The Carriage House Restaurant is literally steps from the PaperMill Playhouse. Great to stop in prior to a performance. The atmosphere is best described as "cozy and rustic". I've stopped in about 2-3 times for drinks and appetizers. The food has always been very tasty. Little on the pricey side. On a positive note, you're only a few steps away from the theater. As of now, I've had Chicken Sausage Appetizers and a Steak Quesadilla. Nice wine and cocktail list. We've enjoyed their wine and cocktails on a previous visit. In December '23, I had an issue making reservations. Left two telephone messages and never received a call back. I couldn't even make a reservation on Opentable or Resy. We stopped in and informed the hostess of the issue. Anyway, we ended up eating at the bar. The Carriage House Restaurant does offer Cabaret and Murder Mystery shows.

We came to attend a dinner show. We thoroughly enjoyed the show and the dinner. Wait staff was wonderful. Food was hearty and delicious. It was a prefixed three course menu as part of the dinner theater. A quaint establishment with hidden private rooms. Very nice location and plenty of parking.

We were here for jazz piano. The ambience was great, a bit chilly and could have used some heat lamps. The food is unremarkable. We had chocolate mouse which was good, penne pasta which my kid ate with homemade pesto, pizza, and a burger. My child ate the pesto and the pizza and he is super picky, so thumbs up to that Frankly the burgers took forever (about an hour after we sat down) to come out and the restaurant was half empty. The entertainment made up for it. The place is sorta kid friendly with connect 4 and bean bags outside.

Perfect place to go for a pre-show meal. The food was great, the wine selection was great and the waiter and staff were very friendly and attentive. I started with the shrimp cocktail - the shrimp were huge and very fresh, the cocktail sauce nicely seasoned (tasted homemade). Next I had the Wagyu Beef - it was delicious but the highlight for me was the puree and brown sauce/gravy...I believe it was potato and root vegetables. It was the creamiest, lightest, most delicious version of mashed potatoes ever! For dessert I had the chocolate/vanilla mousse - the flavor was good but the texture was not as "fluffy" as I like my mousse. Next time I'll try a different dessert. The play Gun&Powder was great too, so starting off here made for an all around wonderful evening! Highly recommend for theatre goers!!

No matter where you sit - you'll have a great evening.

We attended Brookside Cabaret night, where The Carriage House provides dinner. It was a wonderful evening outside with pretty delicious offerings and excellent service. We chose the table in the back and loved our time there. The Caprese salad (too many soggy croutons- and btw - why add those?) and green tomato gazpacho apps were ok. Our main courses were quite delicious- pork chop and skirt steak hoagie. The key lime pie was the winner for dessert. The chef greeted every guest and visited each table, which was a nice touch. I would return for another cabaret night.

The perfect place to go for lunch before a show at the Papermill Playhouse! We went before the Great Gatsby Musical and they had wonderful themed cocktails and a great prefixe 2 course menu with options to add on dessert! We got the Dazzling Daisy and the Bees Knees cocktails, both delicious! I had the Moroccan Roasted Red Pepper Bisque and Steak & Mushroom Pot Pie which were both fantastic! I am still thinking about that pot pie, it was like a warm hug! We then added on the themed "Gatsby Gateau" a Chocolate Flourless Pistachio cake, SO DECADENT! The waitstaff were extremely nice and the chef came by to check in on us as well! I can't wait to come back!

Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and great service. Chris was so sweet and couldn't do enough to help me celebrate my birthday. If she didn't bring our food, she oversaw the servers to assure great service. We loved the rolls she brought over to replace the original dry rolls. The replacements were warm and flavorful. Thank you to Chef Mara, the pork chops and duck dishes were the best we have tasted.

Most people just come here before/after a show because it's attached to the Papermill Playhouse. I came before a matinee show. They only have a pri fixe menu unless you sit at the bar. Honestly, the food was good but I was not blown away by anything. For $30.00 per person (lunch), it is a good value. The portions were a nice size. You can choose an app, main and dessert. Coffee is included with the dessert. They have a different menu per season. The boneless pork ribs were good. I was just underwhelmed with everything. I did not like the set up of the restaurant. They basically sat us on top of another table just to get more seating in. I would not come back. There are better options in downtown Millburn.

The Carriage House is a good and convenient option to grab food or a drink before a show at Paper Mill Playhouse or during intermission. Tip: The wine here is much better than what they serve in the theater! If you have the reusable Paper Mill wine cups (available for purchase at the theater bar), you can take your wine to-go and enjoy it during the show. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio, had a glass at the restaurant, and then brought the rest with us. There were two of us and we shared an appetizer and a dessert. I thought the bacon-wrapped short ribs were overall just ok-- a little dry. However, the chocolate mousse was delicious, and I would definitely recommend!

On my second visit, I tried the blackened shrimp and corn cakes, and that dish alone inspired me to finally leave a review. Every ingredient was so vibrant and delightful, with flavors that complimented each other beautifully. The sweet corn cakes combined with the heat of the shrimp and the creamy avocado were perfect. The various textures made each bite even better. My friend also loved the american waygu burger. The place was pretty packed around 4:30 pm on a Saturday, but service was still pretty quick. My nephew who lives nearby treated us to an al fresco meal recently while visiting for a family event. My pulled pork smashed burger was everything you want in a packed meat sandwich, with an onion ring and tangy sauce on the brioche bun. The sweet potato fries and a refreshing mocktail to drink made for a perfect meal. Sweetie ate a pasta bolognese (I think) which looked and ate good, and drowned it with a nice glass of red wine. It was packed on the Friday night we visited, with folks lined up for seating, or to hang at the bar and enjoy the bar scene. No reservations. Our late dinner worked fine as the mostly millennial and Gen-Z crowd started thinning shortly after we arrived. Millburn has always been a draw for neighboring townsfolk in search of a meal out. I remember this foodie town from 25 years ago, when its pizza, kosher and diner offerings were top notch. It seems to have upgraded its food scene several notches since my last visit so many years ago. Pure nostalgia for me which made for a very flavorful evening. TOP TIP: Street parking in this part of town is a hassle and the local cops keep a sharp eye for illegally parked cars and inebriated drivers. So park further away from the center of town where you are more likely to snag a legal spot on a busy night.

The chicken parm was pounded thin and delicious, and the orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage came with a massive portion. Also an honorable mention for the bread basket which was overflowing with fresh and hot seasoned bread. Service was speedy and friendly, holiday decor was cute and there is a full bar. The Garlic Knots are so delicious; the knots are so fluffy and soft though firm like chewing savory (more so texture wise) cotton candy that does not dissolve. With every bite, flavoring seems to improve, especially with the soft though thicker than thinner more savory than sweet tomatoe-ish sauce. From my order experience, the mozzarella after flavor lingers with the garlic after flavor for about 30 and 40 hours. Yum, though I prefer the garlic more so than the mozzarella, all quite tasty. The drinks: We decided to start with drinks. My friend had the Moscow mule and I had the Bloody Mary. My bloody Mary was very good and strong and came with 3 huge olives. The olives tasted fresh. I've had weird tasting olives in other places. I liked it so much, I had another. Big mistake... My friend liked her Moscow Mule. The food: I had the turkey burger with bacon and avocado and truffle fries. The burger was cooked to perfection. It was not dry, but juicy without being under cooked. The bacon was perfect and the slices of avocado were fresh. My friend ordered the Ham Benedict. I didn't taste it but she said it was very good. The eggs looked perfectly done. That came with a side of potatoes. I think this will be my new brunch spot when I come to visit North Jersey. I recommend them.

Everything in my previous review still stands - it's still an interesting hybrid of family restaurant, sport bar and lounge. Since my previous review I've had some of the food and it's as expected - average to a bit below average fitting for how I viewed the place before having food. I've managed to try a burger here and was disappointed. I asked for medium-well, it was beyond well done. Dry and not very well seasoned at that. The fries were unacceptable. Plentiful but I'm almost positive these are Ore-Ida frozen fries. The bar pie was also pretty sad. It's about 4 medium slices of thin crust pizza with average sauce flavor. It seemed a bit burnt. I also got a plate of buffalo wings to share with my buddies. Again average. It wouldn't be so bad but the prices are pretty high. All of the things I've tried were $15+ and they ranged from not good to average. The bartenders do put a lot of effort in interacting with you and do well keeping drinks going but the food and the experience is a bit dicey. The locals that frequent here are friendly and have resulted in conversations which help the experience here.
