I recommend ordering a flight so you get a taste of all their beers. On this visit I ordered a prosecco and Hubby ordered their red from one of our favorite bartenders Tom. Really great guy. We had a wonderful experience here with our two children, 6 and 4. The staff were very attentive, seating us right away and taking our order without delay. I had their blueberry blonde pale ale which was pretty good. Unfortunately is was a yucky rainy night and I didn't have a second drink in me though I sampled my son's house made root beer. A great solid brew restaurant. The food selection is fantastic, reasonably priced, with large portions. The service is great. The beer flight is huge, with 7 samples for $16. The watermelon was the stand out winner, with the brown ale as a close second. The Mrs got the steak salad, it was huge, she could only eat half. Coddington Brewery was established in 1995 and has been turning out handcrafted beer on the premises ever since. I have visited here on a handful of occasions and have been generally satisfied with each trip. Located on Coddington Highway, this restaurant/brewery is quick to find and easy to get to. Serving their own beers on tap, I opted for their Blueberry Blonde brew "a golden beer with a delicate blueberry flavor and aroma" mixed with some sort of hard cider. It was a surprising but refreshing concoction that I would certainly order again on my next visit. A friend ordered the Winter Warmer which had a "pronounced malty flavor" with a figgy ending. . . .Oh bring us a figgy pudding, oh bring us a figgy pudding. . . . If this were simply a review of their beer they'd be 5 stars hands own. Throw food into the mix and their rating decreases to simply average. We started off the meal with a Spinach Dip appetizer. They give you an enormous amount of dip compared to the number of chips. This ratio must be adjusted. The waitress was kind enough to bring more chips upon request. The dip itself was tasty! I then ordered a cheeseburger and fries that turned out to be nothing to write home about. I would have liked to order sirloin tips or a pasta dish but at $16+ for these simple dishes, I opted for the cheaper meal. Bring home a Growler full of your favorite beer or join the Mug Club for discounts and special offers. I'm not sure that I would return here for food, but a trip dedicated to the bar and some appetizers would make for a decent trip! read more

Finally came here after receiving a gift card for Xmas. I've heard great things about this place through friends so I was excited to give it a whirl. Very happy I did. There were 6 of us so we started off with a few apps. Nachos, the pretzel and the stuffed mushrooms. Now all were very good, but the stuffed mushrooms...hubba hubba man they were off the hook delish! The watermelon lemonade on their cocktail menu is very tasty and refreshing. For my main course I got the taco salad but honestly I was over half way full after we smashed the apps! The taco salad was very tasty. Now I spotted the peanut butter pie on the menu since we got there so I had this on my mind the whole time we were there. Let me tell you, if you love peanut butter and chocolate, you NEED to order this dessert!! I will definitely be coming back here so I can try a few other dishes that caught my eye! I was very impressed with this little brewpub a few minutes outside of downtown Newport during our visit. A local couple at a neighboring table at dinner the night before had struck up a convo, and as I usually do, we asked for any recommendations or spots we needed to hit. They suggested Coddington and I'm glad they did! After enjoying the beach in the morning and the cliff walk, we popped over to Coddington Brewery for lunch. They knocked it out of the park with all of the Covid-precautions, we felt safe throughout and were outside and there were masks and gloves and all that, which is great. Service and food were fabulous. The menu was diverse and had lots of options, and we enjoyed everything. The buffalo chicken eggrolls and onion rings were awesome starters, and I thought my lobster roll was exceptional. Perfect, meaty, no filler. Bravo! I had a flight, which had all their offerings, and everything was good. Nothing that knocked my socks off, but everything was good. I had one pint afterwards of my personal fave, and my lovely dining companion enjoyed the cocktail she was recommended so much she had two of them. OK, this place is interesting. We only went in for drinks. Also, my wife asked for a "sampler" and I had asked for a full pint before the waitress told us the sampler was 10 samples of 4oz each. So I rescinded my order and we shared a single "sampler". The quality of their beer was hit or miss. Some, like the pumpkin and the porter were really tasty, really well done. The blueberry one was kinda... Awkward for lack of a better word - they put a handful of blueberries in the beer. Overall, their beer gets a 3-star, service and prices get a 4. read more

If you want mediocre service you must try this place. Waitstaff was not very attentive. Empty drinks for 20 minutes and finally after ordering a martini and beer we received our meal and then it took an additional 15 mins for the beer and 25 mins for the waitress to tell us they had to get something upstairs to make the martini!! The food was not bad other then lacking flavors. A very bland burger and the seafood scampi was very dry. We received the bill and the waitress came back 10 Mins later to give us a new bill bc she forgot to put the dessert on. Fair enough... we pay with 3 different credit cards and the rest in cash. Our waitress had the nerve to come up to some of my friends and tell them that we didn't leave enough of a tip!! I have never in the 16+ years of being in this industry ever went up to my customers and complained to them they did not Leave enough of a tip. Quick review: Great service, decent local craft brew selection, big pass on the food. Wife and I came for dinner, don't think I'll be back again for chow, especially the seafood that isn't fried. Reason: Honestly, the second we came in, we were greeted by the warm wait staff, promptly seated, the poor waitresses were running around with their head's cut off because the place was absolutely packed on a Saturday night. Wife and I looked over the menu and the specials and about 16 dishes had seafood in one fashion or another so we went with a few choices. We started with the Crab Dip with tortilla chips, I went with the Fish and Chips, and the wife went with the stuffed Shrimp. The Crab Dip was like an artichoke dip with crab in it instead. Honestly, it wasn't bad, but the chips were either done right or still soaking in oil making it a land mine in which you would receive. I never thought in a appetizer, the chips would be the thing making it regrettable... The Fish and Chips were decent. It is really hard to screw up frying a piece of fish in fresh batter and letting it dry on a rack to avoid it being soggy. The fries and fish were decent, but in all honesty, fried seafood is pretty easy as long as you don't rush it. The thing that gets me upset was the jumbo stuffed shrimp. For jumbo shrimp, they were a little small. Toss in the fact that the stuffing tasted like a weird combination of uncooked breading with lemon and a weird brandy taste nestled on top of an overcooked rubbery shrimp and you get my wife's dish. After tasting it, I was going to send it back, but since my wife wasn't that hungry and she liked her mashed potato's she didn't want me to make a scene. Stuffed shrimp is pretty simply, you half cook the stuffing you are going to nestle on the shrimp, since it takes longer to cook. Then you put the half cooked stuffing on, and finish it. This was just straight up lazy. You place uncooked stuffing on a shrimp, cook them together, with one being overdone (shrimp) and one being underdone (stuffing). I would go for drinks, avoid the chow. Your stomach will thank you. read more

We ordered a couple flights and a bunch of apps and everything hit the spot. Highly recommend the Bavarian pretzels and their girl scout cookie ice cream pie which not only was absolutely delicious but supports their local Girl Scout troop. We were told they purchase the cookies from the troop to make the dessert and then on top of that a portion of the sales goes back to them. How can you not get behind that!? The patio dining was nice, they had big umbrellas for plenty of shade and the busy traffic on the street was not a distraction at all. Service was quick and friendly. Meh. I know it's a general term but it's the best word that sums up our experience. After driving pass all the time we decided it was time to give it a try. Came for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. There was no wait which is always nice. The place was about half full. We were sat right away. For the restaurant only being half full it seemed like we waited a little longer than we should have for our drink order, but it wasn't enough to really make or break the experience. My fiancé ordered an IPA since that is his go to. Me being a little more adventures ordered their sampler. Now I'm used to ordering flights at breweries, but I was shocked when we got the receipt to notice it was $22 for the sampler. You do get a little more than a traditional flight, total of 7 beers and 7oz each. But when the 16oz IPA was $5, you can see the math doesn't add up. More on the beers themselves later. They had a really good looking lunch special menu. Which we thought looked promising. He ordered a burger, and I ordered the ahi poke tacos off the special lunch menu. The burger came with curly fries, which honestly was the best part of our meal. My fiancé only managed to eat half of it. He said the bun ruined it. It was a traditional store bought bun that had too much bread for the burger. The tacos where made with store bough hard taco shells. But the poke itself was really good! I would have much rather have had the poke on its own. The meal itself felt like it was lacking something, maybe beans? But just two tacos on a plate doesn't make a full lunch meal in my opinion. Now to the beer. This place is a brewery. They have little notes on the brewery process on their placemats which I think is cool. But the beer was not that great. The blonde ale, my fiancé and I commented that it tasted like a small step above a bud light. The blueberry ale, had fresh blue berries in the bottom of the glass, but I couldn't taste any in the beer itself. The IPA was nothing special. Two of there other beers came with slices of fruit on the glass as a garnish as well. Which was just weird to me. The watermelon ale did taste like watermelon but there was a huge chunk of watermelon on the glass. This just sent a message to me that they didn't trust the flavor of their beer enough to stand on its own. Which was probably a justified feeling. The stout was definitely the best of the bunch but by the time I had worked my way down to the darkest beer I just wasn't having it. read more

While our party of 5 were in Newport to visit the mansions for the day, we purposely made our way to Coddington to try their local foods and in house brews. We were excited to see a huge crowd already at the restaurant and their own beer vats. We were looking forward to enjoy all that they had to offer! We set right into ordering the tasting tray which comes with 6 of their own brews priced very well at $15. We had everything except the Belgian which was too high in alcohol volume. For the drinkers, we noticed the beers were very underwhelming. There wasn't much flavor that made it its own. Where we expected sweet, there was bitter, where we expected malt, there was none; we were not happy about the beer offerings. Then we ordered the foods and started with an order of the wings. The wings were enjoyable and hot. They did a good job on the wings and it was a good starter. Then came the entrees' corned beef reuben, shepherd's pie, bbq combo, calamari fra diavolo, and stuffed scallops. By far, the best offering was the shepherd's pie where the crust was tasty, the beef was plentiful, and the seasoning quite enjoyable. The worst offering was the bbq combo where the rubs were dry and small, chicken was also dry and just drenched in sauce. Even the bbq presentation was sad to see. Everything else we ate had its ups and downs depending who you talked to within the group. We did enjoy the small town feel to the restaurant and the friendly staff surely made up for the poor food.
