My first visit to the Coffee Cup was prolly some 68 or so years ago for the first of many lunches on Saturdays with my grandparents. Loved it. And, of course, over the years I've visited from time to time on our frequent visits to our home town. I joined a lifelong Pensacola friend for breakfast Saturday and am happy to report that the Coffee Cup is solid and worthy of the crowds that still gather here for breakfast and lunch. I knew the ownership had changed over the years. It is now apparently owned by the Jaco's group. My friend and I sat at the counter which pleased me to start with. There are precious few counters like this still serving. But I had no idea I was in for a show as well. Watching the cat cooking breakfast on the flattop is worth the price of admission. The guy is a hoot and he's a helluva flattop short order cook to boot. I dunno what the playlist streaming through the bud in one ear is, but he rocks the grill routine to the tunes juking and jiving with spatulas and spoons twirling and flying as he flips hash browns and eggs. It's a sight to behold. LOL. I ordered one egg soft scrambled (few restaurant cooks do it right - he did) , grits, a piece of toast and the smoked country hot link sausage which is split and grilled on the flattop under a grill press. I could tell just from looking at the grits that the kitchen here shows the noble but often horribly prepared (even in much of the South) dish some love in it's preparation. Still I added a lot more butter, salt and pepper. When mixed together on my plate with the scrambled egg it was grits and egg nirvana. So damn good. And get this. Though It was 11:30 and I had already had four cups of coffee beginning at 6:30 that morning and had transitioned earlier to a glass of chardonnay before heading to this late breakfast I had to try the coffee to see if it was still as bad as in my estimation the Coffee Cup's coffee has always been. It was good! No really. It was good. And that's not just the chardonnay talking. Somebody at the Coffee Cup has apparently figured out how to make a decent cup of joe. Crazy. I know. I'm gonna take my wife there before we head back to Texas as she does not believe me. LOL. It's legit, people. read more

I love breakfast diners! Place was busy and I feel like they were possibly down staff cause it took quite a while to order but food came out fresh and hot! Everyone was nice. I had a classic breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and a biscuit. That biscuit was THE highlight. I wish I ate 5 more. Very yummy and decent prices. read more

I love the coffee cup. But wow. Ordered a burger got a hockey puck. I don't like to send things back never know what goes on when you do that. Planned on paying for it things happen. Waitress assisted to take it off. I had no attitude just let them know it was not up to what they usually serve. Owner just had a stark attitude and said we can't fix it if you don't tell us turned his back and left. Well just told you said I would pay for it and that they were usually good. But now I have an attitude. You knew about it when the burnt hamburger was put on the plate. The server knew it when she dropped it off. It was that bad. So you're worried about not being told about the restaurant. Here is a few more things. Don't have the server get cheese bare handed out of the refractor and give to the cook up front. This is such a historical restaurant! So many things are original since 1945. This is the oldest and continuously running restaurant in Pensacola FL. The owner and staff are very friendly! I've been going to the Coffee Cup my entire life and love the memories and fun times I've had there. The food is good and still much the same as it always had been. But the service on this visit was very slow, more than an hour for a simple breakfast after a long wait to get inside. Next time we will come back during a less busy period. read more

I was in town for a wedding and was looking for a breakfast spot close to my air bnb so I ended up going to the coffee cup. They were extremely busy and all of the workers were working very hard, but be warned the service was a bit slow. I was not in a rush so it didn't matter to me, but if you are in a rush or with a larger group it may not be for you. The server was nice and the food was very good and very fresh. Not all diners are created equal and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised eating here for the first time. To be the longest running food establishment in the area I'm ashamed that I am just now discovering The Coffee Cup. The owner was super nice and a gracious host. We sat at the bar and could see our food prepared. My husband would be happy to know the cook wears gloves lol. My omelette was stacked and tasted amazing! This once great establishment has now fallen victim to the greed of today's "entrepreneur". The legendary breakfast eatery was bought by the owners of Jacko's and has gone downhill in years since. What has suffered? The ambience, for one. Coffee Cup used to feel like stepping back in time. They had the same tiny coffee cups for decades! No "art" on the walls, just good food and great prices. Now they have thrown out the quaint little cups for ugly "Waffle House" style mugs, complete with the "Coffee Cup" logo on each side, just so you don't forget where you are. (Hint: I am not a child, I know where I am at all times.) And that brings us to the "art"... cheap Hobby Lobby art now adorns the once blank canvas of the restaurant. Cliche beach scenes and coffee themed junk. It really cheapens the atmosphere. I'm making myself sick just explaining it. Let's move on. The portions are smaller. The prices are climbing. We all know the old song and dance. Now let's get to the worst part... they started opening on Sunday. Listen, I'm not religious by any means. I do, however, believe having one day to be closed completely is important for any business. And Coffee Cup was one of those places that has ALWAYS been closed on Sunday. Not anymore! Just goes to show you what motivates these greedy new owners. It's shameful. Best to remember her how she was. Maybe in a few decades she will be restored to her proper old glory. I have heard really good things about this restaurant, but honestly sitting at the counter and watching the food prep was extremely concerning. Issue #1 is that the cooks don't use gloves and handled both raw and fully cooked foods back to back without washing their hands. Beef, pork, shrimp and eggs as well as hand scooping hash browns & plating fully cooked orders and sandwiches with their hands after handling the meats. One cook would rub his hands on his pants in the same spot after handling food and go right back into hand pressing burgers or trying to salvage poached eggs. Some members of the wait staff would also swing by and pick up cooked items and place it on plates with their hands directly after taking orders. We were there for about an hour and a half (it was busy, they were short staffed-- which is fine-- we have worked in restaurants for 15+ years and get it) but the raw meats set out in plastic bins remained unrefrigerated the entire time we were there. The cooks try to remember orders but this led to wait staff having to repeat orders and remind them to the point that the staff looked and sounded stressed over the wait times for food. Half our order sat on the counter until it was mid-warm and the final plate took an additional 5 minutes or so to be cooked and delivered. The owner and staff are so nice and very sweet there's just a lot of health code violations going on and unfortunately I did end up with stomach issues later in the day. read more

Restaurant Review: Coffee Cup Restaurant Pensacola, Florida I tried out this place for the first time with a couple of friends. I've been craving some homemade onion rings and I found a couple of places to try in the Pensacola area. It was a little busy when we got there, which was around 12:30 PM. Found a parking spot and then we had to wait 10 minutes or so for a table. We got seated at a table. The server came by, dropped off menus and took our drink orders. They have Pepsi products (which is rare to see in restaurants as it is usually Coca Cola products), so of course, I ordered a Mountain Dew. The server was very nice and filled our drinks constantly The server brought our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. My friends were not ready yet, so we asked the sever for her to check back with us. She came back to take our orders. I ordered the French toast. The server explained that their French toast was like funnel cake tasting as they deep fry it. I said that's fine. I also ordered onion rings. One of my friends ordered the Build Your Own Omelet with sausage/bacon/onions, hash browns and a biscuit. My other friend ordered a hand cut ribye, eggs over easy, hash browns and tomatoes. It didn't take very long to get our food. My friends got their food and I got my onion rings. I had to wait on my French toast. Meanwhile, I started eating the onion rings. The homemade onion rings tasted very good, especially dipped in some ketchup. Finally, I received my French Toast. The server was right, it tasted like funnel cake. It's good if you like funnel cake. I like classic French Toast better, with just brioche bread, dipped in mixture and pan fried. My friend sampled my French Toast and thought it was too oily, which it kind of was. My friend liked his omelet, hash browns and biscuit. My other friend liked her ribeye, eggs over easy, hash browns and tomatoes. She said her biscuit was kind of dry. Overall, the food was pretty good. I'll be back to try some other foods and I'll definitely will be back for the onion rings. Also, the atmosphere inside reminds me of Maid-Rites back in the Midwest as they have an open kitchen. read more

this was my first time coming to coffee cup and it was such a cute little diner! it's definitely old style diner & the food resembles that as well. i got french toast (which seems to be deep fried?) and it was okay, i would prefer if it wasn't fried. the hashbrowns were great though! service was good but a little sporadic and slow. all of the staff were super friendly, especially the gentleman who seats you and the lady at the front counter!! love this place, just wish some of the food was prepared differently. read more

I hadn't had breakfast at the Coffee Cup since I was a kid (cough cough.....early 90s )- it was jus as good as I remembered!!! I had the Nasáu grits and biscuits and gravy w 2 poached eggs, it was so good I literally wiped my plates w my toast and erased any trace that it was ever there. Even though the dinner was 3/4 full, our food came out in less than 5 min. Our coffee was kept full and hot. The staff is friendly and the food is fantastic!! read more

I had a business breakfast there today. We sat at a booth. There were at least 6 live flies buzzing around us the entire meal (at least that many dead on the window ledge) I felt like there was a persistent fly crawling on my foot(I had flip flops on) when it would shake kn e off I looked under the table and a very large cockroach was adhered to my foot. I knocked it off and my guest stomped on it. When the owner came over to the table and I told him about it. He nonchalantly said yep had others complain about it too. We are battling them. Then he stepped on the roach so it would stick to his shoe and limped to the kitchen to dispose of it. The place was very dirty. Best restaurant for fast breakfast and a good menu. It's what I call a good "hole in the wall" local place.
