We decided to try out Cody's Gastro Garage, in Paris Idaho. We have eaten at their location in Garden City, several times in past. We have always enjoyed the menu at Cody's, as they have some pretty fun creations. The restaurant is located across the street from the Paris Idaho Tabernacle (built in 1889). The front of Cody's is a roll up glass garage door, which allows for a great view of the tabernacle and the main street that runs through the town. The food was good and the service was great. This particular location is not as large as the location in Garden City, but is still designed with the same cool garage theme vibe. I especially like their license plate hanging lights. If you find yourself traveling through Paris Idaho or Garden City (Bear Lake), be sure to give them a try. They have a lot to choose from on the menu and they will treat you right.

So I've been to the Cody's Gastro Garage in Garden City, UT, which was fantastic. Because of that I thought I would get the same quality of food here in Paris, ID. However, that was unfortunately not the case. They were out of a lot items on the menu (the famous raspberry lemonade and any thing with ice cream) and some of the items on the menu were printed incorrectly. The Ruben's meat was gristly and they forgot the thousand island sauce. The fish and chips my brother ordered was inedible. The fish was too tough to take bites of, to the point that when he took a bite the whole piece of fish would slip out of the battering. The onion rings' batter was patchy and the lemonade was so watered down you could barely call it lemon water. All that said, the server was friendly and I give him top marks since he was the only one taking orders and checking on guests the whole time we were there.

Great stop for a quick lunch. Good prices, good service, good food. The Cheese Curds and homemade dipping sauce were A+.

There is a massage place on the back end(not open that I could see) only noticed when I passed it going to the restroom. She had the airplane chicken and I had the Surf & Turf. Both were well prepared and delicious. I had a Summer Shandy & my wife had a Trash Panda(their version of a LI ice tea. Service was good. While expensive(over $100 for two w/ tip), it was the first "nice" dinner we've had during our vacation. Worth a stop.

Take my advice and make a reservation, especially if you're visiting on a weekend. This place is hoppin'. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the kindest woman and seated quickly. Our waitress was warm, attentive, and genuinely lovely. Now, come in knowing this: the food is to die for, but there will be a wait, and it's 100% worth it. Your server won't let your drink run empty, the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and patience is rewarded here. We ordered the pot roast and the salmon. The pot roast was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the salmon was cooked to absolute perfection. I'm really hoping we can get in for brunch today, but I didn't make a reservation... rookie mistake on my part. Don't pass this place up. I've been coming to Lava for nearly 20 years, and Rogue Restaurant is officially my new favorite.

Bear Lake's Best-Kept Secret (That Apparently Everyone's Mad About?)…read more Let's get something straight: I've eaten at Bear Lake my whole life, and up until now, "dining out" here meant a basket of something fried in oil older than the lake itself. So when I tell you Campfire Grill made me remember what actual food tastes like, understand the weight of the statement. The margherita pizza comes out of the wood-fired oven blistered and glorious--like it's personally trying to make up for decades of regional culinary disappointment. The wedge salad's blue cheese has a faint smoky thing going on, dotted with tiny chives, and tasted like somebody in that kitchen has actually left the county before. And don't get me started on the wings: homemade buffalo sauce, still crispy, and not a hint of gas-station-regret afterward. Add giant open windows that turn the whole dining room into an al fresca reprieve, competent waitstaff, and you've got yourself an actual bona fide restaurant in a place that has subsisted on fry-baskets since one of the Roosevelt administrations. So, to the one-star crowd: I don't know what you were expecting. This isn't Salt Lake City. It's Bear Lake. And for Bear Lake, this is nothing short of miracle work.

I ordered the avocado toast, and it was alright. Pretty blend though. Several of us wanted the biscuits and gravy, but they were out of it. The servers were working very hard though. You could tell they were understaffed and as someone who works in the industry, I knew the stress they were likely under. The setting was really cool. Huge open windows and tons of fresh air and sunlight.

This was my second visit, and unfortunately it was almost identical to the first. The welcome was not very friendly, and our waitress walked by the table several times before finally speaking to us. After that, she never really came back to check on us, ask whether we needed anything, or see how the food was. The next thing we knew, she was dropping off the bill. We ordered two appetizers, but only one was brought out. I also clearly mentioned that I have a food allergy, and she said she would let the kitchen know. Even so, the appetizer arrived with the ingredient I'm allergic to, and nothing was said about it. On top of that, the salad came with the wrong dressing. That said, the seared ahi tasted fresh, and the greens with salmon really hit the spot. The food itself was enjoyable, which makes the service issues even more disappointing. It is hard to overlook a missed appetizer, the wrong dressing, and especially the mishandling of a food allergy. This place has a lot of potential, but the service definitely needs work.
