could have had more seasoning but still good nonetheless. The food was not very flavorful or well made. We ordered chicken wings they sleeve not bad had good crisp and flavor. We also ordered octopus that had zero flavor or char or even salt shrimp tacos had burned shrimp in it. Fish tacos were a solid 3 not terrible but I expected some spice or chipotle but nothing like that was happening. My friend ordered a ban mi and that was just terrible he couldn't even finish. The food and drinks are amazing. But some of the staff is incredibly rude and most likely racist. I went to CODA to have drinks with my friends, and I was told by a waiter without even saying hello or greeting me that he couldn't have me blocking up a table, which is fine, but it felt like he was going out of his way to be rude, unkind, and to make me feel unwanted in the space. I just find it funny that a restaurant full of white people he singles at the table of black girls. Further, when I tried to say something to him, I was completely ignored. Very disappointed! I didn't think a restaurant so central to Maplewood would engage in racist behavior, but I guess I was wrong. I'm only writing this review because when I called to speak with a manager, I was again rudely refused the opportunity to have a conversation. Came here for a large scale party. Right off the bat we were taken aback by our $700+ bill. We were all pretty surprised, mostly because most us of just had a couple beers and an appetizer. I understand that can add up quickly and there is added gratuity but I guess what added to the surprise was that nothing was particularly noteworthy to me or the group. Personally I had a couple pieces of the Duck flatbread, loaded nachos and ordered myself the Angry shrimp. None it really wowed me and my drink didn't come out right - Black and tan. So when money is being flung, my expectations go up. The spot for our party was a bit awkward too. There is a room toward the back of the restaurant which is cool and seems suitable for large groups, which we were but it wasn't exclusive, that's fine but I felt really weird being a part of a Friday after-work crew having a party for our co worker with drinks flowing and the conversations that sometimes go with it, while the tables filled up all around us with families and their kids. I don't like to have to curb my conversations or even asking others too, but it was indeed awkward and I think one the families even left. So eh, it wasn't 'bad' but it didn't grab me. The menu is large and of course that makes someone like me curious to try what they offer, but I can't see myself hurrying back. Decent enough to bring a small group but you may be able to do better with similar places in the area or neighboring towns. read more

Waffles were standard. The fried chicken was (I can't believe I'm actually saying this) too crispy! I actually had to pick off some of the breading to finally get to the actual chicken, which must have been a skinnier chicken too. We walked in around 2pm on a Sunday and had no trouble being seated immediately. No issues with the service: not overly-hospitable but got the job done efficiently. Oh: also no iced coffee here. Ribs are honestly the worst. It is undercooked, tough, and the bbq is disgustingly sweet. I ate as much as I could (see image below) before I had to discard the entire meal. The weird hash browns are the best part. Overall, I know what I'm getting here is a hit or miss. I've been to Coda for years and am surprised that I hadn't reviewed it. Two experiences, inside and out. My only difference is inside is noise. Outside is more effected by the elements but they do have powerful heaters. Inside often is noisy. Here's the thing - the food is excellent as are the drinks, whether old standards or their custom crafted drinks. Favorites are the Smoked Duck Flatbread, Tuna Tatare, Fish Tacos actually any of the tacos are great. They are particularly good at fish especially salmon. It's a relaxed place, very good service, outside tents with heaters with excellent food. Good place for lunch or brunch catching up with friends. read more

This was my first time here. I was visiting a friend who lives walking distance away. We chose this establishment because there was no wait and there was a varied menu. We were seated quickly at high bars at the front window. The back was a little noisy and low lighting so we were glad to upfront and by the window. We wanted wine and the waitress offered to get us samples of anything we wanted which I appreciated. I ordered a Chardonnay and it was very good!! I ordered an appetizer and a salad. The Seared Sea Scallops were medium sized and there were only 4. The taste was fine. The bed of greens and mushrooms they came one where tasty but I know think Im reliazinf I didnt get the fingerling potatoes. The Kitchen Cobb salad was underwhelming and scant. I asked for a side of red onions and arugula to pick it up. I saw so many great looking entrees at other tables that I would definatley want to come again and try other items. I decided to give Coda another try. Came in for brunch. Well... we waited an HOUR for our food. We would have waited longer as no one even bothered to check on us even though we were seated right near the host/bar staff. This place is just HORRIBLY run. There was only one other table seated. Our server and the host didn't bother to check and see after 30 minutes and other tables getting their food, we had nothing still. I had to alert the host (who was doing nothing). They said our order never went in. Mistakes happen but the complete inattention, the fact that I had to ask what was going on... why people who came in after us were being served.... Completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice brunch with my daughter. I would have left if it wasn't for my kid. I will never go back. The fries were wonderfully crisp and the green beans (haricot vert) still had a slight bite, which was great because I hate it when vegetables are cooked to death. The staff works so hard here, so please be patient. The hostess literally *runs* to clean and service tables, so remember that when you tip. As soon as we walked in we sat down & we noticed some young girl with black straight hair working there got annoyed as she was gossiping to another worker. She walked over with so much attitude and threw our menus on the table and rolled her eyes as she walked away. This got me really pissed and I quickly got up and confronted her to next time leave the attitude and handed back the menus. The most unprofessional rudest host I've ever dealt with for no reason. It just wasn't enough space to accommodate the plates. The food we ordered was mostly bland and tasteless. The crab nachos were not good at all. The calamari lacked flavor of any kind and most was tough to chew. The wings were very good however. The service was good and prompt . My cocktail was mostly ice and uninspiring as well. Went here for lunch and it was very quick to be seated and service was very good. You had the choice to sit outside or inside. If you wanted to sit out side there were heating lamps to keep you warm. Me and my friend obviously sat inside because it was too cold. For an appetizer I ordered the fried calamari and by itself is was very good. Sometimes when you go to some places you need the sauce but this was seasoned perfectly. I had ordered the Blackened Chicken club sandwich was very tasty but a bit spicy for me but I was very happy with it. The sweet potato fries were very crispy and very delicious.
